Description
This cache is in remote and very exposed high country (cache is at 1132m asl).
The weather in this area can deteriorate quickly and with little warning.
Ensure you take appropriate equipment and supplies to ensure your safety.
Tell someone where you are going and when to expect you back.
The cache is in the Te Papanui Conservation Park. The Department of Conservation (DOC) has some excellent online brochures about this park.
Cache can be hiked to. A road also runs to within 100m of the hide. Best vehicle access point is off the Old Dunstan Road (ODR). From the Clarks Junction end of the ODR the turn-off is about 5 kilometres past Rocklands Station. There is a gate 5.4 km after the turn-off. DOC locks this gate between 23 June - 30 September each year. It can also be locked at any other time if conditions deteriorate. As far as the gate, the road is in reasonable condition. Beyond the gate the road is 4x4 / trailbike / MTB only - seriously. After the gate the road is rutted in places and high ground clearance will be required. DOC permits vehicles provided they DO NOT LEAVE THE FORMED ROAD. This is a public road so vehicles must be registered/WOFed and drivers/riders licensed.
200ml snaplock. BYOP.
