Description

Lake Burley Griffin.....the big expanse of water in the centre of Canberra.  However, down this end of the lake is where the water is released when required.

An interesting spot to view the gates on the dam wall....and could be good to see when those gates are open.

As for the cache, you'll need to stand at the waters edge to made the find.    Try not to drop the log when opening the cache, or it will become rather soggy.

Enjoy the area......

Doing a longish bike ride today I came by this cache, which I did not have on my radar when I did the nearby GC a while ago.
This has been discovered by muggles. It is very much in the open these days (maybe winter or they cut something) in any case the container is fine but it needs a new lid and logbook. Left my signature and cache note right at the cache.

Out and about caching with Tassie Trekkers finding caches and this was one found. A nice area to wander in. TFTC

A few quick finds this morning as I got up an hour earlier then planned. Still dark so a torch was needed, but that made the finds easier I think.

Lovely morning to do some lakeside caches. Glad this was on this side as couple of kayakers were launching on other side. TFTC

Found with Joolay on an afternoon's caching adventure after attending 4 Events in the last 24 hours. This one wasn.t much fun traipsing through the blackberries and looking for a cache which obviously wasn't where it was supposed to be. Eventually the cry from Joolay came and lo and behold it was almost straight under my feet. After signing duties were complete it was returned to a spot in accordance with the hint. Gee Smittengranny and I had some trouble finding this. We perservered and then found the cache on the ground under dead grass. Looks like someone had broken the branches not realising. We signed the log and returned to tree. Hopefully for the next person to find. Nice spot to visit and quite cool under the trees which was lovely. The blackberries weren't though

Called in to check this one after my last DNF. Today found it very quickly (helps when it's there Smile ).

Looks like the area has been cleaned up a bit. Nowhere near as bushy as I remember.

Thanks

Watch out, blackberries!

Cache back in position and all good to go again.

Watch out though, the blackberries have grown a bit. Sad

Not doing well today - Did not spot this one, although probably my cache blindness.

First up this morning we headed to the National Arboretum and looked for a few caches in the area. We then went to the restaurant and met up with Sol de Lune and Luck L10n for morning tea. We had a very enjoyable time in a location with wonderful views back over Lake Burley Griffin and the surrounding suburbs. Our discussions ranged over many aspects of caching and then other things as well. By the end we had sorted out all the problems in the world - if only they would listen to us!! As we were about to leave Sol de Lune produced this cache as he was about to return it to its hide. We took the opportunity to log the find. Thanks Sol de Lune for the cache.

I picked up this cache on the way home after a lovely afternoon caching in Woden with Joolay and DarkSideDan. Joolay and I pulled in and stopped to enjoy the beautiful views over the lake on a spectacular Canberra winter arvo. Cache found without falling in the lake or getting caught up in the blackberries. Cache in good condition. Thanks again SDL - Gift Box 2 grabbed Smile

A very easy find... probably helped by the lack of leaves in winter. a great view of the lake in the late afternoon sunshine. Thanks

A very appropriate name for this cache. Much bigger container than expected and it was spotted as we approached.
The short geotrail guided me to this one although there are a few nasty blackberries on it.
Thanks.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1347. Found during an after work visit in the area. This really is a lovely area - nice view of the lake and dam here.

On a mission to grab some GCA Trads and cross them off the list. Today I picked this one, and came after work today for the find (an early mark from work today as I'm off to Alice Springs tomorrow for the Red Centre Experience Event and then an epic trip after that). Another trad to add to the dragonZone tally ! Yay Cerberus !

Hot on the heels of a similar cache nearby, I honed in on GZ, noticed a geotrail, and followed... Knowing what to look for made the find instantaneous.. if a little precarious in recovery!

I had time for a bit of afternoon caching so went and found one GC and these four GA's. Nothing got wet but it was a fun after noon.

Thanks

Was finally knocking off my nearby Nemesis RAN cache (insert Yay) and noticed this was nearby. Managed to do the log bit without falling in so that was a bonus. One sluice gate open today!

Found on a beautiful Canberra morning to make the most of a period of no college assignments! Nice to see some more SdL GCA caches in Canberra - my first since the Western Bulldogs won the premiership! Once we got to GZ, we were a little bit confused on where the cache would be, but after working our way through the grass, the cache was in hand - brilliant hide! Lovely little spot. TNLNSL. #GA1063 - 17:35; I was at the movies last night when these were published, but it was past my bedtime by then anyway. No such problem this afternoon, although the weather looked threatening and there were a few showers on and off as I made my way around the CO's newer caches and a couple of slightly older ones. It was nice to be back on flat ground after a couple of hilly hides. Parked in the carpark and headed over through the long grass towards GZ. The boots got wet and I took the access through the blackberries, but managed a quick find. Care is needed with this one as things could get damp very quickly if you drop the log. Not a bad evening for a drive, especially if there are caches to be found.
We all piled into the car, Black Bunny, me, and three large dogs, and off we went.
Lots of lovely lights to see - Canberra looks all right in the dark.
*FTF*
Thanks Sol for the caches and the evening's entertainment.

Not a bad evening for a drive, so with some new caches to be found we piled into the car and off we went.

Pulled up near GZ and after a short walk we soon had the cache in hand. *FTF* with Just a cacher

Thanks for the caches and the evening drive Sol.
