Thanks for the excuse to come up and look at some rocks Done on a camping trip in honeysuckle

A group of eager cachers decided to brave the chilly morning and venture up Booroomba Rocks. All caches we found were signed as Ice Breakers due to the thin layers of ice covering all the puddles and how entertaining they are to drop and smash on the nearby rocks. The weather warmed up throughout the day and made for a beautiful day in the sun.I've come to enjoy these group ventures as you always get to know people better and create great friendships. At this point we were exhausted and on our way home. It was a smaller group of us now, not the whole Ice Breakers crew. I didn't know this was here but I did enjoy learning the history of it. Answers have been sent to the CO. Thank you Tealby for the EC!

While out and about nearby the now small subsection of ICEBREAKERS chose to go and find a few caches before heading home. After doing the nearby trad and virtual, I was able to quickly grab the answers for this earthcache which has now been sent off to the CO. Thanks Tealby for this earthcache!

I'm out and about in Namadgi today with my family to explore Legoland, and we decided to check out the old Honeysuckle Creek tracking station while we were at it too!Pretty cool to tick off another of the older ECs in the ACT (and Australia generally!) in such a neat location.Lots of information to take in around here, and some pretty rocks too!The answers were collated with some careful reading and sent off to the CO.Thanks to Tealby for setting up this Earthcache! I'm on my way to do the GeoBash Tidbinbilla Tracking Station tour and thought it be good to come and see where it all happened 55 years ago when I and 600 million others watched what was being broadcast from here (and the Dish at Parkes) of the events unfolding on the moon.I'm so glad I did! It brought back so many memories of the day. I'm still left wondering, though ... what made Honeysuckle and Parkes the right sites in Australia to track the Apollo missions? Thanks for creating this earthcache Tealby ... gets a fave point from me.

Day number four in Canberra and surrounds for the OzMega Geobash across the Easter weekend. Was back in towards the capital this morning to complete my tour of around Parliament House and grab a few more caches in the area. The plan for today with the WA5 (I C Nothing, meme28, geotrakka, Burns345 & myself) was to target caches with high favourite points and at higher altitudes. As expected today filled with a fantastic variety of cache types and containers that highlighted the ACT caching communitys creativity and sense of adventure. And with a bigger group each were located quickly. The evening was a little slower than the last few days with the WA5 joining another group of West Aussies for the quiz night at the event site. Thanks Tealby for placing Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station for me and others to find.I added my name to the log at 12:01 on 30/3/2024.This is find number 8571 for me.

Four years ago, a Bromance team adventure to hike Australia's highest 10 peaks was cancelled after bushfires devastated the Snowy Mountains (and indeed most of the Eastern seaboard). We finally returned to Kosciuszko National Park a few days and have just spent three wonderful days in perfect weather hiking a circuit around the mountains climbing Australia's 13 highest peaks and collecting all the alpine caches along our route. My hike ended up being hike some 61 km with about 2800 m of ascent over 2 1/2 days and two spectacular nights camping - at Mueller's Pass and Aries Tor.We are now heading for Canberra for the night, stopping at interesting caches along the way, before venturing north on a caching road trip back home to Brisbane. Seffnjarah had attempted to get to this cache a few time without success, thwarted by road closures and fires and such. So he was very keen to make amends for that today. It was hot, but we took the time to wander amongst the displays, checking out a fascinating piece of Australia's history. Answers sent and accepted by the CO. Many thanks TealbyPete#7,662

After completing a 3 day hike around 13 peaks in Kosciuszko National Park, Crookedpete, JezNDez and I headed back to Canberra for a well deserved hot shower and a proper cooked dinner. The enjoyment of some creature comforts would have to be delayed though until we called in to visit a few geocaches along the way, including this one.I haven't had much luck visiting this location, having been thwarted on two previous occasions due to the access road being closed due to burn offs or roadworks. I crossed my fingers and toes as we turned off onto Apollo Road, and was much relived to find the Road Open sign displayed. Third time lucky!Following the winding road we drove all the way to GZ. Boy, it was quite a bit hotter out here than up in the mountains of Kosciusko NP, with the heat of the sun reflecting up off the asphalt and concrete. Walked over to GZ and made the required observations. Glad to sign off on this one at long last. TFTC

Took advantage of the sunny weather to visit Namadji and Honeysuckle Creek tracking station remains and the read the information boards. Thanks to these tracking stations in 1969 we watched the moon landing at school on the TV - so exciting for children back then. It is interesting to see the size of the computers in the information board photos - so different to now. Thanks for placing this cache Tealby.

What a walk through space history on my birthday bash hike day off! Loved the wandering, quiet displays with such massive historic implications for humanity - a moonshot mission! Shows we can take on grand challenges collectively and gives me hope. I learnt what the station used to look like which was pretty cool to appreciate, especially the massive computing rooms that now walk around on all of our pockets!

A weekend with the family in Namadgi. Today we had planned to go for a nice walk up on the Legoland ridge line not realizing that that road was closed. Change of plans to find some caches at the tracking station.

We gathered the information from the signs and GPS and checked out a boulder before we went on a hike.

Thank you Tealby for putting the earth cache out.

Today cosmonaut97 joined albida33, fitzy_1965 and I for a jaunt around Namadgi.

We thought we would try our luck and see if some roads were now open after the recent rains. After a fairly successful day we returned to Canberra in time for the Annual Christmas Secret Santa event. fitzy and I then drove home and collapsed on the lounge after another full weekend.

I've never been up here before and will definitely come back for a better look around. Collected all the required info (probably nerdy to say I knew the Granite composition without going to look at any boulders as I have a liking of geology). Answers sent to CO and all verified so now logging.

Thanks for bringing us here Tealby.

What an amazing way to start my holidays from work. Geo-events, traveling, meeting up with friends and finding many different caches made it fun! Big Grin It’s so nice to finally be able to do all these things… again. The following descriptions are my adventures between the days of 12/11/21 and 16/11/21. Each cache has been logged to the end of my adventures for the day of finding them. If you would like to read my full log, please find it on any cache I found on the 16/11/21.
Day #1: I finished work at 4pm and headed over to Wagga for the only GIFF event in NSW. Apart from the CO, I was the first to arrive at the event. It was great to finally attend a Geocaching after many months without them. All talk Geo was had by all until we were told that dinner was ready. Soon after, the popcorn was ready and the movies were on. Congratulations to all the GIFF finalists and they were all a great watch. Also, Congratulations to BMG for receiving the FTF on the event. Then it was time to head home and get ready to head to Canberra for the next few days. Big Grin
Day #2: I was nearly late to my own event. O’well… It was still fun with the small group of us that turned up. We also discovered many Moveable caches before heading off to today’s main goal. This happened to be finding the ‘A’ part of the GA geo-art series as well as the lone GC caches around the area which I hadn’t found as I pasted by them. I wasn’t alone as AKM came for the walk as well. After finding all but the last two we headed our separate ways as it started raining heavier. Hopefully, it won’t be raining tomorrow so the event goes ahead but well will need to see. Also pizza for dinner tonight. Big Grin
Day #3: Today’s adventures included the CCE down in Booroomba and as many of the nearby caches as possible. I didn’t do the walk to the ‘Booroomba Rocks’ but I am still able to log the event. I then headed off with a large group of others to find the nearby caches. After that, I caught a lift with Kittykatch, Joolay, isopeda and Barb2e and we headed down to the ACT boarder finding the caches along the way many caches were found and a new GCA cache placed (Gudgenby – GA25097). It was great to see some ammo cans out in the wild, even if they were slightly damaged by the fires. As we arrived back in Tharwa we had afternoon tea and headed our separate ways. Another great day and so much more to go.
TB visit on all found caches. I would like to thank all CO's of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and the rest of the caching community enjoyment. Big Grin

Today we had the pleasure of attending a community celebration event and catching up with friends we havent seen for so long. We arrived early so we could do the Apollo walk and explore this interesting area that is part of the events burnt into our memory banks. Thank you for this wonderful earthcache. Answers sent. My first visit to Honeysuckle since the fires. Great to see the campground site survived but still very confronting to see all the damage in the bush. There is regrowth everywhere which brings its own challenges with off-track walking up here.

I had no problems finding the required information and sent it to the CO who very promptly gave me the green light.

Thanks, Tealby - another very interesting Earthcache!

TFTC Smile First time out in these parts for a long time. Great to be back out here and enjoying this beautiful part of Namadgi once again. So peaceful on a crisp autumn day, the birds are singing, and muggles about.

My photo is of the new sculpture depicting the significance of the site and astronomy to the aboriginal population. I particularly liked their take on the Southern Cross constellation.

Attending the Queanbeyan Clear Waters mega event, this was my final day. I teamed up with e.gregory1 today, as we headed south from the city, and geocache in and around Namadgi National Park. Another nice day with great weather, apart from the thunderstorm that rolled through towards the end of a day. It wasn't a day of high finds, but some great targeted caches, awesome scenery, and interesting history at Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station, which was linked to assisting with communicating the moon landing.

Such a cool location rich with history that e.gregory1 had stumbled across with our travels around today. Answers were collected and sent to the CO. Thanks Tealby on a cool EarthCache highlighting this location!

Today was the final day of the Clear Water Mega event in Queanbeyan. I teamed up with a fellow South Australian geocacher and spent much of the day south of the city in and around the Namadgi National Park.

We had another day of great weather until late in the afternoon when a thunderstorm passed over. Fortunately we were pretty much finished and headed back by then.

This was an interesting place to visit. I had some vague memory about this place being mentioned sometime, but it was buried in the deep recesses of my mind somewhere. The visit and the information on-site refreshed those memories! I still recall watching the first remarkable moon landing on the TV all those years ago.

Thanks Tealby for the earthcache.

Finally a Sunday that allows pleasant weather for being out and about, enjoying the bush. I haven't been here before, so it was quite the educational experience. Me and muggle hubby, Paris the blue bear, plus 3 TBs enjoyed the walk and the history and the geology. Crystal clear blue skies made for an even more dazzling experience.

Amazed that 600 million people around the world watched the moon landing event.

Was tempted to hold onto this one for our next international earth cache day.. but got so caught up in the info on the rock, the space mission and the group rock hunt - I couldn’t help myself!

Who would have thought that just a week ago I had never been out here in Namadgi and now I have been here 3 times! I am certainly starting to like this place. Today the journey was in aid of an awesome little CITO in the area. Then off on a whirlwind tour with Smittengranny, Kittykatch, Joolay, CRBchic and seabass14 to get the Stuff of Nightmares trail (and a range if other caches that seem to cross our path)! The perfect kind of day. Thanks for the cache!

Overnight camping trip with the twin terrors. Their first away from the backyard. Weather a bit miserable, but lots of fun lighting a fire, toasting marshmallows and exploring this wonderful site. Drizzled on and off, so not much '5-year-old enthusiasm' for more caches (unfortunately). Was soundly beaten more than once at Connect 4........ TFTC Tealby.

I was camping at the nearby camp ground with my daughter and her boyfriend and wandered up here. I had left my GPS back in Canberra so without phone reception finding GHZ was difficult. This is a very interesting site and I learned lots from reading all the signs. Thanks for setting up this cache which I very much enjoyed. The camp grounds were amazing I thought, and we were visited by many kangaroos, wallabies and, during the night, several possums came out. Answers have been emailed and I've logged the find in anticipation of my answers being correct (or nearly correct).

Out with Aqulius1 and AddictedGamer. It was an amazing place here and I can't believe I haven't been here before now. The answers were straightforward to find with only one that took a little extra to work out. There is so much great information here with some quirky facts. You even get to see who was with Buzz and Armstrong! TFTC Tealby!!!

14-Oct-17
Was out in the area with dty73 and AddictedGamer for a day of caching in the area. Have never been out to this area before and was interesting to learn about the space program here and how they were responsible for the broadcasting of the moon landing. We walked around and explored the area, its a bit hard to think that there was much here with all the trees and bush now. I was surprised to learn that I was standing on the foundations of the basement of the building, but I guess that explains the drop and stairs and the excavation to fit the building. Answers have been sent to the CO on behalf of our group, thanks for the cache Tealby.

Together with Team "GER-17" (consisting of murri24, der Eifelaner & dieFraudiemitmuss and me) I was able to find this Cache while travelling with our rental car from Cooma to Canberra and later that day further on to Batemans Bay.

The answers for this Cache were already sent by der Eifelaner.

This was already my second visit to the ACT. Never would have thought back then, that I'd come back so soon or at all ... Smile

Thanks a lot for this Cache!

Back in Melbourne we started by car to go to Sydney along the coast with zig zags in to the blue mountains and Canberra.
Finally we arrived in Sydney and spend here the last day of our holidays with caching and sightseeing.
During our trip wi although visited some Earth Caches. We saw wery nice locations and other nice things that are related to EC```s

DieFraudiemitmuss, Lundi263, Murri24 and I made this year a very great tour together. Our first target is Melbourne. So we started early in the morning to visit the city and to make a few geocaches. We found very nice locations and interesting spots. One day we rent a car. Very early in the morning we drive from Melbourne City over Geelong to the Great Ocean Road. Along this road we found so much interesting spots, we see a great landscape, and had have not enough time for sightseeing. The weather was fine but a little bit windy. This day was very long and hard, but wonderful.
After that we visit the Grampians. A little bit rain, a little bit windy and a little bit sunny day, we had fasten all weathers. We visit waterfalls, canyons, sandstone fomations and any Look Outs. Puhhh, what a great landscape.
The next part of our journey is to explore the Outback. From Ayers Rock we take a car and drive over Kings Canyon and many other Look Outs to Alice Springs. We visit any very interesting Caches and had a great time by comfortable temperature.
Now we drive from Melbourne in direction of Canberra, Blue Mountains and Sydney. We want to see so much as possible of this part of Australia. Today we started in Cooma. We visit Canberra, have seen some official spots an make a few Caches. Once more we find a great location.
This Cache was one of my favorite Caches, wich I would visit in Australia. Thank you very much for showing. This theme was very interesting. I have learned a lot over the australian geology.

Today was a day of exploring and after spending over an hour wandering around the old Orroral Tracking Station site, it seemed fitting that i should go explore Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station on the way back to town. I really wasn't prepared overly well today however and found that not having long pants or closed in shoes was a little crazy. I was f-f-f-f... cold, so possibly didn't enjoy it as much as i had hoped - but now that i know how to get here, i will be back to explore more. Alas without a functioning GPS and unable to use the new app, there are limited caching opportunities for me currently - so hoping i got the answers right enough for the earth cache to log my find.

Thanks for sharing this location and for having an earth cache here. Smile

A great find with geokids on a weekend camping trip in namadgi. Stopped here for lunch. The boys were a bit confused about a cache with a hide - they love their "treasure chests" - but the space history floated their boat so that kind-of disappointment was quickly forgotten. What a fantastic slice of history. Confirmed answer with the CO. Tftc!

28-Apr-17
Came out to have a look around the area, especially the tracking station. Love the history in these old sites, a pity so much has been removed. I think it would enhance the experience if the authorities could signpost some of the areas like they do at Orroral. Anyway, gathered the required info and fired off my answers to the CO which were approved. Interested to learn that there were supposed to be 30 apollo missions!

Thanks for the cache and bringing me to such a significant place.

Answered submitted to CO.

After an adventure on Orroral Ridge, heading to Legoland with heaps of kids (enough to fill five cars), I stopped by this site to have a look around and complete this earth cache.

I wandered around, visiting all the levels and gathering the necessary information. Memories of the movie "The Dish" came to mind, although that was a different dish.

It was a very pleasant autumn day, and the nearby camping grounds were well used.

Thanks for the earth cache. Tealby!

Apologies for the late log. I was up here with the Scouts after our originally planned campsite near Yass was still underwater and I managed to get a short notice booking here at Honeysuckle.

Now I used to come up this was a lot many years ago, so many in fact that the last time I was here so were the buildings Red Face We explored the site and I gathered the required information (e-mail to CO to follow) and then returned to camp for some ropework. TFTC Tealby.

This was my first visit to the Honeysuckle site and I'm sure I'll be back with the faimily soon. Staying at the nearby campground I was up early for a morning walk and to check out the surrounding area. Reading the history of the tracking station was very interesting and one that I'm sure I've heard when we were at the Carnarvon tracking station.
There was plenty of wildlife around and its great to see this facility given back to the community to use.

Plans were set in place with StrangeTrousers and mtrax to make the nab on some of the more challenging and higher terrain caches around Booroomba Rocks. A lovely sunny but cool day made it the perfect day for geocaching out here! Smile

We’d overshot the turnoff so we decided to make the most of it and nab a couple of caches whilst we were here.

First stop was this interesting Earthcache. I had no idea of the significance of the area until I was here for this one! Just goes to show you that geocaching can be fun AND educational! Answers submitted to CO.

Thanks for this interesting Earthcache, Tealby Smile

#2029 Found with specimenX and mtrax on our Booroomba Rocks geo-expedition. We grabbed this one early in the day after missing the turnoff to Booroomba rocks. It was a lovely cool, clear day with plenty of campers about. We saw some wallabies in this spot later in the day. I got a picture of them that I will post shortly.
TFTEC Tealby. I've always liked it up here.

Found on a warm but overcast day whilst out caching with OutRangerous. I haven't been up this way for years so was good to revisit and remind ourselves of Australia's involvement in the space race. TFTC

Out for a day's caching with Chakram. I was interested to learn that there is nothing left there but some concrete foundations - what happened to all the buildings and equipment?

Today's ACT middle distance orienteering champs was based right at the posted co-ordinates - a perfect opportunity to do this earthcache. It was great to read all the information - I remember the first moon landing well from my childhood. Information submitted. TFTC.

Torrevieja and I were up here and this time (I've been up here numerous times before, even camping!) we thought we'd collect this earthcache. We collected the details for this one after finding the cache I planted near(ish)by for Torrevieja's birthday; after the hike in and out and messing around looking for it and opening it (bwahaha) we settled down on a picnic rug just about GZ and had a lovely midnight picnic complete with wine... lay down to watch the stars, fell asleep, woke a little cool at 2am, collected the details for the cache and headed home. What a lovely evening and an absolutely top spot. TFTC (CO messaged).

Great place to visit, although it would've been better if we'd done it a bit sooner so we could have made use of the excellent campground nearby. It's always fascinating (and a little sad) to visit these sites - a great example of a major project done well, something that is sadly lacking these days. Answers sent. TFTEC Tealby.

We decided to explore this area about 3 weeks ago, and then went in for a return visit with some of the family yesterday. What an historic area. So many stories to be told here no doubt! We stood in the areas where the first pictures of the moon were beamed back to earth, and marvelled that technology back then enabled the photos to arrive on earth after just a one second delay.

It is a pity the buildings have all gone. None-the-less, it was fun to walk in the footsteps of those who helped create history.

Thanks Tealby for highlighting this area. It was pretty amazing,

Domsky

Decided to make a little journey south and collect this earth cache today with Bobl27 and HypoHippo. IT had been many years since I had visited this site and really enjoyed seeing how the site has developed into a proper camping area (with all mod cons) and seeing the great little display dedicated to the tracking station. Also - great rocks in this area - surprised a certain well known cacher has not peppered the area with bolder caches! Answers derived and sent via message to the CO. Thanks Tealby for the excuse to head south and see this great little site!

Found with AngelG27 and Hypohippo. This was my first visit to Honeysuckle creek and I appreciated the impetus to make the drive. Great historical location and nicely marked by the information panels. Just as well I had my compass app on me so we would work out one of the questions - Angel forgot her GPS! Thanks Tealby Smile

A team of three small Geokids found the answers to the three questions while generally enjoying the chance to talk about rockets and astronauts. They were pretty impressed to learn that the footage of Neil Armstrong's 'small step' was relayed from here. A great spot for a sunny winter afternoon. Thanks for the cache, Tealby.

Attended this wonderful location today while on a solo geocaching trip around the area. Found out all about The Moon Landings and the Apollo Missions. An interesting fact that I discovered on my visit was that the Apollo 11 Mission duration was 8 days 3 hours 18 minutes long.

Explored this one on a drive out to Honeysuckle on the Queens Birthday holiday. This area has been on my to do list ever since I moved to Canberra, so about time I ticked it off.

Answers have been emailed to the CO.

This is a fantastic drive out to the area and the EC is very accessible. I will recommend this to others. It was part of a trip out to this area and a hike up to the Boorooma rocks which was enjoyed by all. Thanks for the EC TB.

My first earthcache. I don't normally bother with them (lazy), which is why I have never logged this on any previous visits. This trip is specifically to hunt caches, so I am extra motivated.

Thanks for setting up this cache. Answers to follow.

Sehr komfortabel. Wir konnten vom Camper gleich zum Earthcache schlendern. Die Fragen waren gut zu beantworten. Hatten eine schöne Zeit auf dem Honeysuckle campground.

We were on the very nice campground nearby and surprised to learn about the connection between the Apollo mission and this australien region. Thanks for showing us this place. #3819

Answers sent to the CO. Seeing as we had finished the main cache we were targeting a lot earlier than expected we decided to grab a few others down south. As we like an earth cache we detoured in and interesting to see the information about the old facility. Plenty of rabbits around. TFTEC
