Description

I've Cached Everywhere, Man - GCA Geocache Series
Murwillumbah

I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack. Coolangatta is mentioned in the first verse.

Murwillumbah is a town of 7500 people located in North East NSW, and is cut in two by the Tweed River.

Murwillumbah is a busy rural town, even though it was bypassed in 2002 and the Pacific Highway no longer runs through town. In 2004, the Casino-Murwillumbah rail line closed, which used to run a daily train to Sydney.

In 1907, most of the CBD burned down in an out of control fire.

Murwillumbah can claim home to the largest Aussie bank robbery, which happened in 1978. $1,763,000 in cash was stolen from the Bank of NSW (now Westpac). The crime was never solved, and the money never recovered.

The small lock and lock cache is located at a riverside park. It contains a logbook, pencil and some swaps.

The park this cache was hidden in is being landscaped at the moment, and it's hiding place doesn't exist anymore. I'll hide another one nearby when the work is finished.

The presistent rain over the last two days continued today and created very large pubbles at the bottom of the stairs. Hence, approaching from the top was essential today. The hint led to a quick find. Although very wet on the outside, the contents of the cache container were in good condition. TFTC.

We were heading down to M'bah to collect a frog and performed cache maintenance, when this cache came across our radar. Despite having several unfound caches close to home, we tend to keep Murwillumbah 'clear', so to speak - its a bit of a recreational hotspot for us.

We called into the park where we had previously identified GZ to be, parked the car and started to head towards the likely target. I should add we previously hadn't started up the GPSr, so we did so now. It took a long time to find any 'birds' and eventually it gave up, not a clear enough signal - wasn't great weather today. We 'forced it' to try to listen to the birds again, but didn't hold alot of hope and instead decided to rely on intuition and the clue. Fortunately, we succeeded, unlike the GPSr which only got satellite lock AFTER the cache was found and log signed.

This is a great little park and we've enjoyed many a picnic here. There was one advantage of the rainey weather in that it was intensfying the camphor smell in the carpark. I know, they are a pest but they have such a lovely fragrance.

Thanks for the cache MattyRX

I'll check on this one next week - sound like it could be gone. Crying or Very sad I've got a better container that might suit this style of hide.

Oops forgot to log this one. Had a look for this one with 4 other searchers but we couldn't locate it. Given the great hint, I'm pretty sure we were searching in the right hidey hole. Think this may need an owner check?

Very Happy I'm a geocaching beginner and I found this a wonderful place to visit. Plenty to see and do here - I'll bring a picnic next time. Great spot for kids and for adults too. A good hide! TFTC and the pathtag - my first!
