Description

Thredbo has the longest ski runs in Australia.

It has the steepest overall terrain of any ski resort in mainland Australia and also the highest lifted point (2037m ).

The highest lifted point is at the top of Karel's T-Bar.

The longest continual run is from the top of Karel's T-Bar to Friday Flat and is 5.9 km long; however, this is composed of several trails.

To claim your smiley, take a photo of yourself in front of the sign.

An example has been taken for you. ( Refer to the gallery)

NB: Do not attempt to ski or board from here if you are a beginner with little experience.

Photos taken in summer will also be accepted but you will have to walk up from Eagles Nest.

After yesterdays walk up to Mount Kosciuszko we came back up today and took a short stroll up to the top of Karel's T-Bar from Eagles Nest. Even though the original sign appears to have gone, there is now another sign up here stating "Australia's Highest Lifted Point" at 2037 metres. Thanks for the virtual tronador.

I visited the location with a bunch of other Canberran catchers, LuckyL10n, Sol De Lune, Lokipagan, Albidi to name some. Unfortunately I still haven't got the photo that LuckyL10n took of me in front of it with my GPS which is also my phone/camera. But I have added the attached photo of my shot of spo using my GPS camerat with the views bedside it. Enjoyed the entire visit to the area.

After the walk up to the top, we came here on the way down, even though we had to make a rather sharp ascent to get here. Thanks

Headed off for this one on the way back from the top. A good headwind kept us honest as we walked to the sign...and then while trying to stand there while the photo's were taken.

All was good though and the required photos were soon snapped and we were off to the chairlift to head down again.

No chance of getting here in winter, so glad to have the chance today.

Thanks tronador....

#GA434 - 14:40; It has been more than 30 years since my closest previous encounter with the summit of Australia's tallest mountain. On that occasion, I made it to Charlotte's Pass with the geohoney, but the mission was aborted due to approaching inclement weather. The climb has been on the bucket list ever since!

In more recent times, discussion of the climb has extended to my geobuddies and after one of them took on the planning, the day had finally arrived. I collected Albida33, Sol de lune and Agent Basil and we headed for the hills just after 7:00 am. We picked up a couple of GC caches on the way, before meeting up with MrDamage and lokipagan at Jindabyne for coffee, then heading on to Thredbo for the final assault.

Up, up, up in the chairlift we went, before heading off along a track which was proving to be quite popular with Canberrans and a few Victorians who had the day off for public holidays, while the folks from NSW had to work.

The headwind was quite strong on the outward journey and I had a bit of sympathy for some of the walkers returning back past us armed with walking poles which were not suited to the metal walking path. Persistence paid off and we reached the summit a tick under two hours from the top of the chairlift.

The tailwind on the return journey seemed to make things easier, so we decided to take a detour and grab this cache before jumping the chairlift back down to the village. Took the Dead Horse Gap track as the previous finder had done and likewise followed the maintenance trail along the chairlift to the top. After a long slog, it was a slow climb up, but we made it and the celebratory snaps were taken, despite the signs being in hibernation for the summer. An amazing *2TF* as well Dancing TFTC tronador Very HappyClan Cerberus

Heading back down after reaching the summit and we took the slight detour to collect this virtual. I had come to the area in January and we had planned on doing the dead horse gap walk then but took the wrong path and ended up getting to the south rams head trig instead! Happy to collect this one today. Thanks tronador

A FTF!!!

After doing the walk to Mt Kosciuzko did a short detour just before Eagles Nest to GZ. Easiest route was to follow the Dead Horse Gap track then follow the chair lift up. Found the sign missing, in fact most signs were gone. Suspect the resort management remove them after the season ends then place them back for the next season. Not much point leaving them there over summer when no-one will need to see them. Great view, thanks.
