Fine place for a cache - sadly now abandoned.

We got to WP1 and found the required information which then took us to WP2. There was a lot of vegetation that has obviously grown since the cache was published in 2004, but we were able to get close enough to just read the sign to get the required information. We then went back to the car and drove around until we parked near the dump [or is that called a recycle centre?] We only had a short 380m walk to GZ. Sadly the contents of the cache are all wrecked, but we managed to sign the log. TFTC

19-Feb-12
Parked the car at WP 1 and wandered around WP2 quickly found man what a spot [^]. On the way to WP3 along a fence I found a firstcross ewe stuck in a ring lock fence, I had to stop and rescue it, poor thing was a bit unsteady on its feet as it had been there a while and the electric fence hopping made it all the more fun.Surprised After the little adventure we found the prize TFTC bubble & squeak.

Found a stuck sheep made it unstuck then found the cache. Thanks for the cache.

1935.Found by baby&Mrs gopher at 1630.Jerry must have been a very special man for the family to honour him like they did. After we got the information required we drove to the gateway just 380 meters from GZ.Had a phone call from Gungahlin about a hail storm that had just passed and to tell us if we were out in the open we could get caught.A most enjoyable stroll to the final location.SL Took TB.Tnx bubble & squeek

After all this time there is need for some cache maintenance. The container is not waterproof and has spoiled the interior.

Found after completing the long walk, did drive a bit of the way though. Not a fan of the barbed wire fences though. Interesting place.

Haven't done a multi cache for a while. Nice hunt although we did cheat a little by driving to the GZ.

Phew! What a walk! It was nice to be out in the sunshine though and the views were really nice.

Bloody stupid fence cut my wrist so thank you to the thoughtful person who left a bandaid in the cache! I left a movie voucher in exchange - hope someone enjoys that!

TFTC!

What a fun cache this was to find. The walk was welcome too as we had just gorged on pizza in town.

It was so nice to see the small wildflowers blooming through the grass as we made our way across the paddocks to GZ.

We paused briefly at the park bench to admire the view and decided to leave the bike jackets there while covering the last few hundred metres.

Geokid got spiked on the barbed wire fence - but luckily there was a bandaid in the cache which was exchanged for a Hoyts movie voucher (fair trade I reckon).

The log requires replacing - some kind cacher has left a McDonald's napkin as a temporary solution!

Signed the napkin - TFTC (and the bandaid).

This one took me some effort, sometimes the obvious isn't so obvious until you think again. It was a nice (long) walk to GZ. TFTC!

Nice walk - very wet today - good history.

A very pleasant stroll

This is the last cache at Gundaroo that I hadn’t done. It was a great little adventure WP-1 easy than WP-2 the penny finally dropped and then off to GZ with curious cattle watching on. I exchanged swaps and left TB thanks.

Reperio at 0945. Having just stopped by one cemetery, it was time to make it two in a row. Very much enjoyed WP2 as it was very unique, but after plotting the numbers for GZ, I had to check them three times to make sure they were right. Can't understand why it is so far away, but in the end, clambered over fences and walked through field to find the cache safe and sound.

Well Gundaroo should end up with some geocachers as I too took some locals out caching as I was visiting them at a near by dwelling and invited them out for the hunt. As you can imagine an 11yo boy had a ball given the gadget and not too much instruction the adventure was had.

Introduced some local muggles to geocaching. Found the cache after a good walk through some very pleasant countryside. Worth the visit.

193 - Found this one our family weekend get away.
On a hot day with a long walk with great views of the area with the backing sounds of a few birds while the GEO kids tried to catch the grass hoppers

Great Cache, as we dragged a long a local muggle mate who had never been to the common before.
Very noisy with Aussie Ravens guarding cache.

Out today for a ride and decided to tackle this cache. A nice start and wander but the wind and heat made it a bit unpleasant. Still, a good reason for a stop and a visit to and out of the way place. Tks B&S. L: w6r pathtag

Found the first WP did a quick calculation, found 2nd WP then started our walk, mmmmm doubted our calculations, rechecked out math all seem good so be kept going. Glad we did. Nice walk, fun cache. TFTC

This was a nice enjoyable cache. Interesting WP2 then a nice walk to GZ. TFTC!

Driving to Gundaroo today was like the old style Sunday afternoon drive. Just gorgeous. We had to dodge lots of cow poo on the way to the cache because we didn't take the conventional path. Not because we were trying to be smarty poo pants and go directly to the cache but we could find it. Loved the waypoints, loved everything about it.

05-Sep-09
whew!!! that took a while.

22-Aug-09
We planned a weekend in Gundaroo to meet up with friends from Sydney and saw the opportunity to record another cache and the common interested us.
After Lunch at the Cafe we strolled out to the common to locate the cache.
Our friends had not been Geocaching before and enjoyed hunting down the clues and locating the cache.
Thanks for the cache as we would not have known of the common and we enjoyed the walk to locate the cache and the view on the way back to Gundaroo.

this was a nice little multi with some intersting history in the area geo kid would not come for the walk amonst the cow pattys

Hmm, I am sure this cache would have been easier if I had gone the long way and not the direct way.

Despite being very familiar with barb wire fences, with two geodogs in tow weighing in at more than 40kgs between them, hoisting them over 3 barb wire fences was no fun.

At fence number 3 I almost turned around and gave in but with only 170m to go and already being drenched from the rain I continued on.

Found cache, quick sign and re-hide. Headed back along the path via the tip which the dogs LOVED. I just enjoyed the gate in the fence.

TFTC, I enjoyed the wander and so did the dogs

Found with Hailtothethief on a cold and windy day. Fairly miserable walk to the cache but we needed the exercise after a huge yummy lunch at Grazing. TFTC

Nice one. Fairly cold stroll among the cowpats after a great lunch at grazing.

An excellent short multi. Got the info and was impressed the common's fund was set up so long ago. Entered the common at the carpark and meandered my way past the convenient park bench along the clearly marked footpads and made the simple find. No cows today. Thanks B&S.

Unknown to me I did my 600th the cache before this one. But still I wrote in this logbook that this was my 600th. Hey only one out. This one had me and my geomum. We got what we needed at the first and second waypoints after closing a gate for someone near the second waypoint. I worked out sort of where gz was looking on my gps maps. Went back to waypoint 1 and entered there and got to one gate near a big fence and made a easy find. Didnt climb over any fences and was our walking cache for the day TFTC

28-May-09
Got the first two WPs easily enough. Then headed as directed on tracks to GZ. When I saw the cows I thought I must be on private land, so I jumped the barbed wire fence into, what turned out to be, one of the nature areas. I crossed that and jumped another fence back to the GZ. Found the cache and returned along the tracks amongst the cows.

I always get nervous when I'm in a paddock with cows as I expected a Gundarooian to come and question my prescence.

Found at 15:10 - the fifth of my day out with frogdude and his lovely non-caching wife, frogbabe.

Fresh from a big lunch, we decided to walk the extra weight off again by going after this cache.

A visit to the rather unusual gravesite to get some numbers (Gerry was newly married at a rather, ummm, mature age), and we were on our way.

The cows looked rather bemused as we passed (here come some more of those human-things carrying GPS's, they thought), and the cache was an easy find. We passed a small group chucking pine cones at trees as we headed back to the Stealth GeoBeast.

I had decided by the end of this little trek that I like commons.

Oh, and does anybody know the story behind the wooden cutout boy and dog towards the front of the cemetery?

Thanks bubble & squeak Big Grin

A drive around this small country town had us well within the distance we first thought we had to walk. But it was still worth the walk.

A nice little walk and some interesting local trivia, along the way. Gate blocked by cows upon our exit.walked past but geokid 1 wanted to pat cow and cow did not appreciate stranger.
Took yo-yo and left my little pony.

A lovely walk on a warm autumn afternoon - Hux particularly enjoyed the swim in the dam on the way back to the car! Razz

Love Gerry's tree. Took nothing, left pathtag, TFTC!!

A Sunday afternoon spent caching around the countryside. This was a welcomed cache to get out and stretch the legs as the 10 previous ones were all traditionals. An interesting tree at WP2. The walk to GZ was interesting as I was a little weary of all the cows nearby watching me.

2040.

I think I'm going insane! I'm sure the last time we looked at this cache it was all in UTM but we were in town for a few quick finds today and had a look at this one.

Thanks bubble & squeak for sharing this lovely area.

1st of 12 finds and 1 DNF on a day trip from Canberra that took in some great little country towns such as Gundaroo, Gunning, Dalton, Jerrawa and Crookwell.

Always enjoy a good multi. This one took us through an interesting area to find the required and then off on a walk. A little hot for it today, so was please when we found it and got back to the car.

TFTC.

Cheers,

889 - A Sunday run with Sol with which we were rewarded with visiting some lovely areas and towns not really that far from Canberra - 1/14.

A nice little (?) multi - just the type I like gathering some info (and seeing things like the old tree at WP1) and then heading off to GZ.

Despite the heat it was an enjoyable cache.

TNLN - TFTC !!

Cheers....

This was an interesting cache. Got the required info easily enough, then as I was about to exit the place I was surprised to see a strange man exiting the bushes. With no questions or words spoken I exited the place and found another way to GZ.
Once there it was an easy find except for the rabbit which scared the you know whats out of me.
Thanks

Ah yes, that would be me with the impractical footwear. My excuse is that I was expecting a stroll along the main street. Still, it was great to be out and about. Thanks for showing us a fascinating location.

What a marvellous visit SuperJaz and I had to Gundaroo. Coffee at a cafe, a lovely walk to find a cache and then finished it off with lunch at Grazing.

It was a little warm, and very windy, but still a great day to be out caching. We found some very interesting markers near WP1. Then an easy stroll to the cache, although as we where dressed for lunch, one of us did not have the most practical walking shoes!

This Cache was most interesting one for the day. We like the multi finds and we like places of history. Wow what a story the weeping widow could tell if it could talk. Just to let you know that the sign on the common gate says "authorised vehicles only". Would be a nice walk if we were prepared properly. Thanks Team Hoogs

Visited this cache on my way out to the farm in Dalton today. Longer walk then i was anticipating. I suggest keeping to the tracks and not jumping thru fences and me and the dog did..there was little point..and torn clothing...but hey.

With storm clouds gathering in the east and a fresh wind blowing across the common we set off with hopes of finding a Superb Parrot but no such luck. As the distance wound down to the cache location plastic bags seemed to be blowing in the wind and we soon found where they where coming from.

A very nice stroll in the fresh air through the country side. The recent rains have sure greened everything up...

559. Ten finds in nearly 3 years - that's just silly. This cache deserves more visits than that. Most of the long time unfound caches are way out in the boondocks and require a full days hike. This one is a very gentle stroll across the commons. Today was still and sunny so the walk was very pleasant. (Of course the only other times I've been to this town were more for indoor pursuits.

Second on my Caching day trip! Was a little bit concerned about the distance to GZ, but all became clear once I had started the walk. One word: Aeroguard. Things can be a little smelly in an area along the way. Thanks for the history lesson, "How much do I love thee?". Made me feel very single. Thanks for the cache. ZZ

Great little drive to another tiny town. Lovely spot and a few people walking out on the commons.

Found cache quickly without a problem. Was good to try out the UTM, but it didn't seem to change anything anyway, except the data input.

We found it but not before we headed 1.9km N of sleepy hollow, sooned realised this was not the spot. Have we got something wrong? Yep I think so! Had another go but still no luck, so it was back to visit Jerry to get him to tell us the truth about the numbers!! Wow what a surprise Mr S'downer had added an extra digit just to get me going, so once everything was sorted and corrected we were off into the sunset. A lovely brisk walk over a few fences and it was just to obvious, lucky for us because I could not have stood anymore suspense!! It was a really interesting and enjoyable day. Thanks for a great cache

Found by Mary & David at 2000. Absolutely fabulous cache. We'd love to know more about Jerry, his life and family. We also loved gathering the clues and working in UTM for a change. The final walk to GZ and back as the sun set was very special. Clouds of cockatoos screeched from the treetops, and were joined by a few galahs, magpies and kookaburras. Took moose, left AMP badge and a karma card. Our thanks again to Bubble & Squeak.

After finding One Shrub Hill, I rode out here on the Mountain Bike, changed to UTM, found Jerry (nice), also found a whole swag of long lost relatives, did the maths, then, back to the gate and I rode all the way to the cache - no fences, no hassle whatsoever.

A whole swag of flies around, so just signed logbook & rode out of there, encountering some cattle grazing on the path on the way out. Then, a lonnnngggg ride back home.

2 geocaches for the day, 205km round trip on the MTB.
Cooeeee.

31-Oct-04
Our 2nd attempt at this cache, our first one was about 1.5 weeks ago at 7.30pm and it was a bit to dark to be trying to find Jerry's details!

Got Jerry's details with no problem and we were off to the cache. Fences on the way to the cache proved to be a bit troublesome but we did managed to get there in the end and collect yet another cache, even with Mr S having a trip and spraining his ankle. The way back to the car was much easier as we managed to find a fenceless route.

Baby S is now 2 days overdue but that didn't stop us from caching, hopefully the walk should help to encourage the babies arrival.

What a pair we must have looked on the way back along the track Mrs S waddling and Mr S limping!!!

UTM co-ords. Damn, I had to adjust my GPSr and learn these old fashioned numbers quickly. It certainly put me out of my comfort zone. But I needn't have worried. The first calculation got me within 5 metres of the target and the second was only 10 metres away - well within limits.

The Sun was setting as I walked off to the final location. Amazing red sky thanks to the smoke from Mount Stromlo fires. Managed to wind my way around fences and find the cache. Took a lizard and left behind a yabbie that I've never successfully reared. Maybe the next owner will have better luck.

17-Oct-04
We made a day out of this cache, exploring the locality after our find. Unfortunately we had added instead of subtracting at one point ...or the other way around. This led us to a friendly encounter with a guy telling us we were on private land. When we said we were geocaching and looking for something he asked what it was as he may be able to assist finding it. We rechecked our figures, saw where we'd made the error and headed off to a far more likely place. After doing the usual cache things we enjoyed pizza and coffee and an explore through town. A pleasant day. Thank you B and S. Took a car left a lizard and gold ball.

09-Oct-04
Thanks, Kiwijam, hope the Pizza was up to scratch! Sorry we didn't mention that the fences are all just surrounding areas being re-vegetated (they keep cattle out). No real need to climb them, just wend your way around.

Given that it was election day, I decided I would try my hand as speaker… Now here’s a place where I’ve never been, and probably wouldn’t ever have if it wasn’t for the cache. A very nice spot. Quite interesting too. Mind you, I wouldn’t like to try this cache at night! Afterwards I spent some time looking in the lovely little shops in town! Great! Took a Frank and left a Lizard. Thanks bubble & squeak for the great cache.

08-Oct-04
Ah, finally got my first virgin (cache).
We'd come out to Gundaroo a month ago, after reading Bubble & Squeak's log in City Gates 1 mentioning quality pizza. Only to find that the pizza restaurant is only open Fri 4pm - Sun 7:30pm. So we vowed we'd return when there was a cache out here, and lo it was sooner than expected.
The sun was already setting when we arrived, so we did most of it by GPS glow (don't know where the torch was this trip). Some fences easier than others to climb, some (it turned out) we could just have walked around. Nice hiding spot, an easy stroll through the great outdoors. Wasn't expecting a TB (it was logged after I got the details), but a nice surprise nonetheless.
And then the best part was our well-earned pizza on the way home Smile
Took TB & yoyo, left zipper bus.
Thanks B&S
