Description

Silicon

Silicon is a chemical element with symbol Si and atomic number 14. A hard and brittle crystalline solid with a blue-gray metallic luster. Silicon is the eighth most common element in the universe by mass, but very rarely occurs as the pure element in the Earth's crust - unless its on a beach.

This series of caches is dedicated to the Elements and the Periodic Table. While my aim is to get them all out eventually - they will broken down into subsets of caches - in this case 7 caches, 6 Traditionals and a Puzzle cache as follows :

Trad - GA10212 Oxygen (find 'g')

Trad - GA10213 Fluorine (find 'h')

Trad - GA10214 Neon (find 'j')

Trad - GA10215 Sodium (find 'k')

Trad - GA10216 Magnesium (find 'l')

Trad - GA10217 Aluminium (find 'm')

which you can then use to find

Mystery - GA10218 Silicon (find 'BB' for future reference) at S35 1g.hj3 E149 1k.lm7

Good Luck and Happy Hunting !

Found this cache with the whitewebbs whilst caching in the area. Crunched some numbers into the geo checker as one was missing. Hit the jackpot after 4 tries.

Day 12 Mainland trip
Out and about caching with Tassie Trekkers finding caches and this was one found. A nice area to wander in. As one cache was missing we force fed the geo checker to get a set of coords. After only 4 tries we were successful and we found the puzzle GZ. TFTP

After checking my GPS logs and guessing the number for Magnesium, I headed back out to grab this one this afternoon. Thankfully not too much exertion required. Cache was quickly found.

Thanks for the series.

Found today while completing the series. This was difficult with 1 cache missing, we had to try all the numbers until we found the cache.

Changing our DNF to a found.
Having all but one of the numbers required to find this cache we decided that since we reached the TP near the cache location, we would experiment and insert numbers.
After many attempts we found ourselves at the container and were able to sign the log. Surprised to see that so few had singed the log.
Another for the NSW team.

very disappointed that we came here and did the tp but because of one in the series missing, couldn't get this one.

So we come to silicon, the backbone of our recent technology. Can any of us go back to a world without the silicon chip?

As we headed down we went through the should we or shouldn't we look for this last cache. If we had been familiar with the area the question would never have been asked but as we were unfamiliar with the area and what it had been used for we were inclined to err on the side of caution.

When we got to with in 20m of our adjusted coordinates we found our selves in an area with a range of possible hides. After exploring one with no find we decided to make a search of one more area.

After a little detour to avoid a thick tangle of low scrub we found a very promising spot and yes, after removing some covering material there was the cache container. After signing the log, collecting the all important clue and replacing and recovering the cache we looked at our GPS - it read 3m! We'd managed to do it again.

It was an uneventful trip back to the car.

Thanks Fitzy_1965 for this cache, the elements series and for a little heart stopping adventure.

#GA2005 - 10:25; Wasn't sure whether I'd get out to this one today, but made it with only a short delay due to the roadworks in the area. Parked the geomobile and headed off along a now familiar track, having gathered the information I needed for this cache on a number of recent visits to the general area. Spotted a likely hide on the approach and was rewarded with a quick find and sign. Looking forward to the next part of the series. TFTC fitzy_1965 Very HappyClan Cerberus

With the clues in the hand today was the day to head out and hopefully make the find on this mystery finale in this element series. Parked in a familiar spot and although the good wife decided to stay in the car, I was off towards GZ. GPSr wasn't too sure which way at one point, so I made the decision for it...and ended up finding myself needing to do a short scramble to GZ. Of course I could have avoided that by simply turning around and going back about 20 metres, but being male, why would I do that??!!!! WhistleWhistle

Once at GZ, the cache was soon removed from its hidey hole.....and it was good to see a blank book. Log was signed, cache replaced and it was back to car, off home to get ready for a late start at work.

Thanks fitzy....looking forward to the next series.
