Dropped down the other side of Mt Coolum for this after doing the Earthcache. Cool tree. TFTC.
A great day out with my daughter and two grandsons for Fathers Day. After doing The Last Warrior and Mount Coolum, we did this one on the way back up the track. FJ was quickly found after a short search by my grandson, didn't hang about long because we were getting bitten my giant mozzies. Deserves a favourite point for a great adventure. TFTC d.d.dudes
Quick easy find at gz. Met a couple poke moning nearby. They knew about geocaching. Heaps of mosquitoes
The caches at the back of Mt Coolum have been sitting on my map waiting to be turned into a smiley for ages.
I decided that I would attempt to find this cache today and use it for the spell May in May challenge.
I had not been on the western side of the mountain before so I looked forward to the hike to the caches and I was not disappointed.
When I arrived at GZ, it was not too long before the cache was found. All is good with this cache except the outer black plastic bag is starting to deteriorate.
The log was signed and returned to the cache and the cache replaced exactly as found.
Took TB.
Find #482.

I'm currently up on the Sunshine Coast for work and this mountain has been staring at me from a distance whenever I am in my hotel. This morning I decided an early start would see this mountain conquered. I arrived at the bottom at 4.45am to find the car park already full and plent of other walkers still arriving. Does nobody sleep around here! I'm glad I started early as it was already getting warm with plent off sweat starting to flow. At the summit I joined the crowds already up here to watch the sunrise before continuing the climb over the back to head down to this cache. Certainly a lot more peaceful over here as none of the muggles had headed this way. Followed the clear track all the way to GZ where the cache was quickly found. Dropped of a TB. TFTC
after climbing Mt Coolum the grabbing the last warrior cache we headed back down the hill, only to realise we had to climb back up to get to this cache!!
Up we went again enjoyed the views from the top before heading down to the cache.
after a long day we decided to take the easy way out.

Found FJ twice.Once on the way up Mt Coolum from the West side and once on the way down after losing original track down.
Great day for a mountain climb! 3 of us spiderwebbs and one friend ventured up enjoying the awesome views during frequent rest stops on the way. We took the main track up to the summit checking out the geology for the earthcache on the way.
Once at the summit, A and I left E and friend and trekked off down the western side. Only 300m or so to the waypoint - that's not too far! We followed the very narrow rubbly trail down down down, thinking hang on we're going to have to get back up this again - it's like climbing the mountain twice! A couple of times, I thought of turning back as we had taken all the water and phones, leaving the other 2 at the summit - probably not the safest thing to do, if something happened to either party.
Just another 100m, we can make it. A was powering along, fresh from a school camp climbing Mt Barney last week. Got to the 1st waypoint where the north west track turned off - was that a track? Only 50m - we'll check it out. Up ahead we soon saw the huge landmark tree that must be FJ. What a specimen! Tried to follow the very specific instructions but spotted the cache before taking the 1.2m step. The big plastic bag gave it away.
Quick sign and swap - blue car for spider, as the mosquitoes here were ferocious.
Then back up the track to the summit - much harder going up of course, the spindly trees lining the track were useful to help pull us along. The loose rocks on the track made it tricky to find sure footing. We clambered up to the summit, sure the others must be desperate as to where we'd been all this time (~45mins) ... they'd eaten the whole packet of Shapes and hadn't even noticed we'd been gone for that long.

TFTC d.d.dudes Favourite point for the great location on a great mountain. Thanks for making us go just that bit further for extra adventure.

Had a nice morning walk with CrushinChloe to find this cache. I followed a hunch about what tree it was as I have walked this path a few times as a muggle. There were no markings on the tree to indicate FJ. Also, the 1.2m step is more like .2m.
This is one of those times I took the hard way! I blame the 2 GPS devices we were using, a Magellan, it's about to be sold or dumped, and the Sony Xperia Z2. Naturally it wasn't until the boys and I were in the middle of the bush, halfway up a cliff that we realised neither GPS's actually had us in the right position, not by a long shot! We chose to come up the West side of Mount Coolum, of course we missed the right track and instead bush bashed pretty much straight up to the ridge to the south of the actual GZ! We had almost given up when we found a track at the top of the ridge! The views were stunning thankfully! The old FJ tree is gorgeous, and great landmark. TFTC! We replaced the log and zip lock bag, though cache could do with a new larger zip lock for the whole thing!
TFTC Found with Wombat Boy and breehale. Took us ages to get to GZ after we went to far South! Was much faster coming back on the track!! hahaha
Got it with son. first-day school holidays and day off work. This one's close to home so about time got it. needs a new log book.

After a quick walk up the mountain, we suddenly found ourselves travelling down the other side in pursuit of this cache. Once we'd walked for half an hour or so, we quickly located the cache. Great spot, although we forgot to bring a pen -.- TFTC! Found with LoneLobster!
Took us a while, ended up going down a narrow trail. Found it fun good little spot found with CanyoneroCrew, TFTC! Shame we forgot a pen.
My daugter had a gym competition at Maroochydore this afternoon, so I thought I would take my two sons for a climb up Mt Coolum before hand. It has been about 8 years since I climbed Mt Coolum. Back then, I was in serious training for a trek to Kokoda. This time, there was no end goal other than some exercise in the great outdoors for myself and my boys.
It was a cracker of a day - warm for this time of the year. So we plodded up. I huffed and puffed and my two boys ran ahead, played, talked incessantly, both completely oblivious of the UP. The track has changed a lot in the last 8 years. The stairs are a pleasure now. We only stopped once or twice to collect earthcache clues, check out the view or take a drink. Soon enough we were at the top.
Now to go over the back to the other two caches, or head back down? The boys had lots of energy that needed burning, so it was the former. After visiting the last warrior, it was time to check out poor old FJ. I think he may have even been struck by lightning. Cache was quickly found and the logbook signed. Now, back up and over again!

Relogging this under individual account, previously a member of Gaz'n'Kab account.
Spent the weekend with Gaz'n'Kab, Captain Terror, and Net88 up North, climbing mountains and camping.
Found this one after conquering Coolum, down the other side of the hill.
Thanks d.d.dudes!

Thanks d.d.dudes!
The group of us including Pprime (P`), Fangsoki, catscatscats22 and Captain Terror continued back down this side of the hill, and soon arrived at this one, and quickly worked out what was going on, and had the cache in hand in no time at all A great older cache, but it has certainly changed since being published all those years ago. Happy to add this one to the found list [^]

I think I've climbed Mount Coolum three times before. The first time I was lucky enough to find 'Alpha Coolum', somehow without a GPSr. Although I'm grateful I did when now looking at grabbing this one. When a plan with a group of mates was made to climb Coolum for only the current Earthcache I suggested a return trip down the back side. Note a route I'd taken before, but via 2 geocaches there.
So having waded our way through the tourists and locals alike making their way up the hill (I think only Tibrogargan and Mount Warning have a busier track), Net88 decided to return back to the eat while Pprime {P`), catscatscats22, Fangsoki and Gaz'n'Kab and I headed east.
What a great little track. Relatively hidden away, somewhat rough but interesting. I admired the columnar surface of the rock as the path wended through the thick trees. Before peeling off towards the geocache, a couple of us found a little rocky spur to explore.. a bit of a view but not much going on.
As we neared GZ a pair was already hunting there. Yeah, they were very new geocachers. No idea on their name but we wound up signing the log together. It only took a short hunt after our group turned up and as described, it was hidden within the realms of GPSr inaccuracy and basically 'at' the posted co-ordinates. I had wondered why this one was listed as a multicache, but I see back in early 2008 it was changed somewhat. A little sad it's not fully original, but a great old hide all the same.
I always enjoy a climb over Coolum and even moreso today, exploring a new patch of the world. Now our group is off to find a Warrior. TFTC d.d.dudes

Part of a group attack on this mountain by Fangsoki, catscatscats22, Gaz'n'Kab, Net88, Captain Terror, and myself. Having conquered the summit we continued on down to here. Checked out the tree and on to the final GZ whereupon we noted another couple obviously on the hunt. Hi guys - didn't get a name, but greetings.
After a short hunt the cache container was revealed (not sure about 1.2m, 0.12m perhaps?). All clean and dry in here.
Thanks for placing this cache, d.d.dudes. Found in good condition.

TFTC! Never been down that side of the mountain Bring repellant; there was quite a few mozzies. And good walking shoes
I've been wanting to find this one for quite a while being as it is quite an old one and it is a multi in the middle of the bush on a mountain! Well, this was my second attempt since the first time I had very little time and got very confused by the instructions. At the waypoint I looked for a track to the northwest but all I could find was one going NNE so I gave up!
At the recent event I mentioned my inability to find this cache and someone mentioned something that didn't make a lot of sense in terms of how I understood what a multi is, but having been here it made perfect sense (and if you can follow that you are well on the way to finding this cache!).
Anyway, today I had a bit of time before an appointment, so I went straight to this one and found it easily. It was a beautiful walk up from my chosen parking place to the northwest, and after finding this one I continued a nice shady walk up to the summit for the Earthcache. Thanks d.d.dudes for another nice old cache!

Out and about with Egg Zachary for a couple of mountain caches we came up the main route which was surprisingly quiet for once. We then made our way down the little track leading down the back side of the mountain. Quickly made our way to the GZ with an entourage of mozzies hovering above our every move. Was a little confused on whether or not this was a multi. Beautiful old tree. TFTC
Thanks d.d.dudes for placing this great cache here. It provided a much needed walk after the Xmas/NY indulgences and an opportunity to catch up with my brother. Only a short walk, but short and sweet.
Thanks also for showing us the back side of the mountain. What a great way to walk up. We drove around the front and saw all the cars afterward. The front walk is now a super-highway!
I was a bit concerned for the tree branch at GZ. It is massively heavy and ready to fall down further at any moment. We loved FJ. TFTC!!

Found after some back and forthing here; the fact the cache appears to be at the published coordinates was horribly confusing!
Thanks!
Thanks!
I had made the walk over mount Coolum and down the back and well it would be just rude not to stop and have a look for this cache. I had already made a visit to the last warrior so it was a kind of on the way back to the car.
I started with the way point for the trailhead and soon was easing my way down step by step to avoid slipping on the loose dirt. But sure enough made it down to the right level. As I approached I soon spotted something in the designated area, and had the log book in hand pretty soon. Name added and cache replaced it was now time to find my way back up and over the mountain.

An early morning start after grabbing a FTF in caloundra at 5:45am, we headed up the mountain I then diverted down to grab this cache. Well What started off as a path did perhaps not end up as one... I bush bashed to the cache and made the find. I treated this one more as a Traditional cache heading straight for the FL, I arrived at the grand old tree, admired her for a while and made the find, Signed log and replaced as found. Cache condition was all good but log was slightly damp. TFTC d.d.dudes
Firstly, I will just say OMG - I haven't done this much exercise in a while. Gorgeous track though, even if my 7 year old did insist on walking back up again!
We almost gave up cause we weren't too sure, but then it all became pretty clear quickly when we had a rethink.
Thanks for bringing me here

One of the new trainers at my gym recently mentioned she liked to go mountain climbing, but as she was new to Australia, really didn't know where to start. We had a grand chat about the Glasshouse Mountains, most of which I have climbed in the last three years, and as she was pretty keen we hatched a plan to tackle Mt Beerburrum, Mount Coolum and Wild Horse Mountain all in one day Today we set off from northern Brisbane at 7am, climbed all 3, found the 2 caches on Coolum, and got home again at 2pm. [^]
After climbing Beerburrum we headed north to tackle Coolum from the eastern carpark, and began our ascent at 9.52am. It only took us about 25 minutes to reach the summit trig point, and after admiring the views, I suggested we head down the western side and attempt to get both the geocaches here. The track down is not as wide as the eastern side and doesn't have the views, but the she-oaks made for a shady walk and it was so quiet down here... We followed a trail all the way to GZ and were delighted to find the old tree Quite a grand specimen still [^] I had no trouble following the instructions and making the find, but the lack of a pen was nearly my undoing. Fortunately the old one in the cache still had some life in it and I could leave my mark!
We continued down to the base, then walked a little way around to take another trail back up for the other cache and down again, then walked back around the base all the way to the carpark. And to make the day really crazy we headed south to Wild Horse and went up that one too

Went up the main track from the car park and did the Mount coolum earth cache then I proceeded down the power line track to this great cache. Quite an easy find. Walked around south coolum road back to my starting point....TFTC
We came up one way and down the other. What a champion of nature. Thanks for getting us to visit here. From the summit its a great view and one of the worlds greatest stair masters. Last day on the road tomorrow so trying to overload on caches.
While the rest of the muggle family waited for planes to land at the airport (and got treated to an acrobatics show), we went caching. Down the other side of the mountain, and made a quick find to introduce the muggle cousins to our fabulous game. What a beautiful tree at GZ, its certainly different to most of the vegetation around here. Thanks for showing us this side of the mountain, and for the cache.
This was a nice and easy find after just visiting the 'The Last Warrior' - http://coord.info/GC19489 a little further over on the mountain.
Once at GZ I took a moment to look around and inspect FJ and what a marvellous specimen. I then proceeded to locate the cache. Once found I noticed that the cache had seen a little water recently. I did a quick tidy up and double bagged the log just to be sure.
I took the signature item of 'Seedacache' (a little magnifying glass) and left a Kawaii Pill Pen.
Thanks for the cache 'd.d.dude'.

Very adventurous cache! Had lots of fun climbing up Mt Coolum, going down was a different story, there were mozzies everywhere! I quickly signed the log book and got out of there. TFTC
After 3 trips up the mountain, I thought it was time to check out FJ track in search of cache. Mozzies, mozzies & more mozzies. Almost unbearable. The thought of the cache kept me going! Nice walk though. TFTC
Out this arvo with Mountainman82 for a gentle strole. Such a gorgeous afternoon. Yes mozzies were out in force, I was happy to depleat the Mt of a couple and feed some at the same time. . FJ definitely needs a mention. Such a big landmark. TFTC and for the hike.
Needed to complete my Coolum to make my smiley face map look good! Awesome tree! Tftc! Out with Bushbashr!
Geo-fiancé (who normally loathes long hikes) wanted to take me for a cache today.. He knew what he was in for as we have been up mt Coolum a few times together but this time it was HIS suggestion. He and I had NO idea that not only did we have to climb up mt Coolum but half way back down then back up again and then down again. We are exhausted! LOVED the note in the cache-
Did she say yes?!
Did she say yes?!
After climbing the mountain then making our way down again there was no way I was not going to do this one, after all I was already there. We made our way down the steep descent while swatting the mozzies away. Quickly found the cache, signed the log and took off as quickly as we could.
I am intrigued to know to the answer to the note..... anyone?????

#277 Headed up the mountain from the tourist side. It was an enjoyable climb today due to the overcast sky keeping the heat at bay. After a quick stop at the summit for the views we were off to find this cache. Arrived at GZ and found the cache quickly. Signed the log and got out of there due to the mozzies. Dropped of TB. ~ TFTC d.d.dudes
#218~ Having been to a nearby cache my sweaty little caching party made a speedy descent to this one. Not such a speedy ascent though. Why I did not continue down instead of going back up and over the mountain is beyond me. Exhausting work. TFTC d.d.dudes
Great little walk, went just before the sun went down. Can see why FJ's days are numbered. TFTC
Woo who ! We found it. Awesome track to get to it and a great reward for it too. Cache had a TB.

In Coolum Beach for a friends eldest daughters 21st this weekend. Getting out from under everyone's feet finds me at another geocache.
Nice walk on the mount ably escorted by my young mate Rowan (a future convert I think). We arrived on station from a local warrior site and found that the FJ Track way point had us going in circles to nowhere. Regathered my thoughts, reread the description and soon had the prize in hand.
Great spot, great views.

I was keen to hit the back of Mount Coolum as I have not walked this track for a lot of years. I am fairly certain that the back track used to be more of a common way to get to the top of Mount Coolum. On this visit I never saw the FJ inscribed into the tree, but could easily identify that the tree has been there a long time.
Not a bad cache, but was this supposed to be a multi?
Cheers for the cache, d.d.dudes

We have wanted to climb up Mt Coolum for quite some time now and with 3 caches up here, why not go for an afternoon stroll
Well getting up to the summit wasn't too bad, but going back down to retrieve this one wasn't quite the stroll I was hoping for
After passing a big group of teens on an excursion, we found old FJ and the cache was soon in hand.
Thanks d.d.dudes for the hunt

Found with us3scouts and Parko's while completing other caches on the mountain. TFTC d.d.dudes
Loved the hike! Beautiful track most of the way down from the top of Mount Coolum. Last leg quite steep but not for long. Took green clip and left lady bug peg. TFTC. KATSE
This was one of the most unpleasant caching experiences I have had, my pal and I walked to the top of Mt Coolum thinking it would be somewhere at the top... it was half way down the other side of the mountain. The track was very steep and in some places non existent. The mosquitoes were death, and once we found the cache neither of us could have been more eager to get off the mountain. The hints you gave were very helpful, with out them we would have never found the cache and would have been searching for hours. Still, it was a good hide, TFTC
Found after approaching from the peak side, cut our own path as we did not find one till 60 m from GZ. Douh! Great walk, can say we walked right across top of mountain then halfway around. Good morning out. Cach needs some TLC
Went for a walk up Mt Coolum early this morning with Heidal and down the other side for the two caches here. Was here to witness Heidals 100th cache. Well done guys. This was a quick find and then back up to the last warrior. TFTC d.d.dudes!!
Great exercise and beautiful views from the top. Take some nibbles and water. Book a bit wet.
Good to walk with hidal on Mt Coolum.

Hiked the climb to the top then down the back of Mt Coolum with Lyn_Drew (geo mum and dad). Epic tree... EPIC tree. Great adventure. TFTC!
Yay 100th cache with membsec and Ainstar. Hiked from the East and climbed to the summit and over. Now to find Roman lol. TFTC!
Well done Scottymyth for your 100!! We have clocked up a very enjoyable 100 over the last 4 months full of adventure. A lovely walk with membsec on a fantastic weekend on sunny coast!! TFTC
Great walk although the knees are suffering. We did this with Ainstar and scottymyth. It was Scottymyths 100th and a great achievement.

We actually were after another cache nearby when we took the wrong path.
I put in the cordinates of this cache and realised we were closer to this one, so we continued on to this cache. [^] At least we would get one while we were on this mountain. The tree was in good nick considering the fires it had been through.
The sun was getting down when nearing the cache so we knew there was no time to venture back to get the other cache, so we will come back at a later date. There was quite a bit of moisture around the bags but the log was good. TNLNSL TFTC Thanks d.d.dudes

Great cache, loved this one. Up here for a holiday and have been sussing out the mt, and got a break in the weather today. Awesome views from the summit, I feel like Bear Grylls a bit as I'm reading his autobiography at the mo. Farewell Uncle Vic, enjoy your journey.
Found it after finding Warrior No.10, On the way came across some really nice views. TFTC
Log is a little wet, and needs a new plastic bag, Was lots of water in container.
We continued on up the western ridge from the Warrior to the track waypoint for this one, with some great views along the way . Initially, i'd walked past the start of the track thinking that is was just a water run-off . I quickly returned to it, and we made our way carefully down the steep, narrow track
After a short hike down, we'd spotted the giant 'FJ' from a distance, and we both said … 'that's gotta be it' . We all parked our butts in the shade of this giant, while we re-read the cache notes . Mmmm … can't be too far away, we thought, and before long, i'd spotted a telltale sign [^]
The cache is in good condition, with just a little moisture inside … which we dried out . We added our name to the log, before re-hiding the treasure as we found it , and making our way back up and back to the car [^].
Thanks for bringing us up here d.d.dudes … a great trek, some great views & an awesome tree TNLN TFTC

Amazing hike! Thanks very much for bringing me up and down here. Log's a little bit damp, but otherwise the cache is in good condition. Cheers again d.d.dudes!

Curse me.. and my sytematic way of doing caches in the area. I don't like "pick and choosing" caches - I prefer to do the lot in a sweep. This one came on the radar. O foreboding hill.. I have looked upon you for many years - but today I have to climb you. Hmmm.. the sign at the start said "experienced and fit bushwalkers only". Well.. im expereinced I made my way up the mountain slowly.. being overtaken by other walkers. It was not, however, as bad as I thought it might be. I made it to the top. What a splendid view. Even on a not so clear day like today - I could see Maroochydore and Noosa Heads.
I found the path and started picking my way down the other side.. 300m. Not wanting to test the theory, "does a rolling Fangsoki gather any moss", I was careful where I put my feet. I was so thankful I bought my walking stick. I eventually reached the bottom and then had a few aborted attempts to find said FJ tree. It was soon located.. as was the cache thankfully. The tree certainly is pretty impressive. The cache was in remarkably good condition. After signing the log, I made my way over to Warrior 10. What a hike.. but I am very glad I did it. TFTC d.d.dudes

Right where it was meant to be. A bit wet though and eaten alive by mossies so bring the repellent!

Once at the tree the GPS took a little while to settle so had to use some other navigation skills to fix the west door. After that it was all easy with the cache in hand. Great cache and a terrific hike after conquering the local warrior. Great old scribbley gum tree.

Followed all the instructions and found without any problems. Nice scramble. Left 5 Star Climbing Geocoin. Thanks for the cache.
Found after warrior 10, bush-bashed down to the dirt track, and then back to the carpark along the road. Tftc
Quite a trek, legs were feeling it after. Had been raining and the track down was a bit slippery with the water flowing down it as well. Found the cache in good condition.

Excellent hide and it was good to say hi to JF. Cache was a little damp inside, dried it out as best we could. Black bag containing the cache was rather rancid and I'm sure these don't help to keep a cache dry anyway-all it does is give you smelly hands. Rant over, we loved the walk up and over picking up the other caches here on the way. TFTC
1130hrs. Well up one side with the crowds and then down the other. A slide down to the cache and what's that a track. Oh well we found the cache and climbed out again. TFTCSL
Walked up and over from the east (something about a lazy cache to collect at the start point later). At the junction point I headed off for the warrior firdt up before decending down to this little FJ.
Extracted the cache adn then set off to climb Coolum for another time.
Thanks DD dudes this was a great morning doing a little hill climb

GAFF 1 After bushbashing my way to the Warriors cache it was on to this one.GPS was not helping because of the tree cover but eventually found the giant in the forest after climbing over the hill.Followed the path for a while but then lost it but had plotted the car so knew where it was phew.NI-NO thanks d.d.dudes
