Was out here today with another cacher. The information for 2 of the waypoints are missing and the track to the final is closed and looks unlikely to be opened.
I was only supposed to stay in Piha for 2 nights, but ended up staying here for 6 nights, this place is just soo tranquil and beautiful. Today I decided to drive to Karekare beach and the surroundings, and it's just as beautiful here.
About this cache:
This was a really nice multi with a beautiful ending. The first waypoints were easy to solve, but the final one must have been missing. Luckily the last log had written that the answer is march. The container was very nice and in good condition. Tftc, greetings from Norway

#2330 As I head from Auckland to Karekare Beach for the day, I finally completed this multi after 1 hour at 10:45am. As per previous logs, the final waypoint left me hanging. Lucky this guy died in the first few months of the year or I would have left disappointed and emtpy handed. It's a great beach. No sign of Hunter, Keitel, Neill or Paquin. Not even Xena! TFBMH.
We took the opportunity to take the break in the weather to head out to Karekare for a spot of geocaching and to take Albert the Geohound for a nice walk. Pretty breezy and the odd shower coming through while we walked about collecting the clues and like others we ran into trouble once we hit the last clue. Almost certainly the information required is no longer there at the last waypoint although the waterfall was in very fine for today.
Mused for a bit what to do and then decided to look at a few possible solutions and after a couple of tries settle on what we thought might be a possible solution. Missed that there is a geochecker unfortunately so we just went on the idea that if we get to GZ and it looks like there is a clue item we'll give it a go. Glad to say we were right and after a quick look found the nice geocache still loaded up with swag. Made a trade and picked up the travel bug since it's been there since January and is probably due somewhere new to hang out.
Pity about the missing clue as otherwise it is an excellent multi and well worth doing. I took a photo of a sign at GZ for the last stage - if that CO would like it to update the cache I am happy to send it.
Thanks for the cache, the cache itself is still in good condition and all is well here.

We started this multi 2 days ago but had to abandon efforts when the rain came **cascading**down by the bucket full. Just as well really because the place was teaming with tourists by that stage and it didn't seem such a good idea to be there during a busy public holiday. All was straight forward today until waypoint 5.
No sign (or internet) was there so on our second guess (March) proved correct as it looked to be on track. Dropped off T.b that likes the 'west side' because the cache was in such pristine order. Thanks for a cool Multi.

Having completed some of the Ahu Ahu and Comans tacks Gorby, Aiden29 and I stopped for some well-earned refreshements close to the start of this multi so we decided we just had to do it. We had no problems getting the information until we got to WP5 where we could find no sign (excuse the pun) of anything that could tell us about Bill. So we decided to take a guess and started putting numbers into our gps and we soon came up with a gz that was on the track so headed there to take a look. We were spot on and quickly found the cache which was in fantastic condition considering it hadn't been found in 14 months. We rescued the 2 TB's that had been languishing there
Completed parts of the Ahu Ahu and Comans tracks with merlot58 and Gorby. We decided to park up at the carpark for a well deserved cuppa and morning tea. I noticed that there was a multi right beside us, that we couldn't very well not complete, since we were here. The information for the first 4 waypoints was easily found, but when it came to WP5, we could find no sign or plaque referencing Bill. Not wanting to leave this without giving it a good shot, we took a stab in the dark as to the number for this, and eventually came up with a likely final location. Off we head up the trail, slowly after our earlier hike, and came upon our location with the hint item present. Merlot made the find surprising us all that it was in great condition, completely dry, seeing as this cache hasn't been found in 14 months.
Our last cache here in Karekare. Out with Aiden29 and merlot58. We have collected 4 FTF's here today along the Te AhuAhu trk and Coman's trk and after a well deserved coffee, we decided to do this multi. All WP's collected except the last one. We looked everywhere for a sign or plaque to no avail. So we stood around and guessed what it might be, the GPS giving us likely or unlikely positions, the first one we chose happened to be the correct one, which we didn't know off course until we found the cache! 14 months since it was found and I'm amazed it is in such great condition. Contents dry as. Thanks kiwiGary, I have been meaning to complete this multi for a long time, finally it's done with great company today
Found most of the answers to this one at home and the co-ords took us to a likely looking spot. Mr R had the honours of "jogging" (not !) up the track, whilst everyone was admiring the Falls. It took longer than it should have to locate the container and sign the log book, replaced as found. Everyone had gone on his return to the Falls so it was somewhat of a mad dash to catch everyone up.
Found as part of our "2016 Pensioners' Road Trip"
Many thanks to KiwiGary for setting this cache and greetings from the Isle of Man.
Cache number 4932
A nice puzzle cache in picturesque Karekare. Had a couple of girls and their dog hanging around ahead and then behind us as we hunted for the final position. Spotted a skink so pretended we were looking for fauna. The GPS also had us on the wrong side of the track so ran the risk of falling down the steep hillside as well.
With my latest weekend travel my company offered me day off this week and I picked today as it was just a nice sunny spring day . Collected all the required information quickly and made my way to GZ. Found the geocache in the first place I checked. Took the two TBs and left one. TFTC
Did all the hard work some time ago but when we went for the final, knew something was wrong. Onto it this visit with the tramping group for a quick find. Oh Oh, all uphill from here. Tftc.
Out this way with a walking group...managed to do about 5 caches and not get too far behind !!!
Had done the research ages ago....no prob finding cache with good clue thanks !

On our way down to Auckland my sister and i had a little detour to this nice cache. I had to drop off two TBs and so i had this cache on my To Do List. And it was really worth it. A lovely small village in a gorgeus landscape. The questions were all easily to answer and the final box was big enough to take my TBs.
Thanks for this nice cache in this wonderful area, greetings from germany, Laborratte

Out and about enjoying a hike around Karekare this afternoon. I took the Zion Hill track in, with a couple of side adventures, and came back along the beach for a nice loop. Once I had completed the loop I set to work on this multi at a most leisurely pace. No problems were had collecting the required information and processing it. At the final a bit of poking and prodding eventually overturned the goods. I took the TB. Cheers for the cache placement!
Our first find on our NZ trip straight from Auckland and into the bush.
Loved the tour of the town and we also headed to the nearby falls, lovely place.
Thank you for the cache KiwiGary

Very nice cache! Got to see places we would not have seen. It was a family outing, camping and exploring this beautiful place!
Opps.. heading up the valley to get a few others.. stepped off the track for a ...... and the sound of "running water" not hitting plant alerted me to something strange... that looks very much like a cache container... sing out to fellow cacher.. and its confirmed.. the final for a multi he has already done... nice.!.. don't seem that good at finding the real way.....
I was in Karekare for a hike today and decided to arrive early to knock off a few caches first. Soon worked out the location of the final, after visiting all waypoints and collecting the necessary information. After a short walk the cache was easily found and in good condition. A nice little multi and great to revisit Karekare Falls! TFTC - a favourite point added!
Out geocaching with oneranger easy find quite a climb beautiful waterfall.

Our first multicache find-a great one to start with in a super area. Excellent. Picked up the TB
2nd of the day with our scout troop. Sent the scouts around Karekare while the adults waited at the falls. T4Tc.
Back out at Karekare doing a LARP so took the opportunity afterwards to redo this. Re-did the whole thing since it was such a nice walk and everything was pretty much on the way anyway. Phone GPS started being silly (+/- 108m), and I realised the battery was low (guess it had spent the afternoon unsucessfully searching for signal). Switched to the Garmin and homed in on the final. Wish I'd researched the hint before leaving home, but found it easily enough. Thanks for a nice multi (so surprised that no-one has done it all summer - gets a fav from us).
Oh, btw, it's worth walking 10m up the track from the cache for a nice view.

Gathering the necessary information to calculate GZ and made short work of finding the cache. Thanks!
Out here running in the Karekare Gladefest Rogaine and collected the necessary info while doing so. Unfortunately, my phone took a dip in the waterfall pool, and I was loathe to turn it on until I could be sure it was completely dry. We'll be back.
(Had good success in the Rogaine though, with Miss Jackonz (and a cousin) winning the 1.5hr Junior section, and Mr & Master Jacksonz winning the 1.5hr Overall.)

Lovely location, had a pick nick at the falls to celebrate our anniversary. Perfect
Had a good wee explore of Karekare with mike-miss today. Almost made a major error when approaching GZ, but we rechecked the map and chose the correct approach. Tftc. We'll be back to collect the rest another day.
Enjoyed the walk around Karekare collecting the answers to the questions with stretch.kerr. A few muggles at the waterfall but they had no idea on what we were up to. Sorted the coordinates for the final and off we went. Luckily, we checked where the GPS was sending us as we did a U turn and headed back the other way towards GZ. Cache quickly found as we knew what the hint item was after finding a cache earlier on in the day with the same item in mention. TFTMC!
An amazing view of the waterfall! We came here completely the wrong way by walking down a vague track that comes down from the road, then climbing onto the taraire track!

Found after visiting the waterfall. Great views on the way to the cache. TFTC
Found with chrismuu639 and Captain and Mrs Bird's Eye. Good cache and good trail. Loved the waterfall and the views. The rest insisted on looking in the wrong place so I followed the gps and found it, signed it, replaced it and went back. They eventually found it too. TNLN. TFTC
Found with Boat Girl and Captain and Mrs Bird's Eye, really nice walk and spectacular waterfall. Boat Girl showed us all up and informed us we were looking in the wrong place after disappearing for a while and finding it by herself. We got there in the end though. TFTC
For waypoint one, where a sign needs to be found, it has actually gone!! Its not hard to guess the number, but still.
Found it today, as the other cachers (that i did not met) stated: the sign is gone, so you have to guess/google/.. the name of the Pa (Karekare is wrong but fits pretty well anyway.)
Had to google what a Astelia looks like, it was easy afterwards..
Thanks for that nice little trip.

Took Bumblebeeladybug and co out on their first Geocaching adventure. Think we might have them hooked! Lovely trail. TFTC.
Did this while the others went to the beach jumping in the sand dunes.
Thought I was quite close at the fifth step, but no, it was not as close that I thought. Nice multicache to do.

Out with Coldstream to finish off the caches we started a week ago in this area. This was the last cache for the day. We thought we might do an easy one after our dig walk picking up 7 others and walking 12 km.
At waypoint 5 there were 30 - 40 people spread all around this area. We managed to read the plague even with a woman lying down on the seat. The final is nicely hidden away from the maddening crowds. Though after signing the log we noticed a group of young ones below us jumping into a pool at the bottom of waterfall on a tributary of the main stream.
Cheers for the cache.

A very busy day for this sleepy hollow but a nice jaunt through the jungle to finish - TFTC
Really cool multi! Waypoint 5 was a beautiful spot - very popular too - were only 2x other people there when we arrived late morning, but near 50 by the time we'd left at lunchtime! So beware the muggles! Great locations, great fun!
Had a great walk around the area with Angeshirl. Lots of people hanging around the first couple of waypoints but they thinned as we made our way around. Nice little hike to the final and a fantastic day to sit down for a few minutes while we signed the log. Very well put together - really enjoyed it, thanks!
What a fantastic little route you chose, beautiful scenery and a gorgeous day, what more could you ask for after a morning of surfing and bathing in the sun. DD the geohound and Ayrshiregirl were right on the case. Took the key fob, left junk magnet. TFTC
Excellent hunt coupled with a great day at the beach! Found with Mister Anthony and DD the geohound (who definitely enjoyed caching more than the beach!). TNLN, TFTC. xx
I found this cache together with steha70 a while ago. We are traveling around NZ.

It was very busy today, especially around the waterfall. Caval an I could collect all the numbers, did a quick calculation and found the box after a short search.

Did all the waypoints, but couldn't locate final co-ords due to GPS Garmin 60 losing coverage. A pity after all the work. Also need to check out what I think an astelia is. Very interesting place.
Beautiful day and a really fun cache. Found it no troubles. TB in and out. TFTC
Found the wp's easily, loved the waterfall.

Having competed a few trads in the area today decided to complete the multi too. Pleasant walk around the area today. Waterfall looked very inviting. TFTC
It was the only box left in this part of town on the GPS so I couldn't let it go. A quick meander and a few stops and we earned a brief splash in the Waterfall before returning to the car.

In the area today and after sucessfully finding the "few steps up" cache decided this would be a walk in the park. All went well until we tried to find a non existent track that showed on our GPS but in reality doesn't exist so after resorting to a track used earlier we quickly located the cache. A really enjoyable end to our caching day at Piha . T4TC.
Thank you for a great place to visit.Had fun working out the co ordinates. The last climb was challenging.Cache in good order.
Realy enjoyed this multi..amazing waterfall, beautiful scenery & interesting tour around the area, TFTC
Did we have some fun doing this cache indeed. Very nice waterfall before heading for the final and there was a few ducks swimming around aswell. Set off up the track and cache in hand in no time. TFTC
a very nice walk around for the family and a picnic on the beach as a reward!

Went hunting with the birthday boy and the novice. Lots of muggles around on a glorious Saturday. Had to ask some to allow us to view their seat. Easy find after a pleasant ramble . Added a water game, removed another key ring.

What a gorgeous area. A treat for me, and a treat to share it with someone special. Waterfall was stunning, and it's set in a nice little bush area. GPS lock wasn't great, and non existent between the last waypoint right to near GZ, but a reasonably easy find in the end. Great camo and a nice hide. Lots of native bird life to be seen and heard, particularly Tui. Thanks so much for bringing me to this place.

Started off as nice sunny day, got the info at WP1 but muggles on top of WP2 looked like they were going to be there for a while. Went off & did "little Blue" and "Up There" and came back after lunch to pick up the remaining WP's. Neat location for the final and a great day out for the family.

One of the better caches I have done. Took a large group and everyone enjoyed doing it. First time most had seen the waterfall.

Ps I made the cache details page printer friendly and then printed it without realising that the RH margin had been slightly cut off which was a problem when the missing bit was part of the given co-ordinanates. Managed all the same.

10:46 Wow that walk is harder in summer , Tagged along with BackPAQer on this one. Needed to do a maintenance check to make sure the cache is ok, after not being visited for a few months. Cache is doing great, don't you love Ammo boxes. Thanks to all visitors so far.
#8 for the morning. Gary insisted that I do this as he wanted to see if his container was in good condition so he tagged along - he commented about someone moaning about what a hike it was to the cache...you should have heard the moaning coming out of Gary near the end! Nice army box! Made to last!

Saw these falls back in early Jan, before we took up caching. Good to have an excuse to return and visit. Nice puzzle, the kids were a bit puffed reaching the final, enjoyed the great views though, thanks for bringing us here KiwiGary.

#649. This cache has a similar format to another one in the same area that I did a couple of years back. The final location had me puzzled for a while as I'd never realised that track was there. Took TB. TFTC.
After two weeks of hibernation to keep out of the wet and cold,it was greet to be out and about again. Arrived at Karekare in brilliant sunshine.Pleasent walkabout to solve this multi with one of the best looking water falls in this area as part of the package.

Lovely day for exploring the area, a great multi in a fairly compact area. Discovered a Geocoin in the cache that wasn't logged in. Left Carrot TB.
Fairly easy finds - just remember to workout prior to trying this cache (especially if you're doing all the others in the area on the same day). Ohh our aching legs [xx(]! But definitely well worth doing this one if you enjoy beautiful naturalistic scenes.
After our caching challenge, 2 Hopefuls and we wanted to round up the day with a multi. Sadly, Rumo did a bad job in determining the order of handling the waypoints (best: do them 1-5). So we went to the waterfall, back to the carpark and to the waterfall again (Rumo even some times more, because he forgot the camera). At least, this cache was his first (and only find) of the day.

On my previous attempt I misinterpreted a clue and the eTrex couldn't pick up satellites in the wrong place! Returning today with a 60CSx, with cache was found without a problem, right where the GPS indicated. Yet another vista of Karekare to be savoured. ±0, cheers!
I needed to sprint round the waypoints to find this cache after taking rather longer than estimated to find "In the Middle of Somewhere".
Luckily I have visited the area many times so I dont feel too guilty for not stopping to enjoy the delightful surroundings.
A muggle group got startled when I ran out from the track just as they were posing in front of a waterfall.
My GPSR consistently indicated GZ as being 12 metres further east of where I eventually found the cache.

Enjoyed this little trek in the sun, with a bit of a deviation to view the waterfall from the top of the cliff on the other side of the road. You really have an appreciation of how big the waterfall is from up there!

The clue gathering went smoothly enough, but at the calculated GZ, the soon-to-be-replaced eTrex was showing anything from two to zero satellites (an exceptionally bad day). Pinpointing the cache position became an exercise in frustration, could have been any synk ohfu! Gave up, will return with a better machine!
14h30 - 2nd find for today after a FTF close by. Did some of the info- gathering on the way to the lookout cache. Real busy in the area today, and parking was really hard to come by. Great waterfall!!. Took a while to locate final - after looking under the wrong clue at first!

Nice easy wander around gathering the imformation, then a bit of a grunt to the final. Nice placement of the final, on one of the few tracks I haven't done around here. Good views too.
Must say how nice it is to have a decent box in the area.
