1435 GAFF2 #14 of dipherent Diphiculty and Terrain rating combinations of caches phound so far today. Ended up with 28 (I think) phrom 34 caches. Certainly earned the Terrain rating here as it had been raining and the obstacle was pretty hard to overcome.

We went adventure bound with this phind today as my my youngest geo son and I headed out this side of town and grabbed a few caches. Made our way towards the gz but had to cross somewhat of a moat to get to the last 50m. I managed to make short work climbing over it, but he being much shorter and younger than I enjoyed his exploring and clambering down and then back up again before we were soon at the gz. This one could be a bit trickier during the wetter times of the year but today was no problems, thanks Aussie Phantom for the cache it was good fun. TNLN.
Found it on a morning caching run before work. Enjoyed the small stroll along to the cache. Tripped over as I was crossing the obstruction between the track and the cache. Came a cropper on some rocks at the bottum but I picked my self and looked at the GPSr, 56 meters away. Hmm, doesn't look too difficult. Thats when the batteries on my GPSr died. Ok, that makes it a bit more difficult!
Walked approximatetly 50 meters in the direction the GPSr pointed me with its last puff of battery power and then consulted the hint. Well that could mean quite a few locations so I one by one started a quick search of likely hiding spots until I spotted the cache from about twenty meters away. I think a muggle may have found it as they have signed the log. Obviously didn't get the idea that it was supposed to be put back out of view, but thankfully cache is fine!
Found a little walking trail that meant I didn't have to re-cross the obstruction (for which my bloodied hands were thankful) I followed it until it met another path where there was a sign saying that I was in a re-vegetation area and that I should not have entered.....ooops!
Jumped back in the car, cleaned up the blood and headed off to another cache before I had to go to work.

09/09/2012 17:18 Don't you just hate it when you get beaten to an FTF. I do and I have attached the FTF page to show that Sparkky got here a little before me. This is one of those I require for the Jasmer challenge and its a very nice 2002 cache that is DAMNED hard to get to, That phlaming obstacle is so dang slippery and mossy that I had real trouble getting up the other side. Parking closest to the cache is not recommended to for this one due to the trouble you have. Despite this I got to the corner or bend in the water course and found a small track down between the tree ferns. I also saw there was part of stump laying there which I hoped would let me get back up out later. Having gotten, I now needed to get out so put on my gloves and removed the stopper from my walking to stick to use it as a dagger into the soft mud.
I got partly up the other side and found that both shoes were slipping and this ended up putting my jacket into the damp mud. I managed to inch myself over to some sturdier looking bushes and finally got out. A quick walk to an obvious GZ had the cache soon in hand and I saw the original logbook there signed by Sparkky and then maccamob. I am on a quest to collect all the old caches I can around Melbourne and then beyond. The cache was big enough for more swag but I forgot to drop the TB's I have with me. TFTC Aussie Phantom TNLN SL

found @ 15:05 with dad (ross47) and Wal-len
Had a great walk in.
After a talk with a passing by council worker, it was a quick find.
Dad walked straight past it, as he was following his gps.
I was behind Dad and happened to see a half uncamo'd container that he had just walked past.
Wal-len was somewhere behind me.

A quick find @ 15:05 in the company of emeraldflame and wal-len after a pleasant stroll in from Priestley Crescent.
This area is now marked as a revegetation area, although we were told by the council staff that it's primarily aimed at the mountain bikes that have been doing more than their fair share of damage through here.
Thanks to Aussie Phantom for bringing us here and for the cache. TNLN

Found this one today in the company of Ross47 and Emerald Flame. After a quick discussion over a cup of coffee it was decided to try for this one today. Local knowledge had us in the right area fairly quickly, but once on the track deciding which was the right way had us a bit undecided. A nice walk into GZ discussing the features of the area and the "obstacle" until we noticed a Council ute pulling up opposite us on the main track. A quick discussion with the driver had us back on our way to complete the 50m or so required to reach the cache.
Emerald Flame spotted the cache, while Ross47 was consulting his GPSr and I was picking my way up the hill.
Nice walk in a lovely area, thanks Aussie Phantom.

a good walk from the trail head. flat but not boring. Several cows entertained us. we approached from the wrong side of the aqueduct and not wanting to do a "bear grylls" crossing, doubled back to the other side.
Nice walk and good cache
reminding us all that quality is better than quantity.

Found today with Irontoad. Great hide and great walk after raiding some blackberries from nearby streets. We guessed wrongly which side of the obstacle this would be on initially and I chickened out of going the direct route across so we backtracked and took the path which got us to within 20 metres of the hide (for those so inclined). Nice walk but not too challenging. Hide proved a bit more difficult and Irontoad nearly stepped on the cache in his eagerness to get to where he thought he would find the cache! I found it and we had a good laugh about it. Left a geocoin to continue its journey and took nothing but signed log. The cache didn't have water in it but it was a bit damp - it probably could do with a good drying out though most of the swaps were okay.
Thanks for the cache Aussie Phantom - its amazing to do a cache that has lasted so long. I note that the cache was placed in 2002. Thanks a lot

We were staying at Monbulk for FitzelFleas late housewarming BBQ which quickly became a weekend long social party/maintenance/bbq/paddock bush bash car testing/caching weekend.. I had decided to take a day off from work (being such a wonderful day) and try for 50 finds in a day. Ultimately it was not to be for many reasons, including a few DNF's, the need to pick the kids up from school, and some difficult caches. In any event a good day was had by jsmyong55 and myself and this was one cache we were able to find. We liked the walk and the crossing (very tricky) but this one did slow us down, and the hide as found after a moderate search. Thanks AP.
Trailrunning had asked me a couple of days before if I was free on Friday for a run. I had classes till early afternoon but once he told me its his birthday and he will be aiming for a 50 cache run, I knew I had to have a go at that, eventhough if it meant skipping class.
Aiming for a 50 cache run with only 7.5 hours was a little too ambitious. Of course we did not manage 50 but I got to about 35 which was pretty good. We had started off well in the start, but a couple of long trail runs, heavy bushwhacking and off-trail hiking really threw us off. It was a lot better slowing things down and enjoying the adventure than racing for time.
We passed the obstacle without much difficulty. I was in skinny jeans and definitely not in the right attire to be caching in the woods but I made it through easily. Did not fall on my butt or anything. Having long legs does help. But it was nice to have a bit of a challenge crossing the obstacle though. TFTC

Found on another legendary night caching run with my best mate Marty (Quasar3671). This was a fantastic night walk. We took the hard way through the drain, which was a bit of a scramble, but fun. Very much enjoyed doing this cache at night. TFTC.
Out on a night caching run with my mate Marshy (Blacklegend), which took us up into the Dandenong Ranges for the night. A very early cache we had to get while caching in the area. We parked at the end of Selet St and followed the track to a point before we had to head off and up into the bush.
The big concrete drain proved a challenge to traverse but we managed to scramble our way up in the end. It turns out we may have come the harder way, but the walk through the forest at night was fantastic. TFTC.

Nice to find a dry clean cache but what a effort for me to get here down into the obstacle but how to get out again walk along until you find a tree to climb to get out then on the otherside follow the track so much easier if I just went round instead of through and of course pass a closer parking area but was a great walk anyway tftc left a knife and fork set but took nothing

Was initially on the wrong side of the aquaduct for this one. I had a look to see if there was anyware I could cross to the other side, but too steep and dangerous. I then decided to keep walking along and hopefully get to a crossing point to get to the other side. As luck would have it, just 350 - 400 Metres from GZ there was a track that went over the Aquaduct. Passed a bees nest on this side and could smell the honey [^] Was near to GZ, and my GPSr said 9 or 10 metres to the cache, I looked down and to my surprise, I was standing above the cache. What a beautiful place for a walk. Not many people about today, so very peaceful.
No Sign of the listed trackable in this cache.

I loved the choice of location here, I only regret not having my bike and an empty afternoon ahead of me to explore the trail. I had fun trying to get over the aquaduct (and back again) but the real challenge was finding the cache. I looked in all the 'obvious' places before giving up and just randomly moving things and what do you know, there was the cache!
Many thanks,

#346 Found at 4.15pm. A great trail through this area and we were very impressed with the obvious drawcard of the location. Having said that, due to some steep terrain GeoPrincess said "NO WAY" so the Queen had to begrudgingly stay and wait for Dad to locate GZ. The Garmin was leading him on a drunken bee dance and then he spotted the likely location - further scouring of the area he eventually came up with the well concealed cache (he said that is was an obvious place when you look back).

Almost too well hidden by previous visitors. Was in the most obvious spot, went their first but didn't see, after 20 minutes where just about to leave, checked a nearby hollow and noticed it back at the start point. Bumped into a very attractive lady at both ends of the track in, explained what I was doing, so she wasn't freaked out and she had apparently bumped into people doing it before.
Found this one with Parklanda after crossing the "obstacle". We found the easy way on the return journey. TFTC, TNLN.

5th find for the day found with Elaine and Toby (the dog) a nice walk and a very interesting location took some pics at gz thanks for the hide no swaps made.
What a great track, we had no idea this was there ! We decided to avoid the obstacle, given that we had two geobrats & a geohound with us. Although geowife might have been a bit reluctant to try the obstacle either...
Saw a couple of mountain bikers, but that was it, very quiet. As for the cache, our GPSr was playing up a bit, giving us wildly different readings, so it took us probably 30-40 minutes to find the cache once we were in the general area.

Only 2nd career find for me. Got to area OK (GPS signal a little scattered) but didn't look in most obvious place first !!! (read the clues properly!!) Didn't take long though. Did not know that this park was in the area. Had a chat to a muggle and her three dogs while on the hunt. Lots of bird life in the area. Very nice spot. Being 6’2’’ may have helped with this hunt! Cheers Ric
Had a little bit of fun finding this one. Looked in what I thought would be the most obvious places. Some times things are more exposed than you expect and under our noses yet you still pass them by. Enjoyed the find and the walk. Cheers Ric
Hmmm, wish I had read the cache page properly because only now did I see the last bit about walking around the obstacle. Still we made it over ok and found the cache at 1455 today. All was in place and I agree with 38 degrees south that the Geocoin is not there. It has been logged out by another cacher in October last year.

This has been on my list for nearly 2 years, waiting to find someone to come along. My companion is young, enthusiastic and resourceful, obstacles would have been no problem. But the GPS led us a merry dance under the beautiful tree canopy and we had to concede defeat. At least for this time, because, like General Macarthur so many years ago, we'll be back!!

Managed to find a close enough park and overcame the (dry)obstacle without too much difficulty. Cache took a little longer although in the end it was in a very accessible position - just not one of the obvious ones. T Republic Badge, L Batman Badge. Thanks Phantom.

Got to closest car park ,short enjoyable walk and then the quick Olympic event over the slighly damp obstacle .with large trees playing havic got to next object and searched for awhile before spotting the cache . Great walkway,a few riders despite its little known position ,didnt see any water fowl but enjoyed a good challenging cache ,TNLN ...thanks Aussie Phantom .

Approaching from the eastern end, it was soon obvious what the 'obstacle' was going to be, but for some reason, when I got to the point where I could easily negotiate it I decided not to! It didn't make much difference, the walking was easier on my side and it hadn't been raining recently so I didn't have much trouble when it came time to cross. I did have a small amount of trouble locating the cache itself - looked around for 5 or 10 minutes before realizing it wasn't as well hidden as I was subconsciously expecting!

Last of ten logs on part two of my 'Clean up the Dandenongs' campaign. Of course, I had to negotiate the obstacle, and I had an interesting time executing the task, especially the second part. I'm glad it wasn't raining today. I located the cache in the obvious place at 1545; GAFF1. I took a route back that didn't require a re-negotiation of the obstacle. Thanks to Aussie Fantom for the cache.
With faiding light we arrived at the parking spot and set off in search of the cache. arriving at the obstacle it was decided that Mr.Coffee would attempt the final dash alone while the rest of the clan watched.
After superman feats I arrived at the GZ and after a few mins of searching the cache was found.
Many thanks Aussie Phantom for the cache, the contents were OK but the log book was a bit damp and I didn't have a spare. it is still writable but may need a service call in the future.

This cache has been on our list to do for ages, but for one reason or another we have never been able to attempt it. This time we were in the area and decided to quickly find it before heading home to get ready to go out. We soon found that it was not going to be a quick find due to the obstacle which was wet after yesterdays rain. However we were determined to findthe most direct way, so we saled the obsacle in no time. Getting back was another story! After the famous geo dance, we settled on a spot and found the cache in peaceful surroundings at 5.15pm. Took: Batteries, Left: Golf ball. Thanks Aussie Phantom. ps: cache was quite wet inside.
After finding my 100th cache I figured I still had enough daylight hours to start the next century. Found this one nice an easy once I had made it to the facinity. TNLN Getting back to the car was even more of a challenge.
Managed the obstacle OK. Enjoyed the pleasant walk. Was observed by some cows when finding the cache. TNLN. Thanks Phanton.
Wow, talk about tuphph!! There were a couple ov words I was going to write in the description ov this but decency prohibits so "phrig me" will have to do (iph that's 'pushing the envelope' too much, I'm willing to modiphy it).
This had been in Geko phor 13 months and with AWG 41 nearby, I thought I would phinish it ophph. Trouble is, I didn't have the cache sheet with me and seemed to remember it as being 'easy', even though Alsume and I had read the description during the week.
At 60-80 metres phrom GZ, I thought that it couldn't possible be there. I searched and searched phor an easy approach but none presented so I took a deep breath and did the three terrain bit. Upon nearing GZ, Geko 'spat the dummy' phor the second time in halph an hour and had me walking away phrom the directional arrow but getting closer to GZ!!! Very disconcerting. I looked in a couple ov obvious spots but no cache. With the walk start time approaching, I decided to leave it phor another day. While passing one last obvious place, I looked and voila, the cache was in hand at 11:00 (which made me late phor the walk start ).
Shamrock Bear TB visited, as I had promised him a trip to the Dandenongs, but he did not stay so TNLNSL. Thanks phor a real touphie Aussie Phantom. (I was 10 minutes late phor the walk ).

Enjoyed the walk and had no idea about this spot even though I grew up in the Dandenongs. We "phorded " the obstacle with little trouble, phound the cache and returned along the other side. We had phun.
Took seeds, lepht sunphlower seeds. Thanks Aussie Phantom

This one was the hadest to find, We both didn't know the roads well so we started in the wrong direction all together. After talkign to some locals that lived about 1.5km away from the GZ and explaining what the heck we were doing down there street they still thought we were orienteering. lol similar butt not. After finding where we were on a melways lol my melways is so old it didn't have all the streets.. We found our way. When I arrived down the main street I noticed I had attempted this with team rabbitto only to come back empty handed and confused. Seems like they have been back :-S. After taking the hard/ easy way we found the cache easily. Sat down because of the hard long walk for a while and logged the cache. Took a Stapler kit and left a YOYO. We decided on going thru the obstacle on the way back.. Seems easier than the way we came.. thanks for a hard walk on a humid day, gets me good excercise from M.B and S.M

log book is damp. took matchbox boat and left batteries.
thanks.

Phound by Chookies (only the rooster this time) on the way home phrom a long night shift. The locals saw me driving along the windy path, and were very phriendly. Phrom where I parked the car, I thought it was going to be a short but steep climb, but it was quite easy & I didn't get too Puphed.
Aphter a short walk down a pleasant path, I could see the location of the cache phrom where I was. Then aphter crossing over, the cache was phound very easily, & in my hot little hand. An easy phind, & phacinating structure which I would like to see in phull phlow. Perhaps ornithologists might delight in sights oph water phowl in phull phlight?
Took Nuphing, Left Sumphing (but I don't remember what-Sorry)
Thanks to Aussie Phantom phor a nice walk & easy phind

Had great fun dealing with the obstacle (on the return journey Alex got stuck, and Megan threatened to leave him there, until she realised he had the carkeys). The logbook is a bit damp. Beautiful out here today, great weather for caching. No swaps.
Found at 1620 after taking the easy / longer way there from where we parked...
Another easy find for Nadia (making 4/5 today for her). After the trek we had to GZ we took the 'other' way back and found it reasonably easy as we were able to team up to get to the other side...
Thanks to aussie phantom for taking us to another unknown place for us!!!
Took KFC golf ball.
Left shower cap (new).

Found at 12:45pm. We had originally attempted this one close to dark around a month ago. We attempted it (as it turned out) from an entrance to the walking track that follows the obstacle from a distance much further away than what we could have chosen. Then because a sign named the obstacle, we did not see the entrance to the park that we should have taken and we followed a path that looped around the cache and actually made it within 300m of GZ. All that stopped us was a very, very deep gully. By the time we had looped back to the car, we had run out of light.
Today we took the real path which we had noted from our last visit. 2 of us negotiated the obstacle the hard way and we had the cache in hand soon after. We took the easy way back though.
Thanks Aussie Phantom from D,S & H B-A.
Took a pack of Crown playing cards. Left a new golf ball.

Thanks Aussie Phantom for our second cache. Compared to the first one we did (The Lake) the terrain was certainly not so friendly and the wife stayed on the track. Our house actually backs onto the same "reserve" on the other side of town, but the "obstacle" no longer exists down our way. Very interesting to see what it would have been like.
Had no idea where the easy way around was so tackled the obstacle. My GPS directed me straight past the site and was looking around the wrong area for ages getting pricked by heaps of blackberries. After a while and getting frustrated the GPS directed me back to where I should be and found the cache pretty easy, about 1710hrs. Opened the logbook to find that it had just been replaced the same day! Thanks Geof for drying out the logbook and returning it.
Took a candle and left a Cheetos Cheese and Bacon Balls Shrinkie. My last one I had - pretty rare given chip packets are foil now and wont shrink in the oven....
Thanks again Aussie Phantom,
Michael and Melissa.

Came in phrom the NW and over shot the mark. Thought I would go and see were the next "obstical helper" was but was gettng a long way from gz. Phound what looked like a good flace to cross and did so but lost balance and grabed a blackberry cane - not good[:(!]. The going was I bit tuph and the grass looked greener on the other side of the phence so jumfed it. Gfs was much haffyer to. An easy phind phrom that side. Book was drenced and going moldy.
every thing else seemed ok (water in the book bag only).
Took phrog lephed insulater phound near "Melbourne's phirst"
Thanks Aussie Phantom
PS Returned latter in the day and fitted a temporary log book. The other one is drying at home. It will be back soon.
In the hour or two between visits the ink from my entery went through 4 pages. I think it will live just[b)].

I note that this cache has been found out in the open before. It did look a bit like its hiding place may be the home of something? Some digging and animal poo was around where I think the cache should have been. Maybe something has been digging it out???? Anyway, of course I didn't know where exactly it was supposed to be, so I put it back in the spot most closely matching that in the clue and tried to hide it away from where an animal might be living. If I've done the wrong thing just let me know and I'll do my best to fix it. This cache does need attention though, I'll go more prepared when I'm next in the area but if the hider can do some maintainence on it, all the better. Be a shame to lose this cache, its a great spot
Finding this cache was great fun I slipped and climbed over the obstacle, leaving Narny waiting for me at the track in case I couldn't make it back by myself and walked straight up to the cache. Was easy to find as it was lying on the ground upside-down out in the open. The log was very very wet, too wet to write on so I wrote on a bit of paper I had and put it in the log book. Unfortunately didn't enough sunlight left to dry out the logbook and nothing with us that could do it any good so I just had to put it back how it was. The logbook needs a major dry out or replacing urgently. While I was sitting down writing in the log we heard this creaking and Narny watched as a huge tree fell to its doom on the other side of the track. We both looked nervously at the trees around us and I hurried along with my swaps.. Swapped out an emergency poncho (certainly wasn't keeping the cache dry) and in a frog (shouldn't mind if it gets a little wet).
I've been meaning to look for this cache for a while. Finally got the opportunity and took it. Took a long route into it but finally got there after sliding down and scurrying up the obvious barrier (found the crossing point on the way back to the car). Looks like someone found it by accident as a log said "found it, thanks" (nothing else) and the cache was quite exposed. I left it more covered. Thanks for helping me discover another part of this area that I used to live so close to, but never actually visited. Good one Aussie Phantom.
Joe and Pete phound this cach after climbing across the obstacle a little too early. We made no exchange. After getting back across at the closest point, we were glad to have crossed where we did.
Thanks Aussie Phantom
