What a nice area to walk in! Glad we took this way back to the car after finding NZ's oldest geocache! **#4487**
Another milestone. The time-honored cache was an important stop on our tour. And today it could be searched for, found and logged. What's more, it was a beautiful walk in glorious weather that brought us here.So we hiked to the dam and the other traditional caches in this wonderful natural setting. All caches were in great shape. Many thanks to the owners and greetings from the Moorhelmi from Germany
Found this one with TTO1 and TTO2 today. TTO1 and I are touring New Zealand with TTO2 for a couple of weeks and our travels brought us by this cache. So, we just had to stop and find it. I enjoyed hiking the trails out here today. Were really enjoying our visit and have been exploring lots of cool spots. Im sure that we will still have a lot that we didnt get to see on this trip, so I look forward to coming back again some time to see some more of this beautiful country. Thanks for the fun!
EN : We continue this pleasant walk in this immense park which is very calm. Unfortunately we won't see any kiwis but we will meet a woman walking her dog on a leash. All caches will be found easily and logbooks signed. Thank you to all the installers for the work carried out for our greatest pleasure. Greetings from France. Our Travel Bugs pass through this cache but do not come out of our backpack; they continue the adventure with us. Trip to New Zealand decided very quickly , but that didn't stop us from preparing a small file of caches to search, as far as possible. The GC46 is, of course, at the top of this list! Our program should allow us to discover a large part of this country.FR : Nous continuons cette agrable balade dans cet immense parc qui est trs calme. The fence decided to play hide and seek with us. Once it gave up it was a nice quick find. Thanks for inviting!
Found with Gazania Rigens in the company of delightful Eriallo who is chauffeuring and shepherding us towards the almost compulsory GC46 out of the goodness of her Kiwi heart. We gave the cache a much-needed heart transplant in the shape of a new log sheet, so all should be well for the next few months at least. The moss continues to moss it up well too: a true gateway to the Realm of the Briophytes!TFTC
A quick find on the way to GC46. The log was nearly shredded so we added a new one. TFTC!
Like an artificial reef that grows coral.. This grows moss and is rather effective at it.. tftc
#3818 Today is day 4 of my geocaching holiday in New Zealand. Today's goal is to get [Global Geocaching - Wellington](https://coord.info/GC885V5) and [Geocache by Kevin Anderson (Wellington)](https://coord.info/GC46), the oldest active geocache in New Zealand.Found it! Spent good 20min on this D1.5 cache. I was definitely geoblind. ThatDarnBear, thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 4, 2024 @ 16:33:47[GCADZ09] Mossy McMoss Moss was a D1.5/T1.5 Micro Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
Found without much trouble. Much like many others here I came for GC46 and picking up the rest in the area as a bonus. Plenty of muggles around today but thankfully none when I diverted off the path. Thanks!
Out on a circuit around the Sledge Track and Tana Umaga Track, which I've never done before. This was a nice quick find but the log was quite wet and fragle. TFTC.
Walked past first while noticing an old fence on the other side of the track.Love the moss.TFTC
Maybe make it harder to find because I found it within 1 minutes and I can see in the activity that everyone has found it
Here today to find the Holy Grail (GC46) and enjoyed a walk around the tracks in this regional park while here. Very happy to find this one - usually anything with a hint of 'hanging' means I won't see it! Loved the colour of the cache - rather like one of those beautiful iridescent insects you sometimes come across unexpectedly. PS the cache name is perfect! TFTC ThatDarnBear
Missed the landmark on the first passing, but found after a very short retrace alongside two thirds of the team and DeltaMikeZero. Neat, easy cache.
#15,005. Enjoyed the walk in Wainuiomata, Lower Hutt. The GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Found after a short search. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. This one took the longest to find due to its size and lots of muggles on the path, but Geokid spotted it at a good moment and we managed to escape detection by standing super still that concluded our little tour. TFTC
On our ninth day in New Zealand we visit Wellington. This nice cache lay on our way.TFTCHennesAt the end comes the poem of the day.New Zealand By James K. Baxter (for Monte Holcroft)These unshaped islands, on the sawyers bench,Wait for the chisel of the mind,Green canyons to the south, immense and passive,Penetrated rarely, seeded onlyBy the deer-cullers shot, or else in the northTribes of the shark and the octopus,Mangroves, black hair on a boxers hand. The founding fathers with their guns and bibles,Botanist, whaler, added bones and namesTo the land, to us a bridleAs if the id were a horse: the swampy townsLike dreamers that struggle to wake,Longing for the poets truthAnd the lovers pride. Something new and oldExplores its own pain, hearingThe rains choir on curtains of grey mossOr fingers of the Tasman pressingOn breasts of hardening sand, as actorsFind their own solitude in mirrors,As one who has buried his dead,Able at last to give with an open hand.
Day number two here in Wellington was rainy and windy, but that just weather! On the way to GC46.Thanks for the cache./herrFamaxe from Sweden
We are on a trip in New Zealand. A wonderful country with a lot of (old )caches. There are too many caches so we limit ourselves to the (old) gems or where we happen to make a stop. We found and signed this cache in good condition. GPS was Just a little off. LL113, thank you for this cache, regards xizat-NL. Take care, this hobby can develop to an addiction.
4-week family trip through NZ - Find #105!While walking the Gums Loop Track, we came past this cache. My son and I had slight troubles to locate the spot in the spoiler [B)], but my wife (who is _not_ a geocacher) eventually pointed out the obvious .TFTC!
Made a bit of a meal of this as followed the GPS without consulting the full description with its very handy photo.Very easy when you look in the correct place
Last one on the loop. Found with no problems log book full so I have added a new one.Thank you for placing
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Today, steffixx and cuxijoy and me took a nice walk here in the woods and we also looked for this cache. At first we were searching on the wrong side of the path, but then we found the right fence and were able to sign the logbook. A big thank you to ThatDarnBear for leading us here, showing this beautiful place, and of course also for maintaining this cache here on site!Best wishes from the North Sea, Germany, from Cuxine ????????. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ________________oooooooo____________oooooooooooooo_________oooooooooooooooooo________oooooooooooooooooooo_______ooooooooooooooo?ooooo____oooooo_______oooooooo?oooooooooooo___ooo__ooo_______oooooooooooooooooooo__oooo____oo________oooooooooooooooooooooooo_________oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo_oooo_______oooooooooooooooooo________ooooo___ooooooooooooooooooooooo_________oo_ooo____oooooooooooooooooooooooooo_____oooooooo__ooo_oooooo__________oo___oooo_______ooo__ooo_ooo______oooo__ooo_______oooo___ooo__ooo___ooooo___ooo_____ooo___ooo____oo____ooo____oooooo__ooo____ooooooo____________ooo_____ooooo____ooo
Cuxine, Cuxijoy and I were looking for the cache. The GPS showed us the wrong side of the path. But then quickly found thanks to the clue with the 2nd fence.
As a once in a lifetime holiday, this year we are traveling for 7 weeks to Vietnam, Bali, Australia and New Zealand. In Australia we meet Ellen Sch and MrVon sr and Ingsve to visit these last two countries, so here we cache together. We signed the log with N4. Now we have solved many caches so we have a large number of solved coordinates. But we are interested in all types of caches, so if you receive a log, it means that we have visited your cache. We haven't quite decided where we're going, but we'll probably let the weather decide for us. We want warmth because in Norway it is now freezing. We will stay for about 2 weeks in Australia and 2 weeks in New Zealand and we will end the trip with the Mega event in Adeleide on 29 February. So thank you very much to all of you who make it possible for us to travel around finding caches. On March 6, we set course for Norway again. There are extremely nice people everywhere and we are welcomed, we thank you very much. Thanks to our cache friends for good company on the trip.
EnglishWe are six Norwegians on a trip to Australia and New Zealand. We arrived in Melbourne at the beginning of February and are traveling home after the mega event in Adelaide. We travel by car and Geocaching helps us discover many nice places and often helps to decide where we choose the route between our goals which are: Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Dunedeen, and Adelaide. This is one of the caches we found on the trip and we thank you for showing us this place. We who are on tour have the nicknames: MrVonsr, ingsve, EllenSch and TeamEika. Cachehilsen fra Ellen Sch, NorgeMe and MrV sr have come down to Australia and New Zealand, -an old dream has finally come to an end. Team Eika and Ingsve have also traveled with us on this trip.We have been traveling cross-country for a month, and the goal is to end up in Adeleide and mega-event on the leap year. We have especially looked for old caches, to fill jasmer'n, for a couple of pieces, and for the other two of us who have started to think about reviewing more. The vast majority of them showed up at their places, sometimes we had to search a bit, but we were usually lucky in the end. There were also some DNFs.We have mostly logged in with the common nickname N4 (ingsve, Von sr. TeamEika and Ellen Sch), but our own nicknames are also used.A big thank you to all you CO's for laying out and maintaining your caches. Without their work, we would never have been able to make a living with this hobby.Always nice to have a new smiley face on the map.Cache greetings from Ellen Sch, Norway
Out on a geocache trip with Ellen Sch , Team Eika and ingsve on holiday in New Zealand, and today it was this area that was prioritized If nothing else is mentioned, we found the cache at good coordinates and it was fine To save space in the log, we often log in with the nickname N4 Many thanks to CO for laying out and maintaining this Greetings from Norway TFTCUte p en geocache-tur med Ellen Sch,Team Eika og ingsve p ferien i New Zealand og idag var det dette omrdet som ble prioritert Hvis ikke annet er nevnt s fant vi cachen p gode koordinater og den hadde det braFor spare plass i loggen logger vi ofte med nick N4Tusen takk til Til CO for utlegg og vedlikehold av denne Hilsen fra Norge TFTC
In NZ from the US, we swing by here to get the nearby super-oldie and picked up this one on the way. This gets the best-named-cache-of-all-those-we-have-found-in-NZ-since-we-got-here award (and a fav point for that!)
Wasn't too hard to find once I found the old fence. Had a newbie with me so now she's hooked
Came for a walk to here this morning in light rain, it's quite a few years since I was last in this area. It didn't take long at all to find this - I saw from previous log entries that others had been led by thsir GPS devices to the wrong side of the track but my Garmin was definitely putting me close to the correct spot. A nicely chosen and well concealed hiding spot! Signed log, TFTC.
#2660. It was back in November that fillipa4892 from Norway made contact thru Facebook about getting to GC46, and so plans were hatched to make it so. Together with her travelling companion sussah21 from Sweden, we made the trip from Manakau after a very successful plum selling yesterday at Paraparaumu Beach. After finding GC46 & 2 other close by caches, we headed along the very leafy trail to this one. It wasnt long before I made the find - and confirmed that the cache name is very appropriate. Tftc ThatDarnBear/LL113. Might have to head down to Chch again some day & renew our caching friendship!
Whow, sussah21 and me on a yourney to New Zealand. We have planned this trip for many years, and finaly we are here.We will visit lovely places, hopfully see animals and birds that we dont have back home.Thank you so much for all the caches.Greetings from Sweden and Norway Fin tur. God stemning hele veien.
# #7,122 #----------Once I got to GZ, I bumped into TeamGeBakjes, who I met the day before at my event in Wellington. It was nice seeing you again. We both searched for this to no luck but then once I had swapped sides of the path, it was a nice quick find here. Have safe travels on the rest of your time here TeamGeBakjes TFTC!!! ----------> All geocaches are signed as mmmPIZZA or mPZ
I was looking for this cache, when mmmm (the co from the event in Wellington) went by. I was very glad he came to look for the cache, because I was on the wrong side of the road...Mmmpizza, nice talking to you! Hope you got your flight.
Like so many other finders of this cache we were on our way to GC46. I had seen the photo in the description so I knew where to look while others in the family weren't sure. A nice little feature and easy find of the cache once we were there. Had a lovely walk along here, I was very happy to read in the description of this cache that it was a walk in the trees as we were worried about the heat today. It was actually quite nice in the bush, nice shade and a little breeze too. Very enjoyable trip, thanks for the cache!
It's been quite a few years since I was here, but came today with angelic_kiwi who is keen to find the oldest cache (I found that some years ago). So this was a quick find along the way. GPS had me on the other side of the track initially, but soon worked out we were in the wrong place. We were surprised at the coolness along here in the bush on such a hot day, which was much appreciated. tftc
Found this cache on the way to GC46Thank you for contributing to the game by the placement and care of this cache. TFTC
I am with Muggle on a three and half week trip to NZ. Nothing serious, just the well trodden track every NZ tourist does who is coming from the other side of the world and has not the chance to come here more often. North Island is done, Auckland Coromandel, Rotorua touched. Now it is two days to spend in Wellington before the ferry goes. In the morning muggle is so kind to check whether the pillow is as quiet with the other ear as with the 1st one. I am alotted two hours of caching. This morning I was heading out for some the one cache on the list of every cacher visiting NZ. From CBD I needed 1/2 hour drive and 20 minutes hike from the parking lot. The nature was almost to beautiful to be visited for the cache only. But nature we will have in plenty on the south island. Of course, I checked what else to grab on the way! This one looked so easy but was more difficult than I expected. The coordinates were shown on the other side of the path. And there is also a fence. But not the correct one. After some back and forth and ruining nature in the wrong place I was almost going on when I checked the other side. FOUND! Funny this small sheet of paper for logging considering that every cacher visiting GC46 wants to log a Found with this one, too.Thx for hiding.
We were going to Wellington by bus for a whole night. Than we were waiting for the ferry and explored the town.Greetings from Europe (the Czech Republic).Small trip out of town started right than... Our first way to NZ forest. ....Thanks.
Well we made this much more difficult than it should have been. We folllowed where others have clearly looked but we saw and found nothing that looked like GZ. We spread out our search and still nothing. We were about to give up when Mrs had a moment that actually worked. After that we quickly had it in hand. TFTC
Loving our trip to NZ and finding some targeted caches. Great hide here coming back from GC 46. Hello from Celebration, FL. SL. TFTC!
Before we went to the first cache in New Zealand, we first visited this cache. We took a nice walk and looked for and found the can a short time later. The Knuffelbren from Nuremberg say thank you for the cache.
We had travelled down from Taranaki today and our plan for Welly was to find GC46. Since our planning earlier this year it was a nice surprise to see a new cache published which we had to walk past to get to GC46. Once we managed to spot the gate the cache was quickly spotted. Admin performed and replaced as found. TFTC
Today's weather was terrific so it seemed to me that it would be a shame to take advantage of if to get in a couple of after work cache searches. I didn't spot the feature as quickly as I should have but, once I did, it was plain sailing. I love the cache name.
Took some searching to find the fence in question but once I did I found a flourishing moss colony and also a geocache. Tftc!
If I could have seen the photograph in the description it would have been helpful, but my GPS does not display images. I met a couple of German geocachers here and the three of us searched for quite some time, mostly on the wrong side of the path. It was only after we had given up and were headed for the 2000 cache, that the likely place was spotted, and the cache was found. My GPS showed the coordinates were good. TFTC ThatDarnBear.
I'd just come down from Kittyhawk Down with the plan that if I still had plenty of time I would come up here for a walk. I hadn't been here for a long time but it was all quite familiar still. I didn't see many people on the walk to the cache but on the way back it was like holiday traffic on the road. It's slightly remote here so I wonder why it's so popular. When I got to GZ I initially seemed to be directed to the middle of the path. But I spotted an access that looked promising then a familiar artefact from the cache page. Apparently when you're 10 do don't see obvious items like a fence but rather all the moss. And so the title must include that in there somewhere. Or in this case, the title must be made entirely of that. Somehow I did not see that cache when scanning the area but only after reading the hint that it came into view in a spot I surely must have checked. Thanks for the excuse to back back to this area.
I walk this way often on my way to GC46 to pick up or drop off trackables or both, and used to have a cache on the track myself. You can probably see the groove worn by me I have been along the path so often Today I was passing on my way to drop off trackables at the classic cache.I never get tired of walking this route and today was a nice day for it.GPS wasn't very helpful, probably an issue with reception rather than with the posted coordinates. I looked on the wrong side first but that didn't conform to the description. I then tried the other side and probably didn't choose the best approach but got there in the end, on the way back from GC46 I spotted what appeared would have been a better way.A quick find once I was in the right place. Thanks for the Cachy McCache Cache
### Around the world in 85 days - Step 8 - New Zealand ###My wife GM70 and I are traveling around the world enjoying beautiful places in many countries. On our way to GC46 we stopped here to visit this very new cache. Congratulations to your 10 year old - an excellent name was picked. All the best from AustriaBaumi_Bon the road with my wife GM70
I was wondering what the team were talking about when they mentioned the co's daughter's superb cache naming skills but with no clue as to context I stayed out of that conversation. So I didn't discover that this cache had been published till nearly the end of out (Taybee and me) mission in Wanganui. Well, almost Otaki, really. So I commented on the name, thinking it is a vast improvement/parody of Mossy McMossface. We finished up and came homewards, keeping an eye on the logs here, frankly surprised that no one was ahead of us.
Went to the slightly closer car park, but found a gate across the road, making it a much further away car park, so we turned around and went to the CO recommended park. See? That why she recommended it! Follow the recommendation guys, the CO knows!
Set off following the track. By the way, I should point out that it is night time. I am working off my cellphone torch, Taybee has a torch but it was mostly flat and he soon switched to his cellphone too. A few minutes later the track dropped back down to... an open grassy field. Look You can see the cemetery! And the car! (there was a tiny amount of light left). Man, we took the long way here! Should have just cut across the field!
Carried on along the path, a bit slow going as Taybee has blister giving him gip. Got to GZ and we started casting around for what I thought was a gate. Took ages to find, mainly because of the trees and the night and the trees and the dark and the bushes and the general lack of light. And the poor gps signal. Thankfully I had offlined the cache, so we had a bit more than just coordinates to help. Not that that actually helped!
Well I generally do not give favourites for micros but in this case it was a night walk and a bush walk - two things I love, so a favourite it is. Signed as TATS - TaybeeNZ and the Seagnoid.
On the way back we carefully avoided the path and crossed the field. Much better!
Many thanks for the night walk and the {FTF}!
