Been a long time between visits to Dunedin. I wasnt able to do the MEGA there but managed to get things together and come down from Auckland for 5 days and 4 nights after the fact. On my own this visit, usually come with others, so rather quiet on my own this time around. Ive rented a small but great white Toyota Yaris and intend to get as many caches as I can. Day 4 of my adventure. About to start shortly a power trail down by the airport, will be my best day of caching at the end of the day. A good hint got me there, no sign of any padlock that I could see.
joOn a road trip together with -moge-; across New Zealand; from Cape Reinga to Stewart Island; up, down, right, left ... So much to see, so much to experience. So many great, and sometimes old, cans! But I can hardly keep up with the logging. Far too exhausted from all the experiences. I am sorry that it will now be a standardized log for some founds.
Hello dossman,Another day, another Cache.Together with Dr Donna travelling through New Zealand. We arrived at Auckland Airport and made our way up north. After visiting Cape Reinga we went on our way South to reach Stewart Island with stops in many different Citys all over the country. Of course we have an open eye for nice Caches but take what we can get. Today we came across your Cache "Hole E Wellington (Otago)" and signed the logbook with our names or took pictures for Virtuals and Earthcaches. Its great how many nice spots we are able to discover through our journey and how many of them we only See because of Geocaching! Thanks for bringing us to this place and takeing care for the geocache. Liebe Gre und vielen Dank fr die Hege und Pflege deines Traditional Cache! -moge-#############Der Cache "Hole E Wellington (Otago)" von "dossman" war fr mich Cache 6687. Lots of favourite points meant that I was keen to get this cache today and my way through to Dunedin. Id heard of the bra fence but the shoe fence is one is not yet heard of.Jumping out of the car I noted something straight away that matched with the hint. From there it was a quick find. I added my name to the logbook and replaced as found. Thanks for the fun hide at a great location ??
#842 10:03AMThis cache took me longer than it should to find. The inside was damp but log dry as bone. Thanks for placing this cache dossman
A plan was hatched quite a while ago when the Dunedin Mega was announced to come over to the South Island again.I have only been to New Zealand twice before and I loved the South Island. So a chance to come back for a Mega was a no brainer for me.Everything was booked and I flew in last Saturday week after a bit of a delay. So after a great few days at Mega central in Dunedin its time to say goodbye. So Day 10 of my Mega NZ trip begins and Im on my own again and so its time to head South to Invercargill which is my next stop for a couple of days. Well I have seen bra and shorts fences, a couple of boot trees in my travels but never a boot fence.I some how managed to park practically opposite GZ by fluke and managed a quick find of course after a couple of happy snaps. Thanks dossman TFTC.
CaptainVimes and I have crossed the pond to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks.Who doesn't love a novelty. And an old cache with heaps of favourites to boot. Pun intended. Thanks dossman and happy caching
Day 374 of trying to save the city from itself. Youd think being Captain of the Watch would come with perks, but no. It comes with paperwork and a constant headache, mostly in the shape of Carrots optimism. Now, about boots. You see, the rich get to buy boots that last forever. A pair of fifty-dollar boots lasts for years, while a poor sod like me buys twenty-dollar boots that fall apart every six months. Over time, the rich bloke spends fifty dollars once, while I spend sixty and have wet feet. Every. Damn. Time. Its a vicious circle, really. The poor stay poor, the rich stay rich, and I get trench foot. I'd file a complaint, but the only one listening is Nobby, and I suspect hes secretly rich, what with how he avoids work so successfully. If I could just get through one day without soggy socks, I might believe theres hope for humanity. But lets face itthere isnt.
Out and about enjoying the gems of our country ??Here enjoying our first ever Mega, in Dunedin. Meeting lots of people, some are familiar. Getting out and discovering new places and putting more smilies ???? on my map.Home time after an awesome weekend in Dunedin. Great time was had, now back to reality ?? Found quickly, thanks to the hints. This fence has always caught my eye when passing. TFTC
Very cool cache location. Gets a Fav point from me.Here for the 2024 Mega with a group from Auckland. Sorry for the generic logs. Thank you to all the cache owners who placed the caches to support my addiction. Most logs signed as SEAC.
Day 3 of our mega trip and today was the day to hit the logging trail and some extras of course! After finishing those we wandered in the general direction of our home for the weekend, caching along here.Thank goodness we spotted the required spot very quickly! The hiding item could do with a little hole to drain the water out.we did our best with the way its tied on though. Log signed, some pics taken and we were on our way! Thanks for the cache - the spot deserves a fav point! Signed SEAC (South East Auckland Crew)
Here in the land of the king white cloud to attend the mega in Dunedin. Many thanks to all those involved in the organisation! Today we targeted some of the DT puzzles plus a few unusual caches as extras. Much better weather and some scary roads . Travelling and caching as a group Qld+1. What a fabulous cache!
We are in Dunedin for the Mega and this is day 3 of our trip. We planned to get numbers today so headed to the series down this way. All logs signed with SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) {unless otherwise required int he cache} as there are 5 caching names in the group; stik-a-crane, unclesam, NZTravellers, Keylev and us. A lot of fun was had, lots of laugh and memories made with friends.
Day 3 in New Zealand Have attended the mega site now picking up D/Ts. Made it to this one and made the find with the QLD+1 crew of Paul, Glenda, Allan, Amanda, Mick, Gloria and myself Following the favourite points led us here for a very quick find for Snickers My first overseas trip ever started off eventful with my tree fishing pole joining me in Brisbane after deciding not to travel on my flight. Virgin staff made up for their boo boo, so my adventure could continue stress free but making for a long day Day 1 involved my first FTF in another country, another webcam under my belt, a few virtuals and a couple of favourites. Day 2 heading south down the island to find a few magic caches ending up with a CiTO which really finished us off. Thanks dossman for placing this Traditional for me to convert into a smilie
Day 5 of our NZ mega mega holiday with The_Tritonz: Te Anau to Dunedin. After spending yesterday enjoying the sights of Milford Sound and Te Anau, it was time to pack the car and head towards Dunedin for the Mega Event this weekend. A quick stopover here, thanks to the icy cold rain. Spotted the hide and added another small logbook. TFTC dossman
We set off from Te Anau to head for the Dunedin Mega with the weather not looking crash hot in the great company of chooknchunk collecting a few finds along the way.Found the cache easily enough and chooknchunk replaced the full logbook. Thanks dossman for the placement.
We are coming back to Dunedin after great day caching with friends. Had to stop here. Great cache title and hide. Some have sure been here for a while. Thanks for this cache dossman.
#4061 Today is day 24 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm driving the scenery route from Invercargill to Dunedin for [Geo Toroa (Dunedin, NZ)](https://coord.info/GCA7ZHD), the Mega this weekend and finding geocaches along the way. Found it! Looks like these types of fences are trend. I visited the bra fence a couple of days ago go and now the shoe fence. dossman, thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 24, 2024 @ 19:26:16[GCP5HY] Hole E Wellington (Otago) was a D1.0/T1.0 Small Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
Really nice place to have a short stop Thanks for showing! (The logbook is full and the container has cracks and a hole :/)
Kids loved this one. I think they were expecting a whole lotta wellys to choose from and we're pleasantly surprised to have a straightforward find! TFTC
Today our way was leading us from Te Anau to Dunedin. Right in the middle is Gore, one of the reasons we stopped here, but of course also the number of caches in the city centre. After a coffee we made our round, the plan: find 5 different cache types in Gore to achieve a new record for different types in one day.this failed as we passed the right entrance to the letterbox cache and decided to move ahead as we had also one of the 2000 caches on our agenda for today. Sometimes you need to do compromises and even 4 cache types is a new all time high (3 previously). But first things first. We took a look at the big fish and quickly found the required information.Next stop was the guitar. For the virtual and also the Lab Cache. Next stop clock tower. Here we also got all information checked for the puzzle cache. We then followed the lab cache to the gardens and the sheep and finished it ( our first Lab catchet ever! ) Unfortunately the tradi at the sheep was not there anymore, so no tradi for us in Gore today.Afterwards we took off in direction of Dunedin and just as I said to my girlfriend that I need to check the location of the next target cache on the map we passed a long line with abandoned shoes.shit, this must have been the cache I was looking forso another km driving until I could stop, check the map and turn around. Here I used the hint to find the right shoe. Otherwise it would surely take much more time, which I wanted to invest in my first 2000 cache. So off we go to look for GCB1, based on description the way into the woods was found easily and while I was still going towards the cords on my GPS, my partner said, I guess I found it. We signed our GC name and went into a city for an ice cream. Yes it was nearly 18 degrees on this winter day in Dunedin Unbelievable. It was a fantastic caching day with some new achievements on my stats. Thanks to all cache owners who put a lot of efforts into their caches and are maintaining them for so long time.Sorry for the summary log, but it was a busy caching day and I tried to mention all caches which we found along.Nice location, when I saw the cache on the map yesterday I wanted to find it and even turned around after we passed through firstly.TFTC
Dad (GrahameCookie) needs some caches with high Faves so we swung by this one on our way through on the last few days of our holiday! Thanks to a previous comment I spotted this one from the car! I jumped out n grabbed the cache pen in hand to sign! Sadly all log pages and added pages back n front have been signed!! We added in a fresh log page! But hopefully a new book can be replaced soon! Being on holiday we dont have our regular stash of replacements unfortunately! Swapped some nerdy Swag for the Disney Genie Token (made me tear up when I spotted it inside! Rip Robin )TFTC
Left a sheet of waterproof paper for an extra log sheet, as the book was full.1335, Monday, thanks.
Saw all the favorites points and thought this would be a fun one to grab - did not disappoint, grabbed travel bug, will take to Dunedin. TFTC
Since this cache had so many favorite points, and I was in the area, I drove over after finding a few others. It became very clear as I approached why this one was so popular. The cache didn't jump out at me, so I had to search carefully before I spotted the right one. TFTC.
Haha this was a treat and we did resort to the hint to finish the task. Cache is safe and dry TFTC
I was knackered after 7 hours on the motorbike but decided it was worth it to ride the 2km in the wrong direction from Waihola to this cache. A quick and easy find at a cool spot just off the main drag. Well worth the double back TFTC
We missed the North Island version of this, so coming across this one was a bonus. Hint is critical in knowing which one to look in. Had lunch at the nearby parking lot, looking out at the black swans.
Cesta je fakt moc pkn a myslm, e ped i tu slavnou australskou Great Ocean Road. Today I drove from Dunedin to Invercargill and chose the Southern Scenic Road. And I did well. Beautiful landscape and lots of attractions around. The morning was beautiful, then showers and strong winds came, but I still went on three shorter walks to the lighthouse, to the waterfall and on the beach to the petrified trees. I found 20 caches on the way and I really enjoyed the day. Thanks to everyone for their caches and greetings from the Czech Republic. Funny cache, send a FP.
Waitangi Day road trip to Waihola. Kids loved this feature. Sadly the snail trackable was missing from the cache so we were unable to help it along its travels. Thanks
What a lovely Cache! And a interesting fence idea!Thank you!Found with Xandixxx!Greetings from Bremen/ Germany Millefolia
Day trip with Mrs Hazzer and Downsouthinv. Great day to get out and see more of our country.I was the last one of the team to sign this one!
16/9/2023 Find #6524Day 8 of the Fangsoki/1MinnieMoo New Zealand South Island adventure. We were on our way now from Dunedin to Invercargill, with a few stops in between.Pulling up I wondered how long it might take to find this one, especially with the (not-so) helpful commentary I was receiving from Fangsoki. The cows were my friends however, coming over to offer their help. And soon enough I found what I was after. Thank you cows! And thanks for the cache dossman.
1MinnieMoo and I pulled up for this one next. Yes - hmmm. i have seen similar to Australia - but not so... grand.1MinnieMoo finally found the beast and we signed the log and we were on our way. An excellent little place for a cache. TFTC dossman
Dropped off a travel snail (Geocoin). And left a little signature swag item while I was at it.
Out specifically to get some more local caches today. Quick find - happened to park up just right beside it! Second swaggable cache today that was mostly full of trash - why do that?! sad - so gave it a clean out and left a little treasure - AA. At the end of this little road I found an entrance onto the cycleway so took a walk along the lakefront as far as I could go before the track ran out - it's still under construction - the boardwalk part of it looks great. Tftc.
Came all the way from Vancouver BC Canada to find this cache, lol. Thanks for being part of the adventure!
Having read the description I wasn’t sure what I’d find here, it made me smile. Easy find with the hints, log damp but managed to sign it. TFTC
Day 4 on our holiday in New Zealand. On the way from Te Anau to Queenstown over Dunedin, we also visited this traditional cache, found it, and signed the logbook.

98 Favourites, wow, I had to stop and complete this cache enroute to Dunedin. Thanks to the hints a quick find, and with the pre- warning of a full log, I arrived armed with a replacement log sheet. Certainly deserves another Favourite. TFTC dossman.
First time I have stopped here. A quick find, TFTC. The logbook is completely full. Perhaps the CO or next person could add a new logbook.
Great to get an older cache thank you.
Great to get an older cache thank you.
Found on the way to Curio Bay. I am visiting from Denver, Colorado, and enjoying a long holiday visiting both South and North Islands. This was an entertaining site. TFTC!
On the way to Dunedin, we decided to stop here. It is a bit to early for us to add our shoes, as we have still some way to go, before leaving NZ.
But it was fun to discover all those shoes and the cache after a short search.
Thank you for showing us this place

Have driven past here many times and always thought I need to grab that cache that’s there. I didn’t realise how old it was so thought I’d better stop today to finally sign it off. Easy find with the hint. Logbook is pretty much full after 14 years of collecting signatures.
Thanks for the cache, dossman

Decided to look for this one after the picnic spot. Nice easy find thankfully. I have done a few of these and some are hard. Will need another logbook soon.
Well that was a surprise as I thought I was off to a church and where do we end up? Somewhere quite difference, made the find quickly thanks.
Thank you for this cache, dossman, and for the specific hint - good to mark this area with a cache! The 1st time I found such a cache (long since archived, GC21Z6B) was when I had fewer than 200 finds & I remember taking some time to find it. A few other similar caches around NZ, I think I saw one that was associated with a bra fence !
