After taking a walk from Samford Road into the hills, I noted this archived cache wasn't too far away, so we decided to take a visit to this one. I wasnt holding my breath with this one, given the various backburns and fires that would have come through here since it was archived and last found on 3/08/2017, but it was only a short walk from the gate.As soon as we arrived, there was a telltale sign of a cache in situ, and we then uncovered remnants of the cache. The cache container and logbook/bag has deteriorated in the stump, but there was no doubt that it was the cache (at some point in time). I decided to leave the cache in situ and added my stamp to the flaky bag. No sign of the horses sign though! Thanks eventful for the cache placement.----------This morning, it was an early start as it was forecast to be a hot day. I decided to take baby Cottontail on an adventure to the north-west, as we departed just after 07:00 hr, and only had rough plans/ideas before needing to be at the [Secret Santa 2023](https://coord.info/GCAGEQJ) event at 10:00 hr. Subsequently, our first stop was the hills/bushland of Ferny Hills to avenge a DNF, followed by a drive through Samford Village. Another walk was had in Clear Mountain, and with baby Cottontail becoming drowsy, we then headed to Mitchelton for the event and playground play. Upon our arrival at home, it was an immediate dip in the pool to cool down from our morning adventures.

With a few hours spare, I headed out to tidy up a few unfound caches between Samford and Ferny Grove. Grabbed this archived cache while on the track to another. Container has perished and logbook is a little worse for wear bit still takes ink beautifully so I left my stamp.

Thanks eventful for bringing us here, this find makes Smile 3940. Discover our TB

Good to be back in the bush again, even if it's only a 500m return walk. Found quickly after noticing something out of the ordinary. TFTC

10-Sep-16
Out with GT54 who said there was an archived cache nearby.

A quick check on my Samsung (I keep a GPX file with all available yet archived caches in QLD), and yep - still available, so time for a quick look.

Got it! But forget the hint and most of the previous logs: the cache is just now a log book in plastic bag in hollow stump with a rock on top.

Log book signed and replaced. Found at 4.40pm on 10th September 2016. TFTC.

As allways we walked the wrong way in ,and the right way out .log signed and returned with a new bag TFTC

Out for the day with Gullivers Travels54 to find some caches. A nice find here, thank you for the cache.

23-Apr-16
With Rosie the geo-retriever along for the walk, this afternoon I hiked a long circuit in the western part of the reserve. I had loaded my GPS with all the available archived caches and hadn't realised this one was archived until I came to log it.

This hint is a bit misleading - don't bother with the summit cairn, check out the nearby stump with the rock in it.

All good here. Thanks eventful

After taking a short walk around a few other caches nearby, I had this one on a list of possibly available, so I decided to come for the short walk to take a look.

As I pulled into the parking coords and started towards the gate I noted the look of recent burn off (could be a few months though) so was not entirely sure about if this would be still available or not. But with only a bout 150m to walk it was definitely worth the look.

As I approached the area I noted a rather significant lack of much to cover at all, and certainly little that fit the clue, however with a little looking around I soon spotted something that was perfect. Of course there was the cache, the container slightly cracked but still in good condition. There was a small amount of water in the bottom, but the log was still completely dry. The pen had leaked so have removed the pen, so anyone else that seeks this cache may like to BYO Ink. Otherwise all in good order, added my name and replaced the container as found.

Am thing that Nyssa,& nett88 are mountain goats ....phew we made it to the top ..an came back via the track lol ahhhhhhhh much easier ..TFTC

06-Feb-14
Out with Lady membsec, Outback Di and Net88 for another fun ladies day caching adventure. I took the Nyssaflutterby direct special way to get to this cache. Mmmm, I'm not sure that Lady M and Outback Di were too happy with that decision and made sure we took the well worn path back out. Once at GZ it only took a small hunt until the cache was in our hands. We left our autographs and then replaced the cache as we had found it.

Thanks for the cache eventful Big Grin

As there has been either no response from the cache owner, no cache to find or log to sign, or it has been a number of months since the last owner note I am archiving this cache to keep from continually showing up in search lists and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

If you wish to repair/replace/make available the cache sometime in the near future (next 28 days), just contact a reviewer (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, the reviewer will be happy to unarchive it.

Should you replace the cache after 28 days has passed please create a new cache listing so it can be reviewed as a new cache.

18-Nov-12
A wee wander for a few caches and this was one of them. TFTC

04-Oct-12
I had to visit Samford to deliver something, so I decided to get this one as my cache-for-today. I found plenty of parking and my GPS led me along an easy walk straight to GZ. As previous finders have said, the hiding spot is now an ants nest, and they don't like being disturbed Sad Also the log is damp, so I signed the piece of paper. TFTC, eventful.

28-Sep-12
Log still very wet. Added our own slip of paper as log unuseable.

Ants still very active too!!

TFTC.

19-Aug-12

24-Jun-12
Decided to tackle a few of the caches in this neck of the woods to we took our steel stead up the hill, tethered it to a nearby post and wandered in to the GZ. Soon had the cache in hand. The logbook is very damp and was almost unsignable, but we managed to make our mark. TNLNSL TFTC.

18-Jun-12
Took the long way round for a nice walk, easy find at the end Smile Book very damp, everything else dry, dried it off best i could.

16-Jun-12
The closest thing to a horse I had with me today was the dog, but he insisted in coming along for a quick walk. Followed a cyclist up the path who had almost muggled me at another cache earlier, but kept behind enough for him not to notice. I noted a path coming off the main one, which I was apprehensive to take given a sign photographed by the Captain. The promise of another smiley was enough of an enticement to break the rules this time Wink Only took a few minutes to find the cache, but as others have said, it needs some maintenance.

11-Jun-12
Parked nearby so only a short walk up to this one in the rain under the umbrella. I don't have a horse to leave at home. TNLNSL TFTC Thanks eventful Cool

20-Apr-12
We were on Shanks' Pony so kept with him up the hill and into the cache where we easily found our target.

08-Apr-12
Well it's almost like the ants are a booby trap on the cache now, so it's slightly exciting if you have some sort of suitable implement to allow you to retrieve the cache without touching - we found such a device in the locality, not sure if it was a plant or a happy coincidence?? Smile The logbook was wet, we managed to sign but took it out of the mini bag and put it into a bigger ziplock bag that I had on me, I'm not sure if that will help it to dry out at all but I thought it was worth a try. TNLNSL, thanks for taking us for a nice walk!

20-Mar-12
Logbook is very wet on this one. Also maybe needs relocating thanks to the ants that have moved in.

18-Mar-12
In the area grabbing a few top caches and this one was next. I parked at the trail head and walked in. Not seeing any sign about a horse I continued on, then switched to following the GPSr arrow. Led me to the bush and so many places to hide a micro here. I started looking but after not long I spotted something giveaway. Sure enough there was a cache, but I thought it was closer to a small size. Either way, a family of ants have built all around it and inside the logbook is wet beyond useful. On my way out I noted the sign, and says nothing about horses. Oh well, another smiley for the count TFTC eventful Smile

27-Feb-12

I left it in the car instead.

Nice little canter up the track to sign a log.

It's very wet, but I found a dry enough spot to inscribe. Thanks eventful.

04-Feb-12
Made our way in and came to a fork in the road. Of course as usual, I take the wrong one. Eventually made our way to cache and took the easy way out. TFTH

Log was very wet due to hole in bag. Dried as best I could and placed in a new bag, but log may need replacing.

You're right. A horse certainly wouldn't have been much use to me the way I came up the hill. A nice easy find when I got here though. TNLNSL. TFTC =)

Find #30. Found 30/7/11 @1400.

The sign relating to the name of the cache has recently been replaced by one describing the area as "revegetation". Even so, we found the cache after a bit of hunting! It's quite rusty, and the log is damp (but still writable).

SL.

TFTC eventful.

Easy find. Found the lid too. The cache container could do with an overhaul (corroded) and the log is wet but usable with care. The sign mentioned has gone – recently replaced by one warning of revegetation.

Interesting place for the cache. Container has lost its lid. Will be ok though if its replaced correctly.

And not a horse in sight. In fact no one around on a chilly winter's morning. Lovely brisk breeze blowing through the trees. Great to get out of the house and into some bush and even better when there are caches to be found! Log bok ever so slightly damp but otherwise cache in good nick. TFTC!

Found this one and after the last couple...enjoyed the wide tracked stroll through the bush.
The cache container was a little worse for wear--Contemplated going back to a previous cache found today to remedy the situation....but the log was nice and dry.

Thanks

Found with Guccigal. Lid has rusted off the cache. Did not read logs before coming caching today so did not bring anything apart from a pen. Log book was intact. TFTC

Quick run up the hill puff puff from Monkey Lament and conducted the search. It had been very well concealed and took a few readings of notes etc to find. TFTC

25-Sep-10
This was cache # 4 of 20 for the day, on a day caching around the hills. I moved the object covering GZ and found nothing but dirt and hundreds of ants pored out not to happy, i disregarded it and look everywhere else, then returned and poked again, oh there it is, more ants tried to eat me as i tried to get the container out, the lid has totally rusted off. Despite the ants i did enjoy my visit to this area. My thanks to eventful for the cache.

08-Sep-10
When i pulled out the Cache i hit directly in an ant built and hundreds of them ran out!
Be carefull everyone!

501 - We left our horse (power) on the side of the road and made the short walk to this cache. We didn't find it straight away today, but we did find it in reasonable condition at 3:17pm. TFTC.

01-Jul-10
Yes - micro in the bush. Didn't expect to see one of those containers out here... Well, actually it is the second spot today I had seen those containers out bush.... Geonephew spotted it really quick though - he is getting better. Part of a nice day out in school holidays with the Geoson and Geonephew.

Found while looking for others in the a same area.
Last time we were out this way was a few years ago.
Came the easy way today, not up "Hunny Hill". TFTC SL

My long-term friend and caching chum Radnoski and I have a saying... "Micros in the bush make Baby Jesus cry". This was no exception. We had attempted a cache yesterday that was a micro in the bush. Thankfully this one came to hand - unlike the other one. By my GPSr, the co-ords seemed a little off by about 9m or so. But this could be put down to the tree cover in the area. Cache is in okay condition. The bag is a little torn and the log was ever so slightly damp - but quite useable. TFTC Eventful Smile

26-Mar-10
Found the track a bit of a struggle without the horse, but made it in the end.
TFTC, eventful. I was quite pleased here with cache #400 in the books.
Mrs George muttered quiet congratulations as we headed back to the car.

07-Feb-10
Lovely stroll on a lovely evening. Ant city erupted when I plucked out the cache. Thanks for the fun guys.

03-Jan-10
Really enjoyed the short walk from the car to the GZ. Once there, AmbulareSimia members and I all seemed to have different ideas as to which direction it was in. Something not quite right initially drew my attention to the correct spot but a naturally added degree of difficulty concealed the prize. Had my quizzical mumblings not been translated or linked to current and previous hints by others in our group, we might still be looking instead of logging the find @ 2-41pm TNLN TFTC

03-Jan-10
Found at 1448 with Loupyloo. With the tree cover, our respective GPS devices were not behaving properly so we fanned out and starting looking. It wasn't too long before Loupyloo was wondering aloud about the placement of something she'd picked up - 'No, nothing there' she said. We checked out the hint and decided to have another look and there it was after all! Big Grin

Some natural camo by the native residents helps make this one a little more difficult.

Why, oh why, did I insist on riding down that hill??! I ended up pushing the bike up most of the hill to get back to this one. There were a few muggles on the main track nearby, but they didn't stop me finding this one.

Find 15 of 20 on a caching expedition with geojez. The log book on this one was pretty much unusable (I have it here if you want me to post it back) so I put a bit of silica gel in there and then put a new log book in the cache - TNLN, TFTC.

09-May-09
We were actually heading for Burnt Out but we took the wrong track from Lomandra to start with and decided to try for Leave your horse at home instead! We then then headed back to Lomandra via another 2 caches and had a lovely picnic in the near deserted picnic area and then headed off for one more cache before heading to Iron Bark Gully for a couple more. Tired out the geokids nicely. TFTC

At 12:15. Quite easy if you choose the right parking spot. The ants were no serious problem today. TFTC Eventful.
