Description

Stop, Rest and Revive is a series of caches along the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory. These caches aim at breaking up the long and often very uneventful journeys throughout the Territory.
I hope that you enjoy the caches and that you take the oppotunity to Stop, Rest and Revive during your travels

SRR - Daly Waters

This virtual cache is located at a very well worth while rest stop along the Stuart Highway. If passing by I can highly recomend a vist to the pub very close to GZ to have one of there Hilux burgers... mmmmm... one of the best burgers I have had in the territory! Mrs GP had the barra burger and said it was equally good and massive! They also have a great little caravan park out back and a thong tree! Its only a short detour off the highway but well worth it!

To log this cache, you will need to find a sign out the front of the pub, letting you know about what angle you can park your car at. You will need to email me the angle at which you can park your car and provide a photo in your log of yourself and your GPS, with any of the towns interesting features in the background. Have some fun with this one and if its not to busy, stop and have some lunch.

A physical cache container was not placed at this location as there are very few cachers in this region and maintenance can be very tedious, if at all possible.

Revisiting Daly Waters. 35 years ago we had trouble with our 4WD and spent the day at Daly Waters. I sat in the cool Pub, while MrT worked outside on the car. Today its the same pub but a lot busier!! TFTV

We'd been told Daly Waters was worth a visit and it certainly is. Very Happy This is a great spot to stop for a break, have a look around, a cold drink or a meal. This unique place has so many quirky collections happening! We stopped on the way to Darwin and on the return. TFTC TeamGeoPlesk.

#GA1524 - 15:30; Day 17 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965. After a night in Tennant Creek we were headed north for Mataranka along the Stuart Highway after collecting a couple of caches close to the town. We were now in Daly Waters, took the advice given on the angle parking sign and headed to the pub for a beer. TFTC TeamGeoPlesk Very HappyClan Cerberus

Alice trip 2017. Day 15. After a great time in the R3ed center it was time to push north. Today took us from Tennant creek to Mataranka. It is great to visit this little spot in the middle of nowhere. It is a pity the airstrip is closed to cars now. PM sent with answer.

Thanks

Photo opportunities at this iconic spot are boundless. As were the !@#$ muggles when we visited. As everyone snaps the pub or the helicopter (or worse!!) we went with something remoter & a little less exciting; but at least it's unique. TFTV.

Stopped here for the night, excellent pub, real character.

A quick couple of caches grabbed here after a stay in the camping grounds overnight (a bit whiffy, and rather basic but it was good to have a pub dinner and give the coach cook a break. The barra burger was very nice - simple but tasty) I'd watched many of these SRR caches go past on the GPS map but this was the only one we stopped at... TFTC

Some of the residents at Daly Waters have certainly gone out of their way to bring tourists to their area - we had many good laughs about some of the exhibits. Logged with permission of the owner. TFTC TeamGeoPlesk

Having worked for Civil Aviation for 30 years Daly Waters was always THAT remote outpost we could be posted to which everyone dreaded. Wives became pregnant, along with many exotic diseases announced for the prevention of a transfer.
One day in 1970 I was at the front bar [a little different to its current layout], when the local constabulary walked in, thumped a fellow at the bar and carried him out.
Mind you in those days Deaf Adders were the big issue with a story of one falling from atop a door and falling onto the shoulders of the person walking beneath.
I don't recall anyone being bitten though.
The airport in those early days before the opening of Tindal was the "alternate" for planes flying into Darwin, so it was not without its intrinsic value.

Visited this place and were completely intrigued by this place.
We have passed here many times and not stopped before.
We took a photograph of the Thong Tree.

We have visited this place a few times and drank heaps at the pub. Loved the atmosphere and decor of the pub. Luckily we camped overnight next to the pub. We were in no condition to drive!! But this time we just took some photos and went off to hunt other caches. Thanks TeamGeoPlesk for the virtual cache.

Stayed here last year and saw the show. This time we only stayed the night and there was no one else here. So different. We parked "where we loked" and took a photo.

WanderingAus wandered by on day 81 of a "climatic refugee" trip, took the requisite photo, and sent the necessary info to the owner.

Six years ago we spent the night camped here, and I said to the WanderingMrs "I'll get a photo of that traffic light in the morning". About 10 PM the message came down "power will be off from 7 AM tomorrow", so the photo wasn't taken then (although we did return the following year and several other years and took a couple of photos).

Stopped for a cold drink at the pub. A very interesting place, we thought about staying here but the lure of Mataranka and the hot springs was too much. TFTC

Sort of stuffed up here.lol..didnt get the required picture, long story!.We were going to camp at the pubs caravan park, but it was packed, i mean really packed, and we prefer to be more isolated..Anyway, we decided to drive back up the road to suss things out, found the old aerodrome...AWESOME!..No signs to say no camping or anything, no one there either. So..set up camp and went down the pub (forgot camera..DOH)..Enjoyed a meal and the entertainment from the guy who dose all the funny wooden signs.
The following morning we took a heap of pictures..see gallery...and were amused by the almost constant stream of visiting caravans from those who had stayed down at the pub, got some envious glances from them when they realised they too could have enjoyed the serenity of an awesome spot too.

It looks as though the National Trust had high hopes for this location, as they have obviously gone to quite some trouble with photographic displays etc inside the Northern Territorys oldest remaining hanger, but it looks as though the whole place is falling into disrepair, i hope this is not the case, as its a very very interesting spot...hope you enjoy our pictures, and i hope the log is valid without the required pub parking picture...
