Description

CCC25 - The Hieroglyph Wall

The hieroglyph wall is a wall of hieroglyphs hidden away inside the business area bounded by Harbour Esplanade, La Trobe Street and Digital Drive. The GPS signal is notoriously bad inside the narrow concrete channels that run between the buildings, so a nice hint is provided should you find that your GPS is leading you astray. The geocache location is not particularly wheelchair friendly as there are steps at GZ and bushes which are likely to get in your way. Apart from that the geocache should be an easy find and there is no need to put foot into any garden bed for your retrieval. Please try and rehide the geocache well before you leave so it’s not accidentally discovered. The geocache you seek is a brown 200ml sistema container. You know what the hieroglyphs say? Kids here are OK.

No luck for me today.

I found more brown leaves than anything.

Hopefully it is still safe.

I'll return one day.

The GPS was the opposite of helpful on this hunt, the concrete bounced it around like a ping pong game from hell. We dug it out eventually, with help from the hint. We signed and hid it again, safe and sound. Thanks for the hide, bud Very Happy - Josie & Abby

There were a few muggles nearby but they nicely hidden by the gardens. The caches would be nearly impossible during working hours.
Thanks caughtatwork for the cache.

Thanks for the cache Caught at Work

I work very close to this one and have been trying to get a moment to have a look for it.

Finally found it on the way back from a stroll to wake up on night shift.

cheers

I travelled back home to SA from Perth for family reasons and decided that Melbourne is only a short hop from Adelaide, so I logged an attendance at the Parkville Mega event and headed over for 5 days in Melbourne. I hired an E bike and had it for 4 days so was able to get around to many places and grab lots of caches as well as biking from the Youth Hostel in North Melbourne to Parkeville which was only a short ride. I arrived Thursday arvo and headed into the cbd from North Melbourne for a quick look around and then back to the Hostel I was too early to pick up the bike so jumped on a tram and headed to the docklands and grabbed some caches in the area. I can not believe how much the CBD and docklands has changed since we were here about 5 years ago. This cache was a very easy find even though there were muggles wandering by constantly. Clever hide and still in good condition. Thanks for bringing me here and to the cache Caughtatwork. ClappingClan Minotaur

There were a lot of white rocks here, so that made the search with toy hunters fun! LaughingLaughingLaughing TFTC C@W! Clan Cerberus

Found with jinxed13 on our holiday to Melbourne. After watching the Doggies win against the Blues, we walked around Docklands to get more of the CCC caches...despite the patchy rain and wind. At GZ it took a few minutes of searching before we found the right spot. Awesome artwork here. TNLNSL. TFTC C@W!

Out for an evening stroll in the city after a weekend keeping an eye on the kids while the better half escaped for some Mother's Day fun.

Wow... what an interesting place... I'll have to bring the kids through here.

Thanks, C@W.

Another trip to Melbourne with a few hours to fill in before loading passengers and returning home via the long road.
Today was planned as a caching day around part of the Docklands area followed by a long slow lunch.
Second stop and this one had me walking back and forth on the stairs for a minute, or so.
Eventually the cache hide was spotted and signed.

Thanks again.

#GA1926 - 16:22; Day two of a caching mission to Victoria with Sol de lune. Our major goal for the week was to complete the SSS and other series along the Western Freeway/Ring Road and to then collect enough GCA caches around Docklands to bring our total finds for the day to 100+ which would build our trophy cabinets a bit more as we complete a few more 'missions'. After 82 finds in just under 6 hours along the various series, we collected number 83 on the way out and had now reached Docklands where we continued the mission, which picked up where I had left off a couple of weeks ago and where Sdl left off in January. I passed this one on my last visit, but didn't spend too much time due to a nearby vehicle. No problems today though with some assistance from Sdl who found it in January making for a quick find today. Apologies again for the mostly generic logs. TFTC caughtatwork Very HappyClan Cerberus

Planning for this trip began in June - we knew we would be heading to Adelaide but which way would we go? This depended on our targets. We looked at our list of unclaimed Dragon Zone trophies and picked out several that we could feasibly collect the required number of finds to qualify for the trophy. We then had to identify caches that would meet our targets and from here it was time to plan a route that would take us past the caches we had identified. Any caches too far off our route were discarded and replaced by suitable alternatives.

All was running smoothly until the Christmas in July game was announced. We would be travelling in the latter part of the game. It was difficult to include this in our target caches as we did not know what was required. Once the game began and we understood what we needed to do we could then add other caches to the target list.

We were just getting our heads, yes all four of them, around this when more Dragon Zone trophies were added. Which ones could we meet and which should we ignore? Do we need to add more GA caches and/or do we need to change our route and our targets? We decided on our target list and then our route and timeline. We had just drawn a line under everything and were about to begin printing our caching booklets, route maps and target lists when caught@work published 23 new caches on the Western Ring Path. Earlier we had decided on the caches in the Edgewater Walk series. If we added the new ones on the Western Ring Path and as many of the CCC series as possible, we could probably reach the required number of caches to qualify for the Dragon Zone trophies “Restraining Order Stalker” (Find 100 DZ caches hidden by the same cacher) and “Obsession!=Insanity” (find 50 DZ caches in a day). As the latter would give us our first Blaze Trophy, it was decided to alter everything to include the CCC series.

We usually head out of the Melbourne CBD as soon as we disembark from The Spirit of Tasmania as we do not enjoy city caching. If we were going to tackle the CCC series we would have to start in Docklands, then move to Edgewater walk and the Western Ring Path. Caches in these series also carry nice points for the Christmas in July game. New lists drawn up, alterations made to the route and maps. New line drawn and printing and collating begun. No major changes now (unless something significant gets published just before we leave – we cannot be too inflexible when caching is involved).

It has been some time since we have cached in the Docklands area and our first impression was the large areas of development which have taken place. This development seemed to have impacted on satellite signals as both our GPS units were quite erratic and, in general, took quite some time to settle. The detailed hints were very much appreciated as it enabled us to start searching without waiting for the GPS to settle and so made searching more efficient.

The GPS settled quickly here and Mrs Y'stassie sat on the steps to sign the log. She was startled by a nearby voice saying "You found the cache then. You have to be careful with that one as there are rats in the bushes." No rats were seen. After a chat with a friendly federal policeman - she hadn't noticed who occupied the nearby building - she was able to replace the cache and was informed that there was another one nearby, "up there". By the way we loved the wall.

Thanks caught@work for this cache and all the caches you have placed around Docklands. And yes we are practising for our dissertation.

This was a very quick find for us, probably the quickest of the day. TFTC

So, this was where I ran into a couple of cache chasers, and managed to arrive just after the cache had been replaced, so a somewhat easier find then my previous ones, but a find just the same. Signed the log, out of view of the Border Protection Officer who outside on a smoke break (by the look of it) and then replaced the cache as he was looking the other. Obviously nothing escapes the attention of these guys..... Doh . (4 from 5 now....)

From here, my planned route took to through the 'rainforest'....and another somewhat quick find....

Thanks for this one caughtatwork Clapping .....an interesting wall, sadly none of which meant anything to me. Brick WallBrick Wall
