18/10/21 Find #5072
Fangsoki and I checked out of our Cairns accommodation this morning, and began our journey to Atherton, where we will be staying for the next couple of days. We headed off the main road and around for these older caches along here on our way.
The name of this one had me quite interested, as I currently have Burt the Platypus travelling with me for my kindy kids at work, and they are loving receiving updates on his adventures. We drove up to this one, and I will admit I was hoping for a sign to state we were at Platypus Rock, but unfortunately no luck. We headed around to find the cache - a quick find, however the cache was missing its lid and hidden under a black pot plant pot, and the logsheet in its resealable bag was just tucked behind this rather than inside. With log signed, it was time of course to climb up the rock before heading back to the turn of sign for Burt to get his photo taken.
Thanks for the cache Danielc.

1MinnieMoo and I were in the area and decided to grab this old cache on the way to Atherton.
We parked up and made our way toward GZ. Thankfully, we found the cache safe. However, we found the cache (without a lid) in a plant pot.. and the log in a bag was actually behind said pot. Not sure what's happened there. 1MinnieMoo put the log into the container and hid it as found as otherwise.
A nice excuse for a stop. This cache is currently the 539th oldest active cache in Queensland (three other caches were hidden on the same date). TFTC Danielc

Renewed container. Please replace with cover to make it harder for white tailed rats.
Great place for a cache but the container needs replacing its full of holes if I had one with me I would have replaced it. Found with justafan1107 T.F.T.C
What a beautiful place for a geocache. The trees are soo tall.
In the area for a quick visit.

Decided to find some caches after hiking Kauri road. Have camped here before and found cache quickly. Has huge holes in it and needs replacing. Tftc
I don’t know who got the biggest fright me or the spider anyway signed the log replace it in its original position which is a very sneaky place and hard to see…..
A bit disappointed we didn’t bring the abseiling gear with us when we walked to the top of the rock! Following the GPS took us directly to this one. Although the container is intact, the contents are mostly dirty, wet and slimy. Thanks to whoever put the new, clean log sheet in, well protected by 2 intact plastic bags which meant we were able to sign the log.
We left Cairns yesterday and although we were hoping to stay at Lake Tinaroo, we ended up at Tolga because all the caravan parks we contacted were booked out. It’s a shame, because although Tolga is nice, it’s not the same as camping here on the water. We enjoyed doing the “geo tour” of the lake, finding caches and checking out the views as we went. A nice variety of hides in some lovely spots kept us interested and busy for the day.
TFTC and thanks to all the CO’S for developing and maintaining the caches in this beautiful spot. Your efforts are appreciated.

11.6.21 Caz53 thanks for the bush walk! The log was totally saturated so we have replaced it in dry freezer bags inside box!
On a day of caching and 4wheel driving around tinaroo. Checked out this cool little spot and climbed the rock (well not “The Rock”) where they do some basic abseiling. Lovely camping areas in the vacinity as well. TFTC
Came back for a second time and found it super quickly. It’s “off the beaten path”
Found with orth71 on a trip from Townsville to Tablelands for a week of caching.
Photo from the top of the rock , but not this rock.

What a funny name for the cache. On the way in, there is a nice little sandy hill for 4WD fans. We made it halfway up and then decided to take the apparently less dangerous way back down, but still good fun. The cache was a bit hard to find with all the trees blocking good GPS signals. After several rounding of the lesser rocks we made it out eventually. Best thing is to catch the signal on top of the rock.

Found with MonkeyMann007 on our day of reliving our youth and run amok times around Tinaroo
Well hidden when the phone position is playing up but we found it! TFTC. Taped up some holes in the container and popped in a texta for log as pen was playing up

Only to find a couple of skool teachers throwing their students off the rock [:o]
Well at least the students had rope attached [^]
These teachers must have a far higher tolerance for their students than most
Lucky for me the tossing kids off a cliff session was ending,
so I had the place to meself for a quick cache find
TFTC ,,, no playpi seen [:o]

TFTC. We are housesitting in Mareeba for the next 2 months and intend to explore the are using caching as a guide. School Holidays have finished and it seemed a good time to explore the area around Lake Tinaroo.
That certainly is one large rock near GZ. A great lookout point. Found the cache without too much effort.

Came prepared for this one & replaced damaged cache. Quick find, another great spot, TFTC 0
a lovely place, we loved exploring all these super campsites. I guess this rock is used for abseiling practice - lots of fun. ( if I remember correctly this cache is the one we found today which has been chewed by a little native animal - prhaps its time for a new container.)Tftc.
Still biding our time before heading down to Cairns for a 7 week house sit, so checked out a few nearby caches. Climbed the rock, checked out the paths and found @10.48 after breakfast beside the beautiful lake. Thanks
What a cool name this place has, just had to here on our trip around the lake. Unfortunately the road was closed to repair and we couldn't complete the drive. Anyway jr and I went of to get this one. I grabbed the TB.
