Description
Cache has a log, biro and swaps.
This cache is in remembrance of an old fishing mate who fished the Rapid River long before roads were built. 'Shorty' got me into fishing some 43 yrs ago. He had an old short wheelbase Landrover which he drove across the buton grass plains past Luncheon Hill to the bush edge where we would pack our gear down into the Rapid River approx. 1km below the existing crossing. His fishing skill was legendary. He often took his daughters fishing too. One Sunday he came into camp sporting a 7lb blackfish...the biggest I've ever seen. Needless to say Shorty had my attention so I went with him on future trips. Those trips were unbelievable and treasured for ever. I'm sure Shorty's spirit is alive and well along the Rapid River. Please enjoy!...drop a line in if you have a licence of course...good luck.

Well the important thing was to first sign the cache (oh look marbles, never seen them before )
I looked round for a way up with not joy, i'm sure in the dry it would be easy but not today is all i'll say, in the end Tazscout braced herself against a tree and I used her feet as hand holds.
Thanks for a great cache and I got to enjoy the views even if no-one else did.
A quick find by Toolbox whilst I was waiting for the GPSr to settle.
A nice place and interesting to see that logs get put anywhere by floodwaters.
Thanks for the cache!
We made our way down to the river bank. Mr Y'stassie made his way along the track above while Mrs Y'stassie walked along the waters edge. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery, the gentle babble of the water and the breeze in the trees on a clear, sunny day. Mrs Y'stassie had to scramble to get to GZ while Mr Y'stassie had a gentle walk. We stood on the rock platform near GZ and looked around mesmerized by the beauty of the area. We feel that Shorty's spirit is probably camped nearby. Some photos have been added to the Gallery so that we can share the beauty of the area with others.
There is evidence of the destruction caused by recent floods on the bank opposite but this side remains untouched.
As we surveyed the area we spotted what we thought was the hide about 4m away in a place that fitted the hint. We explored the site but didn't find the cache. Further exploration of the spot was needed before we found a well hidden cache container. Cache and contents were in excellent condition. After signing the blank log we took our time rehiding the container then made our way back following the track above the river bank. A group of 6 under 5's was having a lovely time on the edge of the river throwing rocks into the river.
Thanks Sirius Tas for sharing this special place and your special memories with us and other cachers and for providing us with another memorable caching experience. We feel privileged to be the {FTF} of this magic cache.
A note for future searchers: stand at GZ and look around - the hint will get you there as long as you can identify the correct tree.
