As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.
I'm pretty sure this one has been muggled, either by people or by the rat living in the hidey hole. Will replace it once things settle down a little in the area, few too many schoolies around atm.
Hey Smurf,
How about disabling this cache until you either confirm its there or do some maintenance on it?
Otherwise maybe an archive is in order.

Well we looked around the nearest tree as GZ seemed to point to being 30 away in the water? We ducked and weaved, poked and prodded. Certainly lots of foliage - no worries about that - but no cache. Seeing as it hasn't been found in ages, maybe Cannibal Smurf needs to pay a visit and confirm the co-ords are correct and the cache is still in tact? Very hot day for caching on the coast. ...eatmorchikin & Stigglepot
Tried to find this a year ago, thought I'd have another shot.
No luck. Is it still there??

A great bit of history, and a lovely park, free of muggles when visited, but alas, unable to find the cache, despite lots of scratching (and scratches) and some guidance from Cannibal, rain eventually curtailed the search. Probably needs some maintenance.
Well....sort of found it. After a long (over 1 hour) search of the area clearing debris and leaves for about a 50 metre radius I did the un-manly thing and asked "Cannibal Smurf" for help. I sent a close up photo by phone of the spot I thought it would be. It seems I was in exactly the right place as confirmed by Cannibal Smurf but even after another 2 looks using a torch, camera with flash and quiverring hand I still couldn't find it - at least not physically. Cannibal Smurf gave me it as a find. YAAAAHHH! Nice walk in the park on a beautiful day. Thanks for the cache... apparently there will be a bit of maintenance over the next couple of days.
On holiday from California with SongMonk. We're pretty confident we were at the right location. SongMonk bravely searched for the cache; I was deterred by a spider. Unfortunately, we came up empty.
Found the initial location, no problem, of course. Calculated the new coordinates and found the very likely cache location. Matched up with previous logs and would have been an excellent cache location. However, we could not find the cache.
Was started by a mouse running away. And a big spider!

I worked out the offset but I'm not sure if my calculations were correct but the area looked likely.
After 15 minute search and after reading the previous logs I decided to give the owner a call. He corrected my search area and I found the cache in under 5 minutes.
The area was vacant at the time but evidence of the previous inhabitant/s was visible, including a shopping trolley with clothes in it.
At the owners request I removed the outer wrapping of plastic bag and returned the cache. I also removed the Pilsen - Redyne Geocoin (photocopy).

My GPSr constantly pointed about 15 meters in the water. I checked the calculation three times, but couldn't find an error. I searched in that area, but finally gave up. The park was nice though, and it was good to have the coords of a parking place where you can leave the car longer than 2 hours
Did not have a lot of time to poke around so gave up after a short search. Even the homeless muggle did not know where to look. He did say that an 'old couple' came a couple of weeks ago and looked every where. On to the next one.
Even tho we got to GZ, we couldn't actually get to the cache as a homeless muggle is using the "area" as his spare room, and really didn't feel right picking through his stuff. Pity we aren't from the GC and can't try for this one again.
Thanks for the help Cannibal Smurf. You might need to look into the placement of this one, and check that no-one is using the cache as a lunchbox.
Got us out of the resort and poking around the local area....thanks.

Attempted to find this cache 4 times while on holiday in the gold coast. Unfortunately due to the homeless men and their gear present in the area and being a lone female I was never able to actually find the cache. Its a nice area but I think the cache should be moved around the park, away from where the homeless people are storing their gear. Thanks
I returned and by now I knew the Major at tent city. Even though I am white fella, no problems.
Found the cache in one of the 2 possibilities. Damn good hide. Just as well though as it was metropolis.
I left and told the Major I will be back for another look. No problems he said as he generated the copious smoke signals...... I said it was probably washed away in the river. I also mentioned it could be on Jupiter. He knew that Planet. He smiled - perhaps he was an astronomer too [?]
Clear skies and TFTC Cannibal Smurf from TeamAstro. [^]
Accompanied with Team Astro for the day. Finally found it excellent hide spot. SL. Thanks Cannibal Smurf for organising the cache and hunt.
Muggled off by a tent city set up on day 1. Don't you hate that when the check sum checks... Can you believe it. Right at GZ. The other flag was flying, and there were quite a few tents. Smoke signals too. The works. Never saw the porta-loo so who knows about GZ
Clear skies, TeamAstro.
found after quite a hunt....nobody home today...
Coords seemed a bit out but that added to the fun.
Thanks for the cache Cannibal Smurf.

The only cache within walking distance of our accommodation. I found WP1 no worries, but couldn't work out how to read the formulae - the only way I read it, the numbers were negative.
Took a punt on a likely place, but after searching several similar spots, gave Brendan a call. Believe it or not, I had actually been concentrating my search in the right spot. Even so, and with what seemed like more than adequate guidance from Cannibal Smurf, I couldn't find it, eventually forced to quit by the onset of darkness and impatience. It'll have to wait until next visit (although it is 5 years since my last visit).
Anyway, a remarkable bit of history. What would I do in that situation? I would have jumped up several metres in the air and spread myself out over a wide area, as is customary I believe.

Tried to find this one after completing the GC Half Marathon.
I'm pretty sure I was searching in the right spot. I fired off an SMS to the owner for an extra hint or two but had moved on when I received a reply.
Thanks for that - I will search again next time I'm in town!

Really good offset cache, not too hard with the calcs, tried to find it as the light & wife were failing badly, with just a cell phone for illumination. Had to go & get help from owner & a torch. Thanks Brendon!
Area great to search, bit spooky in the dark, but no drug equipment however, obviously some where else.
Reading 2 books about the military at the moment--Jason Bournes latest--Bourne Betrayal--(great read)& Warrior Brothers, a story about an Oz SAS soldier, so this cache was quite real to me after reading the story of the soldier this cache was about---Thanks!!

We found the park and did the best with the info we had but no luck, so SMS'd the owner - a great help, so we found the tree but not the cache. Unfortunately, the area is not very kidsafe - within the surrounding confines we found alot of nasty stuff including used condoms and toiletries; needles, a pair of sharp scissors (hidden) and a smallish, sharp crowbar fell down and hit me on the head. Be careful as we feel it is a depository for a number of things. We were pretty sure we had the right spot, but obviously not!
Had to visit Surfers today so thought I would attempt this one. Worked out the coordinates but when I went searching I came across a backpack hidden right where I wanted to look. I wasn't game to touch or move it in case its owner turned up! Spoke to Cannibal Smurf to check I was in the right area. Will come back another time and check again.
Despite the SMS help - thank you, could not locate. Did however find a used needle - so be careful.
Found on a Gold Coast caching day with geo-uncle Lat&Long Junkie. I"d sent for help via sms to Cannibal Smurf. After an hour looking in every root of these trees I'd had enough. Lucky Lat&Long Junkie put in one last effort as he came up with the goods. Well done. Very good hide you sneaky smurf. TFTC
I wrote in the log, "If I find nothing else today, I'll be happy with this one.". That's how good it felt to come up with it [^]. Geonephew "Bedmaker" and I spent the best part of an hour searching, sorting, sweeping, ducking, poking, weaving and generally cleaning up. Sure hope those homeless folks appreciate our efforts [xx(]. My GPSr put us between trees, so we shared them, we swapped them and then concentrated on the bigger one. After a think about what the GPSr said at WP1, we moved to the other tree. This is when Bedmaker sent an SMS to the owner. With no reply, we decided to give up . I was enmeshed in fig tree aerial roots at the time, poking desolately with a piece of metal I'd found, when that wonderful "something isn't right here" feeling/sound occurred . With much shouting and wriggling, I brought forth the treasure. We handled it like some precious artifict from an ancient tomb [:X][:X][:X]. After reverently signing the log, it went back as it was for the next contortionist/cacher to find . Speedily SMSed the owner to say, "we got it" and headed off to find a comet. It was about then that 'cannibal smurf' SMSed back to congratulate us and we made arrangements to meet after lunch. Only because we'd found this one, did we decide to be nice to him. Otherwise, it might have been a more "physical" rendezvous .

A DNF at 0630 this morning. Interesting tale about the officer. Only one person sleeping over and on the other side of the park. After reading the logs, it looks like we were in the right place but will just have to do more ducking and weaving on our next visit.
Finally found it, on the fourth or fifth visit... was pretty sure I was in the right spot, and didn't have a 4 year old helping this time so I thought I'd find it, but couldn't come up with the goods. Time to phone a friend, who got me sorted out pretty quickly, and I found it in a spot I hadn't searched properly the first three times... Thanks Cannibal Smurf, happy to cross "Smurfin' Where-the-hell am I?" off the list!
Took Pangula's Durham Cathedral Travel Bug.

Our gz coords had us in the water but when I read someone else had the same result I felt ok. We looked at the nearby likely spot - actually we spent an hour looking. We found a harmonica, keyring and a toothbrush along with lots of bottles and other assorted odds and ends unfortunately though not the cache. Thanks Cannibal Smurf
My coordinates were also in the water but then again they were off for the plaque as well. A correction led me to a likely hiding spot but there were signs of regular habitation and although I poked around I couldn't come up with the prize.
After the parking problems on my last visit, I left the geomobile on the other side of the bridge this time, where there is plentiful parkin'
Heading once again toward the blue glass pinnacle that forms a backdrop to the park, I made a beeline for the hiding spot
A quick recce and I found that there was nobody around except for a half dozen council workers mucking around with a crane nearby
Following the clue carefully, I began to feel like I was in a movie I saw once. Gracefully sliding between the laser beams in order to avoid setting off the alarms before grabbing the prize from it's pedestal
After 15mins of weaving, the jewel was mine
TFTC and history. I stole the 'Wonder's Thief Geocoin' from the cache

The cache site was located without trouble.
The cache proved more difficult to find.
I seemed to be in the right place, and I contorted several times around the.................but I couldn't find it.

A nice spot to take a break. Had to use 4WD to access my parking spot though. Someone put a spoon drain in the way
After reading the plaque and copying the coords incorrectly into the GPS I found a very likely spot for a cache in a fig tree
After 15mins or so without a find and no signs of homeless muggles having been there I double checked everything. Oh!
Back across the bridge and into the park and the search began anew. I looked around one tree without success, even though the evidence of residency and needles were there. I began to suspect that if you find this evidence then you are in the wrong spot
I then wandered over to a much more likely spot nearby. After a bit of a scrambling around, I noticed a muggle sitting quietly on the other side of the tree [:o]
Oops! Time to give up on this one
I can see this one will be tricky!! Thanks for the history and fun. Nice view of a BIG, shiny bit of architecture from the park too [^]

Ok bf, went back and took some more co-ords. They sit right next to the ones you should have when I punch both sets into GoogleEarth (E was only .002 difference). Try putting them in there, then go look where it says.... the maps are pretty good in that area. Both measurements were taken on overcast days so I will go back yet again on a nice sunny day and get a third reading.
Didn't see any needles around but it was getting dark. There are none where the cache is anyway, I would have seen them the other day.
How far out into the water was your GPS pointing you? Remember the 10m rule...plus the trees. Stand in the middle of the park and see where it points and how far, maybe some triangulation from a few points.
Maybe read the clue and look around for a scenario that is fitting to the clue?

Spent an hour searching for this one without any luck. The GPS had GZ in the water and the tree coverage didn't help. I'll try again once the co-ord have been checked. Please note, there are a lot syringes in amongst the trees, take care when poking around.
Headed put to grab this cache unfortunately we came away empty handed.
The GPS kept trying tho take us into the water, the closest likely hiding spot was quickly searched but very hesitantly as it was a homeless camp with belongings hidden along with empty bottles.
We will try again another time.

Will drop in next time I'm close by and double check the co-ords. GoogleEarth shows them as pretty close. It did take me about 5+ mins to find it the other day when I was there... and I hid the thing
Dropped on today to check and make sure it's still there and safe. Sorry zactyl... it's there.
There was a group of people sitting near GZ, looking like they might be getting settled in for the weekend. Will have to come back another time.
Bundy's were downed and the party dispersed, but I was not able to find the cache. Probably because I wasn't looking in the right place, GPS was not cooperating and I had 87m accuracy
