Logs for Tiufal

Thx for bringing me to this beautiful spot. The water had a deep blue colour and the view from the lookout was awesome.
I visited on this day the Blue Lake, the Sinkhole, the Limestone on my way from Penola to Warrnambool.
The water being vibrant blue in summer has the following reasons:
1. Higher position of the sun in summer means more light hits the surface of the lake.
This increases the blue light that is scattered back out from the lake by small particles.
Pure water tends to scatter light in the blue range.
2.The water in the lake is very pure in summer, because to several natural cleaning processes based on an annual calcium precipitation cycle.
In more detail, in summer more carbon dioxide is released into the air as a gas, the pH increases and this water becomes over-saturated in calcite which begins to precipitate out.
This calcite crystaly fall to the bottom of the lake capturing organic materials as they fall and cleaning the water.
In autumn, there is no longer a defined warm layer on top (with the high dissolved carbon dioxide concentration which is released as a gas at the surface...etc.)
Cooling of the surface layer causes calcite precipitation rates to reduce which leads to a lower clarity and the colour change from blue to grey.
The lower position of the sun light in winter, hitting the lake surface leads to a lower scattering of light in the blue range...

Found it! It was lying on the ground. I put it back where it should be hidden for the next geocacher.
Tftc! Great spot, nice atmosphere and good icecream in this town.

Thx for bringing me to this spot. On this day I enjoyed the sinkhole, the limestone, the blue lake and some wineries in Penula. The sinkhole was the most unique place on this day. I have not seen such a wonderfull spot before. It is very unique and I couldnĀ“'t stop taking pictures of it. Now in January all flowers are in blossom and it smells also very nice. Since I have been there in the evening, some possums showed up. I guess they live inside the cave holes. Very interesting.

Tftc. Found it very quickly on an evening walk at the beach. What a beautiful place!

Found this nicely placed cache on my tour through nature in this beautiful spot. The view from here is even more breathtaking than that up the peakclimb. And I discovered my first and only koala in a tree for the day. Thanks for showing this great spot! Tftc!
Found this nicely placed box on my tour through nature in this beautiful spot. This is my first cache in Australia and the first on this sunny day. Tftc!
I went to this beautiful place now the third time and hiked the Peak Climb my second time. There is still so much to see and enjoy that I cannot get sick of this place. I spent a great day enjoying all hiking trails and walked half of the volcano rim to visit some lookouts. I wonder when I am going to be back?
What I am enjoying most is the peaceful nature and the look onto the lake(s) throughout my walks from different points of view. That is so unique! This time I found and logged my first caches in Australia which makes Tower Hill even more special for me. I will remember my day here as a very precious and enjoyable day and hope that I will be back soon. Thanks for the cach! It made me reading the information boards in the tourist center and finally I learned how this place emerged. TFTC and many greetings from Heidelberg/ Germany!
