Another sidetracked cache found and logged. We are slowly making our way through these, enjoying them immensely. Thanks for the cache Omegaman1971
Not sure why I failed at thus one last time it was exactly where I must have searched 10 times, this time first look and it was mine.Find number 9001 on 24 August 2024. Traditional CacheThanks For The Cache
Found fairly quickly once at GZ. Having lived in Boronia for 10 years a while ago, I was very familiar with the level crossing before it was sent underground. I caught the train at the station everyday for work, that was before it was updated. Also I believe the people killed in the accident had been visiting the church I used to attend so a very poignant story. TFTC
#148Wow this is an amazing cache well executed I knew exactly where it was just didn't know how to get to itFavourite point if I can! TFTC
After a VERY early brekkie event & CITO, I took the opportunity to head up this way to collect some targeted caches and any others that caught my eye. This one was elusive at first, but looking from a different angle I was able to spot it and reach in (with gloved hand of course)! Thanks for placing this SideTracked - Boronia edition. Sad and tragic happenings, but I like to think the unfortunate victims are commemorated by us learning of their fate and paying our respects.Cache on ??
Today's task was to find caches in the Knox LGA for a challenge cache...so on this chilly day I hit the road picking up solved puzzle caches and random Trads because the planned plan did not go to plan. This was one of the caches collected today. And yet we still have crossings with no boom gates
Having to go to Bayswater today to pick up some car parts we had a bit of a chance to do some caches in an area we don't often get to.We are really enjoying this side tracked series of caches andlearn on the cache page about the history of the railway. the information We had no idea of this tragedy auntil reading the cache page, it must have been heart breaking for all concerned. We drove passed gz and guessed where the cache might be but with parking at a premium lucky there were two of us which meant one could get out while the other one did laps.Happily the cache was located right where we suspected it would be and after adding our name to the log we returned everything as it was. Thanks once more for the cache and the history.
My seventh find today on a route designed to tick off some more metro LGAs. TNLN. TFTC
Neat little hide. Quick and easy. Not your typical magnet hide either! We were looking I'm the wrong spot a couple of steps away bc I assumed I knew where it was. Tftc
What a glorious day it promised to be... maybe a touch too warm for an ideal caching day but far to good to stay inside. With many caches calling, I decided to venture over to the *City of Knox*... I only had 12 more caches to find to qualify for ** 100 Finds in the Knox LGA Challenge **... and today was going to be the day! While in many respects, these *SideTracked* caches really should be done by train , I was doing these by car... and in the middle of a weekday I needed to park some distance away as the commuter car park was full. The cache was well hidden... even if the cacher isn't!Thanks **Omegaman1971** for putting this cache out and adding to the *SideTracked* series here in Australia.
13:30Out and about with our caching buddies Suscoe, we were in high spirits after completing the Juzz Magic series. It was great to add another "Side Tracked" series cache to our collection. Thanks to Omegaman1971 for hiding caches in interesting locations. 36103
Suscoe headed up to the Kilsyth area today with our very good friends Phetlern. After visiting the JuzzMagic series we decided to look for a few more caches as we left the Kilsyth area. Thanks to Omegaman1971 for this hide.Nice to stop by here on our trip today and add another SideTracked Cache to our growing collection.
Had a few hours to spare between events in the area. So thought I'd go and do a few around here. This one was quite a quick one, thanks.
Chook was in the area to attend a nearby library event. After parking nearby, this was a very quick find in between muggles and cars. Had no idea of its tragic history though, so thank you for this story on the cache page. TFTC omegaman1971
After attending an event at the Boronia Library I wandered over here to search for this cache. As I was approaching GZ a police car drove up the street so I decided to abort my search until they were out of sight and then I made a quick find.
Luckily the Victorian Government is replacing a lot of busy road/railway crossings so these tragic accidents will be a thing of the past.
Thank you omegaman1971 for this cache, another in the SideTracked series.

Myself, fisherfamfive and AdamW were out to grab some recently solved puzzles and unfound trads in the area today. Adam had found this one before us two arrived, and once we got there it didn't take us long either. Nice spot in such a busy area, tftc omegaman
Out today with AdamWickenton and CammJT for an adventure around Boronia and the Blind Creek Trail to collect some newer caches in the area. Adam had made the find before Jackson and I as he had arrived a little bit before us, but once there and all set up, we had the find in hand after a short search. Tftc omegaman1971
Found this after watching footy. It wasn't that hard for me. The navigation was on point, cool cache btw. TFTC
Found it, what a nice find and something the kids would never had thought to look in.
Today has turned out to be a bit of a sidetracked excursion. Two more ticked off today. My tally now stands at 15. Thank you omegaman1971 for placing and maintaining SideTracked - Boronia ( Tragic history ) for us to find today.
A bajillion years ago I went to Boronia High (which closed in the 1990s) so I used to walk past the station every day on my way home from school in the 80s. Ah, the memories I have of "Bronya"!
Thank you for this cache! That’s the smallest and most well camouflaged one yet!
Thanks omegaman1971. I found this attractive cache second time around. Giddy up
For this cache i had to think outside of the box. So many places it couldof been and only after five thanks minutes i logged that log book. TFTC
After a successful morning of geocaching it was time to refuel. Banh mi in hand I wandered across to GZ.
Tragic history surrounding the station. Pretty quiet today, in between passers by the cache was located and signed.

The train tragedy is awful and good to remember how fortunate we are...
This was a Nice quick find after visiting the nearby historic Millers homestead.
The homestead has a cute little library, surprisingly modern quilt artwork expo and even a piano!
Thanks omegaman1971 for the quick after work find

We found this cache today on our Late Saturday Afternoon Local Wander. Luckily once again to get a quick pick up here. Our first ever cache within 200m of this spot. Thanks from D & H B-A
After a successful day last holidays on the Pakenham sidetracked series, we took this curriculum day opportunity to find caches on the Belgrave line. We hopped on at Ferntree Gully and hopefully will make it back before dark to get that sidetracked cache.
We then moved on to Boronia. This one is had us stumped for a while, but we refused to give up. We had no idea about the tragic history.

My partner and I decided to grab this cache on our way past in the late evening (although it probably wasn't that late, it just felt it because it was super dark!). We were rugging up anticipating a bit of a search and my partner was trying to avoid looking suspicious with his hoody up and scarf around his face.
We hopped out of the car and I immediately put my hands on the cache in the first spot I looked at. Turns out all that rugging up wasn't necessary! We again tried to avoid looking suspicious as we handed each other pens, cache, log book etc. in an empty car park at the station with the police station nearby haha! It wouldn't have been the first time we were stopped by police if they asked us what was going on, but thankfully this evening we avoided that awkwardness!
Thanks for a nice quick cache on this freezing winter night

We used to visit friends who lived in Boronia almost next to the railway line when I was a child in the late fifties and sixties. Things have changed so much and the carpark certainly wasn’t this big! I went straight to what I thought the most likely hiding spot. At first I couldn’t find it. I spent far too much time looking further afield. Cloudy, even light rain upset the behaviour and reliability of the electronic finding device. Eventually I went back to where I started, looked from a different angle….and there it was. Not quite what I was expecting, but that adds to the fun.
Nice, easy find and fun little history lesson. All in good condition. TFTC
Found safe and sound while clocking up some learner driver hours. Should fill our date found grid in no time.
Never knew about the tragic bus crash but I do remember boom gates here in Dorset rd.

Out on the bike this morning and noticed this relatively new cache was here so I came back this way to collect it TFTC
Today was another wet day, but we continued with the hunt for caches in the sidetracked series with ilook4geo. We were happy with the success rate, although there were a couple of DNF's. Signed all the logs we found and replaced each one in its proper place. Thanks for placing this cache go to omegaman1971.
Rain is a pain sometimes, especially when we wanted to go searching for particular caches with goingplaces2. This one however was a successful find and both names or initials were noted on the log. Such a sad incident on record. TFTC.
Started looking in the wrong spot initially, then finally went where the GPS told me to go. I came up on the right angle, got down low and managed to spot it! I was thankful I didn’t have to stick my hand in and feel around in any strange places! Signed the log and replaced exactly as found. Thanks for the awesome cache - first one of those types I’ve found! Very cool.
What a sad story. I was expecting to have a bit of trouble finding this cache, having read previous logs, but I put my hands straight on this one.
GPS looks straightforward but I couldn't find it. The profusion of bushes doesn't leave any semi-obvious hiding places.
A nice quick drive by find. Interesting info about station. Enjoying the sidetracked caches. TFTC
After breaky I stopped by for this cache. Love the old pics.
Thanks to omegaman1971 for the fun and the adventure.

After KdosVerH123 and I searched for ages for this one, I finally placed my hand on it in a hiding spot that we’d both previously checked very many times.
Just had to persevere.
Also if you go searching for this one, look out for needles.
Happy to report that the cache is in good condition and the log nice and dry.

Wasn't sure if I was in the right spot. Sticking my hand in and around vine and crash barrier and the rubbish.

Ducked out for three quick caches today to satisfy a challenge I'm thinking of, guess they'll have to be locals...
everywhere, go away and leave me muggle free
Found quickly whilst looking like I was part of the furniture

Thanks to CO and another friendly player who was so helpful I finally found it after a few too many attempts!
Came out on this dreary morning as I expected the GZ to be muggle free and I also brought puggo along for support. tftc!

Logging my first defeat, with someone parking 3/4 of the way into GZ and tons of people around. I will definitely be back when it’s less busy
Out for a short walk after a big dinner out. We all ate too much so it did us some good. My head told me where to look, my body stopped me until I was sure. Got it in the end.
This was one of those caches that took a few attempts, for no good reason. Each time I checked the spot where I ultimately found it, but obviously I hadn't quite checked properly. I widened the search, checked really unlikely spots, returned to the more obvious, gave up. Finally, with a little extra determination or tenacity or something I found it and was not quite sure how I missed it the other times. Oh well, it's a smiley face now. TFTC and thanks for the story!
Haven’t been out geocaching as much as I’d like lately but it’s nice to get out today to get a couple with my Geo dog sizzle. Thanks for placing is a great location awesome
A quick park and grab was easy here with not a soul to be seen on a hot late Saturday afternoon.

Continuing a fun day with CybergranV and n0w0rries...
To cap off the day, we got a bit SideTracked.
Our timing was impeccable... a car pulled in to the parking area before us and propped where we wanted to be... just as that evening's connecting bus arrived opposite. The car drove off after disgorging a passenger... And the bus driver decided that he was a good place to kill time before the train arrived.
But he was only interested in whatever was happening on his phone, ignoring me as I got out, went around him and fished out the cache from the obvious spot.
Thanks, omegaman1971, for the cache and history lesson.

>In 1998, a new below ground station was built, as part of a grade separation project to remove the nearby Boronia Road level crossing. On 5 November of that year, the rebuilt station opened.
I remember the old crossing here. It was shocking, to say the least.
It will be interesting to follow the next round of upgrades.
A day out today, celebrating and geocaching with Cybergran V and nirgalagrin.
After successfully finding a plethora of Mister Doctor caches, we now move onto the SideTracked series. (If only this bus driver would move on first!)
Check off #51 in the series for me.
The SideTracked mission continues... [^]
Thank you for adding to the series omegaman1971.

Thanks Omegaman1971 for adding to the SidTracked series.
I only heard about them for the first time last year whilst attending a SidTracked event at Bunyip.
Since then I’ve noticed these caches popping up quite regularly.
Today n0w0rries and nirgalagrin have offered to make my birthday a happy occasion and transport me to a few of this type of cache.

We came for Models and Collectables.
I stayed for caches (well, one at least).
There's a plastic capsule stuck in "a likely spot" - be warned, that is not the cache.
Thanks heaps for the (real) cache, Omegaman1971!

A lot of places I’d logically think it could be but didn’t find. Lots of rubbish around too.
An early start today to find a few caches in the area.
Plenty of parking close by, and a quiet morning made for a straightforward find.
I'd never heard the story of the tragic event that took place here, but I well remember when the railway was put under the nearby busy intersection, removing a major traffic bottleneck, and the chance of another terrible collision.
Cache in good condition.
