What an adventure! This cache took our family on a awesome expedition through these gorgeous cliffs! Thank you for this awesome cache that we definitely will not forget!

An interesting spot and piece of local history. After figuring out how to get to gz I stumbled around for a while without any luck before resetting and focusing on a different area where I made the quick find. Thanks for the cache.

30-Jun-24
What a gloomy Saturday morning it was while we waited for the rain to settle before the Geoson and myself set out to find some caches. This was our sixth find for the day and wowsers that was a bit of an adventure to find the right footing among the long grass, prickle and rocks. Once a GZ it started to rain again so the little spuds and myself were like two ants stuck in a bucket but on the bottom of the cliff face trying to find the cache. After about 5 minutes the little spuds yell out "I see it" and sure enough there it was. Thanks for the adventure and placing for us to find.

02-May-24
It was a warm day, and I took note of the COs warning regarding the locals that may reside in this area. We had already pushed our luck on the previous cache, trekking through long grass, so why not test that luck just a little further? There was vertical climbing, horizontal climbing, and some scrambling. At GZ, we searched for a while before Steve made the find. Thanks Bushfire and Neville_devil for bringing us to this great location.

Australia day weekend: What did catnap777 and dalerious get up to.........Drove from home on a glorious Friday morning, and the weather forecast could not have been better for this time of the year. Very mild conditions had my plan for continuing to get as many T5 water caches under our belt, was going full steam ahead, and as I don't like the >30 heat, especially whilst I am paddling my kayak, the conditions were going to be perfect Cool. We started the day attending a wonderful Australia day event put on by sharkiefan. We put in our kayaks and headed along the river to sign a couple of caches on the water first. Then while dalerious was trying down our kayaks on the trailer ready for our next adventure on the water elsewhere, I decided to do a recci and see what we needed to do for this little gem. What an awesome spot. I waited for dalerious to come over to gz, and a T4.5 cache was found and signed Cool. Thank you Bushfire for providing this cache in an awesome area. Favourite point given.

A great little hide

I am really earning my terrain points today, i actually got this one, i was gonna ride past it but i was daring and I actually did it. A confused kid was wondering what i was doing, i climbed over multiple fallen trees, and i made it, but still took a bit of time. Im really proud of my find on this one, its the highest terrain points i have got.Pika 15/10/23

Now this is my kind of treasure hunt!

Instant favourite from me, Bushfire. Mid-afternoon rains had just passed, so I had the place to myself to take my time.

Loved the location and had me guessing as to the correct angle of approach. Once figured, it was still a game, trying to find the hide itself — but not too hard!

Container and log still in very good condition. And I’m pleased to report that there were no cache guardians today (but plenty of rabbit warrens discovered).

03-Apr-23
I placed this guy way back on the 1st May 2007 but as we all know that time changes and it has got to the stage where I have to either adopt my caches out or archive as I have a health problem that is only going to get worse.
Finally, I must thank my good friend Nenille_devil for looking after this guy as it has got to the stage when I must pass it on and wish it good luck for the future. I know it is in good hands.

Such a fun and tricky hide. Lots of animals about too, and and a few confused muggles.

what a fantastic day for a walk
a quiet stroll by the river
no one else around to break the serenity
just us
the birds
and the soft rush of water

but of course
we’re not just here for the river
we’re here for the treasure

so
time to go off-road, off-piste, off the rails
time to diverge from the path
time to trip up under our own steam
time to explore the quarry

a quirky little spot
we scared out the wallabies and staked out our claim
they watched on with beady eyes
and saw us find our treasure

nice little spot
thanks for the incentive to pop by

So glad that I picked a mild day to grab this one with the lesser chance of coming across our slithering friends. I felt prepared after reading other’s notes and set out to cross this one off my list. The area is still overgrown, but I think that floods in the past months may have flattened the area a bit. Found the cache and log in good condition. Just as well I’m not bothered by spider webs.

Went through all the effort of clambering through only to realise we didn't have a pen, found the cache tho

24-Dec-22
Approached at night with Thecashfinder1234567. Took a bit to get there and then find. Think the difficulty should be raised as it is now overgrown. Didn't have a pen so took a photo with the cache.

Hmm now love it when a cache starts with a great close by car park.
A gentle slope pathway.
Perfect.
The sound of rushing water close by.
Perfect.
Suns out.
Perfect.
No kids in tow.
Perfect
GZ not far away.
Perfect.
At GZ and over the little fence felt a bit naughty. But wasn’t far. Then I looked at the hint

23-Apr-22
I should have read the terrain rating before heading to this cache as I had to head back along the path to find a trailhead into the ravine. I walked through chest high grass hoping not to disturb any inhabitants. Once I hit the rock wall my search began. Ten minutes later and the log was found and now my name is “down there”! Thank you Bushfire for placing and maintaining Barwon - Baums Weir for us to find today.

Find # 1064.

17-Apr-22
After having some fun at the previous hide, I moved along the track to to this one. I’d taken somewhat of a detour on my way to the shops to pick up these two hides, as they were “kind of” on the way, and I hadn’t had a find today on my visit here from Sydney.
Reading through the description and the hint, I was prepared for a bit of a trudge.
Another lovely walk, with a family out walking on the track as well. Made my way through chest high grass stepping on god knows what and fording through masses of cobwebs. Fumbling through the long grass I made my way towards the GZ, and wondered where it could possibly be. Searched for some time and started to spread out from the original area. Crouching here, climbing there, sticking my hand here and there. Some 15 minutes later I came across the hide. Hmm, not sure this is where it’s meant to be given the information in the description and the previous logs. Reach into my pocket to retrieve my writing stick…….oh no! Never going to find it here. Quickly check for my keys….phew, still there! So not able to sign so then a photo will have to suffice, sorry.
Replaced as found and fought my way back.

Day 3 of our epic trek to the St Arnaud Mega via Geelong. As you do. Razz
The constant was my travel companion for the entire trip, - Anymules. but we were joined by almost local cacher Bushfire for a lot of the escapades Cool

Today was to be our kayaking adventure along a stretch of the Barwon. [^] The weather didn't look good but the kayaks got wet but then so did I. TwistedRed FaceRed Face The waterproof GPS decided it wasn't any longer waterproof and stopped working as did the phone we had. [:(!] Luckily the GPS was an old one used for kayaking but it was back to the digs for the new one, a change of clothes and back to visiting waypoints for the numerous multi caches and epic multi stage mysteries started on previous visits and the previous two days. Cool This is how the day unfolded Razz

Wow the grass is certainly long down there. We decided to take the long way in treading very heavily and carefully. Wink Then despite a long search we had to resort to a PAF to narrow the search area. Red Face That down Anymules made the find Smile We decided it was quicker and easier to just climb out! Razz

**Thanks Bushfire for this cache. ** Big Grin

14-Nov-19
After lots of searching we resorted too yet another PAF. We aren’t very good at finding caches today. Was very hesitant sticking my hand in there, but I did and was rewarded with a cache.

Thanks for the cache Bushfire.

This was the last cache for the day after paddling the Barwon River with goingplaces2. It was quite a tricky hide and a good find. More names put on the log. TFTC.

17-Aug-19
After doing a lengthy paddle down the Barwon River with ilook4eo, we decided to finish off the caching day with this one. We found the easiest way to get to GZ and took that route. The ground was a bit slippery, so we had to tread carefully. We worked our way around and poked in a couple of places before finding the right hiding place. Log was soon signed with two more names and all was carefully replaced before we headed back. Thanks go to Bushfire for this cache placement.

Scary! Nice spot

13-Sep-18
This cache has been on my unloved watch list for some time now. I have visited on multiple occasions and each time walked away empty handed. I had a spot that I thought was where I needed to be, but it involved reaching well in beyond where I could see into a hole that looked like a very likely home to some form of creature as much as it resembled a good hiding spot. As such, I never reached in too far, particular once the warmer weather started approaching. After a discussion with CO on a number of matters, this one was raised. I was given a nudge that matched my original target so back I came today. With a little extra bravado (and a stick), I explored further into the target area than I had previously. And turned up nothing. After a few minutes I turned around to head back up to the path when I saw something. And I looked into it. And I found the cache. Shaking my head and muttering to myself, I signed the log & walked away with exactly what I cam here looking for....

14 months unloved, in the bank. Have a FP.

27-Apr-18
After three DNF's I decided to check this guy and all is as it should be, nice a dry as well.

19-Mar-18
While gathering info for the nearby earthcache I went seeking this at great risk to life and limb, well almost. Unfortunately I was unable to find the cache in spite of a lengthy search. Very frustrating after the effort.

09-Mar-18
Swung by here today hoping to pick up some more unloved days. Got to GZ, read the terrain. Looked. Surely not.... read the hint. OK, yep it is. Down I go. 15 mins later, nothing to show for it. Reading back over some early logs now makes me wonder if a couple of places I dare not poke my hand in may have been golden.

07-Mar-18
Had a quick look while pondering the nearby earthcache. I wasn't well prepared for 110% snakey conditions and we had a tight itinerary, but whatever the excuse, no cache did I spy. Thanks nevertheless Bushfire!

25-Jul-17
Found this one with Outrangerous. Some light rain made this cache even more difficult than what it was already. Nice spot though, as I doubt any muggles will be wandering by and finding it by accident. TFTC

this was my third attempt at finding this cache. enlisted the help of Legocacher79 and amid approaching dusk and rain finally found it. great location.

It was getting really dark now so the search was on. Luckily we fund the cache tucked away. Thanks Bushfire, great area. Found with Motndarg tonight.

Almost had to break into a sprint to get to this cache as it was getting dark so every second was important. Fortunately McLookers made the find quickly. Thanks Bushfire.

24-Sep-16
After a couple of DNFs here previously I was glad to finally make the find here today with SteMicMitSar. He made it look so easy reaching for it almost immediately, and perhaps it was, but I don't know why I found it so difficult.
I'm glad I've finally got a smilie on this one, and didn't have to dodge any brown snakes this time.
Thanks for the challenge which has tormented me for a while, Bushfire Smile.

*24/9/16, Found @ 12:14 pm, Find #5762.*

Before heading to the CITO event on the Barwon I had another mission to complete so I met up with ThePacman to get some supplies and while we were here we decided to go and have a look for this on.
We walked up to GZ and Joe led the way down. Once there It was a quick look around, I then reached down to check out a location and the cache was found.

**Thanks to Bushfire for placing this cache.**

10-Aug-16
I had a couple of hours spare, and was in the need for some exercise. So I decided to do this and "Barwon- Ring Road" together (just add paddle power). I didn't expect this one to be quite so far from the water, so I probably looked dumb running around in the wetsuit. Mind you, it came in handy running through the long wet grass...
Thanks heaps, Bushfire!

Continue walking along, by the Barwon river.
Oh dear Ive been here before few years ago.
Good to come back again to try my luck.
Found it quickly than I expect.
Drop two pathtags.
Great spot and hide.
Thanks Bushfire

Another find by the McPhail family

26-Apr-16
Yay! More unloved days. We noticed a couple of days ago that this one had not been found for a while, so made it a goal to do this weekend. Although mum of the sims family spent many of her younger years poking around Buckley Falls, she never got this far up the river, and none of us had ever realised the quarrying activity that had gone on here in the past. We all found the large cliffs left behind very interesting, and dad of the sims family together with Neville devil were keen to make the climb. Neville, clad in thongs went straight down the nearest cliff face, while protests from the rest of us saw dad of the sims walk around a much safer way. Mum insisted on staying on high ground although the safe path seemed achievable even for the little ones, on that grounds that she was sure it was just a big snake pit. After a little bit of poking around, and confirmation of where the co-ords came out from above, they were soon onto it, and we were off to complete the nearby earthcache. Thanks Bushfire!

Nice find

20-Apr-16
After a couple of DNF's I decided to check it out and like others have stated it is a very tight fit but it can be done.
I have been up and down the cliff but this time I walked in and was interested in what could be a fox's den. As Rampske has stated is all true and is waiting for the next finder.
The ageing Bushfire.

11-Feb-16
About a year ago I had to abandon my attempt here as I ran almost head-on into a junior Brown snake as I started to make my way to GZ.
Today I checked the terrain carefully, and with it seemingly all clear, made my way to GZ quite easily. Saw a couple of potential hiding spots and cavities, but decided it may be better to attempt such a retrieval during winter. So close, yet so far...
Thanks anyway, Bushfire - I'll get it one day Smile!

CLIMBING TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really really enjoyed the climb down to this cache, I must admit the climb was not very hard and took me about 20 seconds to get down and up but the terrain rating is very much appropriate. In my extremely short time geocaching, i have only come across a few high terrain geocaches, that do not need special equipment and they are fun because the CO has put a bit of effort into it! once at the bottom, for some reason i found the very well concealed cache almost instantly, geez, that could have taken a lot longer!!!!!
another part of the challenge was getting the container out of its hidey hole as other cachers have all said, great fun!Completed the signing duties and hid the cache as i found it.
Thanks once again bushfire, your BARWON series is second to none and is very well known in Geelong.

Very tricky find
Firstly getting to GZ was a huge tas and I will admit I landed flat on my bottom more than once in wet and greasy conditions

And than the finding the cache itself was a small task

However after 5 mins I had found cache!
However removing the cache from its hiding spot was just as difficult as the rest if the cache as it had to be on a certain angle due to a tight squeeze!

Log signed and cache returned

Cache was watertight and in great condition

Unfortuatly no TB withi this cache

easy find just dangerous climbing up and down. not for the kiddies

04-Mar-15
Headed to the river as I had not cached for a few days, and this cache has been on my to-do list for a few years.
I made my way to GZ and started searching Then I stood up and looked on the ledge in front of me, where there was a brown snake at eye level. Now that's the dilemma in these situations - retreating as quickly as possible without alarming the critter Smile.
Thanks anyway, Bushfire - I'll be back for this one.

(Please note this is a late log as I am now catching up on previously unrecorded DNFs.)

Walking the dog , I chose this one as a nice area to explore.
I got to the vicinity of Gz and thought ...hmmm..iPhones way out. So I searched two nearby possible locations in vain. Then resorted to the clue ... Oh... The coords are correct.
Bugger !
Oh well... Off I went. Once at the proper GZ the cache was quickly spotted and duly signed.
Thanks for showing me the area Bushfire.

It is a maxim that when one sees "Bushfire" as the CO, you add at least one to the difficulty points! Started off in high spirits, seeing an easy access and walked confidently in the direction of the cache ... then stopped. Consulted the hint. No way! The straight line approach was never going to happen with this much abused frame. An extreme indirect approach, looked possible, but had its own challenges. Finally GZ was reached ... or should I say GZs? The GPS was definitely having a bad day in this location, but I had expected that and had a sighting to work from ... A couple of large holes, that could have held an ammo can, or a lot of other less pleasant things. The only thing of mine which went into them was light from a torch. Too obvious for Bushfire. Saw one spot which looked made for a cache, but rejected it as impractical. Saw quite a few spots actually and checked them all. Rocks! So many rocks. I assume that the stone for the weir came from here. (Incidentally the Weir provided water to the mill via a fluming -- a race takes water away from the mill. An old mate wrote the definitive text on waterpower, and I had that drummed into me!) Anyhow, considering how long it took me to get to the damn GZ, I wasn't leaving empty handed. I persevered, searching in an increasing radius from that first spot I rejected. Very hard going due to the uneven ground and loose rocks underfoot. Paused, and read a few logs, did the sighting again and went back to where I thought GZ would be. Remember the spot I saw first and rejected ... had another look. Bugger! I spent about an hour in total doing this cache ... Left a geonickel, TN, SL, TFTC (I think!)

I'd been putting of doing this cache due to its location but as there are so few to find in this area I made an effort to find it, and I'm glad I did. Had the cache in my hands in a matter of minutes after having a little trouble retrieving it. Another beautiful spot along the river.
Thanks for the cache Bushfire

We had attempted to do this one in summer but we decided to give it a miss as we were both wearing thongs and thought we better come back more prepared, so this time we had proper boots on, and made our way down for this one, we took the long way down we were not as brave as some taking a short cut, the grass was a little wet but that did not put us off, ager a little bid of searching we spotted this one, it was a very sneaky hide, TFTC

After taking the safe way down I managed to convince the quite nervous other half it would be fine to climb back up. Funnily enough, I survived. Log signed and cache back where I found it. What a terrific spot, thanks for bringing us here

With the terrain rating of 3 stars we knew we were in for something good. The point of GZ was just to far to jump, but further down I was able to find a nice spot. Once down we soon had the cache in hand and found an easy route back up just to the right of GZ. Thanks Laurie, we really enjoyed this one.

Found! Collected this one with Frog-Lady & Darth Briji. This was the last collected on this side of the river today. Our son, James came all the way from Melbourne to visit us today, so we spent a very enjoyable day touring the area, and showing him some 'caches at the same time.
A nice, quick find today. we found it during a short intermission from The Mystery of the Fyansford Treasure Horde.

Coordinate Accuracy: Excellent. (We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.)
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.

While in the area waiting for suscoe and ozbob to paddle up the river it was time to check this cache out and all is well again as the container was in full view. I don't understand some cachers as they do not seem to understand that some one has gone to a lot of trouble to place a container out there for them to find and enjoy.

08-Aug-13
Day 8 of 31 in August 2013 challenge completed. As I was browsing through the map last night getting ready for the next day's cache, this on caught my eye. The weather was on my side in the morning and I got to Baums Weir just as the sun was coming up from behind the trees. All quiet around, only the sound of the rushing water and few birds, just magic. Then I discovered where the GPS was taking me and oh oh... I decided to come back at lunch time hoping the grass will dry off a bit, well it didn't so the office shoes were swapped for hiking boots. I made my way down to the gorge and ... there were some muggles walking along the track. Lucky I wasn't holding a shovel in my hand, I'm sure they would have screemed - the looks and whispers said it all. After they moved on, cache was quickly in my hand, signed/stamped/dated and I was on my way. Thanks Bushfire for this one, definitely on my favorite list.

Oops!! Used a Pocket Query download that had the old co-ords in it. When I couldn't find the cache I referred to the phone Geo app and noticed the change. Then was able to go straight to the cache after 'abseiling' down the rocks. Another great hide from Bushfire in a terrain challenging location. TFTC

I did enjoy the weir and the walk to GZ but at GZ I wasn't so sure that I should be there.
After surveying the area I decided on the long route past all sorts of treasures that I didn't really want.
I was lucky todayas I walked right up to the spot and quickly signed the log and got out of there. It looks like it might have been a quarry in a past time.

The original ammo can has been here for four or five years but somebody needed it more than I so a new smaller cache has been hidden in a more secure but harder to get to location so the terrain will be raised.

All set to go just a little harder and watch out for snakes in the summer months.

After a report from two reliable cachers that the cache which was an ammo can with a 2lt inner was MIA I decided to check it out and sure enough it was gone.
The rocks that were hiding the cache were spread around so I think somebody needed the items more that I. I have always placed a decent sized container if possible but it gets a bit expensive at $20 plus and then you have your swaps.
This will be replaced but not with such a good container and smaller and I am sorry about the coin that was inside.

Well based on the size of cache and the known type of container expected this would be findable, but somehow it was either too well hidden or just simply too good for me today, it was getting really hot too. I fear thou that the cache may be MIA. A nice spot for a cache so thanks for the hunt away.

After a search of about 20 minutes today in the heat, SedgwickDave and I came up empty handed. Somebody may want to check this one.

What fun! Found @ 09:50, on a brilliantly sunny morning after a miserable weekend of weather. Approached from the wrong direction initially, but after a quick course correction, we were on to it! Grabbed by the youngest cacher in our group who was pretty quick off the mark - must be all that rugby he plays. Smile A great size cache, lots of swaps, and very happy to find BBW in the company of family from NZ (the brand new, recently-named 'Tiger Sharks'! Big Grin) - also first time seeing Baums Weir. Signed log, left another Canadian coin, took nothing. Thanks for another great cache, Bushfire!
