Description

Cache placed in a little known area thats fun to explore during summer flows....

BUT PLEASE BE AWARE that water levels can rise significantly and RAPIDLY after prior rainfall. Any exploration of the cave system is entirely at your own risk....please exercise extreme caution...especially with children.

Please refrain from straying off the grassed areas into surrounding bushland as there are numerous unsighted vertical shafts.

Upper sections are MOST DEFINITELY a no go zone unless you have special gear and a GUIDE.

Great place for picnic or barbie...and good staging point for other caches in the area.

Cache is a small black screwtop with log, pencil and swaps. Please replace where found.May pay to check the hint.

Hi Sirius,
Was out this way working and noticed this cache was only just up the road so I thought I’d grab it while here.
I didn’t have a good torch only the one on my phone so didn’t go exploring the area.
Luckily I found the cache without needing to much light.
Signed the cache then went to search for the gc cache nearby.

An awesome location and we enjoyed exploring the parts of the caves we could without the necessary equipment to explore further. A quick find. TFTC!

Found today after getting out of the house and cruising the Mole Creek area. Firstly drove from home and travelled up to Lake Mackenzie. Then back down to Mole Creek for lunch. After lunch we decided to cruise through to have a look at honeycomb cave. Things have changed a little bit since we were last here. The water was up, however not as far as I thought it would be.

Find was a bit of a stretch, nevertheless was an easy find. TFTC Clan Cerberus

We noticed that the CO had recently reactivated this cache and as we needed a dragon zone cache find for our Vernal Equinox Mission we decided to take a trip to Mole Creek. It was a lovely sunny day when we set out so that we were not too worried when we realised we had left our coats at home. We were a little more concerned when we realised that our strong torches and spare AA batteries were also at home in the study. With both GPSs reading low battery we decided to pop into the cheap as chips style shop on the way to get batteries and a strong torch. We knew our GPSs might last all day but didn't want to risk finding ourselves well away from a retail outlet when the GPS died. Eighteen AAs and a strong torch purchased for under $10 and we were again on our way.

As we turned off the Bass Highway towards Mole Creek the threatening clouds over the highlands meant the lack of coats was now slightly concerning. We decided that the threat of a little shower or heavy down pour would not deter us from our goal.

It was still sunny when we arrived at the parking spot and we soon sussed out the hide. After retrieving the container, signing the log and replacing the cache we enjoyed having a look around the area. There was a lot of water in the river today so we were careful to keep our exploration to the above. We have been here several times in the past either looking for caches or picking up and dropping our caveneer. Several times we have arrived back at our car to find one of the local park rangers checking our parks pass so it pays to have one on display.

GPSs still alive and rain holding off as we headed out.

Thanks Sirius Tas for reactivating this long lost cache in an area that deserves a cache hide. We're sure many cachers will enjoy a trip here in the future. Container and contents were in excellent condition. GPS may be a little flakey due to the area of GZ but the hint gives a good idea of where to look. No vampires seen today.

Well...after 7 long yrs the cache has finally been replaced.

Sirius - we have found this before and we can confirm it is missing. We had a good look on the way back from the falls with a torch in case it was hidden up the back but it is definitely gone.

This cache has been unavailable for around 3 months now, so we'll archive it to stop it showing up in the cache listings.
If the owner can confirm it's in place, or replaces it, it can be resurrected by placing an Unarchived log against it.

Needs checking...and suspect it has been deliberately mugggled.

13-Mar-10
10/3/10 think this may have been muggled as Deadolga and I know this place from our childhood and wriggled into places without any success of finding a cache of this size. Site had been disturbed so didnt want to do damage to surrounding area.

Caved in Honeycomb many times. Found the waiting vampire easily. No bites, not even from the mossies. Great place to explore.

Cool spot. Amazing how the water just goes into the ground and disappears. Some interesting sink holes close by to look down as well. Met the 'Twitties' on site while trying to work out the route to the next cache of the day.

WOW!! What a incredible area! I enjoyed this one immensely! Big Grin Thanks so much for placing a cache here. Piglet and I let Cheesy Pig get this cache (and spiderwebs, gnats, mosquitos, etc) while we explored. Piglet said it was 'marvellous' which is high praise indeed from him. We talked about the cave geology, and admired the sparkles within the limestone, played in the sand and watched the water disappear into nothingness. It had us enthralled for over an hour. This is probably the most impressive area I have been to whilst caching. It's a truly special area, and i hope it never gets ruined by vandals. Thanks a million Sirius, took nothing but really wonderful memories!

What an amazing location!! This is a great spot. Cache was easily located but the retrieval was a bit difficult. Initially I tried to get piglet to get the cache but the mozzies and spider webs scared him off. So I retrieved it while piglet and greenish explored the caves. Tnln thanks for the cache.

A lovely place to visit after our excursion to the nearby falls. The CEyres and the Tasowls enjoyed exploring the cave and were amazed by the amount of water disappearing into the ground.
The cache was found in a rather gnatty hidey hole and kids made suitable Halloween themed swaps into the goody bag. And the errant travel bug was rescued to be sent into a GC cache.
We will definitely be coming back to this magical place so thanks Sirius for this cache.

What a great spot...Had seen signs on previous visits to the pool but hadnt bothered to take a look. Water running through so we could'nt have a good explore today but with the great looking campground (except some goose having done donuts on the grass) we will be back for sure. Thanks for bringing us here. Dropped off TB but have just realised you cant log GC TB's into GA caches doh!!! thats the second time i have done that, If someone gets here before I get back could they grab it off me please

Several past attempts muggled by folks in overalls and hard hats but we finally had a clear run late Sunday arvo. Exactly where I thought it would be though the GPS seemed to be pointing us a metre or two further east (just stay more or less on level ground). A bit gnatty so May Flower wouldn't go the last metre to retrieve it. Sumpie grovelled in with closed mouth, rewarded with muddy knees (so that's why they were in overalls). TN left footie cards. Great spot, TFTC.

Finally managed to get back here!

Had a good explore of the area with the wife & kids.

Found the cache by PDA light Smile. Was a bout 2 inches from where I reached in to last time!! SO close, yet so far!

Thanks for the cache, it's a ripper spot to visit!

What a great place! We really enjoyed it here, scrambling around and finding the cache. All good, liked the hide. The Meander area is so fantastic - I just love it!!! I omitted telling my 7 y.o. nephew the name of the cache as he'd already mentioned being scared a couple of times in the day of things that I thought were a little unusual... Thanks Sirius.

A funny place to hide. Slipped over a couple of times and jumped off a ledge. Took pen, left bag. Thanks.

Popped in here while out fixing up Summer Fun.

Been in these caves more times than I care to remember.

No problems finding cache, didn't really need a torch.

Took Big Pen
Left SES Pen

Thanks Sirius, Nice one.

Should have taken a torch!

I am pretty sure I know where it is, but I wasn't game to go shoving my hands into dark crevices.

Explored the area with the kids.. very cool area!

I'll be back....with a torch ....and a valid park pass

Top spot none the less, so it wasn't wasted time by any means.

Thanks sirius!

Not a drop of water about today which I thought in retrospect made it harder to find the cache.
Looked up hill and down dale.
Eventually found it in the obvious place along with giant sized mozzies.

Ha ha vampires weren't waitin for me - thats what the 8yo is for. Sent #2 in to retrieve the cache (I was pretending to have a bad back!). Have actually been a lot further in to this one albeit in the summer when the water level was lower - my one and only experience as a spelunker . . . . . . Beaut day for a bite of lunch by a cave . . TNLNSL thanks Sirius
