Description

Shortest access is via the Groove Creek track...see maps and notes at.....billshep1.wordpress.com/

or you can continue on from the previous caches, depending on fitness.

This cache is at the northern end of a quite steep ravine area of the Wilmot River and very similar location to the cache Northern Gates on the Penguin Cradle Trail.

All logs and debris have now been cleared all the way to Spellmans Bridge.

A huge thank you must go to Bill Shepherd and Max Richardson who have spent many years in track building and on going maintenance. When Bill isn't spending 2-3 days per week

on the Dooleys trail network he's out rebuilding a bridge or two and clearing tracks all over the district. Many thanks also to Chris Dennis and others from the NWWC who help make

these trails available to us all.

Also, could Geocachers please note any fallen logs or debris across the track in their cache log as an aid to keeping the trails maintained.

Any possible help in maintenance would be greatly appreciated as well, as these trails cover a large distance and maintained only with limited volunteers.

The cache is a regular black container with log book, small swaps and pencil.

Enjoy the walk!

Another stoopid idea to tackle more of the Trail today. Laughing Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our walk today, my legs had other ideas though. This time downhill was as bad as uphill. Anyways, I battled on smacking fallen branches away from the track as best we could. We got as far as number 11 and called it a day and headed back for the grueling walk back up the mountain to the Ute. I tell you that last 100 metres is murder on the calf muscles!! Stabby

Sorry for generic copy and paste, too tired to think. Clan Cerberus

Found this whilst out and about with Trimbletas in search of GCA caches to get us on the board for the blitz games.
We decided to park at the groove creek carpark and walk from DHT #7 towards #15. there were numerous trees over the track and we never had a saw with us to clear them so we only cleared what we could, the track was very overgrown in places and after battling our way to #11 the decision was made that it was enough battling for today and we made our way back to the car.
on the way back i nearly walked straight on top of a tiger snake crossing the track, i did a good job to spot him before i would have stepped on him.

This one was also a quick find with aid of the hint. TFTC

Set out to do Dooleys Trail with Goose&Egg and Stainless steel rat, a beautiful area and worth a visit but not for the faint hearted if you do the entire trail at once I left a scout behind in all the caches that were big enough. There were a few spots this one could have been but it didn't take the group long to this one. tftc

A few ups and downs to get to this one with a large rock in the middle of the path as we made our way here, upon getting to ground zero it took us a few minutes to work out where the cache was, but all good in the end and we all added our names to the log before moving on again.

We came down the hill to this cache (ah yes, another hill to keep us entertained) and struggles to get an accurate signal. the hint confused us as we were not sure which bend the hint referred to. We spent a long time here looking, realizing we were still too high for it to have been washed away. Eventually we found it and yes the hint made perfect sense to us.
I picked up a hookline pathtag here. That made me very happy Very Happy

Nice easy find, thanks!

Should have made this trip tomorrow and then it would have been exactly 2 years to the day since the last find on this one. Cache location was predicted by our muggle daughter as we approached and she was right. Cache was still in excellent condition despite its 2 year rest. Then we continued to slog our way up the hill, still feeling pretty good at this stage. Thanks.

Found on our caravan and caching holiday to the North West coast, finding caches that had been published since our last vist and this was one of them.

Today we targetted 8 caches along this stretch of the trail. We parked at the car park for Secluded Falls and walked, skated and slid down the hill again. The first couple of caches were along relatively flat terrain and the track weaved beside the river. Evidence of recent track clearing was appreciated and today we noticed the ferns shooting new growth after the recent rain.

The terrain became steeper and challenging as we proceeded along the track engaging the mountain goat in us. 3 hours after we left the car park we arrived at Spellmans Crossing. Here we rested and had lunch ready for our return journey which saw us back at the car 6 hours after we left.

Thanks sirius for all the effort gone into placing these caches and clearing the track.

Since Sirius Tas published the next six Dooleys Heritage Trail caches we have wanted to visit. The Wilmot River Valley is one of our favourite walking spots because there is so much variety and the character of each area seems to change for every visit we make. Finally the "stars came into alignment" - no personal commitments and the promise of reasonable weather (occasional showers only). We headed off from the Groove Creek car park at 8:30am and were at the Wilmot River by 8:50am. We thought that we would get wet rear ends on the way down because of a large log over the track (we used to sit on the log to get over it). However, the hand of Sirius Tas was evident as part of the log had been removed to make an easy walkway - we really appreciate the track clearing. We were a little surprised at the river - the water level was still rather high but it was flowing quite sedately, not with the ferocity during our previous visit. It was a pleasant along the river flats until we came to a rather steep climb leading to this cache. The recent rain and loose gravel made the track a little slippery but, with care, we got to GZ without any difficulties. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find - FTF at 9:30am. The cache and it's contents were in good condition. Thanks Sirius Tas for another great cache in a wonderful series.
