Description
Cache hidden on the corner of two busy streets in the Melbourne CBD.
Location:
This is a very busy location along the intersection of two major city roads. This is probably one to do at night or during very quiet hours in order to preserve the secrecy of this cache. Perfect for a Sunday night in the city.
History:
The most striking feature of this location is the giant upended tram sculpture called Raising The Rattler by David Michael Bell. You may have seen his other public artworks around Victoria or you may have seen his props work in films like Book Of Revelations or Where The Wild Things Are.
The tram itself is a replica Class W tram – those iconic green and yellow trams that have almost entirely disappeared from the city. Introduced in 1923, they were the standard tram for around 60 years. Today, you’ll mainly find the handful of W Class trams on the free City Circle route or painted red and used as a moving restaurant. The modern class E trams pay tribute to the colour scheme with their own take on the green and yellow livery.

Way too many muggles to have a decent look.
Hopefully next time we visit this wonderful city we'll make time to look for this one again.
At least we could grab a find here with the GC virtual an easy one.
Thanks.
Thanks for this cache Squeakyfish. We enjoyed our visit to The Rattler.
Nearly ruined a great first date!
Out for an evening stroll in the city after a weekend keeping an eye on the kids while the better half escaped for some Mother's Day fun.
Thanks, squeakyfish... Well camouflaged hide on a fun piece of art.
GCA#386
I'll try again later.
It's been good looking at the Rattler close up.
TFTC squeaky fish.
I have been here before for a GC Multi and was suitably impressed with this structure.
I walked around it twice, once one way, then reversed it, and that's how it revealed itself to me. A very clever hide, and if I knew how to give you a favourite point for it, I would.
Thanks for pointing this out to folk who would otherwise not notice it, by placing the cache here?
And what a novel cache container, I've never seen them used for this purpose before.
Found a couple potential spots one could hide. Visiting from Perth WA
A nice find here today. We parked just up the street ( a rare car park find) and headed to this cache location. It took more than a few moments to locate the tricky cache, but there is really only one set of places to check so we resorted to the method approach and soon had the cache in hand.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks sqeakyfish for this geocache here today. Quite a nice camm job and it's still holding up well.

GAFF 1
We'll come back another time and have a look at it again.
Once at GZ, I circled and circled again, felt like I was circling the wagons.
Finally decided to stop and look carefully. I looked some more and then some more. Where's my torch when I need it. Finally spotted the well camouflaged container.
tufts squeaky fish.
As it turned out I was lucky and found fairly quickly.
Little easy to look round at 12:30am.
I signed and departed.

Well I can't say I was expecting to see that - you really can call anything 'art' these days! After inspecting it closely for 5 mins I spotted the slightly out of place item which was the cache!

With construction blocking access to my office 'til after 6:30 I thought the best option would be to stop in and grab a few caches in the city.
I usually drive past here a couple of times a week in the afternoon but there's always lots of muggles about and I can never find parking. An early morning visit means few muggles and plenty of parking (and it's free).
Once at gz it took me quite a long search with a break in between to rehide a moveable cache nearby before I found the sneaky little cache in a place I could have sworn I checked a couple of time already.
Thanks squeakyfish for the cache. I love big pieces of public artwork like this.
Like the art, enjoyed the cache and the hide. *Recommended*
Thanks squeakyfish....
I walked past the cache mid morning but the crowds were a bit too much so a return on the way back to my accommodation early evening gave me the perfect opportunity.
There's not many places a cache could hide here so it was as quick find and retrieve only to find some green ink at the top of the log sheet. Ill claim the 2TF slot.
Thanks squeakyfish.
Edit 06/04/15: The green ink at the top of the log sheet could have been written by the CO but it was a bit hard to read in the failing light. As no-one else has logged a find over the last six weeks I'm upgrading my log to FTF.
