Description

Quick little cache hidden near a great fishing spot

I drive passed this spot twice a week and always remark on how many people there are fishing off the bridge.

So its about time I place a cache so I can bring you to this great spot, it also has some very nice views.

McGee's Bridge and causeway crosses Pitt Water, near Sorell in the south-east of Tasmania.
The original bridge was built in 1957 but due to deterioration had to be replaced in 2002 with a new bridge which was named as a tribute to Dr Rodney William McGee who was senior engineer with the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources.

Hi stainless-steel-rat
i found your cache today.
i think it had more logs written than shown on the site. possibly due to being the start of a multi on GC.

Claiming FTF - well, for this year (2019) anyway Wink
Hi SSR thanks for the cache and for making me stop, after driving past for decades.
Out and about with geoSonE and AlbyDangles on this warm sunny afternoon for some caching adventure, clearing out GCs in Campania, Brinktop, but mostly Sorell, so grabbed this on the way home.
Do we need a fishing Event? Very Happy
Cheers, EPs.

Today being a holiday with sunny weather, there were many fisherpersons out doing their thing on the bridge. We have never tried fishing from here, and it made us think that we should try it out some time - not that we saw many fish being caught! Fortunately, the fishers were not in the vicinity of the cache and we were able to retrieve it and log it without any problems except for DD managing to drop the cache when replacing it. There was a moment of panic, but luckily it was located quickly. TFTC

Had to do an extra supermarket run late this afternoon as one of my son's is home from Uni and is emptying my pantry and fridge at an alarming rate. So to turn it into a happy trip decided to stop and log this cache. The GeoGSP was at home with his human brother so no hassles with him barking at GZ which he would have, because he would have wanted to go and say 'hello' to all the people fishing Confused It was early evening so not too much traffic and this is a nice easy one. thanks SSR for the cache!

It was finally time to find the cache of the 'Unknown dragonZone' as the listing page says. We should make stainless-steel-rat the mayor of the Unknown dragonZone and that would be difficult to take away from him. This the only cache I know of that is outside a zone (thanks to the 'new' bridge).
I have driven past the cache on a few occasions, most with the CO in fact. Today, on my own, I decided to stop. Nobody was stupid enough to be fishing in this weather so I was the only nutter out and about in the rain Rolling Eyes I parked over across the highway and took the path underneath to GZ. By the time I got there my fingers were almost numb and it was nearly dark so I struggled with the cache container. (I should point out that I struggle with these in any weather or light). I was so afraid of dropping it as I would have never found it. Note to self -stop talking about buying a torch for the car and actually do it. I scribbled a G&E on the log sheet and was surprised I got it back away so easily.
Getting out of that parking area is not easy. Visibility to the right, across the bridge, is shocking so I tried to judge the headlight beams and then went for it. I went left to the roundabout as it was safer in the heavy Friday night traffic. I'm home, warm, fed and have red wine. All is good Smile
Thank you Mayor SSR of the Unknown dragonZone

Yet another great spot.

We had planned one caching trip to Hobart and the Eastern Shore during The Christmas in July game. The ground kept shifting as new Trophy challenges were added so we needed to add more GA caches to out to find list. Not only did we need cache finds for Christmas in July, we needed a cache for a Frigid Solstice, 10 GA Dragon Zone caches for the 12th for the find 25 caches on each day of the month as well as 13 moveables that we need to move between 250 and 500km and a cache in the Sorell council area, we had found caches in Sorell before Dragon Zone but needed one after April 2014. Of course there were also unfound GC caches in the areas we were going to visit. All this meant our to find list was quite long and we were unlikely to manage to knock them all off today. We also needed a day that the weather Bureau forecast predicted would be mainly fine. July 12 looked like it.

We usually leave home quite early however with the threat of ice on sections of the Bass and Midlands highways we decided to head off just before 7:00. We did have the added complication of dosing our daughters cat with its anti biotic pill. It only took one person to administer a pill to our last cat however daughter's cat, that is smaller definitely needs two people one to make sure the pill goes in and is swallowed and the second to firmly hold cat particularly her paws. After leaving our place we headed to daughters abode where we were greeted by a nature strip strew with her household garbage - today was bin day in her street. There was no bin in sight. It appeared that someone had tipped her bin out and stolen the bin. After dosing the cat we found a large bin bag, collected the scattered garbage and took it back to our place so that it could go out with ours tomorrow.

Off we headed again an hour later than we had intended. There was little likelihood of ice on the roads at this time even though there was quite thick frost on the road edges at Latrobe, Deloraine and Westbury. We turned off the Midlands Highway on to the Mud Walls Road and headed through Colebrook and Campania then on to Sorell and Midway Point. This was the second cache on our list.

Having cached in this area several times over the years we knew where to park and how to access GZ. It was such a beautiful, clear, sunny, winter morning here that we didn't notice the cold. Mr Y'stassie quickly made his way to the object mentioned in the hint and had soon signed the log and returned the cache to its hiding position. Container and contents were safe and dry. Solstice cache knocked off. There were no fishing muggles here today surprising as it is school holidays and a fine day.

Thanks for this cache Stainless-Steel-Rat. We look forward to finding more of your GCA hides.

Hello Stainless-Steel-Rat thank you for the cache.

I was out caching on the Eastern Shore today and worked my way out to Midway Point and noticed I hadn’t found this cache of yours. I parked at the end of the road that was the old Hwy before they replaced the bridge from there I walked along the path under the bridge and up the other side. I knew exactly which sign to look at and the hint made it a very easy find even with so many muggles around. I spent some time pretending to read the sign as I signed the log.

A quick find just as the light was fading. In the area for family duties but managed to slip away for a few minutes to find this cache.
Question: Why didn't sharnie's tribe cross the road? Answer: Because they found a better way! Very Happy TFTC

Hi SSR
With Mum in hospital and going to have dialysis as well, needed to keep myself busy. So a trip to Midway, a very quick search I Sainted the cache at 1135hrs.
A father and his children were fishing McGees and a young couple of ladies arrived to go fishing as I was leaving.
Thanks for the *FTF*

TIME FOR A LAUGH:

[a] My TOOL worked perfectly on this one!

Went to the wrong sign at first. Then saw the right one on the other side! Risked LIFE and LIMB to cross the highway, both over and back! Got back to the car and saw the path that I should have taken to get to the cache - Why did OldSaint cross the road?
'Cos he wasn't bright enough to work out there was another way!! Ddddeeeerrrrhhhhh!!!

Cache placed and ready to be found.
