Description

This cache will take you on an overnight adventure and give you a peek at Tassies world famous

Overland Track. Waterfall Valley (where the cache is located) is the first place along the Overland Track

where camping is allowed.

I found the scenery and terrain on this walk jaw dropping, especially in winter.

Planning will be essential if seeking this cache. Total self sufficiency is the key up there.

Detailed track notes and other information such as necessary equipment, facilities, weather etc. can

be found in the book "Cradle Mountain Lake St. Clair & Walls of Jerusalem National Parks" by

John Chapman, Monica Chapman & John Siseman.

Also, the Bushwalk Tasmania online forum (www.bushwalk-tasmania.com) has a fantastic wealth

of information on all things to with bushwalking - gear, food, walks, safety etc.

Cache is a camoed 200ml Sistema, within arms reach of the boardwalk.- no need to leave the

boardwalk.

Hopefully this cache will excite a Bushwalking Geocacher, or inspire a Geocacher to become a Bushwalker.

On a lovely Overland track hike, we dropped by this cache. Yes, it is still there and also still wet. Hard to stay dry in a climate like this I think! I took a photo as I couldn't sign the wet log book.

The whole cache needs replacing - logbook and probably container. Not sure if it was just soaked from condensation or whether it had leaked.

After a hot day's walk we got rid of our packs at the hut, which we had virtually to ourselves, and went for a wander to find the waterfall. On the way we found this cache, but it is completely had it, so wet that it wasn't even possible to dry it out. I left it where it was, but it needs replacing.

Co-ords and clue spot on. Quite a while since this one has been found but it was in perfect condition once we scrapped all the accumulated muck off it. Signed the log and then back to the hut for some well earned tea.

Had always been a bit put off by the Overland Track due to the hordes of tourists, but this cache being placed out here was a good incentive to give at least a small part of it a try...

We set out from Ronny Creek in fine, warm weather, with sun, wildflowers, currawongs and tourists in abundance. Stopped by Marion's Lookout which was awesome, then on to the Kitchen Hut. Had originally intended to climb to the summit for Sirius' Rockabye cache, but arrived too late in the afternoon for that particular side trip, so regrettably had to give it a miss and push on towards camp. We were rewarded with a grand vista of Barn Bluff in the distance and the surrounding canyons and mountains and the track weaving between beautiful stands of pencil pines and pandani. Lagging behind the other hikers as we descended into Waterfall Valley, we were able to grab the cache easily. The huts were pretty much full, so we pitched our own tent. Next morning we headed back again to a completely different story-- cold grey weather that didn't improve one bit. Fog, then rain, then wind set in and gave the landscape a dramatically new, though no less beautiful look. Cradle Mountain vanished in the whiteness and we knew we weren't going to get up there today. Headed along the Face Track instead, and had a rather hair-raising experience battling the wind and rain over the Hanson's Peak ridgeline...

All in all, it was certainly an incredible and memorable experience. Thanks for bringing us out here!!

Found it later in the afternoon after climbing Barn Bluff on a perfect clear day. We were last to leave camp at 3.30pm en route to Camp Windermere.

My hiking buddy and I arrived at sundown on the 1st in gale force winds and a blizzard. We stayed 2 nights as we waited for the rest of our party to join us (thanks to the booking system). I tried to find this on the afternoon of Jan 2nd, but there was quite a bit of snow covering the ground. After retiring to the hut for the evening and confirming that I was looking in the right spot, I nabbed it the next morning on our way to Windermere as the snow had melted somewhat.

Reached this cache after hiking for most of a day in pretty foul weather over Cradle Plateau and Cradle Cirque. This was the first time that I'd hiked over snow and by this time I couldn't wait to get to the hut but made sure that I stopped for the cache on the way in. (good paint job) Woke the next morning to a very heavy frost and a fantastic view of Barn Bluff.
I didn't do the Overland for the caches but they have been almost the most enjoyable thing, and that's saying a lot for a trip like the Overland Track!
TFTC Geoskid. One of the great memories.

Congratulations Neribil, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It took a while to sink in when I logged in and realised someone had found it -eventually. Even though it could be done as a long day walk, I'm glad you did it as an overnighter, even if you have been there before, it's always different. Not only was it a FTF for you , it was a First log on first hide for me! Yahoo!

After a fall of snow overnight I headed off at 7-30 am for this cache with conditions improving by the hour. Walk in time with an overnight pack took about 4.5 hours with photo stops and a lunch stop on the way. The scenery was spectacular and well worth a visit to this area again. Cache was positioned as described and duly noted as a FTF. An overnight stay in waterfall valley hut together with a visit to the falls in the area made this to be a well worth exercise. A frosty night down to minus 7 c with a sunny frosty conditions for the walk out made the visit one to be remembered. Geoskid, This inspired a bushwalking Geocher. Thanks
