Description

Cache has been placed to boost hides prior to "Battleships" game commencing

This series of caches has been placed for the upcoming midyear game "Battleships"  (It would be to your advantage to wait until 1 June to find this cache if you want to be part of the midyear games)

Game Period: 01-Jun-2021 00:00:00 to 31-Jul-2021 23:59:59 AEST

Play Battleships. Sink the enemy ships before they sink you!

On your entry to the game you will be asked to create a playing area with a number of sea tiles. Your playing field is a grid 20 x 20 sea tiles making a total number of 400 possible areas you can target in your game of Battleships.

A playing field is unique to each player so there is no benefit in teaming up to beat the system through brute force. For each qualifying geocache that you hide or find during the game period you will be offered the opportunity to click on a sea tile and see whether you have make a hit.

There are a number of different sea tiles that will be revealed when you take a shot at your playing area . It should be noted that there are no punishments for clicking a tile but there will not always be the reward you were hoping for as you reveal each tile.

You only receive points for a hit on a ship. Alas, shots that miss a target offer no reward.

Qualifying geocaches fall into two categories. Finds and Hides. A qualifying find is a geocache that meets the following criteria:

  • The geocache is listed at Geocaching Australia
  • The geocache was hidden and published prior to the game commencing
  • The geocache was logged on the Geocaching Australia website during the game period
  • The geocache was physically found by you during the game period
  • The geocache is not owned by you
  • The geocache has not previously been found by you during the game period

The geocache is one of the following types:

  • Burke and Wills
  • Traditional
  • TrigPoint
  • Augmented Reality
  • Beacon
  • Gadget
  • GeoArt
  • Multi-cache
  • Night Cache
  • Podcache
  • Reverse
  • Unknown or Mystery

This cache is placed in Risdon Brook Park. The site has set hours of operation which vary from winter to summer. Please check the board as you enter the park for closing times. During day light savings the park is open 7.30 am - 8.00 pm and 8.30 am - 4.30 pm other times. This reservoir provides drinking water for Southern Tasmania. Children will need to be supervised as track may get close to water, if completing the whole circuit.

Risdon Brook Dam is a 4 km circuit which is an easy walk for the whole family. Cycling is allowed. Follow the vehicle-width track all the way around the reservoir in either direction. The track is mostly flat but undulates around the eastern bay and at the approach to the northern end of the reservoir. There are views to Mount Wellington and Mount Direction from the eastern side of the reservoir and bush views around the whole reservoir perimeter.

Bring your own pen and watch out for muggles. Please rehide as found.

We timed this perfectly between muggles to be able to grab this one quickly without being spotted. They've done a nice job of upgrading the dam wall. TFTC

"Hello whitewebbs thank you for the cache.

I was in the area finding caches and this one of yours was one that I found.
I was heading back and stopped to find this one.
Once again I had to sit and wait for some muggles to come across the dam before making a quick find.

We had to be down south this weekend for family celebrations so planned to arrive a few hours early so we could do just a little caching. We made for the eastern shore and Risdon Dam was our first stop. It was a warmish morning though the breeze was chilly and we enjoyed a brisk walk to this cache. We had read the hint so were able to spot the hide as we got close. We soon had the container and as there were no walking muggles we could sign and return without interruption.

Thanks for this well hidden cache Whitewebbs. It was nice to revisit this spot.

Hi whitewebbs

After my trek around Natone Hill I called into the Dam on my way back home.

The last time here I had 4paws in tow(Sirius)...can't remember being any "no dogs allowed" signs way back then so trotted off around the lake finding caches along the way.
Did a complete loop so nearing the end of the circuit...4paws was getting thirsty so did a beeline to the lake for a quick slurp Shocked ..haha.

At gz, the cache was soon found with accurate coords with cache in top nick.

Many thanks for placing the cache for us all to enjoy and another shot for the BS games...very much appreciated...cheers ST.

A heavy overcast day - but no rain as such for a little while, so decided to go and find a few caches.
Wandered around Gordons Hill, Natone Hill and Risdon Brook Dam and managed to find every cache I was looking for.
Started with Geo Kid E, but after I dropped him off I start on the Natone Hill caches.

TFTC to find during the Battleship games
