Thanks for the history of these poles and to be honest, I dont think Ive ever noticed them before. Im just taking a slow scenic drive home from Albury, not that I can see anything as it really late. The cache was where it was supposed to be but the kids wasnt on properly and the zip lock back was open. There was a little dry mud in and around it. I closed up the bag proper like, and managed to get all the dirt off that was stopping the lid from locking on. TFTC
Interesting information in the cache details. Thank chewinprickles for bringing us here.
Called in to check on a report that the lid was missing. Found the lid in the hide but covered with dried mud. Gave it a rough clean and refitted to the cache. Still probably needs a new logbook but I'll get to that soon. Thanks
Heading home to Ballarat after a couple days in Canberra and stopped in for this one. Cache was found with issue, however the cache lid is missing and the bag with the log was full of dirt. Once the log was cleaned up, it was still abled to be signed, so all good on that front. Replaced the cache as best as possible, however without a lid the next rain event will not be good for it.Thanks for the reason to visit the area Chewinprickles...
Very interesting to see and learn about these posts here. Found with jackez74 TFTC
Matho64 and I are on our way home from Shepparton. We decided to check out the solar farms and search for this cache too. This was an interesting area, didnt know it existed.Collected TB to continue its journey.TFTC Chewinpickles
Heading to Bright today, I stopped at a number of caches to break my journey. Nice quick find here. Many thanks to Chewinprickles for the cache.
Another trip to Tumut to catch up with family and collect some of our grandchildren who will be visiting for the New South Wales school holidays. We can never resist the opportunity to do some caching in our travels and this trip was no different. We focused on a few areas in and managed to complete a number of Ad Labs as well as traditionals, multis and puzzles. A couple of Virtuals in Wangaratta were an added bonus. We always enjoy searching with our grandchildren who managed to find a number before we did.Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache Chewinprickles.**SKI Pair****
Grabbing a few different hides while passing through the area.Stopped of here and made this find easy enough. This was some interesting infoThanks Chewinprickles for placing the cache and doing the maintenance needed, so we can find this cache and be alittle more educated.
First day, Benalla to Ballarat. Beautiful start of the day, lots of caches and labs. Thanks to all the CO for their hides. J+J.au
First day of a little road trip to Victoria. Travelling from the Illawarra via Batemans Bay to Benalla. Lots of driving and only a few little detours and stops to pick up caches.TFTC Wilbert67
Thanks to Chewinprickles for this cache. An interesting location, we didn't know that this was going on here.Nice to travel along this road and see these poles and the solar farm too.
Thanks for bringing me here, Chewinprickles. This subject had never entered my mind, so you have widened my knowledge. The cache is in excellent condition.
Found by Mary and David at 15:50. Heading to Canberra with a caching group to make a start before the Mega next Easter. Full marks for finding so much information about this place. Would never have know about these poles among all the wattle, and their purpose. A FP. Our thanks to Chewinprickles.
Out with Geowife and Geodogs exploring the local area. All good here. Beautiful countryside. Now onto the next one for the day. TFTC
Found at 11am with Harrowang as chauffeurs, SL TFTC. Mark remembers these from his youth and it was interesting to see the 'end' results. Treated Pine still going well, but unfortunately the hardwood aren't labelled.

Out for a drive in the area and chasing a few geocaches but not too many. Travelled up from Goughs Bay through Benella, then up to Glenrowan and back a similar or different way, who knows
What the... weird, but interesting!
A quick find and on the road again

Nice little trip with the GeoKids and our niece. Easy find, the kids were super impressed! TFTC
Heading back to Wangaratta after spending the day timing at Winton raceway and there was enough light left to grab a few caches. There are a heap of poles around here, like how some of them have been here for a while! Found the cache quickly. Thanks to Chewinprickles for this one
Driving home from the Rutherglen Mega Event I made a point of driving past this cache so i could make the find. Find it I did after tripping on some fencing wire and traveling proverbially "a--e over t-t" to land splat on my face. Fortunately nothing broken.
In all our travels we would not have even thought to travel to this location.
(HaHa). In your dreams, these cachers do.
[:(!] Thanks for an awesome effort.
Devilish
Brilliant and Clever
I like it
Another one off the list

After Eudes nearly came to grief on the wire tripping hazard we made a quick find and sign at 3pm
thanks chewinprickles
thanks chewinprickles
This was next on our back-way journey up to Glenrowan today and once we'd negotiated the tripping hazard on the way to GZ , we were soon signing the log at 15:00.
Strangely given the TB Hotel neighbour a few hundred metres to the south, this had 3 TBs whereas the former only had the one. Very odd.
TNLNSL. Thanks Chewinprickles.

After completing half of my mission yesterday, It was now day and it was time to find a few caches in the Benalla LGA before heading to the centre of the Wangaratta LGA and then moving on to Craig’s Hut for a CITO.
As I was passing by this one, I had to stop for a look.
Well this is something out of the ordinary, most of them look to be in good condition but one of them is not looking too good at all.
**Thanks to Chewinprickles for placing this cache.**

Caching on my way to Melbourne today. A quick find here today. What an interesting science experiment with these poles?! Tftc!
My first find on the way to the mega at Whittlesea super pump ticket to my 600 only 14 left to go thanks for the hide
Whittlesea Mega Trip Day 2. Holbrook to Whittlesea. I thought I had lots of time today, but wow is it easy to spend. I spend two hours doing the Labs, Lab Bonus and Multi IN Holbrook before heading onwards and southwards. I did a few rest areas and a few clusters of caches along roads parallelling th highway, but I only managed to get into the Whittlesea Show grounds just before the first event. The social event was fun and then there were a few extra caches to get once it was dusk. A great, if long day.
The next detour off the highway took me to three caches along the solar farm road. Three great caches.
Thanks for the cache Chewinprickles

TFTC. This unfound cache has been staring at us since we returned to Milawa for a housesit. All the other caches along this road are smilies. About time to convert the green to yellow.

Heading south & homeward after a couple of fun days in N E Vic with our caching companions Suscoe. It was a change to slide off the Hume and use the quieter parallel road. It was fascinating to learn about the experiment, it made us wonder how many local termites there must be.
Thanks to Chewinprickles for placing caches in such interesting locations.

With the rest of the family in Sydney and a busy few weeks coming up at work I decided last week to have a day off to go caching. Looked at the map and initially thought about Shepparton but then saw an intriguing collection at Mount Major so that became my target. Picked what would be a sunny day (was raining when I left Albury but was fine most of the day - though very windy). In the end a successful day with 26 caches found and one DNF. Turned out to be a Team BGF day.
A very interesting site - didn’t notice it last time I passed this way. Always like an interesting but of history. Cache was a quick find. I call the photo peas and poles.

An easy cache but some interesting information about the poles Thanks Chewinprickles
On my way to Melb for work training tomorrow. With plenty of time up my sleeve I decided to cherry pick some caches along the way being a beautiful Spring day.
A nice view of the nearby farmland from here. Tftc !

A really interesting location and we found it fascinating to know about the experiment.
It’s obvious that the termites are still active.
We counted over 60 poles still standing with many still rotting and falling down on the ground. Most look like they have had most impact at ground level.
Wonder if there was a termite invasion to local buildings around here.
They obviously didn’t exterminate the termites after the experiment was completed.
Any rate, cache was quickly found and we had our lunch nearby while we were stopped.
TFTC and the interesting information.
We noted the deadly weed spread of bridal creeper. Won’t take long and that pest will take over from the termites and fungal rot!

An event in Glenrowan[?] Close enough to make a run to attend and still be home in time to have K9team come over tonight[^] to sleep, after she has spent time with her friends in Shepparton
After the event, a few of us (hembee, myself, catnap777, dalerious, Cybergran V and skullracing) all ended up over the road in the pub where we had a wonderful meal[:X][^][:X][^] and great coversations
hembee, Rex and I headed out afterwards to find a cache[^] and then we both headed to our respective homes
On our way home, Rex and I found 2 more caches, taking our day's tally to 3 cache finds and 1 event attended![^]
6.30pm and pitch black but there was a cache to find and so the last stop was made for the day![^]
I was a tad concerned with the cut down tree near GZ[?][xx(][?] however it did not impact upon GZ[^]
Those poles are interesting! Upright, fallen, chewed away, rotted away and the odd few standing solid!
Thansk for showing me this![^][^]

A very interesting cache. We would not have noticed the short pole’s and their significance without this listing. Container found in good condition.
Thanks Chewinprickles for the placement.

#5001 Well having travelled this road a million times over many years we had noticed the poles but never realised their purpose. Now that gap in our knowledge has been filled !. Today we collected this cache on our regular journey between home and Benalla (We always take the old highway over the busy freeway), and we also checked on our nearby TB hotel whilst in the area.
Love learning about history such as this so thank you Chewnprickles for highlighting this feature and TFTC.

We have been invited to dinner at friends in Glenrowan this evening, so thought we would fill in time beforehand by collecting a cache or two. We remember these testing poles from when we were kids and driving south on the Old Hume Hwy from Wangaratta. SL at 5.07pm Took : TB Left: gumnut pathtag #8851 TFTC Chewinprickles - we even took a photo of those poles apart.
Came out here on what felt like the shortest day of the year. Was dark at 5.30pm as I signed the log. Out here for an interesting cache and to get another one on the 15th…really fir a BettyBoo challenge.
Thanks for the interesting info and the cache.
Took and left a TB.

So the cache was placed in 1938 and is finally being listed? About time too!
Luckily the cache container was made of plastic so the termites have not attacked it.
Not sure about the paint work though.
Thanks, Robmc.

#18776. First find for the day with Robmc on the way to Mansfield. Surprised to see we were 3TF here. The paintwork on the container peeled off in sheets today - not lasting as well as all these poles. Seemed strange to see huge concrete power posts used nearby. Thanks for the cache. Dropped in a large TB here to continue its travels.
{FTF} @4:56am.
I had a cache published last night, and wasn’t aware of this new cache (really have to fix my notifications) until Locus Cache pointed it out to me when she was debating which FTF to chase. Anyway she did the honours and nabbed my cache last night, so on my way to work early I checked to see if this FTF was still up for grabs, and it was.
So I drove past work and continued another 70kms to GZ. Once at GZ I put the trusty torch on the phone on, and soon found the prize, and blank log sheet. I quickly did the formalities and signed the log, I was worried that the random hitchhiker (not what I was expecting to see at 4:55am) I past less then 2kms back towards Winton may have caught up to me, but all good, he wasn’t even close haha
Happy to have nabbed a FTF…off to work I go, nearly an hour and a half late…but I’m the boss, and getting this FTF was totally worth it. TFTC Chewinprickles

Not in the area at the moment but a very interesting set of cache notes that I can relate to as I have had problems with termites in the past.
