Woo hoo! Another celebration event! Down in Victoria for the long awaited (and necessarily postponed) Wangaratta MEGA, and a little holiday chasing the usual (oldies, counties and windmills). Just for something different we are adding ALs to the hit list and the graves of the regionally buried dead premiers. Lol the things we will do for a cache! Managed to cache with some friends at the Mega along the way - always a lovely treat. Today we thought we would tackle as many cache types and humanly possible in a day! Thanks to all the cache owners for creating and maintaining the fun. Thanks for the cache.

#1235

This was the thirty-first find of 35 finds for the day and cache type 12 (CCE) of 15 types for the day. Mizmaz and I had hungry bellies from our epic day of caching and driving, and were very grateful for the club to host dinner. We even had a little trouble finding the entry (hangs head in shame) and upon arriving, decided to sit outside and chat caching with other cachers. Thank you to the club for the delicious dinner.

I seem to have missed logging this one. Enjoyed the meal and company. Thanks for organising

Chasing a personal target of “14 types in one day”, this dinner was ticked off as “Type #12: CCE”. Due to the greater than expected crowd numbers attending the first sitting, was lucky to find a seat with a few friends outside on the more covid friendly deck. Enjoyed the company, chat and especially the food. Yummo! Early sitting done, still had daylight to finish off my last two types before bed.

Wangaratta Mega trip Day 3. It has taken quite some time to get this trip going so it is a great feeling to be on the road for a great weekend away with great caching with friends and new friends. Today was the first day of the Mega itself, and started with the events of the day. The Maze was a great experience. There were 20 Gadget Labs to be solved, some quite a challenge. After lunch I headed out with Fitzy_1965 & MinnieK to get to as many cache type in a day as we could without going to Mt Buller for a Webcam cache. The day ended with the Community dinner which was an amazing bonus to be provided to the Mega.

This was a great way to relax and spend time unwinding with a few other people, some we have not been able to spend much time with today.

Thanks.

Me and flintstones did 15 caches on one day as many others did. It started with the welcome event and picking up the trad there. Next it was off to mount buller, to get a photo at the webcam. After breathing in the air of the clouds it was back down the hill, we did a few caches on the way down and then it was off to the CITO. A quick chat with some other 14 in a day hunters and then it was back on the road. Back in wangratta we did the remaining types; the puzzle, whereigo, letterbox and multi wich we only needed to pick up, and the earth cache at the billabong wich featured a nice walk. Then all the remaind was to take some photos for the virtual, log the locationless, do the maze and some very cool gadget lab caches before heading to the community dinner event and of course attend the mega.

After a short notice (from the doc) which meant we could go to the Mega event but had not much planned. We decided to follow the plan of some fellow cachers to do 15 caches in a day. Kept us busy for most of the day and was a lot of fun and quite doable for me at that stage. Enjoyed running into friends all over the place at the events but also at the top of Mt Buller and at the Billabong. A great day which we enjoyed a lot.

Great finale of a wonderful day. Sitting with friends eating yummy food, doesn't get better than that. Wait, the food was free! Wow unbearable. Thanks so much for organizing!

Thank you GeocachingVictoria for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

With the current Covid issues I didn't feel comfortable booking in for a meal so I didn't put in a will attended but did stop for the briefest time. I heard the parmi was wonderful and I would have loved to stop for one maybe one day in the future when our world is in a better place we can get one.

Thank you Geocaching Victoria for the Celebration event

Attended with SirJ-Oz and Muggle-L. I was late to log my attendance for this one and so we arrived on site making alternative dinner plans just in case things didn't work out, but the Great God Parma smiled upon me and offered up in sacrifice his first-born child... er, chicken.

The football club put on an excellent spread and the room was buzzing with conversation. Around the table we swapped stories - not all caching related - and ate far more than was strictly necessary before the evening wrapped up and we wandered off into the night.

Thanks for organising this event, it was a great way to wrap up the first day of the Mega.

15-Jan-22
thanks for the free dinner.

15-Jan-22
After a day of caching scramping & I had some pre-dinner drinks & nibbles with SnappyTomCats at their van before venturing over to the Footy Club for our 8pm reservation. We had a table at the back of the hall with 4 others and were the last to receive our meal. There are benefits to that though, extras Wink
Thanks Geocaching Victoria for your generosity in providing meals for us hungry geocachers Smile

15-Jan-22
Fantastic meals well done to the catering staff and cooks. Delicious. It was wonderful to be able to sit and relax with friends old and new, catching up with some of the adventures we have already had at the Mega, the funny and the not so funny, the blood sacrifices we have made to the geocaching gods and the finds and dnfs. Great evening thanks so much. TFTE

I got micaparamedic to eat the meal I logged as I was too hesitant to enter the venue due to covid concerns, so it was a very brief micro-visit for me.

Thanks for all of your efforts Geocaching Victoria.

This was the third event for the day but so great to catch up with old familiar faces, after so long. This was something a bit different and looked like a great feed.

Thanks for putting on the event for us to attend.

Thanks to the committee and to the football club for the event. It was great to catchup with people after a very busy day. TFTCC.

#12852 - 19:55; This event was a great way to wrap up the first day of caching in and around Wangaratta with Sol de lune as part of our attendance at the Mega. It's a pity that two sittings were required which, along with other Covid precautions put a dampener on more social interaction. Despite that, still managed to have a nice feed and catch up with some new caching friends and some old ones. A great night was had by all and a cold beer didn't hurt either! TFTE GeocachingVictoria Cool

Day 3 of our adventure in Wangaratta with Rapidlywild.
Today like everyone else we decided to try and get as many types in a day that we could.
So after heading to the top and doing the web cam we headed back down the mountain, heading to the CITO when back to Wang after that doing many other caches along the way.

Called into this one to refuel for more evening caching.
We chose the 8 pm sitting which was good nice to sit in the air con after a warm one today.
Thanks to the football club for putting this one on during these hard covid times, but social distancing looked to be working fine here.

Thanks for hosting the Community Celebration GeocachingVictoria

We came, said hello. Thank you.

15-Jan-22
The lure of a couple of extra icons (Maze and Locationless) meant that I was more keen than normal to attend a Mega Event. Covid issues asside, a plan was hatched, rehatched, changed and finalised to attend for a few days in Victoria with Steeba, Wilbert67 and The Rats. Another trip away like countless others that we have done before, and yet totally different, thanks to Covid.

The caches were excellent. The company, as always, fantastic. We find more than our fair share of Adventure Labs, as well as complting a few series. I think we walked away with 300 finds, not a bad haul. The laughs were endless, but that is to be expected on trips away like this.

Thanks so much to all of the cache hiders, and especially to the event organisers. I cannot imagine the hoops that you had to keep jumping through to get this off the ground. A special thank you for bringing the Maze Down Under!

Please forgive the boiler-plate log, I assure you it is no reflection on the caching experience of our few days away. Again thank you to all cache owners for their hides.

Cheers

e.Gregory1 and Freddo decided to travel to Wangaratta for Geocaching Victoria’s first 2022 Mega event. The attraction of GeoMaze icon was just too tempting. We packed the Land Cruiser for a bubble environment. There would be some public exposure but we would be keeping it minimal. Fortunately we did not bother with any warm clothes. Fortunately we packed some Bushmans with +20% DEET. There were caches to find and we found caches. We saw a lot of interesting places and met the occaisional geocacher or two in the field.

A brief visit from the SA bubble.

After arriving at the Mega with LuckyL10n around lunchtime and checking in, we hit up Maze and the AL's around the Mega site. From there we headed out and about the NKH series grabbing about half of those before heading back into town for a couple of more different types of caches to hopefully manage 12 in the day. We finished the day, as mos people did, attending the great community dinner event...and as it turned out a great way to finish the day.

Thanks GeocachingVictoria

Quite the popular event and with the nasty humidity in town after last nights storm, the bar was certainly a welcome sight for all. Big Grin

A good opportunity to meet some cachers from down this way as I enjoyed the meal and a couple of cleansing ales.

Thanks to the committee for pulling this together and for the grafters behind the scened feeding the hungry hoards and clearing up after them. Bravo. [^]

15-Jan-22
Thanks Geocaching Victoria for putting on such a logistically difficult event. We came for a short time and ended up having a drink and chat with a small number of people at the bar outside. That was most enjoyable, as we all fought for shade in the balmy evening.

I had been set to attend another Victorian Mega but the damn pandemic began and for obvious reasons one was cancelled and one was postponed. I was pleased the postponed Wangaratta event went ahead but have to admit I was still apprehensive about the COVID situation. Although attending all events, (except 1 of the CITOs) keeping distance was still a priority. I had a great time touring with 1TOOLMAN and Budgietas although there was an empty void where SSR should have been.
As well as Wangaratta, we visited The Paps, Mt Buller, Benalla, Glenrowan, Winton and even popped in to Lex country, having dinner at Brady’s Railway Hotel. Our find numbers were low but our laugh count was high so I call that a win!

15-Jan-22
It was great to be able to visit Wangaratta for the Mega and associated events.

I drove across from Adelaide with Freddo. We took a week to get there and back as we meandered our way around northern Victoria, camping mostly along the river and generally avoiding contact with other people as far as possible to minimise covid risks.

While at the Mega we teamed up with gridge98 & Co. Most logs were signed FEGC (ie Freddo, e.gregory1 and gridge98 & Co).

We targeted some specific caches of interest, but also took the opportunity to find other random caches opportunistically as we were passing. Most of the puzzle caches were solved prior to leaving Adelaide in preparation for the trip.

Like others, I was hesitant to enter the venue due to covid concerns, so spent the time chatting with similar minded attendees outside.

Thanks Geocaching Victoria for hosting the event.

A long-awaited trip with fitzy_1965 to Wangaratta for the 2021/2022 Mega!

Day 2 saw us up early to head off to the event and catch up with people we haven’t seen for a long while. The Maze and the on-site Labs were our priority before setting out. We then teamed up with albida33 for the day and ended up getting 12 different types without really trying. Back to camp at about 5pm to get ready for the dinner event. The shower block was a welcome sight! Dinner was great and again a great way to be able to sit and chat with people. Thankfully our tent dried during the day so back to sleeping in comfort tonight.

Thanks to all CO’s for their cache placement and maintenance.

15-Jan-22
Superb effort to put this on - those Wang Magpies did a great job and the meal was huge - they are accustomed to feeding athletes I thinks. Great night to celebrate a fun and eclectic community of 'cachers'

15-Jan-22
Great night after a great day caching. Thanks to the Wangaratta Footy Club for putting on a fantastic night. We celebrated alright ??

Find #79 of our Mega trip. This is my first ever Community celebration cache. The dinner was magnificent and the service was well organised so that we weren’t queueing up. Nice to sit around and chat to our dinner company so thanks to everyone for organising and to the footy club for the lovely meal.

We had an amazing night and 10/10 for all the hard work and effort of putting together the meals.
The meals were top marks and excellent quality.

Thank you to the organisers for this event. Great to see so many people supporting these events and the caching community.

In Wangaratta for the Mega, we traveled over early so we could get some local caching in. After stowing the shop in a storage shed so it wasn't bouncing around in the back of the car we set up in the caravan park and can now cache and explore. After a Very busy day in the shop, we were looking forward to a nice relaxing dinner. The Clubrooms did an awesome job serving a rowdy bunch of cachers. Very enjoyable and generous meal! Attended with hevwalker, scramping, suss vulture, Firesafe and Honeysucker. TFTE

My first ever community event and my first Mega! It's been so wonderful to meet the geocaching community. Everyone has welcomed us veritable newbies with plenty of tips, generous time spent sharing stories and lots of laughs!

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again tomorrow ??

Thanks for the amazing dinner. The food was wonderful, service was friendly and it was very well organised. Well done to the whole organising team!

15-Jan-22
The food looked great. Friendly people chatting and eating at a wonderful event. Thanks for organising this one this evening.

15-Jan-22
After a very big day, this was the perfect opportunity to have a cold drink and have a chat to some of the catchers that I had met for the first time during the day. It’s great to put faces to caching names, particularly the owners of geocaches that I have found over the years. Met a cacher today from another state that I had given a favourite point to. Remembered the cache just from his caching name.
Thanks very much for a very well organised series of events Geocaching Victoria, it has been a great day. Cheers

15-Jan-22
We were there at 6.00pm and had a great time at our table with lots of interesting topics - Donna from Little Donna even managed to fix IF's mobile phone so that he could hear incoming calls!
The parma's were very well made and were probably a little too generous in size and the service very well organised.
Well done footy club Big Grin

Day two of the Wangaratta oddessey with AlphaDeltaIndigo and Ying~Yang. Mt Buller to Wangaratta, started in the misty cold, ended in a much warmer evening, but still somehow muggy all along the way. Today we aimed to get as many cache types as possible, and I'm very happy to say we achieved 15, though the Mega event itself is unlikely to be able to be claimed on the Saturday, for reasons that can only be described as idiotic from GCHQ (especially since they still can't work out how to use the UTC time standard to get logging working from across the dateline [:(!]).

Having started just after the 10y events, I'm very happy to be finally able to log a few of these. Excellent event too, caterers were on point.

This was find 15 of 19. TFTC GeocachingVictoria!

Watawieh from Norfolk Island ???? South Pacific.

I have joined forces with TeamAstro to attend the Wangaratta Mega.

We had registered and picked up tickets for the 6pm dinner. But when we got to the door there were simply too many people inside for us to feel COVID safe. So we retired to the outdoor bar and enjoyed a ?? and chatted to some other cachers. TFTC

Great to see the gang of cachers. We sat outside around the round table with ice cold drinks from the bar! Great to chat to travelling cachers. Massive envy at your life styles.

A mega jaunt with endeavour3 saw us caching this cache and writing in the log, then we moved on. A lovely place to explore.

Thanks GeocachingVictoria and clear skies from TeamAstro. ?? Cache the planet! ??

# 7712 Day 2 of our Wangaratta Mega trip. Cloudy, humid and hot summer conditions. Lots of great caches, events and people. Today we concentrated on the maze and excellent series of labs.
We dropped by briefly before heading to dinner in town. Just too crowded for us currently.

Hi there GeocachingVictoria, we attended your cache Community Celebration in Wangaratta today.

An absolutely fabulous meal, conversation and drinks with friends while attending to one of our Wangaratta Event activities.

#16580 @2000
A road trip with Fox in Jox, AngelG27, and ZQX (Team FATZ) to attend the Wangaratta Mega. Today was picking off some particular D/T caches, attending events and aiming for 12 or 13 cache types in a day. The final event for the day. Unfortunately I was unable to enjoy the meal, so gave my ticket away to someone else, and did some of the gadget caches instead. TFTC.
