Think the lantana might have claimed this one. I did however find an abandoned car, perhaps stolen. Have reported it to police.
PB1973 I found your cache Forest History # 1 on 31/7/2023, 12:20 pm. This is my find 5919 and find # 7 today. Found the entrance to the forestry track at -26.261172, 152.72766. Followed this all the way to GZ. Searched around for half an hour or more before my walking pole hit something not natural to the bush. Yes it’s the cache. Opened it up and all good inside. Signed the dry logbook and returned to the same place. Thanks for the cache, mate! TNSLLN
Spent about 20 mins searching where I think GZ was and all around it but no luck. Will try again with friends.
By far. The hardest one so far. I bled for that one. But got it on my second try
Cache found without any issues, Although the log was quite soggy and will need to be replaced at some point, But thanks for the dive it was well enjoyed!
Well, finally the weather has decided it will allow us a few days of dry camping (not totally dry, there WILL be a few lagers involved! ).
Our target area is Gympie and a few rural spots northwest.
Quite a haul in to GZ but once here this was a quick find by Mr VC.
Despite the cache standing on it's head & the seal being intact the inside was soaked! [?]
Managed to scrawl VC on the sodden log (IN a baggie) but a maintenance visit is needed here.
Made our mark & replaced as found.

Had an enjoyable time with the SPREGTH (for Snickersallan, Patrol14, RoddyC, E_Smiley, GrannySmith1947, TMZ59 and Hatzofff) Team. So happy to meet them again just like the good old days.
Thanks for the cache powellbruce. Glad TMZ59 waited. My car and I would have been a picture of wreck! LOL. Happy to be a passenger on this route.

Catching up on some logging today, so a bit of a generic log, I'm afraid.
I was caching with Snickersallan, Patrol14, hatzofff, E Smiley, grannysmith1947, and TMZ 59, giving rise to the team name of SPREGTH. Although not fully operative yet, I was able to tag along to most of the caches we found. Some Events brought us into this area.
Very interesting drive to this one - on a very wet track, but only needed 4WD for the return trip. A 2WD would never make it to GZ.
Log signed and cache replaced as found on May 2nd 2021. TFTC, PB1973.

Day two of our long weekend away at Platypuscove Homestay caching in the local district with geo friends, patrol14, RoddyC, E_Smiley, grannysmith1947, TMZ59, hatzofff and to save space on the logs, we signed as Team SPREGTH.
Nice drive into the forest to get to this one before the heavens opened. Found very quickly due to the great hint.
Also, had my first ever 4WD lesson today and managed to get back out onto the highway unscathed, phew!

27/2/21 Find #4582
Today was a Sunny Coast outing for Fangsoki, Pprime, Crew153 and I, gathering caches in the Oldest 1000.
Pulling up here for our second cache of the day, we all got out, and while three of us “took the high road”, Crew153 took the low road, and the cache was quickly found by Crew153, with Fangsoki taking a little more of a wander to check out the old site.
Thanks for the cache PB1973.

Out today for a run around the Sunny Coast hunting oldies, with Fangsoki, Crew 153 and 1MinnieMoo. An awesome day poking into some nooks and crannies of the area and finding some outstanding views. Here was a great spot, with an apparently interesting past, and great views along the way, although much forestry coverage looking out here.
Thanks powellbruce for entertaining me at this location.

Pprime put out a late call on Friday for passengers for his quick run around a few targeted caches on the Sunshine Coast. Fangsoki, 1MinniMoo and I put up our hands.
This was the second find on the list and after winding through the forest we arrived close to the cache location with a few tracks available heading in the right direction.
I managed to be on the right path and came up with the cache sitting in the open.
We signed the log and I returned the caches into the SPOR.

We parked up about 70mtrs from GZ although we could have driven right to it. The cache was located, log signed and replaced as found. We left a TB for the next finders. The road in was fine in our 4wd I wouldn’t try it on my 2wd. All good wth the cache. Thanks powellbruce for the adventure.
Our last visit here on 20/6/18 it was unfortunately a DNF but today we found two caches!! First we spied the replacement cache and signed the log, then a few meters away we found the original cache nicely tucked away. All contents in good condition and dry so signed log and returned as found. Good to turn this one into a smile.TFTC PB1973
man. what as trip for the Peugeot 306. bit hectic in few spots and had to back track to get out. bit of an adventure thanks for the cache
Short detour for a quick find on the way to Mothar Mountain Rock Pools. Thanks for the cache
I had received a message from the CO to say that he had replaced this cache as he could not find the old one either. As I was in the area, I decided to stop by. After all, I had previously found the easy way in to this one. I took the familiar route and soon arrived at the spot I had parked at last time. I parked the geomobile in the same spot and took a short stroll to GZ. The first thing I noticed was that the area had been tidied up since my last visit: the old mangy mattress was gone and so were the fluro lights. There was no rubbish lying around at all. The area looks so much nicer now. Time to search for the cache. I looked in all the places I had looked last time, but my phone was telling me a slightly different spot this time. Hmmm....what is that??? I grabbed a stick and flicked something away. That is not what the CO had told me I was now looking for!! Excitedly, I opened it to discover it was the original cache!! I added my name to the log and returned everything to the way it was found before heading on my way. I didn't find the replacement cache that the CO had placed, but was more than happy to have found the original cache and collect a nice amount of unloved days. TFTC
A failed attempt to gain access from one direction. Not to be beaten, I tried from the other direction. Success!!!....and a lovely drive through the bush I parked the geomobile and made my way to GZ. There, I searched and searched....and searched some more. No luck. I will be back to try again another day.....but a CO check might bee in order.
Although this one hadn't been found for a long time - we decided to give it a go. Thoroughly enjoyed the drive through the forest along a decent track before parking up and walking the last 70 meters to GZ. Lots of rubbish left around here but obviously there's nobody living here anymore. Search for quite some time before leaving defeated - hopefully the next cacher will have more luck.
Amazing veiw from up top. No rock walls left. 3 dead pigs on the side of the track and great to read a log book thats ten years old!!!
We found our way up to this "lookout" while visiting Woondum state forest after the national park. The road up was good in the Pajero, not too rough but you probably wouldn't want to bring a low profile car up here.
It was a little creepy as we approached due to the humpy-type dwelling erected very close to gz. It did not seem like anyone was there but we made our visit short in case the inhabitant/s were sleeping and might jump out at any second.
The good sized cache was found as per the description and swaps made.
Not much of a view from the top due to the foliage, so the tower that used to be here would have been very useful to get a better look at the surrounding forests.

Watching the idiot box last night discussing my upcoming week and on the spur of the moment decided I would go for a drive tomorrow. ( Now today). Out of bed at 0300 and leaing Maryborough by 0545. I wanted to to stop via a cache hide in Tuan Forest to check on it then make my way to Gympie and my first one in Gympie is Fossicker.
This one has been on my caching plan for a long time now. I cache on my own and seeing the 4WD reference and being forestry Roads and there being a Humpy close by I lacked the intestinal fortitude, until now, to have a go at this one on my own. I had a look at Google Earth and that was not really helpful then I found another Map Source and laid down my plan. This was how I was going to get to this one. Oops. GPSr had another Plan .
From Fossicker it wanted me to go via Brisbane Road to Noosa Road then to Woondum Road then to Cobb and co Road. I knew that Cobb and Co road did not cross the railway line so I continued on along Woondum Road then under the Railway Line then the GPSr arrow was pointing directly to my right. Took this road and after a very careful drive in 2WD even though I now own a 4WD. I arrived very close to GZ. The way I came in is a very good forestry trtack and good for high clearance 2WD vehicles. If using other low slung 2WD's be careful of the rise in the road. Parked on the side of the road and climbed the bank and saw the Humpy. I also noticed the little track in that would have been an easier walk. No one home, thankfully. Looks like it has had no habitation for awhile now. Soon had the cleverly concealed Ammo Box in hand. Replaced as found in the depression as mentioned in the additional hints.
Drove back out the same way and continued along Woondum Road till I had to stop at a red traffic signal for ten minutes whilst the earth moving machinery went back and forth. They are working on the New Bruce Highway deviation route.. It took awhile to turn right back onto the highway thanks to all the traffic. Now to head home to Nanango and was home by 1145. good day out for 5 finds.

Out and about today with Fangsoki, catscatscats22 and Captain Terror and with this one was first up on the list for us today as we made our way around out of town After a bit of a false start we soon had access sorted to the cache and after a quick search we soon had the cache in hand and added our names to the logbook [^] Someone has certainly made themselves very comfy out here

Headed out with Gaz'n'Kab, Fangsoki and Captain Terror for a Sunday drive up North to Gympie and the surrounding area. After a bit of a false start, we finally made it up, parking nearby. It was an easy find, despite being in the vicinity of what looked to be a temporary stake out. Thanks powellbruce!
Catching up on some logs over the past week.
This one has been on radar for a while, just never had the right car to get up there. However, i acquired said vehicle and found the GZ alright. The structure nearby had me worried, so I signed the log and scurried away before anyone came home.

I had hmmm.. found another cache "in the area" in recent months. I was somewhat stroppy I didn't notice this beast in the same area. I had been quite negligent going for this one over the years.. mostly due to a lack of maps.
Sweet_bee and I entered the area from the North. Now - I really hope the way from the South is considerably easier terrain-wise. From the north - there's no way on God's Green Earth you could do it in a 2WD. Thankfully I had the 4WD "Canyonero". A few hair raising moments.. but the Canyonero took it in its stride. Up and down some ripper hills.. over some logs.... had to pick one's line carefully at times.. but we finally arrived near GZ.
We parked up and walked the 70m to the GZ. Sweet_bee and I stepped dead in our tracks. OK... why is there some kind of lean-to / bivouac affair happening right where my GPSr is pointing? I scrolled through the recent logs... no mention of it there.
Bugger this I peered as close as I could in the structure - no sign of anyone. I called out. No reply. I quickly looked where my GPSr was pointing. Nada. I am not a fan of being here.. in case the "owner" of said bivouac returned. I decided to PAF Captain Terror.
Of course it was a case of "Finding the cache just as the PAFee answers the phone" (Thanks anyway, Captain Terror). We quickly signed the log and re-hid it as found. Time to scoot.
We decided to go back the way we came in - "better the devil you know" as they say. Thank the good Lord for low range.. as we crawled down those slippery hills.
This was a fun cache to do. I hope the terrain is a lot better coming from the south.. because judging it from the north - I'd be giving it a solid Terrain 4 (you could walk it if you were that keen). I was a bit worried about the structure at GZ - but the cache is still there... and it's in good condition.

I entered from the south and it was a short drive into the bush and up the hill, i took one wrong turn but soon realised i was heading away from GZ, after a 30 min search the log was signed, we swapped a toy lizard for a couple of Aussie animal cards. Its kind of a shame there are so many trees blocking the view but its still a great location for a hide. TFTC
1479. Reading the D/T I thought this one a good spot for Lunch, a short drive through the forest to a tower site. well The Garmin Road GPS took us through a squeezy bridge to a dead end, "backtrack" then which track up - This looks good - Up and up and more up, 450meters to cache round and around and still 450 meters to cache finally we arrived 30 meters to cache gosh - well it did say history ! Hint read - The search began 20 minutes later Mrs.K. said I think I see something - You go look there - after removing debris and camouflage She was right Bingo Signed the log and replaced , 20 minutes to find the cache and 20 minutes to remove the Cobblers pegs from the socks, then it was lunch up on this quiet mound, the way back down well i wish we had turned on tracklog on one of the GPS's as we had to backtrack twice to get the right track back, still a good cache experience was had !! 4wd clearance essential

Put off by the no entry sign but we pushed on, only to arrive at private property and lose our nerve.
I travelled up to GZ along the dirt roads with little bumps for water drainage.
I usually don't go into forest areas on my own but I wanted to do this cache.
I arrived at GZ and I had heard that this was a difficult cache to find.
I wandered down the track towards GZ through all the cobbler's pegs and ended at an area where I thought the cache could be and started tapping with my tool and bingo I heard the sound I like.
I lifted up the coverage and whoops thats not it. Tapped again and bingo a cache.
TNLNSL TFTC Thanks powellbruce All good with this cache and lovely views too.

I can't believe how little this cache gets found. It was May 2010 when I tried to get to this one in the wet with my Corolla and failed. Ever since this icon has laughed at me from my geocaching map. After a 4WD event with Nyssaflutterby and membsec and no real plans I suggested we have a crack at this cache.
I vaguely know the roads in this area and we started at this one from the north, thinking we could loop back out to the south.. which turned out to be true. The track turned quickly to dirt and was in pretty good condition as we wound our way up and up and up.. Nyssa and her 4WD haven't done much offroad stuff, but she was doing pretty good. But the next bits would test her. We came to a bit of a downslope to a tiny creek and back up a steep section. She wasn't keen but a bit of advice that she'd be easily able to do it, the Landcruiser worked it's way gently down then back up the dirt. Too easy. Along a bit more windy road until another big gully was found. This one we decided to scout on foot first. Mr. Membsec looked at the downslope, I checked out the bottom and Mrs. Membsec went up the other side. All things looked easily doable, so we talked Nyssa through it and sure enough, high RPM, low gear and she was soon back up the top at the other side albeit with a heartrate that I'm sure was through the roof.
We pushed on along flat road a bit further until we came very close to GZ. I noted it had been found kind of recently, but before that, a huge break. I was a bit surprised. So we got stuck into the hunt. The area looks to me like it used to be foundations for a house of sorts, but I read the description and see it was a fire tower, I wished it was still here so we could check out the view. We spent a long time looking, getting up close and personal with the flora and checking every possible hidey hole. Eventually Mrs. Membsec found the beast and it had been hidden well by Mother Nature. Out it came, as expected, all in good condition inside and the logbook ceremoniously signed. Replaced as found and back to the car.
I guessed the track out to the south would be better, Nyssa hoped I was right and sure enough, we drove out without any issues and popped out exactly where I had driven in all those years ago. The drive in/out from the south would be doable in the dry in a 2WD. I'd easily get my Corolla in there.
Very glad to finally come back and grab this cache, a good adventure in some fun company. A wonderful location and many thanks fro bringing us here. A favourite point from me. TFTC powellbruce

On the road home from the Forest Challenge with NysaFlutterby and Captain Terror. Brilliant driving on a difficult 4WD track and we made it to the top. Got to the area in one piece but could not find a trace. Eventually Lady Membsec discovered a very well hidden cache. Note to self - do not visit a cache immediately after Brother Colin who seems to have a brilliant way of re-hiding to make life doubly difficult for the next finders!!!!!!! Drive out was easier than the drive in.

Captain Terror, membsec and myself had just spent the weekend not to far away out at Imbil enjoying the Forest Challenge and all the splendours that area has to offer. We had had a marvellous time. Then it was time to head home but not before we found a few more caches. We had no set plans so the Captain came up with the idea for finding this cache, he had driven close to it before but his mighty Rolla just didn't have it in her to make it all the way.
So that was that, plan set we left Gympie and started to drive south. It wasn't long until we turned left and then right and hit the forest park. At first the track was simple enough but then it got a wee bit hetic, and then a whole lot crazier! ARGH! Cursing the Captain It was just insane. Why do I let him talk me into this? The track had now become a whole lot of 'down a crazy dirt road to up the crazy dirt road'. I'm pretty sure the Grand Canyon could have been smaller then the ravines that I was crossing. At one point it looked like the track just dropped off into nowhere, that's when everybody bailed on me! Their excuse was they were just checking the road for me. Yeah right, more like the didn't want to roll down the hill of doom with me. But after a bit of a look see they ensured me the track was fine and to just continue slowly and cautiously. So I did, and then I had made it! Well that was a bit of an andrenaline rush. All parties then piled back into the monster truck.
And then we came to another ravine, except this one was way deeper and steeper! ARGH! Again! But the previous experience had my nerves steeled a bit. Well, there was only one way to go and it was forward, so we did. And again, what a rush! I never knew the full power of my vehicle but today I found out. I also found out how to need a change of underwear!
So crazy driving out of the way, we kept heading for the cache, the track was easing into a less steep climb and we were getting closer. We arrived near GZ and legged it in. A rather lengthy search then started. We looked and looked, I was pretty certain I was looking in the right area but then Sir membsec distracted me. A while longer and Lady membsec finally hit that familiar sound of a cache in the bush! YAY, she had found the cache!!!! After the crazy effort to make it to the cache I would have been a little disappointed if we had to DNF. The log was signed and the cache replaced as found.
NOW! To get home?

A day out caching with with my Dad, Sweet - Sour.
Dad had had a lot of trouble in the past looking for this so it was decidied a team effort was needed. After a lot of poking and prodding with our 'poking poles' we were still without a cache. A bit more of a discussion and away we went again. Eventually I found the bugger well hidden thanks to nature. One happy father.
Thanks for the cache.

Third time lucky.
Out caching with my son Brother Colin today, thankfully he had brought along his walking sticks, which we used as for poking probes.
Every thing at the old lookout site was poked and probed, nothing was left unpoked.
As I had been here twice before, with no luck in the past, and son was more nimble than I, he had the pleasure of the shout "Found It"
[^] It is no wonder that I didn't find it before, this would have to be one of the best hides that I have ever found. There is only the very remotest chances that this would ever be muggled.
With the paper work done, the cache was replaced as found, to ensure that the next finder has as much frustration and pleasure finding this as we did.
Persistance should be added as a clue.
All is good with the cache

Thought I would try this one again, spent an hour, looked in, under, and on everything around the old tower site, nothing, GPS was going in small circles, so gave it a miss and searched everything.
Found the PSM (trig point) at the centre of the old tower.

The 5th DF for today.
It would appear that in recent times that Forrestry Workers have been on site, they cleared all the regroth of small trees around the PSM that is fixed under the old fire watch tower, searched high and low, in every depression, no luck.
I think this one is MIA.
Even mananged to find this site, after all the wet weather we have had, in Pam's mobile shopping trolly.

just went to see if it was still ok and it is.i drove in from the southern side.but you MUST take care.
Tried the "reasonable dirt road" in our 4x4. No luck getting near GZ. The road is now very poor indeed....no doubt because of all the rain this year.
On a trip north, didn't really have time to take a detur, but I tried anyways. Only in a corolla and the track was a bit too much, and was too far to walk in the time I had. shame, will be back another day with some more time up my sleeve.
Just passing, thought I'd drop in for old times sake
A great little detour over the hill to get away from the madness on the highway
The cache is still safe and sound.

This was a bit of an adventure becasue we didn't have any maps and the gps didn't either! We found a good starting spot and then had to explore quite a few different tracks before we located the one that went far enough in the right direction to get to GZ!
After that, it was a bit of a search around and voila! Great views from the hills around here, TFTC

Interesting history. A whole new area for me. The maps and the roads seem to differ a fair bit. Thanks.

An interesting trip in, round and round and up and down. All done easily in the new Nissan Bundymobile. Grabbed on our way down to Bribie for a few days off.

A great drive in. The Subie loved it, and I would have enjoyed it more if the petrol gauge hadn't been tickling empty. Oh well, the GPSr said just 6.38 km to the next cache, by a petrol station ... Someone lived a creative life here - some of those broken bottles are set into the ground in patterns. Also the most eclectic range of swaps I've seen in a cache! TNLN. Thanks for the cache powellbruce.
great 4wd fun.............hit this with the storkers...........no problemo.......................tfth
Approaching from the south was a much easier drive than the way out to the north.
Found it .. this one has been a pain in my side for awhile have not had the time to get it ... took cable clips and left Chinese Coins
I was nearby having just found 'The Other Side' cache. There was a road marked that ran along the railway toward this cache
Not exactly the reasonable dirt road as mentioned in the notes, so I guess I took the alternative route to get here
The final couple of kms up the hill and along the ridge was very scenic though and the cache hunt began in a very relaxed mood
It took a while to find the cache in it's hiding spot, but the poking stick eventually produced that magic 'thud' as it hit the box
TFTC and 4WD trek [:o]

Finding the right road in was part of the fun. I found one that did the job and came out on the road that I eventually took back out. Loved the 4WDing, especially following where trail bikes had been. (Boy that road narrowed, steep too)
Found the cache pretty quickly at 0915hrs. It would have been good to have seen the fire tower. Nice and quiet up there today.

I haven't been here for 20 years or so, when the tower was still there.
Sad to see that it is gone.
Took a while to find this one.... Must have been the tree cover.

I went to this one on the 6th, folowing directions from a vehicle mounted GPS, only to discover that I'd forgotten my hand held GPS. Bugger! Today though was different but the GPS signal bounced me all over the site. Refining my search and honing in on GZ, gerrynergirl suddenly came up with the goods. Phew..... Thankgoodness for a partner.
... nice little detour, missed a turn, but scored another cache anyway
found the cache in good order and relatively full, grabbed bug, but was a little light on decent swaps. So other than the TB, TNLN
cheers Bruce and TFTC

Took us a little while to find the track in to this one, but in the end the bugger ute got us there. Intersting rock work here, I think the fire spotter was bored at times.

[This casche took a while to work out, we had been tailing "scrub bull" all day. I just wish we knew all we had to do was] take one left turn off the main road before the train service road.
A full on weekend raid on our own through Gympie, Maryborough, Burrum Heads, back down through Kin Kin and Noosaville collecting 62 caches along the way.
Nice easy find once we worked out which track was the right one, there are lots around here we did quite a few U turns.

What a great little track this was! Again, our trusty Corolla got us within metres of the cache.
We took a Simpsons figure and left a penguin. Thanks for the cache!

9:45am Easter Sunday
The real aim of the morning - and what a glorious aim it was. This cache has a lot of resonance for me, as my old man has been with Forestry for nigh on 35 years and has shown us a lot of the history of the organisation around the state as we've moved with his job. With the recent demise of forestry as a state owned entity, it was an opportune time to sit in an idyllic spot and reflect on the past and the blokes who put so much into building the towers, and indeed the organisation, around the state.
Left U4DB TB, as I reckoned this was an ideal spot for uniting for any cause.
TFTC - made the DNF's of the morning pale away. And the 4WD Camry lapped up the chance for a forest frolic (so what if my car has an identity crisis and reckons it's a 4WD ute...)
Cheers

Arrived at GZ after following a bush track no 4WD needed which is good because we don't own one. Took about 10 mins to find. Thanks for the adventure and the history. TNLN

Number 970, After getting rid of our hitch hikers we headed back into the wooded forests of Gympie. We had several attempts to get to this cache and all resulted with the same scraping of the underneath of my car. At one stage the wheels were smoking and we were stuck hard. Anyway after about 500m along the last track we took we knew we were on a winner. Danielle from Everlasting found the cache. Hey Bruce what are the rock type beds at GZ? Thanks for the cache Bruce. Cheers The Nanks
Ambled in through as few forest tracks. No 4WD needed the way we went, though we took along the option just in case.
Great spot with history.
Took sock-holder, left Sideshow Bob.
Thanks Bruce
