Description

A place to go to celebrate 10 years of Geocaching in Australia

This cache is located in a Short Street of Bendigo.
Who could have predicted that the release of American navigation satellites for public access just ten years ago would have heralded the birth of hundreds of thousands of geocachers around the world.
Satellites are an integral component of Geocaching and On top of the building adjacent to this cache you will note satellite dishes.  These are used to send and receive signals from geostationary satellites which are used to facilitate communication by satellite phones from remote outback locations.  There you are . . . . . there are more uses for satellites than just playing a game that has you looking for lunch boxes and he like!

I searched for a while but couldnt find anything here.

Today is the first time i have set out to find Geocache Australia caches. I forgot all about the app and typed coords into geooh go instead which was a bit painful. I had a fun time finding seven and DNFing five.

In Bendigo for the night to visit family and take my grandson to his first day of school Dancing

Whilst here for the night and others getting children ready and bedded down for the night, I headed out and grabbed a couple of caches and some sunset photos. I had been here previously but had been muggled out so it was great to be able to add my name to the log as the sun was setting. A pleasant night for caching (not too hot nor cold) and very few mozzies and even less muggles. Clapping Certainly no shortage of satellite dishes here.
The thing I love about caching is the interesting stories, the extra interest and attention you take when traveling, the sight-seeing, the history, the interests of the individual CO’s, *the fantastic photo opportunities* and sometimes finding places that even some locals don’t know about. I, like most cachers, look for more that a mint tin or a container under a bush. I appreciate the time that most CO’s take to construct a cache and write up a comprehensive listing and to create an interesting cache. **I love traveling this big land of ours.** I love taking the roads less traveled. I love the diversity of the land, the different scenes in the different seasons, the fresh air, the open plains, the lofty vistas and the magnificent waters. I even enjoy the longer scenic walks although I'm not as young and as fit as I used to be. Rolling Eyes I love the different coffee shops I find. I enjoy the times I cache with others but I usually cache on my own.
Thank you Phetlern for highlighting this area and for adding this cache to my real-life treasure hunt. Appreciate your efforts. Clapping

I think it is high time we Victorians reclaimed our satellites from thos southerners!
During our camping trip to Wirilda Bay on Lake Eppalock a visit to Bendigo was the order of the day.
A new camping toaster, some bug spray and a broad brimmed hat from the nearby disposal store.
A quick visit to a little bakery for some lunch and a coffee.
Now is the time for geocaching!
A circuitous route to ground zero and the satellites soon had me standing beside a likely looking location.
I poked a stick into the leaf litter and heard that unmistakable sound of a cache being disturbed.
No wonder it groaned, almost 4 years since it last saw the light of day.
Thank you for an excellent placement.
Cache and contents in pristine condition.
Cheers.

I came I looked. I looked again. Pretended to be a tree inspector twice because of muggles in car. Better luck next time.

So now it's four Tassie teams in a row with it being almost four years since any other state has found it.
We had to dig deep and found a lot of rubbish as we searched but eventually we hit something hard with the stick and struck gold!. Thanks Phetlern for this bit of unloved.

Passing through Bendigo today grabbing a few of the GCA caches. Will have to return one day for a serious assault on this town.
For a city cache we felt quite comfortable searching for this one on a Saturday afternoon.
Didn't take long to uncover it.
Did notice that we are the third Tassie finder of this one in a row.
Thanks.

Many potential hiding places, many of them quite dangerous to the unprotected eyes. Seeing as last find was 8 months ago, I'm wondering if the cache has managed to become buried?

Found on our "Making Memories" Tour of Mainland Australia.

Today we teamed up with whitewebbs caching our way to the Oz Mega. Thanks to all cache owners for placing and maintaining these caches for our enjoyment.

Thanks for the cache,

GA Find number 112

After a most enjoyable meal and catchup with other cachers at a GC event in Spring Gully I ventured into the darkness for a few cache finds.

This cache had been on my to-do list for some time but it's vary rarely that I get a chance to visit the center of Bendigo.

Cache was found quickly and I even avoided the light rain the was falling at the time.

Thanks Phetlern for another GA cache.

03-Oct-12
Found this while I was out for an early morning wander, after the people in the motel room downstairs decided everyone needed to know they were leaving bright and early!
Found it quickly, and at that time of morning, very few muggles about.

11-Aug-12
Today was a big day with 57 finds in the Bendigo area with Honeysucker including an event to celebrate Tigersden's 250 hides. Finished up the day with some night caching in the CBD. Tommorow is the 4WD event to the east of Bendigo.

Quick find and sign. TFTC. Very Happy

Found this a few weeks back and only just remembered I hadn't logged a find yet, my first GCA exclusive find! TFTC

25-Feb-12
We were in Bendigo for the nearby Flash Mob Event & it was a matter of swinging by GZ on our way through after parking the car. There wasn't a soul at GZ and we had no trouble determining the hiding place. We didn't conduct any swaps today. Our thanks to Phetlern for the cache Very Happy

11/02/2012 20:29 We were at jojoes for dinner and whilst waiting for it to arrive I figured I had enough time to collect this box, and I was right. Easy find in a good spot. Not easily seen by passing muggles. TFTC The Morris TNLN SL

04-Feb-12
The satellites were giving me trouble tonight so I wandered around a bit before narrowing GZ down. But when I got there it was a quick find. The container was obvious to me but thanks to its camo I reckon it'll sit there forever undisturbed! Thanks for a fun cache Phetlern! TNLN

31-Dec-11
Last find for 2011. Took while to make the find, but it was sitting there in plain view all the time.

Cache is in good nick after not being found for over 6 months....

TFTC.

299. I was the subject of pretty intense scrutiny as I drove by the wrong side of the drain so was glad it wasn't where I first thought. An easy find of an uncovered cache. Replaced with a bit of unobtrusive cover.

TFTC and the moons.

A quick find first up. Had muggle neice & nephew on board, their first find. Very excited and had to examine every item available to swap before a decision was made. Took marble and whistle, left bow and Ronald McD. Left TB Skippy Roo TB3ZHFW. Sorry forgot this was a GCA cache!

Driving past today a huge great tree has split/fallen over in the vicinity of this cache. Cache is still accessible for now but there may be a problem once they start the cleanup. Will keep an eye on it as I pass it every morning.

Ok the geowife wanted to head into the shop across the road.

I wanted to keep caching so a quick stop and log.

I've left a geocoin if someone could please pass on to a gc cache.

28-Nov-10
RogWat and I found this cache after the GeGnome event.
Since I'm rather late logging this cache I don't really remember seeing the satellites! (That'll teach me for delaying the bookwork!)
Thanks Phetlern for hiding this 10th anniversary cache!

16-Sep-10
After two DNFs in a row, it was nice to have a find before we met up with Mrs Happy Chappy.

Wandered over the road and after a little searching had the cache found. Not quite sure what the muggles driving into the business thought of the Dad and two kids doing lurking in the bushes, but by the time they were upon us it was too late to do much! Fortunately, having young kids kind of excuses any strange behaviour....

TFTC.

12-Sep-10
Did this one on a sunny sunday afternoon. Wouldn't like to do it on a weekday. The kids always love to squeal as we coast down the great hill and today was no exception. Dancing

The first cache of the day and this cache was a target being a 10th anniversary cache. A nice simple cache find for the first of the day makes for a happy caughtatwork.
Rather interesting set of structures on top of the building too.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks Phetlern for this cache experience today and of course, thanks also for hiding a 10th anniversary geocache.

Found 9.00am
Had fun trying to find somewhere close to park without paying. Finally managed to park the car not too far away and followed the arrow towards the cache, with good coords the cache was a quick and easy find.

Thanks Phetlern for adding to the GCA gene pool.

A quick find by the Crazy Creels on this pleasant afternoon after a bit of window shopping nearby. Good co-ords made for a quick and easy find. Thanks Phetlern for the hunt.

Lady Morris was unable to look for this one yesterday as she was spending the day in Kerang. That did mean she got to hear all of your radio interview though. This morning she popped the GPSr in the car with the intention of visiting it during lunch. As she drove passed on her way to work there was a carpark out the front of the building and it was too good an opportunity to pass up. She also knew she would be staring at it from her window all day and may have suffered a lack of concentration until lunch. A nice discreet find amidst the nearby peak hour. TNLN Happy Anniversary and TFTC

Found by Roma and Max.
Although located near the centre of town this hide was well protected from the passing public and good numbers made for a quick find.
Thank you again Peter & Helen for this experience.
