Description

Please note this is a 4WD cache only. For the cave experience a medium to high level of fitness and agility is needed plus a head for heights.

Zero your odometer at the Caltex station in Exmouth and head South on Murat Road for 28kms.

You will cross a cattle grid and immediately on your right is an access track through the bushes.(Coordinates S22° 11.035' E114° 04.812')

After 1.2 km water tanks on your right..

You will cross 3 river beds, the first crossing will you will need to engage 4WD if you do not have a high wheel base.

Continue to head south for approx 4.5km, follow track turning right heading west toward the range.

You will cross a cattle grid, over head power lines and increase elevation in to the range.

Any forks in the road you come across....veer right.

After approx 5km swallow holes on the Left side of track.

After another 5 kms you have arrived at the destination look for a cairn (a pile of rocks) on the right side of track there is a spot to park.

Take a torch.

At the entrance of the cave there is a metal ladder beside the tree. Be aware, it is approx 30 feet deep and the ladder is not secured at the bottom. This limestone cave will allow you to enjoy stalagmites, stalactites and columns.

PS The views on the trip back are beautiful.

PPS In regards to the comment about venomous snakes......Snakes can be anywhere! Any reptile, mammal or animal can be dangerous. You are in their terrain. In any unfamiliar territory it is your responsibility to be aware, alert, safe and cautious. This must be adhered to at all times to avoid any injury. For example don't put your hands anywhere without looking first, if there is a pile of leaves you need to walk through, throw a rock/stick in there first. Always wear appropriate clothing. I have lived in Australia most of my life and done a lot bush walking and camping, the only snake I have ever come across was in my (overgrown) back yard. Last of all.....................

Happy Geocahing:)

No luck today. But seeing as the last cacher DNF and the previous logged finds are 2014 and 2010 it would be great to know if it is still in location. The cave is amazing... 3rd time seeing it!

The Big Western Australia trip in 2018. Day 26. A day spent exploring Cape Range National Park. Yardie Creek was too high to cross and the trip up the range was dramatic !

I was a bit annoyed here, it took me ages to get here and I spent way to long in the sun hunting around for the cache. I have no idea if I just missed the right hole or if it is missing. I decided not to go in the cave as I was alone and already running late with more caches to get.

Thanks

Thanks for this one!

I had done a search for caves on google and came across this. So thought I would go check it out.

The metal ladder could be tricky for some! I had a camera backpack, tripod and another backpack of which i used a rope to lower them down into the cave instead of having the extra weight on me for the swinging ladder lol.

As the OP has stated some nice cave features to look at, also saw a couple of small bats sleeping.

I have tied down the bottom of the ladder for future use, so it won't swing as much.

Deff. didn't come across any snakes too!

cheers Smile

This was a strange one to find. We went on a 4WD tour and I told Macca (driver/guide of West Trek) I was a geocacher sice I already logged another cache during the trip. He said he knew of another cache along our route (as a matter of fact he made a detour for this one). I thought he was going even further up this track as there was a GC in my Colorado nearby as he stopped and pointed the container out to me. I signed the log and decided to see if I could find out which cache I found after getting back home... well, this is it... Very Happy

Didn't go into the cave as Macca said it was not safe (there's a rather large venomous snake at the bottom of the ladder.
