Description

A rather unique thing to find in a spud field

This spot was shown to me today by a mate whilst out doing some photography with new camera. I had never heard of it before so I thought it deserved a cache to spread the word about its coolness. As the sign says please don't be tempted to tresspass and enter the field...I have done that for you and pictures of the inside of Hut are over at http://gallery.taswaterfalls.com Enjoy!

This Afternoon while travelling to Port Sorell this one popped up on my GPS so i thought id stop and have a look for it, was bit unsure if id find it as last find was back in 2017 but it was there just buried down fairly well. cache was in good condition and everythig was dry, re hid the container but not as buried down as it previously was. A visit to the area to attend the Tasmanian Band Championships held in Latrobe. Some time on my hands between performances so went for a walk with Cat. This one proved a difficult find as was pretty well buried. Logged and replaced above ground. Thoroughly tempted to vault the fence and explore the ruins.. thanks..!!

While heading to my digs for the night I pulled over at this one in the hope of a find, not thinking i'd have much luck to due to how long its been since the last find but after reading the info near GZ a quick look round with the help of a friend the cache was soon founf all be it under lots of leaf litter.
The log book is damp but otherwise in good nic.

Avery interesting cache thanks for bringing me here.

22-May-16
Nicely hidden, use of logs helped. Thx for the cache

21-Jan-16
An interesting story to read via the plaque....glad I stopped by...

Cache was found after a little digging. For future finders, and the word 'rock' to the hint and all should be good.

Thanks Aloysius7.....enjoyed the history of the place.

Hi Aloysius7
An early morning rise had me meet Budgietas at 0630hrs this morning for a caching expedition in and around Chudleigh, Mole Creek, Caveside, Westmorland, Gowrie Park, Sheffield and Latrobe; a change of transport in Launceston late in the evening; I arrived back at Huonville at 0030hrs.

Finally found this cache after two previous efforts. The cache was found and the logged signed at 2000hrs.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

a quick one nut nice spot

13-Nov-10
My geo-eye was working well today. No trouble finding this one. TNLN

03-Nov-10
GPS wanted us to head to middle of field, instinct made us search around trees close to 'no trespassers' gate. Students didn't complain even when we couldn't find it. Think they have the geo bug too. Great spot though.

10-Oct-10
Took a detour on the way back from a visit to Devonport. Fascinating ruins. TNLNSL. TFTC.

10-Oct-10
Found in the evening after watching Bathurst. Ford may have lost the race, but at least I found a cache to keep my streak up. I wonder how many people have jumped the fence for a closer look to force the farmer to put up such obvious private property signs? TFTC

24-Jul-10
Found with two friends, wolf and friend of wolf.

30-May-10
What an interesting structure. transported Geo coin to another location.

20-Mar-10

Pleasant surprise to learm of the history of this area. GPS was spot-on - cache nowhere near the fence. TFTC.

16-Jan-10
To many signs saying 'keep out private property'!

26-Dec-09
tnln - nice day out. THX

06-Nov-09
I think the description says it all, it did need a cache so show off it's coolness.
Had to be very restrained not to climb the fence and go exploring, it just looked so cool it was just dying for a poke around. But no, I was good and just looked from the sidelines. Thanks Aloysius and whoever is maintaining it, a worthy spot.

16-Aug-09
A wet, windy day to be caching but it's a bug this little family has caught and now we can't stop Smile A great place for a cache!

06-Aug-09
Found without any trouble.

09-May-09

thnx

03-Mar-09
is it poison ivy covering the old house?

28-Feb-09
Very interesting house. Would never have come here if not for geocaching. TFTC. TN, left ball.

09-Feb-09
What an odd sort of thing to find Smile
Good of the locals to put the plaque there.
The poetry is rather good and adds to the overall caching experience nicely. Better than just staring across the spud field.
TFTC.

Quick find, even without the GPS. What an amazing thing. I had heard of Palmers Cottage and even though I had driven along this road specifically looking for it, I had never seen it. Doh!!! At least now, thanks to geocaching, that has been remedied.

We liberated the gingerbread man so he could travel to Plushie Haven and left a very handsome turban shell.

While we stood and admired the tree house we spotted a wedge tail eagle soaring overhead.

18-Nov-08
Thanks Aloysius, I saw this while driving past a few months ago and have been meaning to go back and stop to look. You gave me a good reason to do so.

21-Sep-08
Interesting story behind this feature.
Thanks aloysius7

21-Sep-08
When we pulled up at GZ I originally thought we must have been in the wrong place but then March Brown spotted what was in the paddock.
While I logged our find March Brown read the interesting history and after a few pictures we headed off.
Thanks for the cache aloysius7

Until recently I lived in the Latrobe area and until today had never driven down this road and certainly didnt know about these ruins

04-May-08
Great house! Although all the spider and birds and other crawlies would get to me after a while.
Thanks for bringing me to see this Mr A!

Wow, great ruins! An excellent spot for a cache as the family had an excuse to drive down a pretty road. The plaque has lots of interesting information on it which is why it is in the gallery.
Swapped small pens and animals for some of the contents. My daughter was impressed by the "I love geocaching" bracelet.
Cache found around about 6 pm.

04-Apr-08
Its actually Ivy...not a tree. Digger and I snucked in to check it out properly. Name is a bit deceiving I guess Wink

02-Apr-08
I've been wanting to find this one for ages - the description and photos were so intreging! so I was happy to finally be in the area and have a look! Unfortuantely I think the tree's getting big enough you can barely see the structure, but I like the information sign nearby too.

Thank you for the cache and showing me this spot I would NEVER have found otherwise!

30-Jan-08
Actually we found this one last year in June or July and agree with all the other logs - just what geocaching is about. TFTC

30-Dec-07
What an interesting place...fascinating! Plaque adds to it immensely. Mum and I made a little detour on our way back from Lonny. Found cache easily and signed log. Thanks very much for placing a cache there, we would never have otherwise known of its existence. And the paddock seems to be for sale at the moment...

22-Oct-07
I found this one when I was part of the Cheesy Pigs. I have now ventured out on my own and am logging caches under my new name. I wont log the caches only Mr Cheesy Pig found. Let me know if you want me to re-find and re-log the cache.

22-Oct-07
I have to agree with everyone else - what a great spot, and very interesting history lesson. Thanks for bringing us here Aloysius.

Didnt know what we would discover, the title
was intriguing. Very interesting. Thanks. TNLN

04-Jul-07
Ahem... I wouldn't recommend doing this one at night! )-: The cache itself was easy enough to find by torchlight, but obviously the point of the cache was somewhat lost on me... At least I'll know which way to go next time I'm in the area.

31-May-07
On cremation duty again - second time this week, gets a bit depressing at times, so thought I'd do a couple of caches to help cheer me up. After all it's nearly winter and that's my favorite time of year for caching!

This one has been on my to do list for some time and I nearly called in the other day to check it out, but I left everything at home, NavNanna and eTrex.

Nice easy find with some very interesting info of the history of the house - just the type of cache I like!

Thanks Team A!

25-Apr-07
Thistles still high, but drying off. Perhaps it is time for the owner to burn them off and get rid of the seed. I think I saw some remains, but I'm not sure. Took Tas Fire Service patch. Left Table Cape Lighthouse fridge magnet. TFTC

14-Apr-07
Spent a lovely time in Latrobe while wating for the ferry.

Can't see much at the moment as the thistles are very high so we'll have to take your word that it's there. TN and left a caterpillar. TFTC

01-Apr-07
