Description

An easy find near the lake.

Due to the temporary nature of pens and pencils in my geocaches
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN WRITING IMPLEMENT!!!

Lake Benanee is on the Sturt Highway 15 Km East of Euston, and is a convenient place on the Sturt Highway to stop for a break or an overnight stay. Facilities include clean sewered toilets, picnic tables and shelters.

The water level in the lake is lower than in earlier years due to drought and/or "climate change", but was a popular water sports venue in wetter years.

The cache is a 1.7 litre clear square cliplock container inside a grey plastic bag, hidden a short walk from the parking area and out of sight of muggles. Initial contents are First and Second To Find cards, finders cards, 5 ring key ring with blue LED light, 6 piece jewellers screwdriver set, fly/mosquito head net, small porcelain doll, Australia dolphin key ring, blind spot mirror, Matchbox "Hummer H3" car, log book, pen, pencil & sharpener.

When trading items please consider trading up or trading even and leaving items that you would want to find, and please don't take the pen, pencils or sharpener. If you can't trade up or trade even I don't mind seeing TNLNSL in the log. Also please don't put the pen or pencils in the log book bag, it tends to destroy the watertight integrity.

Swaggies are not tradeable items. Please feel free to take them without making a trade, but please leave a note in the logbook and your online log, and do log them online. Grounspeak Trackables (geocoins and travel bugs) can NOT be logged into this cache, or any other GCA cache. Please don't drop any Grounspeak Trackables in this cache, and if you find any in this cache please remove them and log a "Grab it from somewhere else" log for the trackable.

Well, this was a most interesting hunt. We arrived near GZ but it took our GPS units some time to settle town. Eventually they were consistent in their indication of where GZ should be. A search revealed nothing. We widened our search area but still not success. So we returned to GZ (according to our GPS units) and began a more detailed search. We rethought the hint and another line of attack was identified. Persistence paid off and after a few minutes, some plastic was discoverd. Further invesigation revealed the cache inside the plastic but it was very hard to retrieve. Still further work was required before the cache was released from its very snug hide. The cache and its contents were in excellent condition. TFTC - a real challenge.

A rainy day to cross the plain and everything very muddy. This one could have been drive by, but discretion won the day. So we slid through the mud across the ditch, past the bees nest and made a quick find. Thanks WanAus.

Great stop on what can be a boring trip across the plains. GZ popped up on the Uniden Map trax navigator an this was good enough to get me to GZ. Not much water in the lake today but still a very good view.
Thanks!

While on our way to Mildura, this was a great spot to break the drive. Just on dusk, and we managed not to bother the campers that were making dinner a bit further over. A quick find left time for some photos of the sadly dry lake.

Thanks for breaking the drive. TNLNSL,
Cheers,
Murf & Mrs Murf.
