I'm staying in St Arnaud for a few nights and after hiking up to Mt Robert yesterday, decided that today I'd take an easier option and explore some of the trails closer to the village. This cache was found while walking along the lakeside, then returning via the loop track. TFTC!
Driving today from Blenheim to Nelson we took a loop via highway 1 to 63 and number 6, a nice tour through the country and so many caches. We stopped here and there with our muggle friends who were patient and just enjoyed our smiles when we found a cacheLike this one Tftc
bit of a bush bash from the track. circled around a couple of times then spotted it. tftc
After a thirty metre bush bash we were rewarded with stunning views.
The cache was soon spotted after a short search.
The kiwi theme to this cache seems to have gone slightly off the rails as it contains Zazu from The Lion king. Not quite a kiwi, but he is a bird, so not too far off

(# 7594) Day 4 of the West Coast trip primarily to go to the Wild Food Festival in Hokitika. Today we are traveling from Hokitika to Picton. Another oldie to find. A little bush bash but with 3 of us searching we quickly found the container. Thanks for bringing me here.
Day 4 of our caching adventure to the wildfoods festival. Festival was yesterday so time to turn around and head north again with Mr-Mcgoo and Justlooking00. Caching from Hokitika to Picton today. Seeking out oldies and goodies.
This was the target of our walk along here early evening. An absolutely stunning place to be to rejuvenate. Mr Mcgoo made the find here as we all spread out to locate this oldie. Great to see this still going so well, thank you.

Up the lake at the Classic Boat show today and while Andy continued looking at the boats, I went for a walk to grab a few caches. With the last one I checked being a dnf for now, I headed on to this one and after the phone settled down, I narrowed down the GZ. Even then it took a while to see something as the bushes have grown a wee bit since this cache was placed. Sat on the beach to sign log and just as I finished, a vintage plane flew over the lake and did a few circuits above the boats. tftc

A wet cacher here this morning after the rain and it all seemed to come off the leaves onto me. Cheers
Much easier to reach from the beach, but got quite scratched by the shrubbery to get there. Great fun!
Another one off the track. I was worried I'd be directed into the lake, but I stopped just short and found the cx. TFTC.
After checking in in the hotel I wanted to make a walk, with opportunity to find some geocaches.
I made a loop via the Black Valley walk following the river, then in the wood following the Honeydew walk and the Loop Track - which brought me next to the lake, in the woods with creeks, rock, ferns, moss and lots of bird song…. Lovely.
I walked for about two hours, and I estimate found half of the attempted geocaches - some were quite off track for me to feel comfortable, some I really couldn’t find.
But a lovely and very quiet place next to the water….

After knocking off the Richmond ranges yesterday it was time to carry on along the trail a bit more and thankfully the terrain is alot easier than the last 8 days..
Dropped my bag and head bush for this , didnt take to long to locate..unfortunately log is soaked so couldnt sign ..needs some TLC..

Found the cache ok. But due to the rain i didnt open it and just took a photo. Tftc
Spending 2 nights at the Kerr Bay campground, a great place to unwind.
Lovely stroll along the nearby tracks, an excellent way to spend a morning.
Bashed my way to the lake shore and took a GPS reading from the open. Closest I got was 6 metres, so I followed the bearing and staggered around in circles in the forest.
Was heading back to the lake shore for a fresh GPS reading when I stumbled on it by accident, less then 2 metres from the beach.

Used the previous finder’s hint of getting to the shore for an accurate GPS. Quick find from there. All good, TFTC Q moto.
RG1972 and I went to St Arnaud for a night. We had a great meal at the Alpine Lodge, stayed the night at a family bach and did some walking/geocaching on Saturday. Just a short, quick loop walk for us today. All but one geocaches found. Also checked out the waka ama racing on the lake where we had a friend competing. A good break before spending the rest of the weekend in Blenheim.

Mr 13 and I decided it was time to complete another side of this loop. This was the sixth before we started on the last side of the triangle. Thankfully, this one took hardly any looking either as we headed straight to it. Much better GPS signal out near the water.
Out for a wander around Lake Rotoiti today. Nice to find another oldie. Thanks for the cache.
Found on our TA thru-hike on the way out of St Arnaud. Were hoping to see an actual kiwi here, but no such luck. Still got about a month and a half left to find one!
I didn't know what to expect here because I had just come off the Loop Track and I could see this was close by but with no cell coverage I couldn't open the page. Log is damp and I see someone has been here before me today. That makes 4 of us caching in this area that I know of today.
Not much happening in town today so we headed to the lake for a short walk in the bush. So after lunch on the lake front and feed the eels underneath the jetty it was time for a walk. The loop track was lovely we seemed to be the only people on it today so caching was easy. The bird songs in the trees was fantastic and the native bush is fantastic. Thank you to everyone that placed caches here to find.
Found it durring a family hike around the lake. We went to lake head hut for one night and then walked out the next day great cache. Great day and a good find TFTC
Another wet cache on the lakehead track. Tried drying it out in the sun but some of it not savable.
Spent a few Days traveling through the Nelson Lakes National Park and this day after doing the St. Arnaud Range Track have gone to do the Loop Track.
Thanks for hiding this Cache at an amazing Place in the National Park.
This one was one of the last this day and was really relieving after an exhausting day of hiking to get back.

Quick find while walking the lake head and loop tracks. Container is a bit wet inside but log was signable.
Today, D4nielB and me decided to do the Lakehead Trail from St. Arnaud to the Hut and back. Of course we also looked for some caches on our way.
This one was the first cache of the day and an easy find.
Greetings from Hamburg, Germany.

Today Jul1ane and me went out for a hike on the Lakehead Trail to from St. Arnaud to Lakehead Hut and back. Apart from a really nice hike, we also took the chance to find some caches on the way.

A family outing and Lakeside walk for the holidays...another bushbash this time towards the lake...the gps pointed to the right place and cache soon found. Tftc
A little damp out today but a nice gap in the weather just in time for me to do the loop walk (plus this side trip). Lovely place
An interesting twist of events had me driving a van, fully set up for sleeping and camping, so I immediately applied for leave on Friday and looked for a suitable destination. St. Arnaud has been on the cards again for some time, so it was a no brainer to head in this direction! On Saturday, I decided to take a walk around Lake Rotoiti all the way through the swing bridge. Not because I was trying to keep my feet dry, but there were a couple more caches that way! It was definitely not a cold day, and I kept reapplying sunscreen and insect repellent the whole way. Excellent tramp, highly recommended!! It would have been much easier if I read the description first!! Thanks for all the caches that made the day so enjoyable!!!
What better to do on a sunny Sunday afternoon than to pack up and head to Lake Rotoiti. A lovely walk in the shade to GZ although we were amazed at how many wasps were in the area, luckily we did not get stung. Cache was a nice easy find. Thanks for placing this cache
On a week's walking and caching holiday with trifolia argentea we aimed for 100 caches. Thanks to all cache owners.
We are on a family holiday to Nelson. Son number 2 is going on a tramp with mates at Nelson Lakes, while we spend time in Nelson.
We had our morning tea here. A nice view.

A good spot for the picnic lunch, nice views of lake and surrounding mountains and a smilie to boot. TFTC all in good order.
Found while walking the loop track with TregearP. Quickly found the cache, signed log and replaced as found. All in good condition.
Out on the shore a perfect place for lunch. Thanks for the cache.

The lake is pretty high after a lot of rain so this required a bit of bush bashing before me 6 found the cache.
TFTC,
Some serious bushwhacking to reach this one! Came back via the beach which may prove a better way in for future catchers.

Day 2, Queens Birthday weekend and a walk around the Loop Tracks was on the agenda. Quick find once I'd made my way down to the shore. TFTC hazedarus
Easy find on our lovely walk down the lake from Lakehead. Thanks for providing the fun along the way.
Tried to find it on my way to lake head hut, but GPS was all over the place, and didn't have time to wait for it to sort itself out.
Great lakeside track. Good to see Nelson Lakes is fighting the wasps too. Lovely area and excellent walk. TFTC
Thought about searching for this one, but it was raining far too much to fossick around the bushes!
After much agony finding and manually loading each cache for my first roadtrip with Zara, GPS Zara and I are on our way.
Great walking place. Pays to go past cache location for about 50 meters to get to lakeside with minimum of bush bashing, then a nice walk along lakeside. Easy find. Thanks for bringing me here. Sorry forgot to drop off a kiwi.

Found with quinella in a geocaching mission weekend. Got a wee bit confused how to approach it but worked it out. Tftc
First followed the Garmin and read the description later. Would have been easier the other way round. But managed to grab the cache. TFTC
Found it I don't like the bush bashing in this wet conditions... he did. ^^ Thanks for the cache IN: Kiwi figure with egg
We decided to approach from the shore side. Got wet feed but less bush bashing. TFTC
Had 4 Days, 3 Nights walking the Travers-Sabine Circuit. GPS-Good/Cache-a little wet /Hint was Good/Weather was Great.TFTC.
No Kiwi's, feathered or supporting the AB's seen anywhere near GZ today [:o]
I may as well be in Argentina !!
The scenery here was rather special though [^]
Lots a mountains surrounding a lake
Big mountains too !!
TFTC and lack of Kiwis [^]

While staying at the nearby lodge I set out to track down some of the caches on the circular lake track. Spent a couple of hours enjoying the walk, dodging roots and trying to keep out a lot of wet and muddy patches.
Thanks for the cache O moto.

Staying at the Airforce holiday home at rotoiti - great opportunity to bag a few of the many caches hidden up here. Lots of muggles on this track so need to keep quiet...

Mrs Kiwimykl (aka NZDi) and I booked a holiday home at St Arnaud for a long weekend in which we hoped to do a few of the local day walks. Being new to geocaching we thought there might be a few in the area that we could pick up on our walks, so imagine the surprise I got when I checked the GC map of the area, it would take us a week to clear it.
So wouldn't you believe it, after a summer of drought, the weekend we go to the Lakes, the weather forecast is pants. We arrived on Friday morning to driving rain and blustery conditions... well it was like that the whole trip up from Blenheim. Later in the day we managed to get 3 hours on the Teetotal MTB tracks finding 6 caches along the way.
Day 2 was no better than day 1... a great weekend for the Classic and Vintage Boat Show held on the Lake... NOT. Like Friday the weather cleared about 3pm so we headed out to do a few caches around town before it closed in again and managed to pick up another 10 caches including our first Earthcache.
Today we're heading home, but not before we do the Loop track down by the lake. This is the 6th of 7 caches we got today before heading home and I must say there is nothing like a good cache description and hint when you've got a dodgy GPS signal due to bush cover. As this was the case in all todays caches, we whole-heartedly thank the local cachers around St Arnaud who made it so easy for us.
This weekend NZDi and I managed to get 23 caches in the limited time we had for caching during the fine spells. There are still plenty of caches here to be discovered and as we love your little piece of paradise, like Arnie... 'We'll be back'.
