Description

Port Hacking: 3 miles to go

This is the second milestone on the road towards Port Hacking. Of the six original stones, only three are still present.

Port Hacking: 3 miles.
Sydney: 15 miles

From Discovering Australia’s Historical Milemarkers and Boundary Stones by Robert and Sandra Crofts:

This milestone can be found in a garden at Mackay Memorial Park on the corner of Port Hacking Road South and the Kingsway, Caringbah. A survey reported that the milestone was in this relocated position in 1980 from the Port Hacking Road, 7 ways intersection, Miranda. This grey old square sandstone milestone is only 36 inches high and is hidden in the garden in the Mackay Memorial Park. The milestone is difficult to locate but is face on towards the Kingsway. As the milestone has been hidden in the garden it has been protected from the weather and vandals. The milestone still has a steel ring on the top of the milestone which was possibly used during original poisoning and/or relocation. The milestone is inscribed in uppercase PORT HACKING 3 MILES on the Kingsway face and SYDNEY 15 MILES on the adjacent face looking towards Cronulla. Access to this milestone can be achieved by free street parking in Port Hacking Road South.

Tonight's pre-dinner walk took me over to Caringbah for its trio of GCA caches. This was first of the three and was a nice quick find at 18:00 to mark its first visit in over 17 months. Shocked Nice one. Very Happy

Thanks Team MavEtJu.

3rd of 5 finds while out exploring Caringbah with the geokiddies. While it didn't feel much like Spring this morning we were determined to track down a few dinosaurs for the Spring Racing Carnival and explore the new street art trail.

Stopped off to search for this one in between dinosaurs. Took a little while to spot as it is well camoed in there. A little tricky to get my usual shoulder selfie so my thumbs up will have to do!

Thanks for the virtual Team MavEtJu.
