Description
The ABC: ABC Southern Queensland
The story began on October 17, 1939 when an advertisement appeared in the local newspaper that to celebrate the official opening of 4QS that night a Popular Concert would be held under the patronage of the Governor Sir Leslie Wilson.
The concert at the Town Hall featured the ABC Brisbane Concert Orchestra conducted by W. Nelson Burton with Hilda Woolmer Pianist and 'many local artists'. Prices were 3 shillings and 2 shillings with the Box Plan at Palings. In another newspaper reference, the station was referred to as "4QS Dalby" as the transmitter was there, while the studio was in the Eager's Building in Toowoomba, near the present Gardentown in Margaret street.

Leaving Tenterfield this morning we have now arrived in Toowoomba and headed out with Tassie Trekkers to find a few caches and this was a quick photo just on dark. Another in the series ticked off. After leaving Nanango we headed for Brisbane via Toowoomba and stopped to grab to the GCA caches that were in the area of our travels. No problems here and the required photo was taken from the roof or the car park opposite the building.

took required photo. I can remember when I used to work in Toowoomba in the late 60's and early 70's that the ABC used to be in the taxation building further to the East in Margaret Street.
