There was no where to rehide a cache at GZ so we disabled this one and created a new one in a different location.
Finally got to the site and yes, it definitely is not there. At least not where it was when we found it before. Did a wide search around and no luck.
I can check it out easy. Not far from me and I can take the dog for a walk there. Hopefully I get a chance tomorrow.
Visited today and could not locate the cache. Found a spot that looked like it had hidden a cache. A local cacher confirmed with us that we had looked in the correct spot. Looks like it has gone missing.
Nice, but very windy place. It was not easy to find the way, but easy to find the cache. TFTC, out: TB.

We had a nice hike in from the car park at the western end of the smelter. GeoKid Jr spent most of the trip on my shoulders.
This is a spectacularly beautiful piece of coastline and was a lovely way to spend the last bit of the day's light.
An easy find once we arrived, found it in the first place I looked while GeoKid Sr was still trying to find GZ.
No Swaps
Thanks again Team Crackers for a well positioned cache

I wasn't aware of the importance of this site until reading the cache page now. We didn't see any birds today but we enjouyed the magnificent views and the walk. The cache was found exposed on the ground also but Deano managed to tuck it away out of view.
Thanks Crackers, another very enjoyable place to visit.

2Dudez and Team Rubik's Week Long "2008 : A Cache Odyssey" trip to South Australia.
Great Views from the cache, which was a little exposed. We hope we have hidden it a little better for the next person.
Not many gannets today, maybe they all got blown away.
Rob made the find as i trailed behind taking photos of the views.
Thought I had lost my GPS, but it turned out to be on the dashboard..... phew!

Found today during a quick visit to Portland on the way from Mt Gambier to Ballarat...yes, it's not the most direct route, but we hadn't been to Portland before. We will be back.
Loved the short walk and great oceans views.
Took: Teddy Watch
Left: Flashing glow ball.
Signed the log.

I've done about half of the GSSW (not this bit though). Great coastal views here and the cache was found easily enough in a clever little spot. When I got there I thought "where.." and now I know. Thanks again Team Crackers.
found it @ 1318

yay i found it! the second one of the day. beatiful view but very cold and windy with lots of flies. found a geocoin and put in an inflateable pillow.[^]
On a holiday in Mt Gambier we took a drive up here to see the Gannet colony, Sierra just loves these birds. Sierra ended up getting to go behind the gates as a care taker of the guard dogs was there during our visit, whilst Kilo had had enough of the flies.

Another one that Robmc had done before so he drove to the nearby carpark and left me to it so to speak. I found the cache pretty much by accidently kicking it out of its hiding place. Watched a boat out in the sea making it's way back into port. Another nice spot with great views.
Thanks again Team Crackers.
Thanks again Team Crackers.
As we pulled up we were approached by a bloke that asked us if we would mind not going near the gannets as they were conducting a scientific observation. No probs, we were heading another way... shhhhh.
This is the beauty of Geocaching...taking you to places you never knew of. Pity it was one of the windiest days ever !
The views are just spectacular, well worth the effort.

Found on a beautiful sunny day, with little breeze, while visiting from Tassie. You are so right - nature and industry can definitely co-exist, given the right ingredients! Lots (thousands!) of happy gannets to be seen today.
Thankyou Team Crackers.
Thankyou Team Crackers.
Just finding the road in was a challenge. A really bumpy road in as it turned out
But the views and the wildlife makes it all worth while.
Plenty of gannet action on the cold ocean breeze today
TFTC and tour of this great location.

I thought I'd left those sort of tracks behind in the High Country - drove in one way & out the other.
Hard to find the road in, but the destination was worth it. Cache was easily found, we are looking to do the great south west walk now!
Great spot. My brother works near by and told me abit more about the spot.
This cache introduced him and his family to the sport and they are talking about getting a GPS and joining the hunt.

Well, Crackers, I think you've just sealed our geocaching addiction - we rode our bikes from Portland, saw two echidnas and the glassiest ocean south of the equator. Good easy find and quite a treasure trove. Left a bag of T's (!?) and took a small porsche ... fair trade.
this 'track' could do with some attention but certainly wirth the drive great views just watch for the bullets nearby?. How much can you stuff in a 1 liter container (my size tens actually found this one) made some swops (geokid

Another stunning bit of coast on a wonderful winters afternoon. I will walk this section of the GSWWT one day. Thanks team crackers for showing me this spot.
First find, a nice easy one at the crack of dawn on a grey cloudy day. TNLN. Very peaceful spot. The Gannet colony is interesting too - was surprised to see from the sign that the nesting site is quite a recent thing. On my last visit down this way they wouldn't have been there!
Found at midday on a wet and windy winter day. The cache contents were quite keen to blow away, but it did mean the gannets were out soaring. Haven't seen gannets this close since our holiday in Shetland last year. The weather was rather reminiscent of Shetland too!

Found 14:10. 6th of 9 FFTD. Good hide for such a 'big' cache under such a small bush. TNLNSL. TFTC.
Found at 15:30. A fun drive in - we took the pretty rough road in, and found the better road out. A surprisingly beautiful spot, despite the neighbourhood.
Wasn't too windy here today but a bit of a chill in the air. Had been nearby checking out the surf conditions on one of the other tracks. Took Simpsons fig., left Crab, SL.
Very blowy, had to hold the cache down to sign it. Makes for spectacular wave formations.
A short walk to view the gannet rookery (fortunately the wind was blowing in the other direction). Those birds sure like high density living.
Took: Shark, Left: Frog (sea frog)
Thanks, Robmc.

Our second for the day. Eastward from the carpark is a raised platform for viewing the gannets. Behind this platform is an even higher structure. Timber and woodchip it seems. We'd love to know what this was or is for. Ideas anyone [?]
Moving on.. ...found the cache. Starting to get cold and windy now. Took a toy car and left a brave little soldier with a pink face.

This cache nearly had us changing profession, as was very tricky without any sort of geographical map. The stroll to the cache was very pleasant. Took little time to find - but the fun was getting there!!

Found TB Hiker Macsmurf in cache today, as was only placed here yesterday. I took a gamble (assumption he had come westerly along the coast) and grabbed the TB to head for South Australia for some more adventures. I hope that the TB gets back to GSWW (great South West Walk) in its travels at a later date. Still there is a TB Finding my "Bearings" in this cache that is heading in an easterly direction
On our bi-annual maintenance visit we found the cache safe and sound in it’s original position.
We dropped off TB Hiker Smurf as he want’s to see the trails of the world and what better one than the Great Southern Walk

We dropped Hiker Mcsmurf off here. He wanted to visit great hiking trails of the world and as this is part of the Great South West Walk which is 250k long with some spectacular scenery this was a logical spot for him. Hiker McSmurf can see Australias only mainland Gannet colony from his resting place.
Found on 02/02/06 @ 1548 AEDT. No sign of seeing any wetting of nests today - although GZ is quite a distance away . The cache was easily found and I sat back and enjoyed the views while writing the log

The coordinates were dead on! The cache was nicely hidden, and we found it just before we were about ready to throw out our old GPS and get one of the newer, fancier models. Think how much money we saved!
Left Bob the lobster in the cache. He likes being nice and close to the sea again.
Sorry we couldn't log this earlier, but we had to get home to our computer first. And that took two full days!

Quick in and out and then walked over to the Gannet Point. Electric fence! they really want you to stay out of the nesting area. TNLN. Cache in good condition.
What kind of a smelter is this anyway?
Thanks for showing us this area, Chris & Renate from Barrie, Ontario, Canada

Fifth of 13 Portland area caches in my assault on the far west. I parked at the nearest car park and headed off along the cliffs. The wind was blowing a gale, and the surf was up. There were even surfers braving the cold and the rocks (darn fool kids! ). Despite the wind, the sun was out, and it was a great day. Gannets from the nearby rookery were gliding along the wave line, and diving for fish, as gannets are wont to do. Speaking of which, the first page of the log book indicates that the cache was to be called "Gannet Rookery"--was this a 'booby' of some sort? [:o)] The good pyrotechnicians must've had a change of heart. I found the cache at 1510. Thanks to Team Crackers for the cache.

Fantastic views over the sea, but no whales in sight today unfortunately. Great to see that nature can still exist so close to industry.

Really enjoyed the views at this one. Calm and balmy not what you would expect in June. Left the caravan back in the Portland CP on this occasion but would have been a good spot to stop. Left TB seeing there is a tram in town and took gecko. thanks Team Crackers.
Beautiful walk along the cliffs, very nice indeed.
Easy find once I got close, took a shark and left a gecko. Thanks Crackers.

We had a mini conference as to whether we should unhitch the van and drive down the track. After some deliberation, we decided that there was a driveable track to the cache, which there was. This was quite an intersting spot as we witnessed thousands of gannets on the point and the rocks. Thanks Team Crackers for showing us this spot. Took: Bottle opener, Left: Thermometer.
Found by Ray and Maya at 7:02PM on the 19th of Jan. An easy find and a nice venue to write the log by. The rocks of the Gannet rookeries were white with birds. TNLN. Thanks from The Nomads.
I was able to navigate us in quite close to this one before braving he winds and the flies on foot. Then it was up to Mrs STABILO to show us the booty with her first ever find.
Stayed for just long enough to puzzle over the bird covered headland to the east of the cache before heading off for the Enchanted Forest.

A new day on our expedition and this cache was on my morning list. After driving into town and looking at the tourist information a likely location was identified and we set off in search of our prize. Luck was with us as we took several roads and ended up in a carpark almost adjacent to the cache. This was a bonus as the weather had not improved and it was still overcast and windy. I hastily searched for the cache and readliy found it with my patented prodding device. Marked the log and swapped some sharks for some sharks. Thanks for the view it is truely different to see such industrialisation and nature so close.
Found this one at 5:50 after eventually finding the right way in. A nice easy find in such a lovely location. No exchange was made. Thanks again, Team Crackers, for the cache and the wonderful views.
Drove the swedish froggomobile down a very rough side track to within 400m. A suitable distance for Sallymander to stride out in her most unsuitable slingbacks.
Little did we know we could have come the other more comfortable route.
Amazed by the masses of gannets on the nearby headland and rocks. Incredible. Hitchcock would have been delighted.

Nice easy find for my first one and only 4 ks from home. Had to wait until the audience left the nearby carpark so as not to arouse suspicion. This is a popular after work walking track so best visited during the day.

Found at about 6:20 pm. A very sneaky little hiding spot. A quick find nevertheless after an enjoyable caching afternoon. We didn't get to loook at the colony, but as Portland is only an hour from home, we'll be back.

Found by Mary & David at 1430. Heading back to Melbourne via Mt Gambier after a few days in Adelaide, so this new cache was a very nice surprise and a welcome stop. We checked out the excellent local bakery on the way through town. Mary was particularly interested in such outstanding natural areas that are specifically wheelchair-friendly. Also of note are some well-adapted prostrate white tea tree. Lovely sunshine and the water below was spectacular. Took lobster, left shark bottle opener. Continued the short distance to see the noisy gannets. You could hardly see the ground for the birds. Some local school children and their teachers on an excursion there were just leaving. They apologised and said if we had been 10 minutes earlier we could have joined them going through the locked gates to a closer vantage point, as they had a key. Our thanks for a fascinating visit to Team Crackers.
