As I got here the station was not operating but then part way though looking for the cache a whir and other noises could be heard from inside. I got all excited but then nothing.
We have been saving caches in Kumara for when we might need a cache for a certain day/souvenir but as we have some saved ones 'closer to home' today we decided to go and clean them up and finally grab the Adlab aswell, with potential to squeeze in a few new placements.
A nice quick find here in the second place I looked. Thanks for the cache

21 October 2021 17:20. Just a short walk down from the barrier gate, and then the search began. Found easily (for once), signed and returned. Began walking back up the hill when a van come down.... Did we want a look inside? How could we refuse? Hadn't realised how noisy it would be inside, even with earplugs! Tftc.
#10,053. Day 2 of the extended Labour Weekend geocaching road trip. I flew down with geocaching buddy Infoferret yesterday with a target list of geotour caches, adventure labs, puzzle finals, a few virtuals and a hike to get the DGSC final. We can't resist stopping to pick up a few traditionals on the way to boost the overall numbers.
Heading now towards Kumara but decided to stop and pick up some traditional caches along the road. Decided to detour off the main road to do the power station cache. We wandered downhill to the station and started the search. I was checking all sorts of places near the apparent GZ when IF some meters away called out found it. Glad she has better eyesight than me. Signed and replaced where found. Thanks maitahisteve for the cache.
We were heading back to the car when an engineer drove down the road and asked us if we wanted to see inside the station. Why not. Well its hell of a noisy inside is one reason. Luckily he gave us some earplugs to wear. Interesting to see how a small power station works but relief to be outside again away from the racket.

Went for a short walk. Left a bit of redx on the rocks. Thats geocaching for you. TFTC

Nice drive along the track and water race to the power station. That culvert is very slippery but I managed to avoid that hazard. TFTC # 17,387
Came for a drive along this road to see where all the water was coming from . Interesting to learn of the history Surprisingly quick find today. Thanks for the cache
It is quite spooky to be down here but the cache was quickly located which for some reason surprised me. LOL
A lovely evening for a run and geocache. I have been running bits of the wilderness trail and today's section is my favourite so far. Very quiet and peaceful today with stunning views. TFTC
It's quite a complex little hydro scheme. Found a lot quicker than I expected. TFTC
I made my approach harder than I needed by making a bee line from where I parked instead of walking down the road. Quick find. Thanks for placing.
Thanks for putting out this cache for woolwood9 and I to find!
SL **tm/ww NZ** (may just be a black smudge on the many wet or plastic logs)
*We soon had another good cache located!*
Good to see the power station up close.

It is time to go to Kumara to locate the nearby caches.
I think I have been here before but without success. It started off that way today as well until I was 7m up the road from my GZ moving every rock that would move.
Cheers for the cache.

Second week of school holidays and off on a small family camper van holiday between kids football games & practices! West Coast here we come.
After another night in Hokitika. Up early again to catch reflections in Lake Mahinipua. Then a lovely walk to the beach...and now the back road through goldsborough to stay the night in Jacksons. Fun wee side loop. Jucy camper did well chugging around here. Cheers.

Day 4 of our West Coast road trip and time to head back to Christchurch. A few diversions along the way to collect caches. This one was a bit daunting at first but fortunately found within the allocated time frame. TFTC
Left Zara at Kumara Junction while we went exploring. Parked top side here and walked down to GZ for a quick hunt to locate this one. Left our calling card here. Cheers
Saturday 8 February. From Kumara Junction to Greymouth today. So lets go exploring.
Making a long weekend out of Waitangi Day exploring the West Coast with Zara Toby, Bullertrout and Bro. Its Waitangi Day today. Exploring Hokitika, Ross, Hokitika George, Lake Mahinapua, Lake Kaniere areas today. Great time and visited some amazing places..

Found on a three day caching journey over to the West Coast. We really enjoyed the challenging hours spent in solving the many puzzle caches and now the signing off on the log books. We had a great spell of weather as we traveled along the many roads in the area. Many thanks to the various cache owners for placing and maintaining their caches. TFTC
Had a great day traveling from Oamaru to the West Coast, grabbed heaps of caches, and had a lot of fun. Many Thanks Bitsprayer
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on our Waitangi Day drive to Hokitika, where we are staying a couple of nights.
We first approached from above, then realised our mistake, and carried on down to the dam. By the time I reached GZ, SW had already found the cache - one of those hides that could take a while to track down, so a lucky break. Interesting spot, we had never carried on down this road before so thanks for bringing me here. TFTC.

#17798. I didn't reaslise this power scheme was here (thanks for bringing us here). I was pleased to spot this one soon after I started searching. TFTC.
What a deserted place today! Just as well, as it took some time to locate the cache. TFTC!!
Riding part of the West Coast Wilderness Trail today but first a few park and grabs.
Down the power station road towards Kapitea reservoir.
When we looked at GZ a collective groan emanated but it turned out to not be too bad.

Oh this could have been nasty. We have found our share of rock wall caches, some are very quick and relatively pain free and others slow pain staking experiences. We wandered up and down the wall, looking for a likely spot, and within a few seconds I lifted out the correct cover stone. Phew, quick and pain free! The log was signed and returned as I had found it.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

A surprisingly quick easy find with some good spotting by Mrs W.E.K.A. as we set out down this side road. TFTC
Getting to know my way around the West Coast, so many things to discover. Seem to have had a few rocky searches in the last couple of days, didn't take long to track this one down. TFTC .
Took a little hunting but got there in the end, with Ms_KR.
Time to head home after a nice weekend on the coast. The day was great, sunny and rain free!.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

The great thing about geocaching is that it brings you to places you haven't been before. We probably would have arrived here eventually but the cache just made that visit a bit quicker. A short hunt and container was found. tftc
Muggle hubby found it , 2 Nd to find , grey spot , you should see it wen the dam is full and the water just sprays out full tack ! Amazing!
FTF with Hazedarus.
We had returned to Nelson a couple of days before these new caches were published so knew we would have a nice adventure when we came back, a combination of walks and park and grabs.
We have driven past here before but not ventured down to the power station.
This cache wasn't such a quick find but a systematic search unearthed it in the end.
Another bonus here apart from the FTF was seeing the first NZ native clematis in bloom this year, always a joy to see in the bush.
Thank you maitahisteve.

FTF With Holymu. Auto route wanted me to take an approach I thought the better of. In hind sight I would have achieved it but less a passenger so not an option anyway. Not an easy find here with the GPS thumbing its nose. Overhead power lines do that sometimes. It came down to a systematical search with Holymu the winner. Thank you maitahisteve
