We hope you enjoyed exploring and discovering the local history in the communities of Aoetearoa New Zealand. The Tuia Matauranga GeoTour has now ended. Thank you to the community for all the great logs, photos, and Favorite Points over the last 30 months. It has been so fun!
Nice multi!
Very simple, which I have come to appreciate after doing so many multis on the GeoTours.
Really admired the painting and it’s detail!
Thanks for the GeoTour cache here!

After checking in to our accommodation we came in to town for petrol and something to eat - only options were the two pubs with roaring patrons or the quiet Indian/Thai. Easy choice and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. When we turned our focus back to caching we discovered this was in front of where we were parked. Quickly gathered the numbers and off to GZ where the cache was found by feel rather than seeing. TFTC # 18,360
After checking into our accommodation and having a delicious meal across the road from the starting coordinates for this one we quickly got some numbers and went in search of the cache. It did take a while before Isis58 found it and we both left with hands a lot dirtier than when we started. Thanks for your contribution to the geotour Darby&Joan

Down for a weekend 'crafting retreat' with friends - went for a early evening walk with KakesNZ - this was along our route towards Snapper Jacks our stop for dinner - However we were meeting others so chose not to solve and find rather photograph what we needed - we will solve using the information we had collected and save this to FIND on our next trip down (otherwise we will have no excuses to go for walks - as the area is looking pretty yellow and happy now)
(# 7120) A flying visit up north by flying into Hamilton and then hitting the road up to the Coromandel primarily to get some geotour caches. A quick find after abandoning an earlier attempt as the skateboard park was well populated with muggles. Came back later and no problems. Thanks for bringing me here.
This was way too fun! What a cool mural. I felt like such a spy as I grabbed the cache on the way past and stealthy returned it
We arrived in town this afternoon. Checked in and then went hunting the Geotour caches. This was second on our list. I like they way that the history is portrayed on the wall. Ms M interviewed some skate boarders while I found the cache. TFTC
We are currently staying at cooks beach and went over on the ferry briefly yesterday morning to pick up a few caches before racing back in time to meet family who were coming up to stay. I took photos of the appropriate objects and worked out the answers to this multi last night, and tonight we went back over on the ferry and picked up this cache as well as another one. Enjoyed this multi, TFTC
Enjoyed the stroll around town including the cool murals and was surprised by the area surrounding the GZ. Did somehow not expect it.

Gathered all the required info after dinner and made our way to a GZ for a very quick find.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, Darby&Joan

Beautiful day in Whitianga today. Plenty of muggles around. We enjoyed the history lesson on the mural.
Managed to work out the answers. Lots of muggle children around GZ. Nice quick find , sign and replace.
Found it after a few misdirections on the coordinates. Once I knew where it would be was a easy find; casually walked along the bridge with hand around rail. Few muggles around but none the wiser.
#9685. I have been at a conference in Thames for the past 2 days. Its now Queens Birthday Monday and I have a chance to pick up a few caches around the Coromandel, especially the TMGT caches. Problem is the rain has arrived and its quite heavy at times. Overall however I managed to find quite a few caches in the gaps between the rain showers. This was an enjoyable multicache. Firstly a simple offset one which always feels more achievable than multiple waypoints. Secondly some fascinating insights into how the Endeavour was fitted out. Had no idea it was full of so many storage options. Once we had the right information we headed to GZ for an instant find in the first place checked. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks Darby&Joan for hiding it here.
Quick easy multi. As warned lots of muggles at GZ but they were all otherwise occupied so standing in the right place and sleight of hand worked. Had to head away a bit to log and then replace. Interesting information. Been learning lots about Cook on my Coromandel leg of my TMGT tour. TFTC.
In the area for a lovely relaxing weekend with the bonus of a Sunday morning multi with coffee A few muggles nearby but they weren't a problem for too long as they ended up running after their dog which got loose - leaving the area clear for enough time to find, sign and replace.
Really enjoyed this one - straightforward find, all good here.

Liked this one for a few reasons. Good artwork, a Multi-cache, easy sums (once I corrected an error that said we needed to use the ferry to find!) and a nice area to come and visit. I made the find whilst mrs checked the shoe shop options nearby!
Day 3 of our Coromandel visit and our last full day prior to heading back towards home tomorrow. We headed out nice and early this morning with a long-winded route to the TMGTs at Whiti the city and some more great scenery. Intent was to return via 309 kauri, but that got shelved and just picked a few off at each end instead.
Our last visit to the Coromandel was over 12 years ago so it was good to be back in the area after all of that time. We had spent Christmas away in Northland, and a quiet New Year at home before a 4 day/3 night stay in Coromandel town. We explored up the West of the peninsula up to Fletchers Camp, through the middle and across to the East coast of Whitianga and Whangamata, before heading back home 'via' Waihi Beach, where sadly that lady was killed by a shark whilst swimming, RIP. We found all available TMGT options, a few Earthcaches and saw some great sites and sights. Thanks to all COs for their caches here. We didn't do nearly as many as the Seagnoid and TB dragon whose steps we followed in on some days.

After trying several times to ger the information, I finally collected it earlier today and then when back at my accomodation, I quickly calculated the final. I had decided on fish and chips for tea and so after attending to that, I made the short walk to the final. There was a few kids around but thanks to the hint, I was able to easily retrieve and replace. A nice way to finally bring up my 50th multi cache and a badge on project GC, it has only taken me 8 years....
Heading back to 'Whiti the City' to look for something to eat, decided to sign this one off on the way past. TFTC. Number 8961
We started this a few days ago but too many muggles to attempt the cache. This morning is our laast chance so we were here at 6.30 and with only 2 muggles at the local skate park and not interested in us, we finally got this one snagged and tagged. Cheers.
Day 9 - Boxing Day - Saturday 26 December - Whitianga - Cooks Beach - Tairua. So lets go exploring.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

This is our third attempt at this cache. Each time there were too many muggles and we did not want to compromise the cache. This time we arrived at 6:30 in the morning. Still there were muggles there, but only two and they had their backs to us and ignored us the whole time. Or maybe didn't even hear us? So yay, got this one ticked off at last.
Taybeedragon and I went on a tour of the Coromandel - one of the few places of New Zealand, especially of Te ika a Maui, that I have yet to explore throughly, and from there along the coast to Opotiki to see one of my many, many sisters. From 18 December to 5 January we found over 400 caches, including 12 adventure labs (60 caches), 20 or so TMGTs and a host of virtuals and earthcaches. And I hosted an event to see the sun come up on New Year's day - surprisingly popular given that it was at 5am. We climbed a lot of hills, saw some amazing beaches that were quite popular despite (or because of) the insane access to them, walk a lot of bush, entered and explored 8 gold mines and generally had an awesome time. However I am glad to be back, but now is the hard part, and I fear it will take just as long - logging!

Our, wife and I, first experience of geocaching. Had my son(dewiekoch) with us... made it easier as he got the tech know-how on pinpointing the coordinates on google. Still had to search. Went in hard, I.e. we looked at the most difficult places and was climbing up and down all over(hope not giving away too much) awesome first encounter. Were followed by muggles... might be challenging for future as the newly build skate park is opening today at 4pm.
North Island Campervan trip Day 4
After the fantastic holiday I had a few months ago traveling around the South Island, making the most of one of those incredibly cheap campervan deals available at the time, I figured it was worth taking a week off work before the stresses of the usual holiday period to enjoy some of the delights to be found around the top of the North Island.
This would be a great chance for me to seek out some targeted caches such as the TMGT ones as well as some that would help me with my Jasmer grid, missing minutes (for a couple of challenge caches I'm working on) and any other caches that caught my eye.
I had just picked up the campervan and my intention was to make my way over to the Coromandel and end up in Whitianga for the night. I was looking forward to the journey as this is not a route I have traveled often, and never since discovering Geocaching!
This would end up being my last cache for today. It was already dark by the time I arrived in Whitianga, and having found a suitable overnight park up for the camper nearby I was able to take a quick stroll over to where I believed the cache to be hidden. It was a really quick find thanks to the excellent Hint. I encountered no issues with this cache or it's log, which was signed and the whole lot replaced exactly as found before making my way back to the van to hopefully get a good sleep.
Thanks for setting this cache up.

Heading over to get the TGA TMGT caches, I then went up to get the last in Whitianga, and then (because I'm mad) decided to get two I'd previously DNFd in Auckland.
I decided last minute, after doing the Tauranga caches, that I would head up and have another crack at this one. This time it was with success! I remember enjoying the mural to get the information for this one, so I'm adding a FP. I'm now heading off to do some more of the 309 trail
TFTC Darby&Joan, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 5 find(s) of 15 today, making this find #2307

Planned to come to the mega which didn't happen however caching today with noseynel ethness jude_E thedbees and lis's crew. Tftc
I was down in Auckland this weekend to help my son and his family move into their first house. I'd planned to join a group of cachers to do a one day blitz on the Coromandel TMGT caches. We left Auckland at 7. 30am and got back to their accommodation 12 hours later. Some beautiful sights were seen, fun had and interesting poses performed for a certain G-2 cache in Pauanui.
I visited the TMGT caravan and saw the boats when they came to the Bay of Islands. It was magnificent seeing the Endeavour and other wakas in the Bay. I was lucky to see the wakas and hear the chanting as they headed down Haruru River from our deck.
One of the team made a quick, sneaky grab here. Loved the murals around town. TFTC

Out and about at the Mega that wasn't with a group of five crazy kiwi caching chicks, Ethness, Jude_E, Nosynel, GracieGPSfun and me. We took a trip out around the Coromandel to get the TMGT caches. A quick find in a lovely spot. TFTC.
We had near here at the bakehouse was delicious.
This is supposed to be a Mega trip. Jude_E and I flew up from Christchurch. Ethness flew up from Wellington. The DBees and Gracie's GPS fun drove down from Northland.
Thanks Darby&Joan for creating this hide. It was find 9187 for me.
======== NZ Mega 2021 ========
Planning for the NZ Mega 2021 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, October 2021

Very busy in Whitty today. Got all the info, crunched the numbers, then made a nice quick find. Cool multi. TFTC
In Whangamata with EyespyBen for a few nights,so we decide to do a day trip to Whitianga for some Lunch
Nice easy find

Weekend break escaping the big smoke. Figured we should pick up a cache or 2 while we were out and about. The mural and pathway from town to the wharf where not here when we last visited. Looks like they are doing a great job in sprucing up the town. Soon had all the information in hand and a super quick find was made. TFTC
Interesting mural with a the information about this voyage. I was surprised that I got the coords on the first try. TFTC.
We did the required research for this yesterday evening, and returned tonight to make the find. All is good with the cache. Thanks for sharing this interesting information and the placement.
On a TMGT expedition, with four wagging tails in tow. Been confined to camper with high waters around, but back on the road today. So we did the math, found the container, signed the log, had some breakfast and kept on moving. Tft multi cache
Gathered up all the information we needed and checked out our solution on the geochecker.Success.Made our way to the cache and made a quick find. Thanks for teaching us some more history.
After overnighting n the new NZMCA Park, that confused us because it wasn't in that place last time, today we headed off to find the four TMGT caches and a few other new ones that have popped up since our last visit. What a fabulous mural. We had no trouble finding the information and spent a lot of time inspecting the mural of the Endeavour. We have often wondered how so many men and stores could fit into a ship so small, by comparison with today's ships. No refrigeration in those days either. The awesome mural of Joseph Banks was pretty special because he is an ancestor of Mrs S's. He was obviously well off as well. The stats of the stores were quite amazing and we imagine that bread must have got pretty hard after a few weeks at sea.
Thanks for bringing us here to see this awesome mural. Have a FAV.

Out and about for a few days for a bit of a road trip around the Coromandel area. Day Two of my road trip. I started my travels in Thames and ended my day in Whitianga. Nice one! A good wee multi. Enjoyed finding the information and the short walk to the cache. Found in the second place I checked. TFTC, Biggles.
What a great mural! Definitely a good idea to have the cache a bit further as a lot of people hanging out. Cache quickly located. TFTC!!
I'm having a really bad geocaching day. Muggles at every GZ or can't find the cache.
There were about 10 kids hanging around GZ when I arrived, so I hung around annoyingly until they moved on. Quick find after that
Thanks for putting this here for us to find

An important objective in today’s travels was to find some more of the TMGT caches. Came for an early evening walk to here before dinner. No problems with the questions - the cache wasn’t where I was expecting it to be as I interpreted the hint incorrectly. However it still didn’t take all that long to find and fortunately there was nobody about at GZ at this time of day. Signed log, recorded code, TFTC!
Found with my dad (Hole-in-one2), what an amazing info board, it was so cool, thanks for setting this up. TFTC
Easy find on our visit over from Cooks Bay where we are staying after abandoning our holiday on the Gold Coast because of the rain they never get until we visit lol. Tftc
Well, I’m really learning a lot about Captain Cook and his amazing adventures. Incredible what was achieved from such a small boat so long ago. Luckily there is a nice seat in the shade by the information board so we didn’t get cooked in the sun while we got the numbers. Everything is okay at GZ, despite it being muggle zone.
Neat little hide!! Out for a quick TMGT search near our holiday home, after a day at Cathedral Cove! TFTC
Hoping to bag this one tonight a bit far to walk for the final as that was my mode of transport for the night. All solved though
What a lovely mural. I got on the Endeavour in Picton last year. Sadly we could not go below but I recognise the upper deck. Doesn't look as cramped on the mural as in real life.
Had come in to town with Dad to watch the second half of the Liverpool v Wolves game at Frankie’s after they had said they’d put it on for us the day before. Turned out they didn’t have the right channel so we abandoned that and grabbed this instead. Had taken photos of the relevant info previously and calculated the final GZ at home so it was a quick grab and sign today. Thanks for the consolation cache.
Located this one on a day trip to the area. Great little multi that provides heaps of interesting data about the Endeavour TFTC.
A bit of education and maths to be done then onto the final and there it was. Cheers, much nicer day here than at Mercury Bay.
Possibly the last find for this trip, head home tomorrow. Thanks for the many caches you have set up,always accurate coordinates and well maintained. Cheers B
Well this was a bit unexpected, I managed to get an opportunity to get a long weekend and since I was making my way up to Taranaki, I decided that once I finished work on Thursday instead of making my way back home to Wellington I would make my way North.
Got up early this morning and decided that I would go to the Coromandel and back to Auckland to pick up the final lot and the balance of the TMGT caches that I needed to find.
After finding GC8D1PM - TMGT- River of Mangroves - (Whitianga), it was time to continue on my way around Whitianga to the next TMGT cache that I wanted to find today.
Arriving near GZ I managed to get a safe parking spot across the road from the wharf, the area was totally full of muggles with vehicles and boat trailers everywhere near by at the entrance to this lovely little reserve, I think that there must be a big fishing competition on as there are boats heading out into the beep all over the place.
Once I got out of the car I decided to go and gather the required information and once done it wasnt long before I had some numbers that I was happy with and then it was just a matter of making my way to the final GZ. Decided to read the hint and there wasnt too many spots that the cache could be and I soon spotted something and I soon realised that it was the cache.
Managed to retrieve the cache, opened, retrieved the code and signed the logsheet and then it was time to return the cache back to where I got it from. Thanks Darby&Joan for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot. TFTC TNLNSL (15117). A great spot for the final.
Now it is time to go back to my car and make my way to the next cache that I wanted to find today........

TFTC. A nice easy fun multi geocache. Driving close to the geocache I had a sneaking suspicion that i knew where we were being lead to and sure enough i was right, we had been here before and admired the Endeavour mural. Nice to be brought back here.
