**#21,499**Got to love the forgotten trails, downside is the lack of maintenance but this one seems to have been recently cleaned up, no issues with the find here, thanks
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit & doing the things that we want to do we were staying in the Warkworth area & decided we needed a walk, so headed out to the Auckland Regional Council Park at Tawharanui parked up & ended up doing the 2 Adventure Labs, a Virtual, an Earthcache & 14 Traditionals, all while walking 10.5kms weather was a bit on & off, with showers rolling through on a regular basis, which ended up cutting our day short but never fear, well be back another day to finish off what we missed today this cache was easily found, logbook completed & then replaced back into position pleased to add all those 'smiley faces' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:SL #5,097 for Us!
Lol we were looking in the rong place once we found it we were amazed that the pole was still standing the forgotten trail looks cool but sadly we didn't have enough time to explore the trail. Thanks for the cache3pearnuts
Made a plan today to come back to Tawharanui to collect some more of the caches that are placed here. Happy to finally make this end of the park as usually we have already worn ourselves out. Our last find on the forgotten trail this afternoon. No problems finding this one. Congratulations on your 100th hide.
Great cache. I lost ph signal a few caches back but was able to find this one. Thanks for the fun
Spring is finally here. A beautiful sunny day, warm and perfect to spend geocaching at Tawharanui. Kids did well hiking for over 4 hours and finding lots of geocaches on the way. Once we found the post the cache was easy to find for the little one. TFTC
Thankyou Tramyard for taking me down to the start of this nice, to a great extent untrodden, track! Didn't get the chance to plod on down today but should do on a return to the area to clear s'more caches.
Today we had a rather long day leaving home at 4.50am, arriving at Tawharanui Regional Park and walking/geocaching from 8.40am - 4.50pm. Such a blast! Definitely the best part of the day over here at the end of the peninsula at Takatu Point. Lovely bush to walk through and amazing scenery. TFTC
Blundered about in the wrong area until i finally saw what i was after. Was hoping this track wasnt too overgrown (it was in parts but still do-able). TFTC
Have had my eye on this park for a while but always assumed that we would need to stay close by as likely needed 2 days to complete the caches so hadn't got around to it. Mrs Stik-a-Crane came up with a plan to leave home at 5am and continue until complete and we should be able to get to most of them. From start of car park to return to car park GPS read 9:38 for time and 20.46km distance walked. We did continue with some of the others along the roadway afterwards but did not count those in the timings.
As we approached although the cache was hidden we could see it from the path. Signed log and returned with a little leaf cover over it.
Thanks for the cache.

In the area today after Mrs stik-a-crane planed for a small group to explore the Regional Park that we had previously unsuccessfully tried booking camping time at......Seeing there were many caches in the park there was talk it may require a couple of visits to gather all the caches up for offer, but as my goal for the year is 3 cache finds per day, the thought of even gathering half the available caches was going to help my target.....plus to be able to explore the park a second or third time might not be a bad thing.....
The carer was booked for 24 hours, as we had a 5am start, joined up with the team and off we headed .....arrived at the carpark with only a few cars already parked and headed off to this cache after ticking off the available ad.lab locations....heading along the North coast trail to the end of the peninsula taking a few detours as needed, and as it was overcast and quite windy there was only a handful of muggles around......found with Keylev and one muggle....
Congrats on your 100th hide...you have been busy.....the cache was in great shape....

Walking the North Coast track to the Point, then back again via the South / Fishermans and Eco tracks. TFTC
No robin seen here today but two cute piwakawaka did come and hang out with us. This was our final cache for the day. Tftc.
This took us a bit longer than it should have as our phone GPS directed us to the wrong spot, but using logic (and our Garmin) we soon spotted the correct area and had the cache in hand.
So strange that this trail has been seemingly abandoned but very pleasing to be made aware of its existence.

After 7 weeks stuck in lockdown, finally the restrictions have been eased a little and caching within the region is allowed again. I was invited along by tramyard for a day out at Tāwharanui, ending up with over 60 finds and 10 hours spent in the regional park, as well as a couple of caches on the way there. The views, weather, and caches found were all brilliant, and I appreciate all the COs taking the time to highlight such a beautiful area with their caches.
First one on this trail, the terrain wasn't too bad at this stage A nice example of tramouflage! And a great photo on the cache page too. TFTC

Great to be back in Tāwharanui and to see this Regional Park open in current situation... Also I'm glad to be able to "travel" for recreation. So we did! Visited this beautiful park with lumin298 exact 1 year after my first journey here! I had some unfinished business in the park
Ended up with 20km hike and 10h in the nature!
All good here!

Today, there was a scheduled tree planting day at Tawharanui Regional Park, I was very keen to be a part and also earn a souvenir for the "Let’s improve the outdoors - Locationless Cache" GC8NEAT and so me and alunb joined forces to come along for a few hours. We planted Manuka and Kanuka seedlings and a few flax plants too. About 150 people turned up, later me and alunb had a few beers in his campervan while waiting for the b.b.q at the woolshed, which was provided by the Auckland City Council.
Sorry the C.O tramyard couldn't join us today! He was missed by me and alunb. We had a fantastic day and a nice feed too was provided. I have added some fotos.
Anyway, I had to check my phone to make sure I was coming to this cache the correct way. I can get down to the fence easily, but heading back I had to push the e-bike a little up the uneven grassy bank. Over the fence I went and after a few seconds spotted the correct brace. That was the easy bit, now I'm heading down further along this unused trail. Thanks tramyard.

Awesome walk out to and around the point came back along the forgotten trail , I’ll be back.
My second full day in the Tawharanui Regional Park. I am going for a walk along the North Coast Track to see how far my body will take me.
It will be interesting to see how many caches I will sign off.
Cheers for the cache.

Earlier in the month, a plan had been formed for Team G0LD, to make a one day raid on Tawharanui to try and find as many caches as possible. Friday night, the weather was looking decidedly dodgy and the forecast for Saturday wasn't that good either, but we decided to carry on anyway, and only head for home when the rain arrived.
Well, although it was windy and a little cold, the rain held off all day and we managed over 70 finds on our 18+ km walk around the park and surrounds.
Our last one along the old trail. A little overgrown in places but not too bad overall. No Toutouwai spotted today. Nice quick find with the good hint. TFTC

We didn't see any Toutouwai today but we'd spotted a saddleback around the last cache. We didn't see any kakahe either but I really did enjoy this part of the reserve. Another quick find here
Out with Team Gold (0B80B8 and Lis crew) to see how many caches we could collect in the Tawharanui Regional park. This was another quick find with a good hint. Signed log before heading back along the park. TFTC
Easy find. Would never have found the little track if not for geocaching for this little hide. TFTC
I was lured to the easily seen new structure and searched there before realizing that I needed to be somewhere else. TFTC.
We are spending a birthday out walking the hills of Tawharanui. Heading into the forgotten trail and soon had the Toutouwai in hand. Thanks.
Found this while on a bike ride around Takatu. Nice spot - will come back again to explore the track... once I have a really good reason to...
TFTC!!!

It was at this point that Trammy's prior knowledge came into play as he knew a way to loop the track in the most efficient manner. We headed into the wilds and had a good time, and lunch. T F T C tramyard, nice clunky camo.
It's Geocaching event day out at Tarawhanui Regional Park and there are plenty of caches up for grabs there with much diversity. I was keen for a full day caching and so it transpired with 60 finds, 26kms walked and a real nice days weather to liven the day up. I was caching for the most part with Tramyard and he proved good company and an extra pair of eyes now and then. A great day and Summer must be just around the corner with mid-20s temps all day for us.

Well done Tramyard! It was so lovely here we stopped for lunch in the shade. Such cheerful birds the black robin rather like the CO.
Heading out to Tawharanui for a girls day caching with Merlot58, Supernannny and Nette1234. The youngest and fittest in the group arrived at gz ahead of the others and had the cache in hand and signed by the time the rest of the team caught up.
A plan was hatched last week to come up here with Supernanny, Nette1234 and Jag50 to start tackling the huge number of caches that have come out recently. Congratulations on your 100th hide! A beautiful spot here with lots of birdlife
Another straight forward find with Vistra. Nice to be drawn to an area of the park that otherwise we would have missed. TFTC
AliGle and I headed back out to Tawharanui today to explore some new areas and knock off more of the caches out there. After an exploration of the coastline, we joined the coastal track for a loop walk back to the car park. Made a quick find of the cache here... think next time we are here we'll explore this forgotten trail. TFTC!
Another easy find. Coordinates bang on! Good clue led me to the find relatively quickly. Congrats on your 100th! TFTC
{FTF} A great day beckoned , Im not working and off we go!
Nicely done here! All good, thanks!

Congratulations on your 100th hide tramyard! A lovely spot too - lots of bird song in amonst the peaceful quiet. We had met G-2 earlier on our walk and knew that he had made the FTF here although we had hoped that it might be us. We didn't follow the trail here but did see the other end of it.
