Description

Why would anyone place a cache here you ask?? Well, so might we, so we had better explain . . . We had a great idea (at least we thought so!!) for a themed cache (in fact it has been sitting packed for some time!!) and needed an appropriate place to put it, so we did a bit of searching and thought we had an ideal location – make sure that you look at the name of the nearby creek and compare it with the name of the cache! Getting there wasn’t quite as straightforward as we had hoped . . . in fact, once we passed Flower Power it wasn’t really straight forward at all!!

If you are looking for a mini adventure, then this might be just the cache for you! To get there we scrambled around the foreshore and bank, but decided that the best way back was to simply wade through the water!!! So, our suggestion is that you come prepared with shorts, suitable shoes and a sunny day - preferably at low tide (hmm, perhaps it wouldn’t really be an adventure at low tide!!)!! Don’t take the possibly easier way if you are going to be trespassing! The cache is only a few metres above the rocky shore.  We parked at the road block at S43 12.045 E147 15.339, but if you want an easier approach, then come by water!!

We are not expecting this cache to get a lot of traffic, so maybe we will have to make it the first in a series and put out some other similar ones – we found another suitable, much more easily accessible locale as we drove home!!  The cache contains arachnoswaps - but if you don't have any on you that's ok, we will restock later if necessary.

Anyway, we had fun, hope that some of you do too!!! We wouldn’t take small children or many dogs the way we went, but you know your small children and dogs – and if it’s low tide it might not be an issue.

After spending a few days on Bruny Island today we moved to Gordon.

After setting up camp Mr Felix went for a drive to collect a cache for our GeoStreak but of course he coulddn't stop at just one.

High tide and raining today so unable to search.

We stopped by today with a new container. We chose low tide, so the approach was much easier, although still somewhat slippery and squelchy in places! All seemed well and the cache residents are happily preparing for Halloween.

DDTs after finding Flower Power I rock hopped my way along the foreshore to find this cache.
A bit of a scramble up the bank to find the cache out in the open, as I opened the lid I found the UV rays had made the lid brittle and it broke as I opened it.
Please let me know if you need me to replace it.
I placed the contained upside down under a nearby tree (as the hint suggests) so the contents should stay dry.
TFTC It's a pity it hadn't been found for nealy 4 years

Since the weather was nice and there was a low tide of 0.2m forecast for later in the afternoon, Mrs RC and I left the little cyclists watching a Glee marathon and headed out to find this cache.
As we drove south, one of the rainstorms that are becoming a feature of this summer came over, but by the time we had parked, it had settled to a warm drizzle.
We chose the foreshore route, which was very pleasant. I'm really not sure how March Brown got round in a 1m tide without getting wet feet, as we waded at least a quarter of the way with a tide 60-70cm lower!
Anyway, we eventually approached GZ, and I made an extremely precarious scramble to the very top of the bank alongside the huge dead tree.
Finding nothing, I returned to the bottom, and tried a different approach - scrambling up the other side of a collapsed watercourse.
Still no luck, and I came back down the way I went up the first time.
I was ready to give up, but Mrs RC was happy for me to have one more look, so I wandered a little further along the shore.
As I came back, I spotted the cache sitting quite openly, a lot further down the slope than I had been searching.
It took a short scramble to reach it, and I balanced carefully while signing the log. As I replaced the cache, the bank under my feet gave way, and I slid ungracefully but unhurt to the bottom.
From there, it was a pleasant stroll and wade back to the car, and by the time we got back, the sky was clear blue!
Thanks, DDTs.

Out with Tassie Trekkers on a caching trip down the Huon way. Mr. W and Mr T tackled this cache. Apparently it was a scramble and should be a rating of 5 at least. Glad I didn't attempt this one. Left yowie spider in what was a good collection of spiders of all sizes. TFTC. TN.

Found with whitewebbs on our "Down South" caching holiday, Sent the 2 males off to attack this one while the females tackled Flower Power. They took the high road and battled their way to the cache. They were impressed with the contents of the cache and deposited a couple of creepy crawlies. TFTC

Found on a wet half tide day, lost count of the number of trees that seem to have fallen of the cliff face on the way there, used a silver coin to reflect light into the eyes of the big black beast that tried to attack me, quickly grabbed a glow in the dark sibling, dropped coin in and forced the mob back into container.

Great location interesting access. Thank you DDTs Vasco without duck

Hi DDTs
the tide was out so decided to progress to this cache.
On the way in; took a path combination of track, wallaby tracks; foreshore and rock. Found and logged the cache at 1501hrs. Decided to follow the foreshore all the way out. Definitely much quicker!!! Great view at GZ. Loved this one so thankyou!! TFTC and cheers; OldSaint.

Found going along the shoreline quite easy,
the tide was about 1.0m and did not get wet feet.
The cache was found on the shore just below the tree, looks like it has fallen down. This is a very unstable bank so care needs to be taken accessing the cache. Put back where I would expect it to be regarding the hint.
Very much enjoyed this one .
Thanks DDT's Very Happy

Let me say first that this is not a 4 star terrain cache. It should be 4.5. Read previous logs and expected a tough journey. But this was almost ridiculous. Followed a variety of animal trails along the cliff (?) face and after an hour arrived at said creek. Was at this stage to high up hill so had to navigate down to shore level before moving back up to the cache. Even then slipped while holding cache and dropped it. All was good and signed log and replaced.

Found an easy way out and if anybody wants an easier way to find please ask me. It does involve walking across private property!

I just had to find a cache on the 10/10/10 and this was the closest to home Shocked
After reading Dippys log I thought she used the word 'scramble' a little excessively but after doing the cache I now think she didnt use it enough Laughing
I went at low tide in lovely weather and the only bit I struggled with was getting the log book from underneath the 'swaps'....Dippy you did that deliberately didnt you ?!? Shame on you
I loved the walk by the water and having just returned from a high altitude walk in Peru I must say I particularly enjoyed being able to breath too Dancing
Thanks DDT's for the cache Big Grin

This is kind of out of my caching zone a bit, but why hasn't anyone found it in a month after publishing? That got the better of me, so Maddie and I set off for the adventure (and the FTF)! We were there about an hour after low tide and we were able to scramble around sometimes on the shore, sometimes on the animal tracks up the bank. Both choices were scramblous(??) and it was a bit of a challenge for us both at times, but we got there and back without getting wet at all. Actually, Maddie got wet, but that was her own choice. The cache contained a great display of arachnids, and I thought that location was a very appropriate home for them. Another beautifully presented cache DDT's! A good one for when you want a scrambling adventure! Thank you for a fun morning!
