Description
A cache placed for the Cacheopoly Games
Dead Man's Hollow
A cache to continue our quest in the Cacheopoly game
This is a picture of Dead Man's Hollow from the lookout that overlooks a section in the South Esk River that flows between the Trevallyn Dam (which seriously reduces the river flow) and the old Duck Reach Power Station (the first hydro electric station in Australia).
Park you car car at the Hoo Hoo Hut and make your way down. The cache is half way down the bank in a more southerly direction of the lookout and as indicated by the terrain it is steep getting to the rocky outcrop.
Excellent views of the South Esk River and the water intake for the Duck Reach Power Station where the tunnel was drilled to a length of 850 metres at a 1 to 110 grade. The tunnel was cut through the hill side instead of being piped around and it took 16 months to complete.
Please only attempt this cache from the top of the outcrop.
Cache contains log sheet only, please bring your own pen

The compass wasn't helpful leading me to the east and lower than where I needed to be.
It was here where I went for a slide down a sloping rock taking a bit of skin off here and there....warning noted.
Looking to the west I could see a very large rock outcrop where I most likely needed to be but not sure if it was on top or underneath.
Climbing back up and heading west I could see a pile of stones only 30m away out against a tall rock....omg....how to get there?
As they say...nothing ventured nothing gained...so steadily climbed up and around under a towering rock face to be only 15m from gz.
A tricky spot here as needed to slide down a 1.5m section with nothing much to hang on to, mindfull of a vertical drop into Deadmans Hollow....very aptly named.
Once down, gingerly approached the pile of rocks with the ever present vertical drops on both sides.
Uncovered the rocks to find the cache with a big sigh of relief.
Now to get back up the tricky part....dislodged one small rock which gave a good foot hold and eventually scrambled up.
The climb out was pretty slow but so glad to get back to the geofourby.
This cache is definitely not for the faint hearted and a dose of mountain goat pedigree wouldn't hurt either...a fav.
Many thanks to Tassie Trekkers for all the latest caches...this one was a cracker.....thoroughly enjoyed....albeit nervously...cheers ST.
