#13068 9:30First of two days staying at the beautiful Hill End campground and do some interesting 4WD tracks. Of course there was the odd geocache to be found. As we started our journey down the Bridle Track to Bathurst, this cache required a bit of uphill driving. In hint sight, this proved to be the most difficult driving of the day as the rest of the Bridle Track turned out to be pretty easy.Cache was found in good condition. TFTC Javada

The first cache on our expedition down The Bridle Track. Easy find.

Did a couple of jigsaws and re-solved a couple of history mysteries to fill my time before taking a trip to Hill End via Wellington. I decided to use geocaching to show me things in the area I had previously missed. It worked.

Highlights were a number of lookouts, the Cornish Roasting Pits, and an incredibly creepy looking graveyard.

Thanks to everyone who hid these caches. I was going to make a video of the trip for Valentines day but I left my laptop at Dubbo and I'm not returning there till after a baby is evicted from its cooshy home.

The container here was, well, nonexistent, so I pulled out an old one I happened to have in my car and placed it there. Took away all the rubbished bits.

Visiting Bathurst, Sofala and Hill End areas this time. Looking at finding a variety of caches.
Thanks for the caches and AL's.
Great views. We found the cache as reported as a soggy mess. Fortunately we had a plastic container, mint tin, plastic bag and new log with which we replaced the original cache. The cache is good to go. Old cache is stashed close by out of sight.

Found at 11:01:00 AM

I had no idea what was out here when I drove from Sofala ostensibly just to find a trig. Now I find myself driving the trusty Pajero down a 4WD track with scary signs. I walked the last 300 metres to this rather than bumping up the rocky old track.

Thanks Javada

Another great day on our one-year tripp around Australia. We love to travel in this country and we love to look for geocaches. This geocache has again shown us a place that we might not have visited without geocache.
Thank you for the geocache !
Greetings from Switzerland.

Great start to a great day.

Hill End and Mudgee weekend April 2018. I set out late on Thursday after a small car battery issue. I only stopped once before a night at Bummeroo ford. Friday took me to Orange via many spread out caches between Oberon and Bathurst. I spent the night at Macquarie woods. Saturday started foggy and then warmed up. I was heading to Hill end, and did make it, but I had to give up on the Bridle track due to a rockfall. Late in the evening I did find a spot along the Turon river and the very bumpy northern section of the Bridle trail. Sunday had me finishing the TRLT trail from Mudgee to Gulgong and a few missed ones in the middle of nowhere. The last day was a simple drive home from Sofala. A great weekend !

I spent the night at one of the riverside camp areas before returning to this cache as I drove oh so slowly back to Hill End. It was great to get up the hill and see the surrounds. Well worth the visit.

Thanks.

.We are staying at Watton Airstrip for a few days. As part of a package, our hosts took us on a tour around the area, which involved some concentration in driving, coping with blinding dust, and even more blinding sun. A good day was had by all. We also introduced our host to geo-caching (caching name Watton Airstrip).
As part of the trip, we went down the Bridle Track from Hill End. (I see from a sign later in the trip that caravans are allowed on it. We just hope that they don't meet anyone.

Today was day 75 of our trip out of Sydney and we are getting very close to home now.

We started out from Hill End and drove along the Bridle Track and up the hill as close as we could to this cache. It was then just 100 metres further on and a matter of finding the right rocks. This did not take very long and soon the log was signed and the cache was replaced where we had found it. Thank you for bringing us to this area and thank you for placing this cache for us and others to find.

An enjoyable drive, although Mrs H wasn't too impressed with the drop! We took the lazy option and drove to GZ. Sadly, we found the cache was just wrapped in a plastic bag, and the ammo box was gone! There were several caching names in the logbook since JordsAU visited in April but I didn't know at the time they hadn't logged their visit online so didn't take note of who they were. Maybe they took a shine to the ammo box as if it had been muggled surely the contents wouldn't have been neatly wrapped and hidden again? Unfortunately we didn't have a spare container with us, so hopefully a maintenance visit or future visitor might be able to help out as it would be a shame for this one to now disintegrate from the elements. TFTC
Cheers,

Found 12:20 PM with Zo Zo during our weekend stay in the greater Bathurst region. After checking out of our Bed and Breakfast accommodation in O'Connell and grabbing breakfast in Bathurst, we filled up the fuel tank and started the drive towards Hill End. We made a pit stop to the quaint little village of Sofala along the way and continued until we reached the Hill End Visitors' Centre. We had a chat with the ranger and wandered through the museum first and then made our way through the centre of town to reach the Bridle Track. We drove down the 4WD only track until we reached the published co-ordinates and as I was pulling up to park the car, I ran over a rock which made a loud bang on the under carriage of my vehicle. We made the rest of the journey by foot up the hill and once at Ground Zero, made a quick find. We performed the signing duties and returned the cache to its hiding spot. I was surprised to see that Team Webguy and Toriaz had signed the log before us earlier in the day! Signed Log, Took Nothing Left Nothing. We jumped back in the car and headed back up the Bridle Track but as I was driving along there was a loud knocking sound which did not sound healthy. I inspected underneath the car thinking that the rock had done some damage and could see the exhaust had a big ding in it and was pressing up against the tail shaft, which was creating the knocking sound when the tail shaft starting spinning as the car moved. Great. Our only choice was to head back into Bathurst and find a garage that was still open on a Sunday afternoon. We made it back okay; I turned the music up to muffle out the knocking sound but the vibrations were getting worse as we went on. Fortunately we found a garage that was still open and the mechanic heated up the exhaust pipe and knocked it back into place, but the damage is still there meaning both parts will need to be replaced when I get home (yay, not). The drive home to Sydney was okay with no more knocking sound but the vibrations were worse after the repair work (occurring only between 80 to 90 km/h and then 100-110 km/h). Anyway, I had not been back to Hill End or Sofala since coming here on a cub camp when I was about 9 years of age. I have fond memories of that trip and, other than hurting my car, really enjoyed the return visit. Thanks For The Cache Crowmage & Javada.

Looks like this cache got a lot of love this weekend! Bikerbuddy & I got here about mid afternoon on Saturday. My car & I were both a bit hesitant about the road, but survived it just fine. Unlike poor JordsAU, we left the car at the parking area near the bottom & walked up to the cache. It was an easy cache, and some of those rocks looked just a bit big to drive over. Looks like we made a wise choice.

Thanks Smile

We were on our way north to Mudgee and Gulgong, but Toriaz wanted to detour to Hill End to find some caches. This was my pick as one of the best caches of our trip. We edged the Sportage down the Bridal track to the point where we could pull off at the bottom of the hill leading to this cache. There were a few guys there who were riding quad bikes. One was cooking sausages by the side of the road. They didn't say much when we said hello, so we started up the hill.

The views from the top are great. We wandered down and made an easy find of the ammo tin. A great place to visit and a favourite point from me. Thanks

Well we may not have had enough time to drive to the bottom of the bridle Track, but we still snuck in here before dark to nab this one. We walked from the obvious spot, despite the fact that we could have easily driven to the top. I think Ding enjoyed the chance to stretch his paws.

I don't know if I have ever found a better hidden amo can, well done!

Cheers

Hoojar and I couldn't believe when we signed the log that it was so long since the last find.
We had decided that although we wouldn't be making it to the bottom of the bridle track before dark we could at least grab this one before heading back to Sofala for dinner. Ding chased rabbits and scared some bikers as we strolled along the track leading to a great camping spot.
Cheers.

We were in the area this weekend and replaced all our Geocache containers with ammo boxes. We've restocked all of our Geocaches with lots of fun goodies and provided larger log books.

16-Jul-11
Headed down the Bridle Track from Hill End and left the vehicle at the saddle before wandering up the track. Could have driven but it was much more pleasant to take a stroll. Nice views along the way - and not bad at the top although there were a lot more trees around GZ. Soon located the cache - or rather the wreckage of the cache. However we had been forewarned by previous logs so had brought along a replacement container & log book. The original container is history and all the contents completely saturated. We removed it. The log book is probably unsalvageable. The problem was of course that the concealing rocks had been sitting on the container - breaking it. Anyway new container & log book is in situ - no swaps though. Great spot.

Have booked the weekend of 23-25/7 to update and repair all of our Geocaches in the Hill End area. New containers, new log books and new contents.

i like a cache I can drive right up to. drained the container a bit but needs a new notebook - so if your planning a trip up here, maybe you can be better prepared then i was and drop off a new log book.

Found after searching for a short time in the cold wind not too far from 0 metres on the gps. It is VERY WET as the lid has cracked and water is in everything. Emptied out all the water and cleaned it as best we could and replaced upside down to try to keep the next downpour out. Also found a TB which has not been logged into this cache and will move it on soon. TFTC.

A great camping spot indeed. I'll put this into the memory banks for a return visit.
Drove right up to GZ (4wd - 2" lift) thanks to some low tyre pressure and an eagle eye for sharp rocks No turning circle up there though Wink
A passenger in the car had a fit as we approached the apex remembering the drop-offs on the nearby track. So, yes, we drove up the last few metres very carefully. Big GrinBig Grin
A quick find,

Had been doing the ones in town, and when closing in on this one ended up on the wrong hill. After a quick re-evaluation realised my writing wasnt as readable as i might hope, and what i thought was Bridge lookout, was indeed the Bridle lookout, so back we go... Made good use of the 4WD and got nice and close to this one. Beautiful views of the surrounding area in the end.

Drove as far as we could and when I stopped there was a massive roo about 10m from us. We sat and watched him for a while, as he did us. What a cool country this is that you can get out amongst it and see the native wildlife at it finest. A brilliant speciman.

Wandered off to GZ and it was soon geowife doing a little jig and calling us soft. Great spot. Thank you.

It sure was nice to revisit this beautiful area again today Smile
On a freezing cold, but clear winter's day I was glad to be in the geomobile on the downhill run out of Hillend.
Last time I travelled the Bridle Track was on the pushbike in summer, three or four years ago [:o]

The fog had finally cleared by the time we returned from the Chinese diggings so we headed up the trail. The warning sign at the base of the trail is a bit strange even taking into account someone’s attempt at humour. If you arrived at this location via vehicle do your really need another sign to warn you that the road is only suitable for 4WD? Unless your vehicle was lowered in by a helicopter or dropped via parachute you must have driven here so I think you should manage this section ok.

OOppss I date the cache log the 16th not the 17th!Anyway this cache had been unfound for to long! So today was the day to take care of all that! I came home from work at 7.15am and was on the road by 8.15am, what great weather for a drive! I took the quickest way to Hillend and attacked the cache from that end, being as lazy as I am I parked next to the cache and had it quickly in hand! Despite it blending in with it's surrounds very well! Signed the log for a FTF and was on my way to just down the track a bit!! Thanx heaps for getting me out and about! Keep up the good work.
