Back out on the Bullen Range to do more of the UFO series. Teamed up with the AAA team today to collect caches in the lower part of the Range. Hard to believe that it has been about a year since we were last out this way.We had such a glorious Autumn day and managed to pick up all the caches we went for. Thanks to all caches owners for placement.
Apologies for the generic logs. After a couple of false starts and deferments a date was finally selected for another trip up the Bullen Range to collect some more in this area. Unfortunately our group had dwindled, but minniek, fitzy_1965, albida33, Nibletricecakes, Gliss! MtbikerOZ and isopeda were available to join in the fun. Mother nature gave us great weather for a walk. After meeting in the carpark it was time for the group to head up a familiar track to slowly tick off our list of UFO's and some of the new challenges. There were a couple of tree climbs which took a bit of thinking to get the right approach and find natures tools to make a climbing platform. The walk was tough, or perhaps it wasn't and FFLL no 2 was just out of condition. But the loop took us up and down along fire trails, and some bush bashing across the gullies. But all in all a successful day and great fun with a good bunch of people. All the logs were signed AAA. Thanks to all the CO's for the adventure and the fun. Looking forward to the next adventure.
Today I joined Nibletricecakes, Gliss!, MinnieK, Fitzy_1965, FurfacesLL, albida33, and mtbikeroz for a hike to collect a few more of the UFO series caches. We signed as A or A cubed or AAA for "April Alien Adventure".The weather was favourable, my knee was good enough for up and downs and a few tree climbs, and the company was, of course, excellent. The first half of the hike was on the fire trail and easy going, the second half - the way back in a loop - had some tricky gullies and tee tree to navigate through. This was easier than anticipated.TFTC
The team today was Nibletricecakes, Gliss!, MinnieK, Fitzy_1965, FurfacesLL, albida33, Isopedia & myself (mtbikeroz) We signed as A cubed or A3 or A3 group or AAA. April Alien Adventure. We left the tracking station car park and headed up a fairly easy spur to the top (ridge line) track and scouted around the SW portion of the Bullen range collecting the SW UFO caches and a few others in our big loop. Generally easy going except a few steep bushy gullies for the last few caches. A weather perfect day for caching and climbing, thanks to DSD for the caches.Coming down from the Virtual cache (Trig point also), WOW, what a difference in merely 1 month. The fire trail we came down was cleared of all scrub, bushes, grass etc yet only a month ago when I came down this very track on my Mountain Bike, the centre strip and the edges had so much 2m high vegetation growing that we could only ride down the vehicle tyre tracks zone but even then we were being smashed by vegetation as we cruised down the hill. Now, ALL GONE: obviously cleared TOTALLY to make way for the fire trucks in the very recent burnoff. But anyways, a great day and thanks for the wonderful fun day with the 8 cachers.
It seems it has been 12 months since we were last out this way collecting UFOs. In the mean time our crew has had broken bones, weddings, and many a trip away. Great to finally be back out in the ranges together. Caching today with FurfacesLL, albida33, Fitzy_1965, Minniek, Isopeda, mtbikerOZand GLISS! Signing today as A cubed (or AAA) for April Alien Adventure. Cheers to the great weather, great company and great series of caches. Thanks for the cache.
34,711. Found with minniek and the rest of Team A Cubed for April Alien Adventure (albida33, isopeda, Nibletricecakes, GLISS!, FurfacesLL and mtbikeroz). The trip for this section of the (mainly) UFO caches had been delayed a few times, and thus a few members left our team, but we had finally agreed on a convenient date, and eight hardy Cachers assembles for our April Alien Adventure (it always sounds cooler when you have a team name . Parking at the Tracking Station, we headed up the side of the Range where we descended last time in order to continue along from the last adventure up here. This proved a very sensible route as we were soon up on the fire trail and starting to seek out the caches. There were no problems with the caches unless otherwise stated. Once the UFO caches were found, it was time for the downwards slog for the Challenges, Multis and Trads (the UP part of this was a bit of a surprise !). Once at GZ with eight pairs of eyes it was soon spotted. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, then we continued down through the bush to the next one. Thanks DSD !!
UFO Westside Southern Section. After several deferments and a loss of large segments of our team to others trips, I was happy to get the chance to head up into the Bullen Ranges today for a bite at some more UFO caches and the new(ish) run of challenges and other caches across the west flank back to the tracking station. The team today was Nibletricecakes, Gliss!, MinnieK, Fitzy_1965, FurfacesLL, MtbikerOZ and myself. We signed as A cubed. The puzzles were all solved before this visit, and even most of the multi work had been done on previous visits, so today it was just the challenge of reaching the caches and finding the containers. There were a few tree climbs, but our collection of monkeys managed all of those as necessary. I was a little confused by the difference between the contour lines on the maps and the HUGE gullies we came across along the way, particularly towards the end of the day. There was some very thick undergrowth in places, but all in all the scrub is in great condition, even the burn offs seem to have been done in a way that leaves lots of trees intact. I thank my fellow travelers and am looking forward to the next effort in the hills behind Canberra. With plenty of eyes looking, we found this without as much of a problems as I expected. Thanks for the cache DARKSIDEDAN46327.16 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2020 NZ Mega A#476**Albida**

Found during the Mega event in Canberra over the Easter long weekend. Our team comprised courtneyrose_, Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Featherwaite, Freddo, gridge98 and Team Waldron, signing the logs as ABP to save time, and space in the logbooks, or with our individual caching names. Enjoyed a great weekend away finding a rewarding range of cache types, d/t combinations, cache hides and retrievals. Thanks for the cache DARKSIDEDAN!
Found this during a fantastic weekend away at the Canberra Mega, with gridge98, Freddo, Team Waldron, e.gregory1, Davidwazza and Featherwaite. The log books were either signed with the name ABP or our individual caching names. Was an excellent Mega, grateful to be part of it!

Found while attending the Mega event in Canberra over Easter. The trip bit.Easter geocaching festival of twenty twenty four. This time it is the turn of Oz Mega GeoBash MEGA event in the nation's capital. It is time for a road trip across country to Canberra in the Sporty Pajero Sports. Freddo and Gridge98 traveling from Adelaide via a strange inland route that takes in scenic rural locations, dusty roads, punctured tyres, overheating batteries, various tools of the trade, special campgrounds, and lots scope for many many geocaching finds. Along the way we saw running emus, jumping kangaroos, wandering deer, dead foxes, herds of wooly sheep and stray steers.Arriving in Canberra we met our colleagues e.gregory1, featherwaite, team waldron, courtney rose, davidwazza, signing as ABP, plus a huge group of other like minded excited mega geocachers attending event after event, and more events.Day one. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. Sneaky tiny cache in the bush! Oh no!3.5/3.5 Micro Traditional Cache Thank you for the cache DARKSIDEDAN.31 March 2024 11:39am
I think the dark side of DSD came out when hiding this cache lol...I wasn't looking forward to the search but suprisingly my GC senses haven't fully switched off ...(picture from deep space station tour the following week)
DSD, can you please stop placing caches like this in places like this as Im not liking this! GG1 finds them while I look like an amateur.
As we got close to GZ and l saw the name of this one, my stomach dropped. I generally suck at this type of hide. Thank goodness for the excellent coords! Second spot l tried while M65 was metres away. Happy to say we were soon onto the next one
After approaching this one from the long way. I dropped my bag and started the search. 5 mins later cache in hand. Tricky little fella. Thanks DSD for the extended walk today.
Bit of a bush bash to reach this one, across some challenging and uneven terrain. Had to continually tell myself to move slowly and carefully, and to stop whenever I wanted to check my phone.
Tricky GZ, but the cache eventually revealed itself after a few circles of the area.
TFTC!

This one was a quick find at GZ. Yes quick indeed in thebfirst spot checked. Had a short break here getting out the chocolate.
A great hike with the Bullen Range 7 (signing as BR7) which consisted of Toy Hunter, baristayan, buckoraider, contesta, pantspeople, sebass19 and me. A lot of bush bashing and along the Fire trail in the Bullen Range NR on the south east side and west of the Murrumbidgee starting from the Deep Space Station.
Up and down along and getting glimpses of the Hills in the background. Diving into the bush down steep bit in the last third to get to the harder once. We made it a great loop today that contesta had planed for us today. What a great comeback of the UFOs. About 14km in about 7h and 30(+) caches later we returned to the deep space station carpark. No DNFs and the caches were in good shape. This was a very enjoyable hike, the weather was not hot, rather a very comfortable 18 degrees max today with glorious sunshine. A great real exercise and adventure like only caching can give you. Thank you for the very enjoyable company today!
And thank you DARKSIDEDAN for putting the great cache series out and maintaining it. What an effort indeed!

Logged today as part of the BR7 crew, which also included Baristayan, Contesta, ToyHunters, Sebass19, Flintstones and Pantspeople.
Absolutely glorious all day and hardly a breath of wind. Came in from the western side, and headed south along the fire trail up top, ducking in and out where necessary to find as many caches as possible.
Baristayan found this one in the blink of an eye! We’d heard stories of previous cachers spending lots of time here but that wasn’t the case for this group…thanks!

Signed with the BR7 gang on a pleasant day out and about. Fortunately said gang were on form and thus locating the sneaky tiny cache in the bush (oh no) was not much of an “oh no” and more of an “oh yes!”.
Cheers DSD.

In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
Cheers DSD.

Oh I loooooved this cache
Do you know why?
Because I was out caching with pretty professional cachers today, and the first spot I went to I got it!
So I can now (finally) say what I usually read on other’s logs when I’m struggling with a cache:
“Quick and easy find at GZ”
Signed as BR7
Done with: Contesta, ToyHunters, Flinstones, Pantspeople, Sebass19 and Buckoraider
Also my 400th find

Making the most of the opportunity to duck out for a few hours of caching fun. Seeking out the occasional challenge or two, or trying to mop up as many solves as I can to keep that long list under control. Seems to increase faster than it decreases

Aaargh!
A nano in the bush!!
Again, we were prepared to spend a long time here, and it did take some searching, but we were very happy to find this one along our beautiful wombat Trail as we made our way further up in such a beautiful bushland.
This trail was awesome. No official Trail markings, but the wombats have been very generous in helping us find our way.
Thanks Darksidedan.

A lovely morning to go for a short hike up the Bullen Range to pick up some of the newest caches out this way! We started the hike just before 11:30am and made it back to the car just after 1:30pm. In two hours we managed to tick off the 6 caches on our list!
This was our final cache before we headed back down the ridge line and found a way back to the car! We didn't have a lot of time to look for this cache, as we had another activity to attend, so we hoped that this tiny cache wouldn't be too elusive!
Thankfully it wasn't, and the cache was located in about 5 minutes flat! Phew!
It really isn't that tiny either!
Thanks DSD

Found with Loci612 on a short, sharp, fun but tough hike up the Bullen Ranges. It got easier to walk once we arrived up to the ridgeline. This one was a surprisingly quick find but we believe it may have been left a bit out of the open than it should have. This was the last cache before making our way down to open ground (ie. ground without bushes and trees) but it required a bit of bush bashing and river crossing to get there! TFTC!
Beautiful day after yesterday and worth going for a walk in the Bullen Range. Parked at the tracking station. So many options at gz. I thought this one would be a lot harder without a hint but it was quickly spotted and signed. I inserted it an extra 25mm into its hidey hole as it was a bit too obvious when I spotted it. TFTC.
Cache 10172 on 25 Apr 2023.
What better way is there to mark ANZAC day than by having a hike in the Australian bush with friends! Gives me time to reflect on friendship, support and persistence. Headed out with TikvaNZ, SpecimenX, Search4 and Fox in Jox on a hike in Bullen Range to grab some newer caches that have appeared and enjoy another glorious Autumn day. The first bit of the hike was tough going with lots of up and down into gullies, but the rest of the hike on spurs and ridges was the type of hiking I love out here - open forest, gentle slopes and plenty of bird life. Found all the caches we aimed for, and SpecimenX and Search4 found a few more besides.
We searched around for a bit before SpecimenX managed to find it!
Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for the cache and the fun!

An awesome day to be out caching with friends; Fox in Jox, AngelG27, SpecimenX and Search 4. We parked at the usual spot and headed south east to follow this new string of caches through the bush to the fire trail, then headed up the trail to find a few for Search 4 and SpecimenX, and then followed the trail down and back to the car. About 4 hours round trip. Cache soon found. TFTC.

What a glorious day to go for a hike!
Teamed up with AngelG27 along with the geochaps comprising of Search4, TikvaNZ and Fox in Jox (signed as FASTS). Great fun with this lot! The focus of the day was to nab the recently published caches in Bullen Range and a few others along the way.
As we were nearing GZ with trepidation, we could see multiple hiding spots for a tiny cache. I zeroed in on one spot and there it was-quick find and a lot bigger than I was expecting. I felt like I was back in the lab!
Thanks for the hide, DSD!

With many years serving in the Australian Army, I have come to appreciate a few basic things: friendship, our way of life and enjoying our own back yard. So what better way to celebrate ANZAC Day than a fun hike with friends in the Bullen Range. We signed the log as FASTS: Fox in Jox, AngelG27, Search4, TikvaNZ and SpecimenX.
With this title, I was a little concerned about a long search, but while I was starting to consider my options, SpecimenX had come up with the goods. Nice. TFTC DSD

The guy in the blue shirt in the background picture is nicknamed Sneaky. I did not see him in the Bullen Range while finding this cache. Nor did injuryman, my partner in caching at the time.
After all that walking, you would hate to come away empty-handed here. A thorough, systematic search should do the trick, although it might take a while, especially if caching solo.
I was present during placement. I am logging this now that FTF has been claimed.

Even as late as yesterday evening I had planned not to head back out to the latest release of caches up this spur, but when the HMT was released I figured we may as well have another crack. And this time SC ably led us up the spur the correct way, avoiding the blackberry and scrub I so carefully led us into yesterday.
Once out of the scrub near the grassland & creek it's a lovely walk up through bush typical of the Bullen Range Adventure Playground. Once at GZ a bit of a search but with three pairs of eyes eventually this sneaky hide was revealed. Always great to find a blank log.
Thanks, DSD!
