Not sure the second part of the hint is relevant anymore as the end of track marker is now about 400 - 500 mtrs further west of the cache location. A few leeches welcomed us, Cache was easy enough the find but the log book was saturated so didn't even attempt to sign it. Took photos and will send to CO for logging verification.

This area is kinda my back yard and only ever cached up here once in the snow many years ago so the opportunity arose to spend a day up in the hills to do some Multis and puzzles and this cache was part of the adventure

A new Geo obsession is trying to find the Golden oldies, so this time around I went for an extended walk to locate this cache.

Beautiful location and fun to hunt around all the massive boulders

05-Jun-22
We had walked up the AAWT (Australian Alps Walking Track) from the Thomson Valley Road to tick off another section of this amazing 650km walk but geocaching was also on our mind. The Blind Side had completed a challenge cache that was not far from here so after we signed that log we headed a little further down the track to grab this one. A quick find at GZ. The trees here are truly stunning, reminding me of the redwoods back home. Nice hide TFTC

Was in the area today to complete a section of the Australian Alps Walking Track from Thomson Valley Road to Mt Erica / Mushroom Rocks Car Park. This cache was in the vicinity so this gave me the perfect opportunity to grab it. A quick find once at gz. Nice hide, perfect spot which included snow today. TFTC

Amazing trees.

Out for a walk to Talbot hut ruin decided to get this one. What amazing trees, walked through one recently fallen out was mammoth

07-Feb-22
It was an early start at camp today. Up at 7am and packed up by 7:30 (after a quick swim in the Mitchell river). I then had to high tail it 2.5hrs across Gippsland to make it to the chimney event.

A lovely old cache along a nice peaceful track. Time to descent the mountain now!

Thanks Biggles Bear for placing this gamepiece in the wild for us to find.

07-Feb-22
A great day for exploring the mountain, including trads, earthcaches, multis and an event.
Even though our legs were like jelly after the hike, we could hardly leave the area without first finding this oldie.
Thanks for bringing us here today by placing this cache, Biggles Bear

That's me King of the mountain.
Awesome place!!

06-Feb-22
Although we were tired after a big walk to Mt Erica, this final walk in the forest was well worth the extra effort. The trees and ferns were amazing! Thanks so much for bringing us to this part of the forest walk.

06-Feb-22
Lovely day for a walk, so I set off to attend the Chat by the Chimney event at Mt Erica.
Met SteMicMitSar at the first cache and walked and cached with him.
We completed all the caches on the way up to the event (we were only a little late!)
Walked a few more of the Abandoned-Railway series in the afternoon.

A nice warm up walk before setting off to the event. The path is in good condition, as it the cache.
Thanks, Robmc.

*Found on the 6 Feb 2022 @ 9:47 am.*
*Cache find # 12498.*

After meeting up with Robmc at the challenge cache and finding that one along the trail to this cache, we headed up to this one next even though Rob had already found it a little earlier.
So once we reached the GZ area I was able to head straight to where the cache is and make a quick find.
Another first 500 cache ticked off of the list.

**Thanks to Biggles Bear for placing this cache.**

06-Feb-22
I didn't think that I would make it to this cache as after attending the nearby event, my legs had jellified and definitely were in a co-operative mood. Nonetheless, there was no way that we could leave such an oldie without signing it. Thanks for placing this cache and maintaining it for so long.

After climbing to Mt Talbot and back, we decided to stop here and check out the magnificent mountain ash.
An easy walk to view these towering trees although the tops have blown out on most of them.
The cache was found quickly once we got to GZ

Nah, didn't find it today. I left Mrs B with the car while I set out along the very wet path to the GZ but after searching around the "King on the Mountain" I had to call it quits as I wasn't really wearing the correct footwear to scramble through and over the deep tree litter. My thongs were just not up to the task! Apart from that obvious limitation, the rain had started falling again, the light was rapidly fading and more importantly I was keen to get to the Erica Pub for a hot-rock eye fillet steak washed down with a couple of beers! Woo hoo, there's a silver lining in every dark cloud!

21-Mar-21
Wow very impressive! As nature does, she has rearranged a couple of the kings and they are now resting horizontally along the path. If it wasn’t for a cache being there I would probably have turned back from this lovely walk. However I managed to conquer these “mountains” which was no easy feat for me. One trunk laying on its side was nearly the same height as me with very wet smooth bark, very little to crasp on to and no way under or around it
I’d come this far so couldn’t give up and somehow got over, and luckily back after finding the cache and signing the log. Photos of these king of the Mountains do not do them justice. You really have to see them up close and personal. Hopefully you won’t get too up-close and personal with the leeches! I gave a couple a damm good feed!! TFTC it is still in good condition.

05-Jul-20
Return visit to find this cache. Track has recently had some work done on it and the “end of track” sign seems to not be at this point. I recall seeing it last time we were here, but didn’t walk up any further today as snow beckons...
Great old trees to see and some “tram line” cuttings here.
Log book seems a bit damp.

This trail is overgrown and trees have come down along it - it's no longer a 1.5 terrain! It was fun crawling over the branches but the blackberries weren't that fun! I even had to remove a leech! Nasty. The overgrown section at the end was amazing - favourite point added! Thanks for the cache Biggles Bear.

Tftc. A lot of debris on the track from past and yesterday's high winds. Nice even grade of course along this old tramway. Spring time sees lots of budding fern shoots which are nicely photogenic.

18-Feb-18
With the wife running with her running crew from Pakenham to Oakleigh stopping at every train station on their myki run, I had the morning to myself. Knowing some FTF were available on Mt Erica it was an easy choice for the destination.

Well my map says there is a road here, and with a cache here that hints that there is a trail at least. I would beg to differ that neither exist. In most parts the only sign that there is a trail, is that the fern and blackberries are slightly smaller than everywhere else. I would estimate that this time next year the path will be completely gone. So I can honestly say I was surprised when I found a wooden seat at one point of 'the trail'. The "End of Track" sign was only another 5 meters but I couldn't see it from the seat.

Absolutely lovely huge tree that had almost completely devoured the cache, and after almost 10 minutes some plastic was finally seen under a lot of tree debris. May have been a D2/T1.5 when released certainly not now. Wink
The next cacher might need to take a machete for the blackberries.
Thanks for the cache Biggles Bear

PS. Wow, over a year of unlove, and doubt anyone has been down this trail since Poiter H

I teamed up with SuziBound for an Australia Day cache bush bash on the slopes of Mt Erica.

After doing the 1000+ elevation challenge cache nearby we ventured further down the overgrown track to find this cache.

Nature has begun reclaiming parts of the track, but it made for a fun walk to GZ. We scrambled over a couple of fallen trees, but the path is still clearly visible to follow. What a peaceful location and such two magnificent old trees at GZ.
Thanks for the cache.

15/01/2017 3:04:00 PM - Today I teamed up with my caching friend Square_pegs and headed out this way for some exploring and to find this cache. We couldn't have asked for a better day for it! If it wasn't for caching I'd never know nor experience places like this. The walk along the largely overgrown trail was good fun being surrounded by massive ancient trees nestled amongst the huge boulders with the sound of birds filling the air. This place is something special. As we arrived at GZ we wondered how many people actually follow the trail to here? The cache was quickly found and logging completed....I like finding these 'older' hides.

Thanks Biggles Bear Smile Cache is good condition and has spot on co-ordinates.

Trees had fallen across the track at various points making it more arduous and difficult than it otherwise should have been.

Thanks Biggles Bear.

A long weekend off and so many caches to find.
On a road trip, finding some cache with D@GEO.

The path is over grown, and you have to climb over some trees.
Also watch out for the black berries.

Just all the fun of finding caches in the bush.

The container & log book is in great condition
Thanks for the hide Biggles Bear

Fluked this one! Came with friends and didn't checked the caches first. Arrived at the end of the trail and saw a likely tree for caching and thought I'd check just in case and...boom! An unexpected geocache bonus! Cache in good condition, thanks.

Found @09:10 #3604
Was in the region yesterday and realized I had missed this one so on before heading back to Melbourne as the weather was getting worse stop by this one for a very pleasant walk to GZ. Impressive tress at this location. The fallen trees mention were easily passed, but were a little slippery. Thanks for bringing me here.

Tree fallen over. Canopy of the tree is over the path 90 m from GZ. Could not get through.

12-Apr-14
The Tree was down when I did cache maintenance, and was easily passed. This is not a cache maintenance issue.

12-Apr-14
Out with Nanny&PoppyWhykes we walked in the rain in this beautiful rainforest, a few giant rocks and big fallen trees covered in moss. We came within 90m GZ and the path was blocked with a large amount of fallen trees and branches so would not reach GZ so we got back to the car feeling like drown rats and covered in leaches and a bit dissappointed Sad

29-Mar-14
Removed damp log and swaps, dried cache and installed new log book in zip lock bag.

10-Mar-14
Container was found very damp and water logged. Too much dirt left in the clip of this clip-top container has rendered it not water proof. Log was still signable but only just, with a Niro. Great spot though. A few of the majestic trees have fallen across the path, which makes it quite difficult to get past. After this the path is a bit over-grown, but still passable. Thanks so much for the cache!

Found at 6.45 whilst camping during an outdoor ed program, so hard being paid to cache. Had been here a number of years ago, long before i got into geocaching. Magnificent kings, love this forest. Told kids all about the forest later on. Thanks for bringing me back here. BWBandit

Find # 2550
Date 17th Jan 2013
Time 5:06 PM

Well, I had been given approval for five days of annual leave, so I had to make a decision on what to do with it. I had noticed the Abandoned Railway series published late last year, so I decided to head towards Moondarra State park and then Mount Baw Baw for four or five days.

When I read the name of this cache, I expected something different. I was getting tired after a big day, so decided this would be the last one for day 2. I was pleasantly surprised that the walk from the car park to GZ was fairly flat, an easy going walk. Once at GZ, the GPSr had me about 7 metres away, but after checking the hint, the cache was soon found.

Thanks to Biggles Bear for the cache. TNLN.

Log book a bit damp, could do with a replacement soon.

Arriving at GZ the sign stated the obvious: This track ends in the middle of nowhere and is pretty useless Very Happy well maybe not: It leads to a cache and I really enjoyed the walk after the long drive from Melbourne.

#276 Found at 9.35am. The sun was shining brightly this morning albeit a little brisk but such a lovely day to do a couple of walks. We didn't know what to expect going to this cache but we were soon ooohing and arhhing over the local flora. It is such a beautiful walk and it was so quiet with the exception of the birds. Paid hommage to this monarch before locating the cache although the GPSR was behaving very badly so it was put away. Dad soon had the cache in hand.

Took: Ball
Left: Purple Rock

TFTC - we loved this place Big Grin

Rode up to the carpark on the gravel road. Took the walk into meet the King. He was not in a good mood today and would not reveal the treasure. I'll just have to ride back up this way another day. Such a shame. Thanks BB for placing this cache.

20-Jan-10
Another great spot we haven't been before. We stopped at the LHS carpark and had to check out the 'tent decks'. I've seen them in other places but never around this part of the world. We decided to throw the gaiters on for this walk as the path looked a bit overgrown and the weather was warming up. It ended up being an uneventful walk to the end. After searching for 5-10 minutes Mrs E had the cache in hand. We swapped an eraser and ball for a GC cloth patch, replaced the cache and walked back to the car.
(About 3hrs later Master E noticed his leg - dried blood but no injury - seems he got 'leached' somewhere along the trail!)
TFTH - Elmer.

Found at 1310 hours, I bowed before the king and found the treasure he held in waiting.
Did take me some time to realise that without bowing to the king.
There was no-way he was giving up the treasure chest.

An easy find without the use of the GPS... well not today at least. Actualy I probably could have FTFed this one in 05 but rather than log it then I just checked to see whos name was in the book already. No name was found back then. Well my log is now in the bookWink.

Thanks Biggles Bear

Found on our way back down from a walk in the snow on Mt Erica. Took a GeoCoin and left a monster as an offering to the King. Thanks to Biggles Bear for the cache and taking us into this magnificant forest.

08-Mar-09
We hiked to the end of the track and admired the king and had a good look around but all to no avail. It was the end of quite a long day and one of our trio was quite tired so we called it quits after about 20min of searching. Thankfully it was a lovely walk in so we weren't too disappointed.

06-Dec-08
Found at 1110. After completing 'Atomic Rocks', this one was a nice short walk among some fantastic old specimens. The kings looked great as I arrived to GZ, and the cache was located after a short search. Great location.

Thanks BB.

1006 re-logging due to name change

04-Sep-08
1006 Nice little walk both times. I went and bowed to the king but it didn't work so I genuflected and that didn't work either. I then prostrated myself but all to no avail. Seeing there had been major works in the area (and storms) I then went back to the truck and prepared a little something which I returned to the ent. All's well that ends well. TF er, the cache?

12-May-08
Well after getting the FTF at Atomic Rocks stopped to do this one. Halfway along the walking track a large tree has fallen blocking the track but that was alright managed to scramble over the tree and continue onto GZ. Arrived at GZ searched around used the clue searched some more but no cache was found today.

24-Jun-07
Found at 08:50. I was on my way to do Ski Patrol at Mt St Gwinear and thought I would have a go at this one. As I approached the carpark I couldn't get there because of the snow and ice. I was not going to fit chains for the short distance I had to drive so I left my car in the middle of the intersection (See photo) and walked. The electronic guidance system was not being any help. I approached the King and paid him respect and while I was bowing at his feet, he reveled his hidden treasure to me. I thanked him, replaced his treasure and returned to the car very happy that I had met this king.
I made no swaps today and he treasure chest is in good condition and dry. It was the coldest cache I have done (See more photos
Thanks

Found at 2.50pm GAFF1. The bridge was being repaired so we had a 4.5km return trip walk to do this cache. We could have left it for another day, but we had done that on 2 previous occasions already. We thought that there was going to be a spectacular view across the valley when we got to the end of the track and with the day being so perfect a photo from that height would have been impressive. Thanks BB tn/ln.

At the road junction we were greeted by a choice and decided to stop by for this cache.
After a pleasant walk we arrived at the end of the track and in a couple of minutes we had the cache.
Many thanks to Biggles Bear for a cache in a location worth exploring more, we will be certain to visit this area again and walk around it with a bit more time.
Taken torch – Left Beanie key ring.

After doing another nearby cache, I quickly headed for this one. The walk was short but enjoyable. The area is fantastic. I took a Mondo Man and left a lion in its place. Thanks for showing me such a wonderful place and also for the cache.

Well what can i say, a nice short walk with some great trees and plenty of bird life. This is a cache that you dont need a GPS for as i had no signal i put it in my pocket and went caching. nice easy find.thanks for the drive.

13-Apr-05
Found by Mary & david at 1220. Just a beautiful walk in through superb vegetation so unlike anything closer to home. Many bird calls kept us company. Very impressed with the kings of the mountain. Quite a few stumps along the way with holes where the old-time loggers placed their steps. Glad they didn't take them all. Took Aqua Sniper puzzle, left torch. Also left TB 'Aussie Jack' to relax at this magical green oasis after his antics in Melbourne. Our thanks again to Biggles Bear.

An easy First to Find by chick 1 Big Grin, who found on her own [8)], within about 1-2 minutes. A lovely forest, and a pleasant walk, we saw & heard lyrebirds, as well as many other species of bird life on this gentle stroll. It's amazing how mighty a king can become when his kingdom is not invaded. Thanks Biggles Bear, this really is a lovely part of the world.
