Description

Interested in swapping pathtags? Then the swapitorium is the cache for you.

Sometimes it's difficult to find another pathtagger to swap a tag with. You could always trade via mail, but that costs nearly as much money as the cost of a tag. So caughtawork has decided to hide a pathtag swapitorium where you can drop by and check out the other pathtags in the cache and swap one out for one in.

Drop by is a small misnomer in this caches case. The cache is around 700m from the closest parking area, but the track is all paved and very flat so it's more of a wander down the path than a slog through the bush.

Please note that you cannot get to the cache from the freeway. Not only is it dangerous and illegal to park along the freeway, there is a 10 foot high fence that will stop you only centimeters from the cache location. Take the Keilor Park Drive exit from the freeway and head towards Brimbank Park. Just before you get to the park gates, take the left hand road, Dodds Road, all the way to the end. This is the closest legal approaching point to the cache.

From there, wander along the Western Ring Road Path and follow the path until you have about 10m to 15m to go. Then head towards the fence. The cache should be an easy find at this point. You are looking for two 1 litre containers inside a 30 calibre ammo can. One container has ordinary swaps and the log book. The other has a load of pathtags. The area is off the path and surrounded by trees so you should be safe from passing muggle in all directions.

Plese note that this is a very dry area and a habitat for snakes, so please be very careful when you inspect for the cache. Maybe use a stick to check the hiding location before you uncover it. Despite the many holes in the ground made by rabbits, the cache is NOT below ground.

When the cache was placed it contained around 30-40 Geocaching Australia pathtags or various designs. While you may already have one or two, you are more than welcome to make a swap and trade.

I hope you enjoy the Pathtag Swapitorium.

GCA Find #97

A nice little walk to the cache, and an easy find. The Cache is in excellent condition. There was a little Gecko keeping guard duty. Lots of road works still going on. The Bike path is still open, so I may make an attack on the caches down the track soon. ClappingClan Phoenix

Thanks CAUGHTATWORK.

good find after exploring the park. sad thst early finders didn't get the pathtag swapping idea but such is the greed of pathtags. a good sized cache after lots of fake rocks was a relief though

Only found out about Geocaching Australia today as we had only been caching on the other site and saw this awesome cache on the map and decided to stop by. I loved the hide and loved the walk to it. Our 2 year old wasn't too thrilled about the 700m walk but of course once we opened it he loved all the swag. No pathtags unfortunately but that's ok we enjoyed the adventure. Probably the best loot I've seen in a cache and I loved the ammo box. Thanks so much for the cache! Best first find for Geocaching Australia!

Having arrived in Melbourne at a time way too early to even mention, I headed off to find one cache, but also happened to run into geo-jas. So after the logging duties at that cache, we teamed up for a few more. We parked at an appropriate spot and set off on the walk to GZ. No rain at this stage of the day and it was quite pleasant strolling along talking about all things caching.

Once at GZ, the cache was quickly spied and all was good. Then it was back to the car and down to see what is happening at the event.

Thanks caughtatwork.....the first of a few of yours today.

Sol de lune and I had met at GA3699, both with the same idea of picking up a few of the other GCA caches before the event. We parked up near the entrance and chatted as we walked across here. We even saw a wallaby in the grass watching as we walked past.
A nice quick find at gz and we were soon on way back. Thanks caughtatwork for the caching fun today.

seen that this one was a pathtag swap so we decided to check it out.
there was no other pathtags in here at all.
so we left one of ours.
Thanks for the cache caughtatwork.

This was another cache hunt which took more time to find somewhere appropriate to park the car. This was followed by a 600m walk to get to the cache. Once there, the cache was a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks for the cache.

Found on our caravanning and caching tour of the area.

A pleasant walk to GZ, made a quick find but only 1 pathtag to swap with. Took that one and left a hookline one TFTC.

Finishing work early on a Friday and thought I'd detour my bike ride home to Brimbank Park to have a go at the pet rock series. I got to this one first and found it easily. Didn't have any swaps so just signed the log and moved on. Things went downhill from here (in more ways than one)

After picking up a couple of new caches on the Moonee Ponds Creek, I decided a nice walk in the sunshine was in order... time to check out the Swapitorium.

Parking near the works depot, I headed along the dirt track to the trail across the upper level of Brimbank Park, then off to the Ring Road trail, reaching the top of that, er, fun climb from the bottom below the big bridge.

The find was straightforward, but, though I admired the pathtag within, and the rest of the swag, I left it all as I found it and headed back to the car around the power substation. All in all, nearly four klicks... not bad.

I'd decided to include this one in my tour of Brimbank Park to finish off the Pet Rock series today. It was no mean feat to ride up that hill from the river but with my heart-rate up at about 1000 beats per second Shocked, I finally arrived at this one for a nice easy find (and a rest Wink) at 12:55.

TNLNSL. Thanks caughtatwork.

I picked up EagleEye from his friends place and had Shadow Cacher with em. They agreed to go caching so I headed a fair way out north and saw that there was this swapatorium. I was keen to exchange for a few items but as was said, there was only one there. I exchanged it for one of mine but already have this so shall move it on later. I had more tags but decided to swap 1 for 1. TFTC TNLN

Hoping to swap a pathtag or two I had to visit this cache. Found without any trouble (apart from a little squeeze through the guarding vegetation), no snakes but a cute marbled gecko was sitting on the cache container and kept scurrying under my shoes for protection, until I managed to coax him onto my hand and put him under the safety of stone Smile Alas, only one pathtag in residence - the rest seem to have been taken and/or swapped for "swag" (I half expected the one I took was missed...) :-\ I left my version 1 pathtag in it's place. The Monday before Melbourne Cup day is always a great day to take off from work. It left me on my own without kids or other commitments. I started my run at about 3 pm in the afternoon and made a great time of it. This time I brought the mountain bike along to grab a few caches on bicycle paths. It was all going well until my puncture at about 10 pm in the evening. Well from then on I just went for some easy drive bys with short walks. The run was a good solo effort picking up quite a number of caches. There were only a few DNF’s so it was well worth the effort. This cache was one I found tonight. Thanks caughtatwork for the cache.

Did this one on the way to do another that turned out to be a longer walk than first thought. SLTNLN T4TC.

After leaving Brimbank Park a sharp right had as close as possible by car.

I jumped out and headed along the path towards GZ.

A quite walk and I was soon at GZ.

I'm sure it was PrincessDiala that filled up the pathtags. Clapping

I just signed the log and took off.

Very Happy

I was planning to make this cache my 100th GCA find... anyways I somehow stuffed up my numbers and picked up a moveable and there went my 100th GCA find.....

So I decided that I would also make this one a two-for-one cache.
Claiming a find on GA2223 Costume Capers too.

I had already cleared with the owner that the costume I used for a friends 30th would be suitable to log this one.
So I located the cache dressed as everyone favourite plumber! Haha!

So the cache was found and pictures taken (I'll upload some to this log at a later date) just before it started raining heavily, phew!

Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed that I was unable to do some pathtag swapping. Not a single pathtag to be found SurprisedShockedSad Disappointing really.

Took nothing.
Left some of my personal ones inside as trades - how can it be a pathtag swapitorium with NO pathtags?!

Thanks caughtatwork for a great of this cache.

My last cache for the day. It has been a long windy trip around Keilor and surrounds. Up hills and down, following creeks and trying not to get lost.
No DNF's all day, is that a First?? Might be.

A fantastic last big cache hide, full of the goodies that the kids would have loved, but they weren't here today. Took nothing as I had no swaps.
Watch out for the bunny holes around the area.
TFTC besides a never ending stream of busy traffic.

Parked near the entrance intending a leisurely run past the three GCA caches in the park.... leisurely it was until the showers hit just as I was admiring all the shiny pathtags.... Quickly packed up and headed off for the others. Thanks.

I have driven past this one several times and today was the day for a visit. The insulators on the fence indicted that it may have been electrified at some stage. I swapped 3 for three pathtags. This is a great idea, not only for swaps, but may get others interested in the pathtags. TFTC

And a nice leg-stretching brisk stroll to finish off the afternoon. There was a good collection of swaps in one box, and a great collection of shiny pathtags in the other ... I keep going through will-I-won't-I oscillations about whether or not to get too interested in these. The trouble is, I know I have obsessive compulsive tendencies and it might be a bad move! Anyway, thanks for the cache, caughtatwork; I've been meaning to check out this trail for ages and your cache gave me an incentive.

Found 9.10am
Worked out the correct way in to the listed parking space and then enjoyed a great brisk walk to the cache. The cache was hidden well in an area that was good to spend a bit of time looking through all the swaps and pathtags. After all that we took a pathtag and dropped in 2 of our own brand new pathtags in return.

Thanks C@W for the cache and a great idea in adding the pathtag swap too, this cache had a different twist on the way back to our car too ..... great fun.

Being my closest unfound to home, I had no excuse for leaving this one unfound, even though I'm not (yet) into pathtags. A pleasant stroll along the path today from Dodds Road, and a quick find. A great location, which I've driven by so many times, and always thought I should walk along here. TNLN. Many thanks c@w for this new hide - I am sure all of the pathtag fans will find this one worth visiting.

Did a bit of a cross country hike from the Rangers office near the front entrance to the park.
The cache was quickly found and the log signed.
Nice setup in the ammo case.

Pathtags were all the go up at Wagga for the mega event, I just can't see myself scrounging around trading these little things, but putting them into caches - maybe the go! I don't have any but I wanted to check some of them out without the evil eagle eyes (of some 60 year old grandma who has only found 2 caches and has 50 different path tags) starring at me to see whether I'm going to pinch one - yes it was that bad up at Wagga! I might order some then come back and make a swap, thanks caughtatwork!

A great concept for a cache!

The young daughter and I approached GZ with pathtag swaps in hand and, to the sound of the passing traffic and low flying planes, inspected the very well stocked cache. She examined the contents of one box while I eyed the other. Choices made we headed on for a bit more exercise in the beautiful sunshine. We've hardly been near here before and the area looked like it deserved a little exploration.

Took: 5 pathtags. Left: 5 (all different) pathtags.

Cheers caughtatwork, thanks for the great idea, all the GCA tag designs and, of course as always, the quality cache.
