Logs for TheQuollandBandicoot

20-Feb-24
Unfortunately it looks like the kookaburras have had the last laugh and flown the nest.

25-Aug-23
Had a lovely visit to the museum - hadn't been there before. I had an opportunity to "take a seat" and after musical chairs, it was finally located! Fantastic view.

24-Aug-23
Had some fun finding this one, and fantastic view. Never been here before, and our friend was really happy to bring us here - we had a lovely afternoon visit. TFTC FP

23-Aug-23
Staying nearby, so we had to make a stop. Found after a short search with myself and numerous muggles. TFTC

21-Aug-23
Found after a decent search where we widened the search area. We enjoyed a lovely lunch here with perfect sunny weather. SL, TNLN TFTC

QEF this visit as I had downloaded everything offline after missing out on geocaching here last time. Didn't see as much wildlife this time around, but our visit was much shorter. TFTC

Back to Tidbinbilla after a year, this time to show EagleEyedNanna. Didn't see a platypus, but did find the cache after a decent search. Like the personalised container. Beautiful spot. SL all in good order. FP for bringing us to such a nice part of the world.

18-Aug-23
Decided to take a detour down to Kalkite. The views are amazing. Collected this one on the way, QEF. SL, all in good order. TNLN TFTC

15-Aug-23
Stayin nearby and went for a walk with our Muggle relatives who were excited to find their first geocache! QEF with the hint. TFTC

14-Aug-23
Visited the QVB and the clocks - it's been so long that there is a new clock!!! I was expecting to see the Royal Clock, but it was a totally different clock when I arrived, and the Royal Clock has moved down from where I remember it to be - it also had the wrong time, so maybe it's stopped? Great to return here, thanks for bringing us here to see the "new" clock!

13-Aug-23
Found with our Muggle relatives - their first geocache! It took us a while to find with the GPS not settling down, and probably taking the wrong path.... SL, all in good order. Large termite mound not too far away was really cool to see.

Found with Muggle relatives after a lovely afternoon bushwalk. Didn't take too long, SL and all in good condition. TFTC

27-Aug-22
Found the container on the grass, minus the lid and log book. Have sent a photo to the CO and put the container back where we were expecting it at GZ.

22-Aug-22
Found Dave today. It took a little bit, but soon found and signed. Thanks for the cool cache!

20-Aug-22
Woo Hoo! Finally found and on the geocaching world record attempt day!
Again, we've done this the hard way, having retrieved all the details last time we were here, but before I used the geocaching app properly, so we had to redo the (most lovely) walk again. It was a beautiful day for it, and the geokids loved it. I then realised that I had Google maps marked with GZ!

In any case, we trekked to GZ with an enormous angophra fallen in the track we were using to turn it into a bush bash again. EagleEyedNanna wasn't impressed! We couldn't get closer than 20m to the co-ords at GZ, so used the hint and eventually found the cache!!

SL, all in very good order. TNLN, FP, TFTC!!

18-Aug-22
A lovely day to go for a walk and take it the amazing view. It took us quite some time to locate the cache, finally found about 7m away (and not particularly meeting any of the clues). The container was full of water, which we emptied - obviously too wet to SL. Stood upright so hopefully it dries out. Thanks for bringing us here!

Resussed!
I finally turned this into a smiley!!
Last time we visited Pearly I got all the details and then had a failed attempt at getting to GZ. Roll forward 4years, with Covid restrictions really getting in the way and I realised I hadn't used the geocaching app last time so I had to re-work the co-ords! Second attempt to arrive at GZ using what I was told was a pathway.... it ended up a bush bash. Third attempt, and we drove nearby. Completely missed any pathway to GZ, and realised that actually we got pretty close to GZ on the second attempt. We've definitely done this one the hard way!! Found fairly quickly with good co-ords. SL, all in very good condition. TNLN. TFTC and quick responses from the CO.

16-Aug-22
We had an amazing day at Yarangobilly! Answers sent to the CO with our GPS snapshot.
Thank you for the very interesting earthcache.

We had a fantastic time at Yarangobilly! We spent over an hour and a half getting down to, swimming in and walking back up from the thermal pools. Definitely worth a visit!! Answers and photo sent to the CO.

Resussed!
We had a lovely day at Tidbinbilla sanctuary, however I had forgotten to download all the geocaches offline, so didn't know where to look. Total disaster! Back at the Visitors center with some good WiFi we saw this one close by and needing to be found. It took us a good 30-40mins to find, putting us a little behind our schedule meaning we had to drive right on dusk with the 'roos. Saw the feral ants, but gladly no other unwelcome visitors. SL, all in good order. TNLN. TFTC

We had an amazing day at Tidbinbilla! Saw koalas, a potaroo, brush wallabies but no platypus. At GZ, this one was obvious and quiet intriguing. Sent my answers to the CO. TFTC

11-Aug-22
Excellent hide, FP as I have the same container and this was terrifically well placed! This is my 500th cache, so I was pretty excited, even in the rain!

Spent a wet afternoon at Questacon, and this was fairly close. Managed to get all answers which have been sent to the CO with the photo!
TFTC, lovely to see all the flags.

10-Aug-22
Staying nearby, so the geocache was a must. Found after a short search. There was one near here a few years back, so it was great to be able to do another!!

02-Aug-22
Lovely day for geocaching. The road however was closed, so it was a 1.5km walk to reach the lookout - the road was perfectly sound, no idea what the reason was for the closure!
We could see the view in all its glory, so peaceful and quiet too. Got all the necessary details for the answers, which have been sent to the CO. TFTC

Whilst this cache hasn't been found in some time, it has been replaced and checked twice. Many thanks for the mightier than Mighty Minions for helping me maintain this cache through the pandemic.

I appreciate some caches are a little frustrating to find sometimes, and might take a couple of goes, but just think - the next person to find can put it towards a resuscitation challenge!

If there are any inquisitive muggles, then as always, educate them about geocaching - you might be pleasantly surprised on the response!

10-Feb-21
The cache has been replaced and is ready to be found again. Many thanks to a mightier than mighty local geocacher for helping whilst I'm stuck overseas due to Coronavirus travel restrictions.

01-Jan-21
Looks like the host has consumed the cache! A new cache container on its way, cache will be up and running again soon.

29-Jul-19
Visited here ages ago and had my answers approved. A fantastic spot to visit - the weather was great and we went up the light house for an amazing view. Really enjoyed this one. TFTC!

07-Apr-19
It took a while to find where the cache had ended up after a large storm, but it has been found, cleaned, dried and restored to its host - although probably an easier find now.

29-Jan-19
Seems that it has gone missing. Will check on it soon.
Thanks

Lovely day for Geocaching!
Our first cache for this holiday, and found with a niggle member of the family who was intrigued as to what all this Geocaching business was about!

We climbed to the top of the light house and enjoyed the beautiful view. Highly recommend the tour. The lighthouse is the best kept one we've seen - perfectly white.

TFTC, SL, all in good order.

07-Jun-17
I had been wanting to do this one last year when I was visiting my Dad's farm near Jindy, however, we were fully booked up, so it didn't happen. This trip, Dad didn't forget, and organised the boat and we got our picnic basket sorted.

We had beautiful weather, a decent boat ride (which the geokids loved) before arriving. A large search was undertaken by all the elders - to no avail. We were sure we had the co-ords correct and finally checked pictures and matched up the remaining scenery with the multiple charred areas, and realised the possibility of survival of the cache was minimal. A lovely lunch and play on the beach was had, whilst we pondered what to do.

All was not lost, amazingly, I had brought a little notebook to use as a swap if there was anything interesting.... So, we signed it and put the cache details on the front and hid it where we thought it should be. A cache revived and signed is a cache logged. My first T5 into the bargain!

Thanks for the great day out. We had loads of fun, and great that we were able to help in keeping this one going.

Definite FP.

26-Apr-17
Found on 15th April whilst also looking for the mystery final cache which I had worked out the co-ords for last year on our holiday here. I had spent time looking for this last year to no avail, but this time I found it fairly quickly. SL, the cache was all in good order but I've had to log from my offline saved caches as I think it's been disabled. I have really enjoyed the series and found most of them, although the mystery final eluded me - there was just too much undergrowth to go hunting with the geokids in tow and a flight deadline. TFTC, and I hope this series is back online soon as it's a lovely park. Our relatives are moving, so we won't be back here any time soon.

23-Apr-17
We went on a walk in the last hour that we had before flying back home. QEF whilst the geokids looked at containers (and certerpedes!). Our relatives house nearby has been sold, so a shame we won't be back to this lovely park any time soon. A nice way to finish the holiday. TFTC

15-Apr-17
Replacement log book hidden under a rock, next to a hard place at GZ as GZ is burnt out. However, it's only in a sealed bag, without a cache container. Agree with previous cacher, this is a T5 and I think this should be upgraded.

13-Apr-17
We were visiting nearby and I needed to go into town to grab some marshmellows and Easter eggs, with the town in its entirety having sold out of he former, I ended up going home without, to a very disappointed geokid! However, I did take the liberty of having 10mins to myself to stop by and pick up this one. Co-ords with the hint made it an easy find. TNLN, SL, which was all in good order. The camouflage for the cache was put back as best I could, but there was a very intriguing beetle in the way, which I didn't want to squash. TFTC, lovely to visit Jindy for Easter.

11-Apr-17
We were visiting a family friend who lives just nearby. This is the closest cache, and I hadn't seen this little park on our previous visit. We weren't sure what the second part of the cache related to, but soon found something that worked, and with some quick calculations we had some co-ordinates. Not long after the cache was in hand, found by Eagle Eyed Nanna! Thanks for bringing us here, and now we know how the suburb was named. SL, it was slightly damp. TFTC, we're 17,000kms from home, so wondering if this will come up on our stats page, replacing the nearby one we found last year!

05-Apr-17
We just happened to be in the area, buying an inflatable bed of all things..... The geokids soon had this one in hand. SL, plenty of room on the new log a previous cacher put in. TFTC, in a most unexpected place!

02-Apr-17
It looked like it was going to rain, but then it wasn't, so we decided we needed a walk. This was the nearest to Ma's house, so off we set. GPS wasn't settling well, so we had a short hunt around. Found by the eldest Geokid, who was super happy to find it after a morning with lizards in the backyard - perfect timing for this one!

Great cache container, SL, all in good order.
TFTC, +FP.

What a treat! We're a good 16,800km from home visiting my lovely Uncle and Aunt. Last year when we looked at caches here there were only one or two - this year, 76 popped up!! I was talking about it, and my Uncle (who has never even heard of Geocaching) decided that we needed to get the computer cranked up, the co-ords sorted and then were all going for a drive to see what this was all about!

This was the second we attempted. My Uncle had worked out what was required, he had read the clue and the cache listing and knew EXACTLY where to look, no GPS required! QEF!!

SL, all in good order. Beautiful sunny day, perfect for caching. TFTC!

I was talking about it, and my Uncle (who has never even heard of Geocaching) decided that we needed to get the computer cranked up, the co-ords sorted and then were all going for a drive to see what this was all about!

This was the first we attempted, relatively quick find - and yes the cars and the trucks go hurtling past here. I found this one, my Uncle sussed out the game, the geokids ate their new found favourite Shapes, and my Aunt took all the photos.

SL, all in good order. Beautiful sunny day, perfect for caching. TFTC!

This was the third we attempted, although the GPS didn't settle well, so we started off on the wrong side. Found soon enough by my Uncle, whilst I was still looking for something that fitted with the clue!

SL, all in good order. Beautiful sunny day, perfect for caching. A great time was had by all. TFTC!

24-Mar-16
We had a day in Canberra en route to Grandpa's farm and decided that the geokids would be best served enjoying some time at Questacon. Glad we got there early as the parking was already almost full!

We had a great time, and I thoroughly recommend it. There is so much to do, and its exactly the same as I remember it as a kid (which was a long time ago). Eagle Eyed Nanna was in attendance and enjoyed the day as well.

The cache caught our eye and was something we all marvelled at before we even realised it was a cache! Quite impressive. Thanks for this cache!

23-Mar-16
An unexpected chance to find a cache as we just happened to be in the area dropping in on friends. Geokid actually found it and swapped a little book for a pencil.
SL, all in good nick.
TFTC

20-Mar-16
This one has to be done - my grandfather worked for Kelloggs all his life, I still have a plate somewhere with his years of service on it. Detoured on the route home with the geokids asleep and stopped right near it. Found quote quickly after reading the hint.
Many thanks for an interesting cache!
TNLNSL - log quite wet so not easy to sign. All still intact though.

18-Mar-16
Found on our second attempt - first time around was a surprise vist, so we weren't very prepared. Geotoddler wasn't really helping, so we went back and read the logs and had some ideas. It still took a while to find, but what a great find!

TFTC SL, all in good order.
Favourite point for a great cache.

Found surprisingly quickly. The title gave me a big hint, actually walked past it as I wasn't looking at the GPS and it was jumping around.
TNLNSL, all in good order.
TFTC

I couldn't make heads or tails of the clue, and walked past it on our walk yesterday. Found quickly today, but signed the wrong date (on holidays, loosing track of time).
SL - the container wasn't closed properly and is really hard to close. A temporary log is in there with a few signatures as the original is squashed into the tube. No idea what the clue is Sad

With a strict time limit I thought I'd take a chance and search for this one. I had almost given up, when alas - there it was! 4 in one day is a new PB for me!
TNLNSL, all in good order.
TFTC - almost through all the SJB Park caches now Smile
