Find # 15949Been a while since I've been out solo for a long trip. But things change over time. And I'm living the past.So with some time off work, I've jumped the border wall to chase down some long trails in South Aussie... don't know how many I'll get. But I've got quite a few downloaded. I do have a short hit list ( of 2) caches to help with a challenge. All others are just for the Adventure and countryside views. Armed with all the necessary TOTT from tweezers and magnet grab to 6m ladder and 8m fishing pole. I believe I'm prepared for all that I'll come across. (Just had to leave the Kayak at home )Day 7. Naracoorte to HomeA day to take in the sites of the Naracoorte area before jumping back over the border. To head for home. Grabbing the odd cache along the way. A great little walk in the twilight. Thankfully the paddocks I went through were Moo-gle free.Interesting in the night light. TFTC maccamob
May 19, 2024 2:56 PMStopped for this hoping it just might be far enough North to fill in a page for the Victorian Road Atlas challenge. We may or may not have missed the sign indicating the start of the walking trail. We may or may not have driven into the wrong paddock by mistake. We may or may not have suddenly had the geomobile surrounded by what seemed like a couple of thousand sheep. We may or may not driven to the top of the hill in our attempt to escape the couple of thousand sheep that may or may not have surrounded the geomobile, hoping we were now at GZ. We may or may not have then realised we were still about 650m from the actual GZ with a couple of thousand sheep chasing us again. We may or may not have escaped the paddock after spotting the correct rock from the top of the incorrect hill while being chased again by a couple of thousand sheep. We may or may not need a lesson on how to read a map and a compass. We will definitely always remember this cache being at 'Sheep Hill'.
It was raining when i pulled up to the parking co ords. The mountain was in fog. I started the walk through the grass, by the time i got to the mountain my pants where wet way about the knees from the wet grass and both my wet were soaked through. Walked around in circles for a couple of minutes before finding the cache. Walked back in the rain. Great spot for a cache. fav point.Found with Mogni. I think this is the most changed trip in the planning stage that i have ever been on. The " original trip " was supposed to start on the 31st of dec but at the start of decemeber life changed and the trip was now starting on the 26th of decemeber and all accommodation that had booked cancelled and now see what else is free on the ealier dates. A major readjust of plans and got 1/2 the trip booked before the next curve ball came in to alter the plans again. More adjusting the plans again and i realized i could host 2 CITO's in 2 different LGA's in victoria. What we do to qualify for victorian challenge caches. Also i got my 20, 000 cache over in victoria in this trip. It was decided in the end that the 4x4 was going to be the vechicle for this trip that way we could go and target all the caches that you never get, the ones down the sandy/rocky/dirt and forestry roads/tracks. We left Adelaide and headed to Casterton for a couple of days, then to Budj Bim National Park ( and saw 5 koalas in the camp ground high up in the trees ), then over Heywood, a night in Mount Gambier plus there attended the 3rd CITO of the trip before sending a few nights in Millicent and then finally home. Over 250 caches found plus 86 lab caches. Mogni also got her 11th D/T loop. I also got 3 more victorian LGA's up to 20 finds mininium for another victorian challenage cache. If the cache was broken/eaten/smashed it was reaced with a new container and if the logsheet was wet it was replaced and if the log was full or almost full extra log sheets were added to the cache.
I headed down to Portland from Bendigo yesterday for an event there today. I'm collecting a few caches for an LGA Challenge. This was just one I found while out and about this afternoon.
Enjoyed the walk out through the farmers paddocks, the orange triangles marking the trail seemed to be a little on the not enough side.
Thanks maccamob for placing this cache.

Stopped by here and took about 10mins before worked out needing to go. Saw a 1km walk there and back, so running short in time saved it for when out here again.
Fantastic day for getting the cache and climbing up the rock.
Had lunch at the top.
Noticed the cache had been found and rescued by a muggle. See pix.
Thanks to Marian.

Late afternoon/evening drive out to this cache with DarthVader69. Lovely walk through the paddock with the cows letting everyone know we were there. Not so lovely was the smell of a rotting roo carcass inside the reserve. Almost didn't find the cache at GZ. Thank you to previous loggers. SL at 6pm. Enjoyed the trip back to the car in the dark with torches. *Found and rescued 'NA' TB after I found it outside of the cache by chance! TFTC and exercise!
Baby Rock before getting to Giant rock lol , great day out with FlirtinWithDanger again and enjoyed the walk there , but as we were heading home we had to get the torches out to see where we were going and we I headed around a tree in the dark a big roo jumped out and scared the - well let’s just say scared me lol
Disabled for the duration of the renewed Covid-19 lockdown. We believe the responsible thing is to disable all our caches until this latest crisis passes.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Disabled for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis. Although exercise is ok, beaches, parks etc are gradually being closed, and we are being asked to stay home. The virus can be transmitted by surface contact, so please don't take the chances. Geocaching is a game, and we are dealing with a serious Public Health issue, so we need to get our priorities in order. Please stay at home!
We believe the responsible thing is to disable all our caches, until this crisis passes.
Thanks.

Who finds caches at 3:30am? Me I was woken up by a party in my campsite so I woke up packed up and hit the road.
I arrived at the parking around 5am but as I slowly got closer to the cache the rain picked up and the grass got longer. The grass got to chest high and at night time I thought it was too dangerous. Back again another day,

Found on walk with Wimmera Bushwalking club. GPS coordinates seemed a bit off but a fellow walker found the prize. Thanks Jenny's!

Wimmera Bushwalkers came up the mountain, muggle Jenny found it 11m up the hill from gz, great spot, would not have found or came to this Candy mountain without maccamob . Left tb . TFTC
We climbed the stiles and faced the cows, then fought with the electric fence. Nasty things, electric fences, when it has been raining and the metal gates are wet, but we soldiered on and made it to the rock. As it was raining we choose not to try the climb to the top, we will return to do this on a day that it is find. SL TFTC
Found the cache then climbed the rock. What a view. Cheers for this amazing site seeing experience. There is an easy way up, so dobt kill 6a self doing it tge hard way.
Great find...watch putting your hands in dark places. Not a mid summer find with long grass
Definitely an Autumn Cache. Snakes in Summer. Soggy in Winter. Challenging walk in to base of the rock. Coordinates close enough for some looking around to be successful.
This couldn't be too hard could it??
Average of 3 finds a year & 5 Fave points & being a maccamob cache it was really a must do.
Found it challenging to say the least & mostly because of the humidity & the dam noisy cows
Those that know me know that I walk in & out slowly & carefully which I did & then after 20 mins at GZ I was just about to give up & there it was.
Great views, great cache, bloody cows
another fave point from TWDG
TFTC & the challenge D&M
p.s. probably need to up the terrain points I reckon
p.p.s. took TB - this aint no place for a Teddy Bear

Found on day 2 trip of geocaching. Western Victoria today! Find # 6 For the day
Extremely overgrown be careful. Gps out but found in obvious spot. Left TB.

Found it on a nice mild evening. Great walk and great view when climbing the rock.
typical for us - went the long way around. Good day - very long grass - no bulls - plenty of holes - good exercise and great views. Shame so many people don't know it exists. Oh and still soggy. Electric fences still humming.
What a great cache! I introduced a friend to caching today and she loved it. It was very slushy! The coordinates were out though.
After a good hour of looking (including climbing to the top, the hard way).
Could not find the cache.
Noticed the GPS going crazy also (best fix I could get was at the base of the rock).
Happy to receive some further clues or hints and might give it another shot some time.

Having made an aborted attempt a while ago, we decided to alter our route slightly today to take us past this one. Mrs O stayed behind with the car to mind Sir Maxy and Haywah while Mr O went for a walk. Some fantastic views from GZ, and it's amazing we've never really noticed this very prominent feature until visiting it today. Some great views of the spot when leaving, too. TFTC maccamob.
We came armed with a new lid, and took the opportunity to replace the log book as well.
Not really knowing what to expect we set off on the hunt for this cache. Reading previous logs we were glad that it was a coolish day. As we walked across the paddock we were trying to estimate the distance to the cache to the distance to the top of the rock. Where would you hide a cache on such a feature. How cruel are the hiders? Are they mountain goats? (I'm not going to give that away) In the end an enjoyable experience to another of those places that if not for caching ..... Thanks for the hunt SL (by the way the lid is cracked but the contents seem to be holding up ok.
Tough hike on a pretty warm day, wish I took my water (oops forgot) left geobub in car with his dad and went up with pfeiffs. Lots of spiders around and a threat of snakes. Great view from the top reasonably easy find. TFTC
Wow what an effort. Would suggest the terrain rating may need to go up - in particular with the waist high grass hiding many stumbling spots. Great view from GZ!
Left playing cards, took Sideshow Bob.

what a great little adventure to find this one... no cows and bulls, but plenty of sidestepping accross the paddock!! - especially with a 2yo on my shoulders - if anyone finds my pen, feel free to keep it!! left sideshow bob, took baa baa sheep TB. thanks for a great cache, mandikaye.
PS - thanks for the addiction to GFC irish truffles:)

Me and my friend came here just because it was called Candy Mountain hehe....Once we'd climbed up to the base of the rock my Dad said we'll go this way around...it was the wrong way...we went nearly all the way around and then found the cache where we'd started! TFTC
found by W/tong Rock Donkies @ 1700hr, Didn't take anything , left something. We got very wet feet and a wet rump. Reference is a little out . to be found on a shelf.

Happily for me the grass had recently been cut, making access to this somewhat out of the way spot much easier. As I approached gz I saw a likely spot but the GPS was pointing eleswhere. Others had clearly also searched the elsewhere but with no obvious hiding spot I very soon looked at the first place I had seen and found the cache. This was some 14m from my gz, which is very unusual for a maccamob cache so I'm thinking that the extinct volcano creates a magnetic vortex, throwing all the GPS's out.
found by demath +friendsVery impressed with this spot, I feel a bit silly to have had no idea it was here until now though.Another good example of the quote"if it wasn't for geocaching I wouldn't have known!"many swaps, many kidsTFTC
P.S In the clear evening light, with the waning moon setting the whole scene takes on a very "hanging rock" feel."Let's have a picnic!"someone said, and so we did."Is that moon waning and rising, or waxing and setting?"he asked."Miranda will know", was the answer,"where is Miranda,?"they all asked."Has anyone seen Miranda?.............Miranda!!.they shouted..Â

Unfortunately no Miranda was to be found - and not for a lack of looking!
But our party did locate the geocache on a lovely sunny (and thankfully not too glary) afternoon.

My 3rd maccamob find today and my 3rd in the vulcan series
Unfortunately no candy on the mountain today, as I visited on the sabath.
The giant rock certainly stands out a landscape of rolling green hills.
The bulls were quite frisky today have a head butting competition with each other, but thankfully they were in the neighbouring field today.
It was an easy climb to the top of the rock. at least compared to carrying my daughter most of the way to the rock.
Thankfully easily found @ 1420 by GeoKid 1. who is always excited to spot a cache first.
TNLNSL
I will have to visit 5, 6 & 7 soon, as 5 has been my nearest unfound cache for a while now.
Thanks maccamob.

Found at 1415 hrs. After a great lunch at the Fine Foods cafe and then indulging at the Chocolate Factory, we decided that we needed a good walk to shed some of the calories we had consumed. Arrived at GZ and saw the general direction we had to go. Also noticed the farmer working in a distant paddock, and with some trepidation we ventured into his paddocks. Made our way pass the cattle to the opposite end and into the reserve. Found the cache after a while and made our exchanges and signed the log. As we descended we noticed the farmer standing by our car, but as we walked across the paddock, he came up and had a quick chat about why anyone would want to walk up to that rock. And then with a wave he was off.
Thanks maccamob for another interesting cache. PS do you know anything about the old mansion (called Mernda) that you pass on the way to the rock. It sure looks interesting, so we may have to check it out on the net when we get back.
Took mondo and karabiner, left koala & 30's badges.

What a great spot, how did you find this one?
We had a short conversation with some cows and bulls who were having breakfast as we passed through. Fortunately, they weren't too fussed with us.
Good collection of bird nests built under the overhang on the top.
Thanks, Robmc.

I had been looking forward for a long time to completing some of the Vulcan series and today provided the chance to enjoy the volcanic landscape of the western district. This little gem involved walking through a field complete with two hereford bulls that gave Rob and I the once over before letting us pass. A couple of stiles later we were in the reserve inspecting this unusual outcrop. Lovely spot. TNLN thanks Maccamob.
Brave the thunder and lighting also the threat of getting drenched by rain, we got to GZ and back with only minutes to spare before it bucketed down. What an amazing area didnt know about this rock thanxs for bringing us here.

But it was interesting wandering past the cows and around the rock. Cache found safe and sound in its hidey hole

Found by Team Ladava 3.40pm before we made a run for home at the end of a week caching along the Great Ocean Road and on to Robe.
Finally the opportunity to log a maccamob cache.
We feel we almost know you David and Mary after our exchange of emails re. the Smurf TB you brought down from Wagga, reading you logs in almost every cache we have found and listening to your interview on the pod-cast CD we found in the Library Stash in the You Yangs which I think was your first find and you logged you 'were hooked'.
Another interesting spot visited due to Geocaching

found it! What a mission. First there where cows and sheep in the paddock so the debate was on weather we should go in or not (not to mention the huge bulls all line up along the fence where you walk up to the rock). Ok, decided to go, not a problem except L is scared of grasshoppers (dont ask) so after braving them one kiddo decided walking is too hard and dad has to carry him. Yay. Up we go until we come across a gate (new installation) Andrew went to open it (bulls in this paddock) which give access to the rock gate. Whack. Ow, Nah, Whack ow, damn gate was pushed across the flexy electric fence extension.... So one last whack and we are in. Once we did the indiana jones under the flexy zapper (like a long electrified occy strap). Just a short walk in knee high grass up to the cache and then quick easy find (more joy). Apart from having to piggy back one kid and carry the other up the hill we made it.
Apart from that TNLNSL but I will sleep well tonight
Thanks for the cache!!!!
The farmers done a bit of work with new gates/electric fences, I think the terrain could go up a notch....

Found by Roma and Max.
Overshot the way in to this one, but met and had a chat to a friendly local doing some hay baling, and he directed us back to our goal. This sure is a bigggg sample of it’s particular type. The approach paddock had been mown, but the reserve had us waist high in grass. Care will need to be taken here over the summer months for the various hazards that may lurk there. Made our find and log etc., and on the return journey passed 3 very big bulls, in the adjourning paddock, although they appeared to take little interest in us. Thank goodness for electric fences.
We took a Small Camper, somewhat similar to ours, and left a Mondo Figurine.
Thanks again maccamob, we are up and running now, on your Vulcan Series.

Found this little gem of a cache (while we were following the Vulcan trail) on the way to the SA Fourth Festive Frolic Weekend that's being held on the Queens Birthday long weekend.
This area around this cache location is not very well signposted, a pity really as it's a great location.
TN, Left a "cat" headband and some silver glitter glue.

Found this Cache on a cold wet day. don't know how though between the rain, the rabbit holes and the steep climb but we did it.
Discovered with family from the area who didn't even know that the big rock existed even though it is right on their own doorstep.
Put in plastic bull and MCG medallion and took plastic cow and puzzle.
Also left 'Phil Lately" TB.

As we pulled into the parking bay it was very obvious where we would be heading. All the cows were extremely interested in our progress as we wandered through their paddock.
Headed straight to GZ and Diane walked straight to it for a nice easy find in this series
Filled in log, made swaps (not sure what) and headed back to the car, our first dry cache of the day

this one took one GeoWombat ages to find. GZ was all over the place on the GPS and I suspect the rock is partly responsible for that. So it got to the point of putting the GPS down and just asking myself where I would put a 1.2l box if I was trying to hide a cache. Then it took 5 minutes GPS was between 8-10 m out - within error but a bit more than usual.
Rather nice time of year to tackle this cache as the paddock had been cut and baled. Don't think about going in the next paddock - it's the bull paddock and has some fine specimens
Took: walrus
Left: McRabbit and bungy cord.

I visited this one back in September, but had a mishap that caused damage to me and the cache container, so I was keen to return and put things right. Last time I was here it was dark, so it was good to see the rock in daylight--I feel like I've really completed the series now. Last time I was here the grass was knee high, and my jeans got a drenching--this time the paddock was full of hay bales. [^] Last time I was here it was dark, and the flies had gone to bed--this time they were out in force. [B)] Last time I was here the chocolate shop was closed--this time I spent $19 there!
There had been a visit by 'Team Jaws' on 7 October, but I see that it hasn't been logged online. Anyhow, I had returned with a fresh container to replace the damaged one. The container is the same (1L Sistema), but it no longer has the distinctive maccamob camouflage; it now has the Emu Mob pathetic-attempt-at-camouflage (paint it black and spray patches of green, brown, and grey on it). The cache contents were dry and in good condition. Thanks again maccamob for the series--it's in our top ten.

By the time barcoder and I got to the car park, it was well-and-truly dark. The paddocks lived up to the warning in the cache description; by the time we arrived at the Reserve, out feet, shoes, and trouser legs were saturated! [B)] We arrived at GZ and started searching. After about 20 min barcoder said those magic words: "Found it!". It was 2020. The chocolate shop was closed.
Unfortunately, I had a small mishap when replacing the cache, which resulted in a squashed finger, [B)] and a cache container a little the worse for wear . One of the clips needs care to make sure the cache is weather proof. I re-attached the clip and secured it with rubber bands. If possible, could the next cacher please take a replacement container. The current container is a 1.2L Sistema box.
We started this series with Mahout way back in November, last year--our seventh cache find. It's been a long time coming, but it is nice to finally complete the series. Every cache in the series is a gem, although we didn't see much of this one in the dark. Thanks maccamob for an enjoyable series--we know a lot more about volcanic activity now. [^]

Well! What more can I add to Dak's cache log below but, yes it's true!! It's very dark up in the Western District after 8 pm. And very wet too.
We were lucky that the temperature was mild, although it had rained a fair bit while we were driving up. We were very happy to be rewarded after only 20 mins searching by torch light (no moon). You just have to climb that 'little bit further' for the prize. I think that when we 'made it back' to the car, we had nearly half a litre of water in our shoes![xx(] It was nice to dry our feet and put clean socks and shoes on. Dak had a 'diced & sliced' finger for his trouble.[B)] But he, and we were happy with our effort.
Yes,we did start this series with Mahout way back in November, last year, but I was Emu-J then. I am determined to log them as myself. Thanks maccamob.

Found 17:15, in the last of the day light, unfortunately with the light fading fast and dinner calling there was no time to explore this location thoroughly
Thanks Maccamob for a great day's caching, took ball bearing puzzle and left camper van.

Found at 1.00pm
We have driven past this feature many times but had never stopped before.
Wet feet were the order of the day but the rain stayed away until after we had found the cache.
A quick climb to the summit in a hail storm and a quick walk back to the car.
We took a Starfish and left a picture puzzle
Thanks Maccamob

Found by Hall of fame,a pleasant stroll, timed nicely between the rain showers.Took bag sealers left beads.
Found this at the end of a short interstate trip. Didn't have the description sheet but thought we would give it a go anyway. Took a while to get to GZ as "old spice's" artificial knees didn't like the long grass and frequent hidden holes. GPS was playing up so left it to try to sort itself out and did the think like a cacher act. Took two attempts in the same spot before I moved the right thing. Took emergency blanket and left bag closer clips.
Great rock and a great walk across the paddocks and going head to head with those cows. Even managed to dodge all the patties so rewarded ourselves with a visit to the chocolate shop - mmmmm nice truffles. Took picture frame and left puzzle. Thanks maccamob for showing us all these unusual and interesting places we would never find on our own.
It was raining as I left the car to head for this one. Having rained for much of the day so far, the grass was long and wet. Whilst walking to GZ I discovered that my new shoes are not waterproof. Yuuuuk!
Once at GZ, I searched around for a short time while the GPS settled down. Once this happened, the cache was quickly found. I took the teddy bear and left an emergency blanket. Its a Great Rock!
I bought the obligatory chocolates on my return through the town. Thanks Maccamob, for a look at another fascinating part of the landscape.

ouch. I'm still sore after doing caviar. But the trip to the chocolate factory was well worth the visit before this climb through the long grass. (I fell down a hole) found after a short look. Swapped teddy 4 highlighter. Thanx maccamob
2nd maccamob for the day and the sky's are looking grey. Coral and I rugged up and headed up the hill. She went one way I went the other.
Found the cache at 1225 swapped a candle for an egg cup. Hid the cache for Coral to find.
Headed down the hill and lost site of Coral she had fallen down a hole . Must have been a big hole.
We bought some yummy chocolate on our way up this hill for energy. Very nice...
Thanks Maccamob.
