Description

One of the top tourist photo hot spots on the Gold Coast is located at the beach end of Cavill Avenue.

From the stunning sunrise with colours lighting up the sky and reflecting off the ocean all through the sunny Queensland day, this postcard perfect location conjures up 'paradise' to many.

The sign decorated for Christmas

To log this cache you'll need a photo of the iconic Surfers Paradise sign. You can be as creative or happy snappy as you want, just so long as the sign is in the pic.

Congratulations Shifter Brains - FTF

My family and I took a week long mini break up the Surfers Paradise! We stayed in Southport, but took an evening trip down to Cavil Ave to be true tourists. We of course got our photo taken with the famous sign, and i was very thankful we were not around during Schoolies Week. TFTC

When you are in Surfers Paradise with your one true love, and the council has generously decided to put a sprig of mistletoe on top of the Surfers sign then its only appropriate to pucker up. We took a selfie but with our no-internet photos rule and to protect the sensitivities of general readers of this log, I've cropped 'the kiss', so you only see darling-other-half's hat under the mistletoe.

Coming home and researching the symbolism of mistletoe is interesting. According to one source mistletoe has been "one of the most magical, mysterious, and sacred plants of European folklore. It was considered to bestow life and fertility; a protection against poison; and an aphrodisiac."

Now if you excuse me while I cut this log short and say - thanks for the cache. Wink

Max and I (plus our two human minions) went for an adventure to Surfers today.... we took the long way to get there - train from Robina to Helensvale, then from Helensvale to Surfers by Tram. It took longer than if we had of just driven in and parked the car but hey it was an adventure. After lunch at a café nearby where we people-watched while waiting for our food. We headed over to the Surfers sign for a photo opportunity. I don't think Max was too keen, he kept on trying to wiggle out of my arms, I think he thought I was going to kiss him under the mistletoe. The two humans got all kissy kissy underneath the mistletoe -ewwh!

Thanks for the cache.

We've been here plenty of times before - time to drop Misfortune and FluffyUnicorn back home, so we decided to go for a swim at Currumbin, then to Maccas at Surfers for a Frozen Coke. I remember hearing there was a geono cache here, so we thought we should log it. It was the perfect day for a swim, and the ocean is just starting to warm up. Cant believe how busy GZ was today, you would swear school holidays were on. Thanks for the cache, geono!

We are regularly on the Gold Coast, staying at the same place about 400m north of the sign. A regular evening activity is to walk along The Esplanade.
Thanks for the virtual cache.
